We choose a tent. The best tourist tents: rating, manufacturers and reviews. Why there is no "low price" feature

It is impossible to do without a tent if you are going camping. In addition, such a fabric construction is almost indispensable for mountaineering, camping, trekking or at a summer festival. In fact, the tent is an integral part of the luggage of the modern traveler. But how to choose a tourist tent for a family vacation? After all, many things matter in the choice - material, weight, shape. How not to make a mistake and choose an inexpensive, but functional design? More on this in our publication.

When thinking about how to choose a tent for outdoor recreation, first of all, you need to answer a few important questions. Among these are the following:

  • Why exactly are you buying a tent?
  • In what season do you plan to use it most often?
  • What type of construction are you most interested in?
  • What are your preferences for water resistance, size and material?

And only after answering these questions, you can proceed to the next stages: studying the technical features and choosing the best option, taking into account the cost of such an acquisition.

What exactly do you need a tent for?

The answer to the question of how to choose a tent for a family vacation largely depends on what type of vacation you are most interested in. After all, if you prefer multi-day trips and difficult conditions, then it is better to purchase an extreme tent of an assault or expedition type. What are their features?

Assault tent, as a rule, small-sized. It is easy to assemble if needed. It occupies a minimum volume, is able to withstand the most difficult weather conditions. Important design features are snow skirts and a strong frame. This type of tent is designed for one or two people.

The expedition tent is intended for organizing multi-day tourist bases. There are no snow skirts here, and the awning tension and bottom design are more thoughtful. This type of tent is the most expensive, because reinforced materials and arcs are used here.

Another type of tent is trekking (it is often called tourist). This is the most popular tent. Its peculiarity is that it is not designed for difficult weather conditions. However, this does not affect the popularity of such a product. This is due to ease of assembly, low cost and average weight.

Camping houses - tents of an increased level of comfort. They are spacious inside, sometimes divided into several small rooms. Some models are designed for the full height of a person. These tents are heavy and bulky. They can only be transported by car. We have collected in which we took into account all the necessary qualities.

How to choose a tent, given the season

It is almost impossible to choose a universal tent that would be equally good both in summer and in winter. Given the seasonality factor, all tents are divided into several types:

  1. Summer. Their purpose is to use in hot conditions at high temperatures. Very often, such a tent is used on the so-called wild beach holiday. The characteristic properties of this option are the presence of a special mosquito net, light weight, excellent ventilation, windows. The fabric must be light, with breathable inserts.
  2. Three-season. This type of tent can be used in summer, autumn and spring. The optimum temperature for this is moderately warm or cool. The fabric material here is more dense, waterproof and completely windproof.
  3. Winter. Their purpose is to be used in fairly bad weather conditions. Important features of such tents are the presence of a strong frame, windproof and dense fabric, double bottom, snow skirts. This design well protects the interior from gusts of wind. She doesn't get wet. Of course, you can use such a tent in the summer, but it will be too hot and stuffy in it.

How to choose the right tent design

A few decades ago, one form of tent was available for purchase - in the form of a house with a gable roof. But there are several types of such models on the modern market.

The main types of tents, given the design features, are the following:

  1. Hemisphere (This is one of the most popular tents due to ease of assembly, increased resistance to gusts of wind, a good slope - neither rain nor snow lingers on its surface. This option is ideal for amateur tourists who go camping for the weekend);
  2. Half-shell (This is a comfortable and spacious tent inside, the disadvantage of which is low wind resistance. Given this, this design is not suitable for extreme conditions. As a rule, such a portable house is used for overnight stays by a large company of 3 to 6 or even more people);
  3. House (double slope);
  4. Classic tent.

How to choose a tourist tent: size, material consumption, water resistance

The cost of a tent is largely determined by the materials used in its manufacture. But which ones are the best?

As a rule, the frame material of the tent is aluminum, fiberglass (fiberglass) or steel. The latter are not very convenient to use due to their large weight. The aluminum frame is stronger and lighter than fibergrass, but the cost is higher. Fiberglass also has its advantages. It does not deform over time, but is less resistant to fracture than aluminum.

Choice of tent fabric

Here the main factor is the choice of seasonality. Tents that are designed for the winter period are equipped with a denser and heavier fabric. As a rule, manufacturers use the following types of fabric:

  • mixed;
  • Polyester fibers (polyester, lavsan) - such fabrics are resistant to ultraviolet radiation;
  • Polyamide fibers (kapron, nylon, anid) - such a fabric is very durable, does not cause irritation on the skin, and has good resistance to external influences.

Requirements for the outer awning of the tent

Since such a material directly interacts with the external environment, the main requirements will be: water resistance (the ability to not let in and drain water), resistance to deformation when wet, the ability to weakly pass air flows. These characteristics are best met by polyester, which is why it is such a popular material in the manufacture of tents.

Please note: water resistance indicators are indicated by manufacturers as follows: 4000, 3000, 2000, 1500 mm w.st. This is how the units of pressure of hydrostatic raindrops on the awning are designated. 1500 mm is light rain. 6000 mm - downpour. The minimum indicator here is 1000 mm, the maximum is 7000 mm. The best option would be a tent with indicators of 2000 -3000 mm w.st.

Requirements for the inner layer of the tent

Since such a layer does not interact with the external environment, the requirements for it are somewhat different compared to the outer tent. The material here is not so dense, but it must also have the properties to drain water (not rain, but condensate formed from temperature changes).

What should be the bottom of the tent?

When thinking about how to choose a camping tent, do not miss such an important element as the bottom. After all, it is important that dryness is maintained inside, and protection from insects and creeping is also provided. As a rule, the following materials are used for the bottom:

  • Polyester;
  • Nylon;
  • Structured polyester.

All these materials are impermeable and the ability not to pass moisture. Another important point is the presence of special sealed seams.

How to choose a tent for a hike: the optimal number of places and weight

If you are going on a spring-autumn hike on Saturday-Sunday, then use a double tent or a 2 + 1 format tent. It doesn't matter if you have to sleep alone. After all, in fact, the difference in weight for single and double is no more than one kilogram. Modern lightest tents weigh only one to two kilograms. But such models are quite expensive. However, if you are interested in hiking, then it is better to buy a more expensive tent than to carry a heavy structure behind your back in a backpack.

The best option, given the purpose of the tent

A tent for extreme hiking must meet the following parameters:

  • Weight - within four to six kilograms;
  • Water resistance not less than 4000mm;
  • Tent material - polyester;
  • The arches are made of aluminium.

The trekking tent must meet the following parameters:

  • Weight - from two to three kilograms;
  • Water resistance of the awning - from 1500 to 4000 mm (depending on the duration of the trips);
  • Awning material - nylon with special polyurethane impregnation;
  • Arcs - made of aluminum or polymer.

The camping tent must meet the following parameters:

  • Weight - within 12-25 kg;
  • Water resistance of the awning - from 4000 to 10000 mm;
  • Tent material - polyester;
  • Arcs from steel or aluminum.

In addition, pay attention to the total number of entrances to the tent. If it is designed for 6-10 people, then it is better if there are two or three entrances, at least.

How to choose a tent: main conclusions

Summing up, we will answer the main question: what exactly should a tent be? First of all, affordable, comfortable to use, reliable, waterproof, made of quality materials, protected from rain, snow and insects.

Canadian Camper IMLALA 2 is the most secure tent in the inexpensive category, claiming the highest places in the ranking of the best. Accommodates no more than 2 people, honoring them with an internal space measuring 210 × 115 × 110 cm. It is made from dense nylon (awning) and polyester (bottom) fabrics, the water resistance of which is 4000 and 6000 mm of water. Art. respectively. The frame is standard fiberglass, moderately hardy even for heavy winds.

As mentioned above, the main feature of the Canadian Camper IMPALA 2 lies entirely in the accompanying protection measures. The standard mosquito net is completed with a single-layer fireproof impregnation, as well as protection against ultraviolet radiation. All these "chips", coupled with the materials used, give a serious increase to the total weight of the product, but in general they do not really "lift up" the value to the ceiling - only 3.7 kg. Letting go of unimportant details, let's say: this tent deserves to be bought more than others.

Advantages

  • The optimum ratio of price and quality;
  • the presence of refractory impregnation;
  • reliable UV protection;
  • quite comfortable to carry weight (3.7 kg);
  • high stability of the frame.

Flaws

  • not detected.

Double tent for hiking, the main feature of which was the balance in all key operational parameters. Structurally, it consists of two awnings (outer: 220x250x107 cm; inner: 210x110x102 cm), while the inner one significantly limits the available space in width (hiding a good 140 cm). Why this is done is not entirely clear, but otherwise there are no controversial points.

The frame of the Talberg Explorer 2 is assembled from 8.5 mm fiberglass poles, which are well resistant to loads (mainly wind) and have sufficient operational strength. The awning and the bottom are made of polyester fabrics of two varieties, the water resistance of which is 5000 and 7000 mm of water. Art. respectively. Structurally, the presence of two vestibules and a windproof visor is provided. According to numerous consumers, this model is the most acceptable option for a tent in the near-middle price segment, available on the large market of our country.

Advantages

  • acceptable price;
  • reliable protection against moisture, both along the walls and along the bottom;
  • the presence of two vestibules and a visor.

Flaws

  • limited internal space due to the narrow inner tent.

An extremely cheap three-seater tent from TREK PLANET, created in the exact image and likeness of typical models in this segment. Lightweight design (2.2 kg), thanks to which it is easily transported on hiking trips. The LITE DOME 4 awning is made of polyester, standard for this case, which has an extremely low (relative to competitors) resistance to wetting - 1000 mm of water. Art. The bottom of the tent is lined with dense polyethylene, which is the main stronghold of its water resistance: here the indicator lies in the range from 6000 to 8000 mm of water. Art.

According to consumers, the main problem of LITE DOME 4 is unsoldered seams, which are the weakest point of an already not very top-end design. In this regard, it is advisable to use a tent only on warm summer days, without any drink for heavy rain showers and stormy winds.

Advantages

  • the lowest price in the segment;
  • light weight (only 2.2 kg);
  • high-quality bottom, which has a significant margin of safety and resistance to moisture.

Flaws

  • lack of soldering (or gluing) of seams;
  • low coefficient of water resistance of the awning.

Kingcamp Family 2+1 is a family tent production model, providing all the subtleties of delicate protection from environmental factors. Measuring 205 x 180 x 120 cm, it is designed to accommodate two adults and one child, and it is worth noting that it succeeds significantly in this field.

For reasons of rationality that the family will not go outdoors on cloudy days, manufacturers used materials with low water resistance in the manufacture. If in competitive tents at least the bottom differed in significant water resistance, then there are no such elements at all (polyester walls and bottom have a water resistance of 1000 and 2000 mm of water column, respectively). But there is a mosquito net and an inner dome made of breathable polyester, which does an excellent job of regulating the microclimate. Among the disadvantages of Kingcamp Family 2 + 1, you can enter a large mass equal to 4.2 kg. But let's be honest: the tent is only rarely transported by a person, most often delivered to the place in a car. In general, it is not a reference, but is the best choice for a comfortable family vacation.

Advantages

  • good regulation of the microclimate inside the tent;
  • the provided reserve of a place for placement of the child;
  • fast and hassle-free installation.

Flaws

  • very low moisture protection for all structural elements.

The Norfin Ruffle 2 is a very sturdy trekking tent, primarily used for summer camping and short trips. According to the materials used, the manufacturer did not give anything new: the model is based on fiberglass arcs, the awning is made of polyester (with a water resistance of 2000 mm water column), and the bottom is made of reinforced polyethylene (with a water resistance index of 8000 mm water column). An important factor in the quality of the tent is the presence of not glued, but welded seams, as well as an anti-storm brace provided from the standpoint of common sense.

The internal dimensions of the Norfin Ruffle 2 are designed for two people and are 200 × 120 × 100 cm. In reality, this is not enough, and only one user can comfortably accommodate there. But there are no complaints about the transportation component of the model at all: it folds up to a size of 50 × 12 cm, and it doesn’t weigh that much - only 1.8 kg. Together with the cost of the indicated performance features, it turns out to be enough to become one of the best tents in its segment.

Advantages

  • high-quality sealing of seams using soldering;
  • good bottom material protection parameters;
  • convenient transport dimensions;
  • low weight and easy installation.

Flaws

  • low water resistance of the awning;
  • a small error in the calculation of space for two people.

Trekking one-layer entry-level tent, designed for use in the warm period of the tourist season. It has dimensions of 210 × 150 × 12 cm and a weight of 1.8 kg, and allows you to comfortably accommodate two people inside. As production materials, fairly budgetary 75D 190T PU polyester, reinforced polyethylene, as well as 8 mm fiberglass racks for assembling the frame were used here.

An unexpected plus of Totem Summer was that the reinforced bottom turned out to be very waterproof, capable of withstanding up to 10,000 mm of water. Art. Thus, consumers do not have to worry about water leaking under the tent installation site, however, torrential slanting rains will still cause minor inconvenience (the water resistance of the awning is limited to 1500 mm of water column). A nice addition to the kit is a very high-quality repair kit, as almost all users of this model say. A worthy candidate for getting into the ranking of the best.

Advantages

  • low weight of the structure (only 1.8 kg);
  • very good indicator of water resistance of the polyethylene bottom;
  • original repair kit included.

Flaws

  • low level of water resistance of a polyester awning.

The best tourist (trekking) tents

The results of the segment are summed up by the Alexika Rondo 4 Plus tent, which guarantees a comfortable pastime for users on a tourist outing. This model is made of two types of polyester, having water resistance indicators of 4000 (awning) and 6000 (bottom) mm of water. Art. respectively. The standard selection of materials for cladding is “diluted” with the use of aluminum arcs that make up the frame. Paired with an anti-storm guy, it provides a stable position for the tent at the installation site, minimizing the risk of injury to tourists from heavy winds.

Definitely a positive aspect of the design of Alexika Rondo 4 Plus is the presence of a whole range of protective measures: from wind and snow, the penetration of mosquitoes, ultraviolet radiation and accidental fire. Inside the tent there are pockets, as well as one shelf. When packed, the dimensions of the model are 52x20 cm, and the weight is 5.1 kg. With its transportation, you can easily cope with hiking. And when delivered by car, any local difficulties will disappear altogether.

Advantages

  • allows you to comfortably accommodate four users inside;
  • a large number of protective properties;
  • strong aluminum frame combined with anti-storm guy;
  • optimal combination of price and quality.

Flaws

  • not detected.

Not very conspicuous, but a cool camping tent from Maverick, the overall quality of which leaves 90% of the competitors out of the rating. It may seem strange, but the elimination of common "weak" points of the product allowed the company to successfully enter the domestic market. We are talking about sealing the seams, which, in this case, were subjected to welding, and not the usual sizing. The outer fiberglass frame of Maverick COMFORT also looks decent: the arches perfectly hold the polyester awning, giving it a strict hemispherical shape.

In case of a significant increase in wind, the tent is equipped with one anti-storm guy. This demolition prevention measure is sufficient to keep it in place. At the "front" entrance there are small ears necessary for stretching the front side of the awning. They form a small semblance of a pocket that protects users well from wind and slanting rain. Even without additions to the design, Maverick COMFORT manages to give consumers a little more than what the manufacturers prescribe. Quality worthy of a high line in the rank of the best.

Advantages

  • acceptable price;
  • more expensive operation for welding the seams of the joint;
  • outer frame and strong fiberglass arches;
  • very successful form;
  • high degree of comfort and workmanship.

Flaws

  • not detected.

Tent of the original form, which received the common name "semi-barrel". It determines its popularity precisely by the fact of its unusual appearance, mainly due to the successful geometry of the vestibule. The hemispherical "nook" is a preamble to the main interior decoration, the dimensions of which are 210x200x130 cm. As many as 3 people can fit in such a little room, for which, in fact, RINO is calculated.

The main advantage of this tent: a high degree of protection for the entire tourist season, right up to winter. This is a mosquito net at the entrances, and ultraviolet traps, and a snowproof (aka windproof) skirt. At the same time, it cannot be said that Canadian Camper RINO 3 shows something outstanding in terms of water resistance: the polyester used in this case has indicators of 4000 and 6000 mm of water. Art. (walls and floor). The frame is fiberglass, but moderately stable in case of heavy wind and massive precipitation. The main plus of the model is hidden in the cost parameter: in general, a tent of this configuration should cost much more.

Advantages

  • an original form based on a small cut-off of the vestibule from the living room;
  • very low price;
  • high quality tent manufacturing;
  • the presence of wind and snow protection, mesh, trap of UV rays.

Flaws

  • not found.

The bright "speck" of the rating in the face of Husky Bright 4 has become a stronghold of the strength and quality of the work of Czech craftsmen. The finished tent received an attractive appearance, suitable for hiking in the summer and (especially) winter seasons. In general, the lining of the model is made of polyester, moderately waterproof, especially along the bottom. This coefficient is 5000 and 8000 mm of water. Art. for the awning and the bottom, respectively. The inner tent is made of nylon, which conducts air well in both directions and provides proper thermoregulation.

The strength of the Husky Bright 4 is based on an aluminum frame located under the fabric of the tent. There is a mosquito net that duplicates two entrances, UV protection and ventilation windows necessary in this case. The seams are glued, and better than the vast majority of competing companies. Among the other advantages, one can single out a low total weight (4 kg), as well as a low cost, which accompanied a large influx of domestic consumers to the product.

Advantages

  • bright and catchy tent, made in red colors;
  • light weight (only 4 kg);
  • attractive cost combined with nominally high quality;
  • optimal thermoregulatory indicators;
  • high level of comfort.

Flaws

  • not found.

The product developed by the domestic company NOVA TOUR turned out to be extremely simple, but in relation to the price, it significantly outperformed most foreign competitors. Not having great water resistance, the polyester "Pamir" flashed with high structural strength in unstable weather conditions: the aluminum frame passed the test with a bang. From the point of view of the organization of interior decoration, everything looks rather ascetic: the model does not have any shelves, windows and other small amenities.

However, the internal scarcity is compensated by external additions. A large number of anti-storm guys clearly demonstrate the true purpose of NOVA TOUR "Pamir". It is light (weight is 3.7 kg), stable and comfortably accommodates 3 people. Everything you need for a good hike.

Advantages

  • the presence of several anti-storm guys;
  • very low price;
  • a reliable frame that provides a high degree of stability of the tent at the installation site;
  • lightness (3.7 kg);
  • very noticeable during the winter period.

Flaws

  • austerity in terms of equipment.

The Tramp LAIR 4 FG is another example of a four-man tent, but with better price and performance options. Its cost fully justifies the rating of the characteristics that was laid down during the design and development. Both the bottom and the awning of the model are made of polyester with not the most outstanding water resistance: 4000 and 3000 mm of water. Art. respectively. In case of heavy rains (which are not uncommon in tourist everyday life), small smudges and traces of wetting of the fabric can be observed inside. But, in general, the measure of protection from the rainy season justifies itself. There is also passive protection in case of abnormally hot days: it is represented by an ultraviolet trap. For other cases (except for winter), a mosquito net is provided that duplicates the entrance doors on both sides of the tent.

It's strange, but when choosing a material that is virtually identical to competitors, the Tramp LAIR 4 FG turned out to be 0.5-0.7 kg heavier. This is not critical, but in terms of the rating, against the background of other models, it looks like a drawback. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the design and quality - the tent is definitely worth buying.

Advantages

  • low cost;
  • a combination of protective equipment (mosquito net + UV ray trap);
  • unrestricted movement around the tent (2 exits are available).

Flaws

  • heavy relative to typical competitors (5.2 kg of weight);
  • a mediocre combination of water resistance values.

A very important feature of this tent is the external location of the frame arches, which, on the one hand, visually increases the internal volume of the room, and on the other hand, has a positive effect on the strength of the installation. The latter, by the way, is the most relevant: Talberg Bonzer 4 is supposed to be used in places with strong winds and other weather phenomena. For additional fixation in place, it is equipped with an anti-storm guy, necessary in the situations indicated above.

In general, 4 people can be accommodated inside the tent, without limiting themselves in space thanks to two doors. The interior layout of Talberg Bonzer 4 provided for the presence of one shelf, which is a real art to accommodate in such a limited space. Of the measures of protection against environmental factors, there is only an anti-mosquito net here - the awning of the model does not have any fire-fighting impregnations or ultraviolet traps. In this regard, the cost of the model looks a bit overpriced, which, perhaps, is a factor in the absence of a large influx of buyers.

Advantages

  • high-quality outer frame, sharpened for stability during adverse weather conditions;
  • the presence of anti-storm guy;
  • comfortable amount of interior space;
  • the presence of shelves and pockets in the tent.

Flaws

  • overpriced;
  • lack of passive protection measures against environmental factors.

A real contender for getting into the rating is not the most popular among domestic lovers of long hikes, but it does its job very well. RedFox Fox Challenger 4 Plus accommodates 4 people, leaving the necessary operating space for greater interior comfort. Provides reliable protection against getting wet in case of heavy rain, since both the awning and the bottom have high water resistance (7000 and 9000 mm of water column). There is no snow skirt, which hints at the established seasonality, but there is an anti-storm guy and an anti-mosquito net that are relevant in all weather conditions (the latter - except for winter).

The equipment of the RedFox Fox Challenger 4 Plus with aluminum alloy arches was a very right step on the part of the manufacturers - otherwise the provided guy line would be nothing more than a vain translation of an internal resource. This approach to execution led to high strength indicators of the installed tent, and also significantly increased the degree of user safety.

Advantages

  • good indicators of water resistance of the awning and the bottom;
  • large dimensions of the inner room;
  • anti-storm guy in the equipment of the tent;
  • high-quality frame that can withstand significant loads.

Flaws

  • high price.

The best camping tents

Alexika Victoria 10 - a different level of comfort when setting off on a group trip. This colossal (in every sense) tent is reminiscent of a field hut put up during any large-scale local action. Not the best comparison, but it fully describes the dimensions of the model, which can accommodate up to 10 people.

The main difference between such large tents and, say, double tents, is the need to provide a greater degree of "freedom" - if you want, the same notorious comfort. In this regard, a polyester awning (water resistant to 4000 mm water column) was equipped with two windows, a central canopy and wide side entrances so as not to limit people in space. As protection measures, a mosquito net, a single-layer refractory impregnation and an ultraviolet trap are present here without fail. The total weight of this design reaches 24 kg, and therefore the question of the method of transportation over long distances is not even raised.

Advantages

  • huge capacity of the tent (up to 10 people);
  • a reserve of space for a comfortable stay inside the tent;
  • visual expansion of space due to side doors;
  • large canopy over the main entrance;
  • observance of all measures of possible protection: fireproof impregnation, mosquito net, protection against UV rays.

Flaws

  • not detected.

The camping eight-seat shawl in the form of a half-barrel is a very strange model, the dimensions of which are in no way combined with the total weight. An alternative to all previous products with parameters of 750x260x185 cm has a mass of 12.5 kg, which suggests the initial thought of the mediocrity of facing materials. Oddly enough, but the theory is fundamentally at odds with reality: the combination of nylon and polyester comes out quite durable, although it cannot please with high water resistance (3000 and 5000 mm of water on the walls and bottom, respectively). However, in this case it is not the most important.

The main parameter of the Husky Boston 8 is comfort, which is in abundance here. The fact is that the inner section is divided into two equivalent rooms, each of which ideally fits four people. Together with four exits, which are duplicated by mosquito nets, this configuration does not restrict the movement of people in any way.

Advantages

  • very light model;
  • rational division of the total area into two separate rooms;
  • excellent thermoregulation, creating comfortable conditions for staying inside the tent;
  • doors on all sides of the awning.

Flaws

  • high price, not fully consistent with the content.

By the will of user preferences, the next line of the rating goes to the Canadian Camper GRAND CANYON 4 tent. Designed for four people, it has a very massive appearance, fully confirming this with an impressive weight: as much as 11.2 kg. Polyester with water resistance of 4000 and 6000 mm of water was used here as an awning and bottom. Art. respectively. The frame, according to the standard, is made of fiberglass, strong enough to withstand a large mass of walls.

Of the pleasant little things Canadian Camper GRAND CANYON 4 should be noted the presence of refractory impregnation, mosquito nets and UV protection. There is no snow skirt, but these are more likely flaws of strict seasonality than a constructive minus. A slightly strange decision on the part of the manufacturers was the manufacture of three doors at once, especially in view of the presence of one single room inside. However, this nuance does not interfere with the life of tourists in any way - a comfortable pastime in nature with GRAND CANYON 4 is guaranteed.

Advantages

  • strong fiberglass frame;
  • visual expansion of the internal space with the help of a three-door design;
  • high degree of comfort;
  • an abundance of protective equipment (from fire, ultraviolet radiation, mosquitoes and other insects);
  • The optimum ratio of price and quality.

Flaws

  • a lot of weight for a four-seater tent.

Tramp BREST 9 is a non-standard tent with a high degree of protection, which became its "calling card" when it got into the rating. Despite decent, but in general very average water resistance (4000 and 8000 mm water column on the awning and bottom, respectively), it provides reliable protection against fire (due to refractory impregnation) and ultraviolet radiation. Also in the arsenal of the model there is a snow skirt and a mosquito net, which indicates the intended use throughout the year.

As for the interior of Tramp BREST 9, it is worth noting the presence of a shelf and internal pockets, as well as the division of a large area (580x400x200 cm) into three separate rooms. A canopy located above the only exit looks very appropriate here. The total weight of this design is 14.4 kg, which is a mere trifle for a nine-seater tent.

Advantages

  • sharpening for protective properties (refractory impregnation, protection from ultraviolet rays, snow and wind protection skirt, mosquito net);
  • the presence of pockets and shelves inside the tent;
  • canopy over the main entrance;
  • optimal weight of the structure;
  • the ability to comfortably move around the internal area.

Flaws

  • not detected.

A very strong representative of the camping tent segment, which took a place in the ranking due to its very high reliability indicators. It has a series of point design improvements, the main of which is the combined use of dissimilar materials as a frame. The base is a combination of fiberglass arches (diameter 12.7 mm) and aluminum profiles with a cross section of 19 mm. Racks under the visor, in turn, are made of 19 mm steel, and remote arches of the sleeping compartment are made of 11 mm fiberglass rod.

An important factor in the reliability of the Maverick Tourer 400 is the method of sealing the seams. In this case, we are talking about welding - many competitors try not to spend money on such an operation. Each wall of the tent is made of polyester of varying degrees of density and is duplicated (in the places of constructive holes) with a mosquito net. To protect against snow and wind, it has a special 20-cm skirt. Ultimately, all this splendor had only one significant drawback, apart from the high face value: 20 kg of weight is too much for hiking.

Advantages

  • a combination of materials for building a tent frame (fiberglass + aluminum arcs);
  • metal racks for a visor (aka canopy) above the main entrance;
  • seam processing by welding;
  • the presence of a wide wind and snow protection skirt.

Flaws

  • large weight of the tent (20 kg).

Talberg's four-person camping tent is an example of the balance of technical features laid down at the earliest stages of design and development. Despite the rather mediocre indicators of water resistance (polyester walls and polyethylene floor have indicators of 4000 and 5000 mm of water column, respectively), the tent wins in the components of additional equipment. Understanding the changing nature of weather conditions, as well as the scope of the geography of sales, the manufacturers equipped the model with an anti-storm guy in case of increased winds, as well as a snow skirt.

In their reviews, users often note the originality of the barrel-shaped Talberg Base 4. Its internal area is partitioned off by a dense membrane that divides the tent exactly in half. There are two exits provided for greater ease of movement. In general, it makes a very good impression, complementing it with a very reasonable price.

Advantages

  • acceptable price;
  • the presence of anti-storm guy wires, a snow skirt and a mosquito net;
  • high quality seams;
  • canopy over the entrance, protecting from precipitation and direct sunlight;
  • original barrel shape.

Flaws

  • average water resistance.

Indiana's Sierra 6 6-man camping shawl is a permanent member of the best ratings, featuring ergonomics and sharpening for comfort. The awning, made of polyester, has a water resistance of 3000 mm of water. Art., providing, albeit not the most intense, but satisfactory protection against moisture. Much more water resistant (10000 mm water column) has the bottom of the tent, made of reinforced polyethylene.

Structurally, the internal volume of Indiana Serra 6 is divided into two sections, each of which has its own door. There is no mosquito net, but there is a windproof skirt and a pocket that forms a kind of vestibule. The nominal weight of the structure is 11.3 kg, requiring transportation by car. In terms of cost, this model is very loyal to consumers, even despite some rise in price over the past few years.

Advantages

  • low cost;
  • optimal indicators of reliability and durability;
  • the highest water resistance of the polyethylene floor (10,000 mm water column);
  • rational division of the common internal space into two sections with a personal door to the outside;
  • the presence of additional means of protection from wind and snow.

Flaws

  • mediocre water resistance of the walls (3000 mm water column).

The strong six-seat tent Ruswell 6 from Btrace continues the list of the best, the main design feature of which is the use of Durapol duralumin tubes with a section of 9.5 / 11 mm as frame elements. Thanks to such a point, but certainly an important change, the model has significantly gained in rigidity and strength, causing the absence of anti-storm guys. The two-layer awning with dimensions of 585×220×200 is made of 75D/190T Dry Tech PU polyester, the water resistance of which looks very decent against the background of most competitors (5000 mm water column). The floor, without claiming to be innovative, is lined with standard terpauling with a water resistance value of 10,000 mm of water. Art.

As significant advantages of the Btrace Ruswell 6, consumers highlight the presence of UV protection, as well as a wide windproof vestibule measuring 215 cm. In general, there are no weaknesses here at all: except that the price could be slightly lower than the current one.

Advantages

  • excellent indicator of water resistance of the floor made of reinforced polyethylene (10000 mm water column);
  • high-quality duralumin frame Durapol with high resistance to dynamic loads;
  • thoughtful design, including a vestibule measuring 215 cm.

Flaws

  • slightly overpriced.

Non-standard camping tent for six people, which has an external fiberglass frame and as many as three separate rooms. Its design is sharpened to provide maximum protection in bad weather, which is expressed in the presence of a canopy, anti-storm guy and the external location of the frame arcs. For lining the awning, polyester was used with a water resistance index of 3000 mm of water. Art. The floor, like in many other tents, is lined with reinforced polyethylene, which does not allow moisture to penetrate in principle (water resistance is at the level of 10,000 mm of water column).

Let's be honest: TREK PLANET Florida Tripl 6 ergonomics leave much to be desired, both during transportation and during installation. The fact is that the weight of the tent is 18 kilograms, and it will be inappropriate to take it for hiking, to put it mildly. In this case, the dimensions in the folded state in length and width are 70 and 28 cm, respectively. Such a model is quite expensive, but it guarantees a long service life and a comfortable stay of users in nature.

Advantages

  • a large number of protective elements;
  • very good indicator of water resistance of the bottom (10000 mm water column);
  • high quality workmanship;
  • long service life of the tent with proper care and operation.

Flaws

  • not the best overall dimensions for carrying and setting up a tent on site.

The best extreme tents

The main candidate for the leading position in the rating became a real bestseller in America, after which he did not fail to "look" into the domestic market. From the Alexika Matrix 3 tents presented in the category, only one, but very important condition distinguishes favorably: both the awning and the polyester bottom are treated with a refractory compound. However, for this, manufacturers had to pay with water resistance indicators: while the bottom can withstand up to 6000 mm of water. Art., hemispherical walls are limited to a very modest figure of 3000 mm of water. Art. Ultimately, in a heavy downpour, the tent may simply begin to let moisture in.

With dimensions of 210×160×105 cm, Alexika Matrix 3 comfortably accommodates up to three people and ensures their comfortable stay inside. This effect was achieved by moving the aluminum frame outside the inner area, thereby (albeit slightly) expanding it. From the standpoint of ease of transportation, this model is the "golden mean". Its total weight is 3.8 kg, but for extreme hiking, and even more so for camping, this is quite an adequate result.

Advantages

  • high popularity abroad;
  • refractory treatment;
  • comfortable model for the location of three people;
  • well-thought-out configuration of the frame, placed outside the inside of the tent.

Flaws

  • mediocre water resistance.

The non-standard extreme tent Husky Flame 2, designed for comfortable accommodation inside two people, also got into the rating. As production materials, aluminum (for the frame), nylon (for the awning) and polyester (for the bottom) were used in it. Despite this extensive selection, the overall performance of the tent was below that of its competitor, the Tramp MOUNTAIN 4 Alu. So, the water resistance of a nylon tent was limited to 6000 mm of water. Art., and the equipment was missing a mosquito net. But an inner tent appeared, which compensates for almost all the shortcomings of the kit (performing regulatory and protective functions).

As for the ergonomic parameters during transportation, consumers found the least complaints about this component. When packed, the dimensions of the Husky Flame 2 are only 45 x 15 cm, and the weight does not exceed 2.8 kg. In general, this model is considered one of the exemplary extreme tents available for purchase on the Russian market.

Advantages

  • thoughtful dimensions of transportation, low weight;
  • the use of aluminum as a frame;
  • high degree of comfort inside;
  • optimal price.

Flaws

  • low water resistance of an awning in comparison with the main competitor.

Semi-spherical advanced polyester tent, designed to accommodate four people. It is distinguished by large dimensions (the outer dome has dimensions of 390 × 250 × 180 cm), and, in accordance with this, a rather large weight (4.9 kg). Aluminum is used as the material of the arcs, which can withstand high stress loads. The Trump MOUNTAIN 4 Alu makes up for its mediocre transport ergonomics with good performance. In particular, users note a high degree of water resistance of the awning and the bottom (8000 and 10000 mm of water column, respectively), the presence of a mosquito net, as well as a wind and snow pocket. There was also an anti-storm guy: one, but this was enough to securely fix the tent. Domestic tourists liked this model, even despite a slight rise in price.

Advantages

  • high water resistance of all structural elements;
  • strong aluminum as frame arcs;
  • the presence of a windproof pocket and a snow skirt;
  • the design is supplemented with an anti-storm guy.

Flaws

  • poor shipping performance.

Attention! This rating is subjective, is not an advertisement and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before buying, you need to consult with a specialist.

Want to get to know someone better? Go camping with him.

Many people love camping, but few know how to choose a good tent. Size, weight, design, material - all this matters and affects the cost. How to choose a tent that meets your travel preferences, learn from this article.

Do you need a tent for camping?

In short, yes. Of course, you can spend the night in a sleeping bag under a canopy, but this:

  • uncomfortable (at night, even in summer, it is cold in nature, it may rain or a strong wind rises - weather forecasts do not always come true);
  • unsafe (insects, snakes, small rodents - not a complete list of sources of "thrill" when spending the night in the open).

Therefore, take it as an axiom: a tent is necessary on a hike.

Which tent is right for you?

The answer depends on the answer to another question: what type of outdoor recreation do you prefer?

If you like equipped campsites with car parking, then you can safely take a large tent.

A camping tent is a large tall tent, often with a vestibule and windows. Designed for autotourism, family holidays and overnight stays in one place for 3-4 days. Pros: comfortable conditions (you can stand upright), large capacity. Cons: heavy weight, poor warm-up.

If you are planning a long hike or bike trip, the weight and size of the shelter are important considerations. You will need a trekking tent.

A trekking tent is a small tent used for flat hiking, camping along hiking trails. Pros: Lightweight, easy to carry. Cons: not designed for strong winds and rain.

The dimensions and weight of the tent become even more important when hiking in the mountains or over rough terrain. Here you need an assault tent.

An assault (or high-mountain) tent is an ultra-light tent designed for serious hikes (difficult route, long transitions). Pros: very light and reliable, not afraid of strong winds, quickly installed and assembled. Cons: as a rule, small (even for one person it can be cramped).

What is the seasonality of the tent?

Beginners mistakenly believe that if you divide tents by season, then there should be spring, summer, autumn and winter. Actually distinguish:

  • Summer tents. For warm or hot weather. An important point here is ventilation: the fabric is well blown, and the edge of the tent, as a rule, is raised above the ground. But such a tent will not save you from strong winds or rain.
  • Three season tents. The name speaks for itself - they are designed for three main hiking seasons (spring, summer, autumn). They are made of a denser fabric, thanks to which they can withstand both cold demi-season winds and heavy rains.
  • Winter (or all-season) tents. Designed for use in difficult climatic conditions (snow, wind), but can also be used in summer in calm weather. Differ in stability of a design, dense waterproof material.

How to decide on the size?

A boa constrictor in a famous cartoon was measured by parrots, and tents are measured by men. Many have heard: single tent, double, triple and so on. In the first case, this means that one adult man will comfortably accommodate (with all belongings) in the tent; in the second - two; in the third - three and so on.

“Men are different,” you say. Right. Therefore, to get a clearer idea of the dimensions of the tent, before buying, study its length and width on the Internet. Then "recreate" these dimensions on your floor, take a sleeping bag and try to fit into the resulting square. Managed? You can take! No? It may be worth buying a two- or three-person tent.

How many layers to choose?

Depending on the design, tents are divided into single-layer and double-layer.

In the first case, the tent is made of a waterproof awning and is a single canvas. It is easy to fold and install. But there is a significant drawback - condensate. In humid or hot weather, it inevitably forms on the inner walls. If you do not provide ventilation, you will wake up in a wet sleeping bag. Fortunately, scientists are actively working on solving this problem - they come up with various "breathable" and at the same time windproof fabrics. Tents with membrane awnings are already on the market, but they are quite expensive.

A two-layer tent consists of a waterproof tent (outer layer) and a light, breathable tent (inner layer). Between them, as a rule, there is a 10–15 cm gap. Such a tent is somewhat heavier, but condensate does not accumulate in it, while it is reliably protected from rain.

Another advantage of two-layer tents is the presence of a vestibule.

Tambour - additional space under the outer awning of the tent. Serves for storing things and dirty shoes.

Do you need windows in your tent?

In general, no. As a rule, you are in a tent at night - there is nothing to look through them. If we consider the window as an additional ventilation hole, then with two-layer structures this is not necessary, and in single-layer structures, an ajar zipper at the entrance does an excellent job of supplying fresh air.

The only exception is camping tents. In this case, a tent with windows looks like a house and creates more comfort.

What material to give preference?

Poly Taffeta 210T 3000 PU is not a magic spell, but seeing a similar inscription in the description of the tent, an inexperienced tourist may fall into a trance. What do all these numbers and letters mean?

In fact, everything is simple. In the manufacture of tents, two types of fabrics are used:

  • polyamide (Nylon);
  • polyester (Polyester).

The first ones are quite durable and very affordable, but at the same time they are easily stretchable when wet and sensitive to ultraviolet radiation. The second ones are even more durable and at the same time do not tear when wet, but are more expensive. Thus, the first word in the tent label (Poly) means that it is made of polyester material.

Taffeta is the most common way to weave thread. In addition to it, there is also Oxford (creates additional strength and, as a rule, is used for the bottom of the tent) and Rip Stop (increases strength due to the reinforced thread, while not weighing down the weight).

The next element (210T) is the density of weaving. It is measured in tex and affects the strength of the material. The more T, the denser, stronger and heavier the fabric. In addition, the marking of the tent may contain numbers and the letter D. This indicates the thickness of the threads from which the material is made. This indicator also affects the strength and weight of the tent.

Finally, PU means that the fabric is impregnated with polyurethane, making it water resistant. There is also silicone impregnation (SI), it is better and more durable, but also more expensive.

The material is coated with polyurethane from the inside. At the same time, two layers of PU impregnation ensure water resistance of 3,000 mm of water column; three layers - 5,000 mm. The silicone coating is applied on the outside. Here, an acceptable level of water resistance is 2,000 mm.

So, which material should you choose? If you get out into nature infrequently and at the same time stick to well-trodden hiking trails, then a nylon tent with Taffeta or Rip Stop weave and a density of 190T to 210T is quite suitable for you. A good addition to this would be silicone water-repellent impregnation.

What should be the bottom of the tent?

Strong, strong and once again strong! The bottom of the tent is the hardest: you put it on sharp stones, on snow, on sand.

As a rule, the bottom is made of the same material as the outer awning. Nylon fabrics with Oxford weave are suitable for this, with a weave density of at least 210T and a thread thickness of at least 210D. But the main indicator is water resistance. It is desirable that the bottom material can withstand from 5,000 mm of water column.

Sometimes the bottom is also made of reinforced polyethylene (it is designated PE, tarpauling). This material is practically waterproof, quite affordable, but much heavier than polyester and nylon.

In addition, many tents have a so-called skirt, which prevents wind from blowing in and precipitation from getting between the inner and outer awning.

The skirt is an additional strip of fabric around the perimeter of the tent. Can be attached or removable.

It makes sense to buy a tent with a skirt if you are going on a winter hike: it will provide additional warmth. For trekking summer tents, a skirt is an unnecessary burden. Because of it, only condensation will accumulate.

What design to choose?

There are three main forms of tourist tents:

1. Hemisphere

It consists of two or more arcs crossed with each other, thereby creating a dome. This is a versatile and very popular form. Tents in the shape of a hemisphere can be used even in extreme hikes: they can withstand strong winds, water easily rolls off them.

2. Half rib

As a rule, a large and roomy tent (often with a vestibule). The arcs of such a tent are parallel to each other and do not intersect with each other. It is not particularly resistant and will not withstand any bad weather. This design is often found in camping tents.

3. House

Gable tents in the form of a house are considered classics. Rain and snow roll off them easily, but the wind resistance of the design leaves much to be desired. In addition, this type of tent is considered the most troublesome in terms of installation.

In addition, solo tourists quite often prefer single frameless tents. They are light and compact, in fact it is just an awning attached to trees with ropes or held on several racks (usually sticks).

Now you know enough about tents to make a purchase. But do not rush to run to the mall or open an online store website. There are a few tricks to help you save money.

  • Old models of well-known brands are no worse than their new models, but much cheaper.
  • Do not be afraid to buy tents from little-known companies, the main thing is that the specification is true.
  • Read reviews, consult with friends, if possible, test this or that tent in action before buying (for example, borrow from a friend).

Having bought a tent, do not rush to immediately go to the forest. To get started, assemble it at home to understand how it works, and on a hike, assemble and disassemble it quickly and easily. After that, go over the seams with a water-repellent spray to be sure to protect against moisture. And in order for the tent to serve you for a long time, upon returning from a hike, do not forget to dry it thoroughly.

How to choose a tourist tent? Among the huge variety of various shapes, sizes, capacity and water resistance, you want not to get lost and choose the one that is best suited for your trip. In order not to make a mistake and not regret a hasty choice during a hike, away from civilization, it is worth spending a few minutes and studying carefully the presented tents based on several factors. So which is the best tent? Let's try to understand the points and make the right choice.

Tourist tents today are quite widely represented on the market and differ from each other both in performance characteristics and in the price range. Below are some considerations to help you navigate and make the best decision.

Manufacturer. Tourist and camping tents from well-known manufacturers are more expensive than the average, but we should not forget that such companies value their name and therefore cannot afford to offer the buyer products of low quality. Brand reputation is a guarantee of product quality and reliability. After all, your safety depends on the quality of the equipment!

Finding the right manual is not difficult. Do you want to learn how to fish or collect chaga? :) No questions! "OK Google..." But not everything is so rosy. There is a lot of information, you will have to search, weed out unnecessary and outright nonsense. Sometimes you spend more time searching than reading. We continue to share useful life hacks. And summer is vacation, hiking, picnics, the beach and other joys.

Today's material is about choosing a tourist tent. Think it's easy? Well, yes, you can go to a sporting goods store and buy, relying on the advice of the seller. But we are not looking for easy ways, and where is the guarantee that they will not sell some garbage. So let's find out which tents are needed for a family vacation, which ones will allow you to comfortably relax in the mountains and other nuances.

How to choose the right camping tent

It doesn't matter how many days you plan to be in nature - a few days or just spend the night. You can make a hut out of branches and climb into a sleeping bag, you can spend the night by the fire. But what kind of vacation is this? Moreover, the sleeping bag has obvious disadvantages:

  • Low level of comfort. If it protects from cold nights, then definitely not from dew or rain. And to believe the weather forecasters ... you understand :)
  • Man is not protected from insects, rodents or snakes. The dubious joy of waking up among a crowd of ants.

So let's take it as an indisputable fact that you need to take a tent with you. Therefore, in preparation for, we will add this item to the list. And then we start thinking about sizes, shapes, water resistance and other useful features.

INTERESTING. According to the type of application, tents are divided into assault, expeditionary, camping, trekking, for base camps, beach and winter fishing. Already from the names we can assume the properties of materials and configuration. For example, models for fishing on ice do not have a floor, they are made of special materials that keep heat well.

What are the types of tourist tents

You should not, headlong, run to the store or order the first tent you like on the Web. First, let's answer the question "How will we rest?". The answer depends on what we end up buying. By the way, the blow to the budget also depends on the type of vacation :) Suppose you like cultural recreation - an equipped playground, parking, access to the Internet and other benefits. In this case, the choice is clear. Buying a camping tent.

A good choice for traveling on wheels. Autotourism is an entertaining thing. In a short period you can see a lot and have a good rest. And temporary housing looks accordingly. As a rule, such models are large, with a high roof, vestibule and windows. It is easy to live in such a tent for several days with the whole family. In the pros comfort and capacity. Of the minuses, we note considerable weight and high heating costs.

Hikers or cycling enthusiasts do not need such a load. The lighter the tent, the more comfortable the rest. A trekking tent would be ideal. A small shelter for installation on flat surfaces, will allow you to relax in the forest, in the field, on sites near the hiking trail. In the general mass of things it is absolutely invisible, especially for an experienced traveler. But it is not designed for gusts of wind and heavy rains.

IMPORTANT! The production of civilian tents is subject to the GOST 28917-91 regulations. Look at the description of the types of tents for recreation. Knowing the performance characteristics, it is easier to talk with sellers. Everything is scheduled according to materials, number of people, weather conditions and so on.

Hiking in the mountains is difficult in itself, and no one will load themselves with unnecessary things. If you want to experience the beauty of the mountains or go rock climbing, you will have to buy an assault tent. Similar models took the best properties from other species. The assault tent is quickly set up, even faster dismantled. Weight is less than that of trekking models, and protection at height is not afraid of wind, rain and low temperatures. But they are small, which is a minus.

Choosing the right camping tent

When buying a tent for the first time, we make a typical mistake. Manufacturers do not divide products according to the seasons. The actual classification is somewhat simpler:

  • Summer tents. From the name it is clear that the thing is designed for hot weather. The main condition is good ventilation. And that means ventilation windows and mesh on the openings. And you don't need a double structure. But therein lies a drawback. Light weight and strength will not allow to withstand the growing wind, the resistance to water flows also suffers.
  • Tents for three seasons. When do most of us go camping? That's right, summer, autumn and spring. These models are designed specifically for these seasons. Durable materials with moisture-repellent impregnation are used, which means that the rain is not terrible. The design and weight allow you not to be afraid of gusty winds.
  • Winter tents. Such models have a second name - all-weather. Manufacturers are not lying at all. Initially sharpened for cold weather, tents are quietly used in the summer. A little hot, but not critical. Very stable and absolutely no leaks. They keep warm very well.

The choice, in general, is obvious. If you go outdoors only in summer, then we buy a tent of the first type. Avid fishermen, hunters or rafters are advised to purchase an all-weather tent. You never know how things will turn out :) It's better to be ready. And for those who have devoted all their free time to tourism in any weather, there is no doubt. Definitely a winter option. A similar situation with .

How to choose a tent for a family vacation. Deciding on the size

Do you know how the manufacturer labels products by capacity? Not a parrot :) as in the famous cartoon. The name "single" says that an adult man of medium size is comfortably accommodated in the tent. In a double, respectively, two and so on. You should not think that every brand uses the same man for tests. An ordinary tester is 170-180 centimeters tall and has an athletic build.

And here comes the moment of truth. When buying products from the Chinese industry, it is better to look at the linear dimensions. Suddenly they were testing the tent according to their size. Don't think this is a joke. Such situations are not uncommon. And in general, if you buy a model for several people, do not be too lazy to study the dimensions. Do not spend a lot of time, but a positive result is guaranteed.

ADVICE. Pay attention to the presence of a "skirt" - an additional strip of material around the perimeter. The element can be sewn in or removable. If you pile on the “skirt” of spruce branches, stones or snow, you can increase stability and thermal insulation. Assault tents are not released without this element!

Now let's talk about the material. You can find two options: a single-layer model or a two-layer model. The water resistance of the tent is the same in both cases, but there are nuances. Sometimes not very pleasant.

  • Single-layer tents are made of waterproof materials. As a rule, this is a single canvas without seams or glues. They are easy to install. A significant minus appears, for example, in hot weather after rain. Condensate. In old-style tents, one salvation is ventilation of the internal space. Otherwise, a wet sleeping bag. New developments from “smart” fabrics have appeared on the market. But they are few and expensive.
  • Two-layer models are made from two awnings - waterproof and breathable. The latter is located inside. Between the materials leave a gap of about 15 centimeters. It turns out reliable protection from rain, wind and low temperatures. But the price of comfort comes at the cost of weight. Most tents with a vestibule are double-layered.

Choosing a tent for camping and more

It remains to decide on the design features and additional options. For example, windows. On the one hand, the possibility of review. But what to look for? On bushes, tree roots, thickets of grass or heaps of stones? On the other hand, ventilation And here are the questions. If the tent is single-layer, the entrance opening will suffice. If two-layer, additional ventilation is not needed. So it turns out that windows are needed only in camping models :) You know comfort.

It is more difficult with the material, but only from ignorance of the names and properties. Often the names are clear, such as "Polyester". And if you see "Poly Taffeta 210T"? There are sensations from the field of star wars or the production of terminators :) Joking aside, only two types of artificial materials are used for the production of tents - polyamides and polyesters. These are the familiar nylon and polyester. Much depends on the understanding of the marking, including the water resistance of the tent.

The first material is cheap, but holds UV worse and stretches in the rain. Polyester is practically devoid of the disadvantages of a fellow, but it costs many times more. For a tent for one or two is not so critical, but camping models vary greatly in price. Even in the marking indicates weaving. Rather, the type, density and impregnation. The mentioned "taffeta" is just a way of weaving. There are especially strong weaving and reinforcement.

DID YOU KNOW… that the cloak-tent came from the cloaks-epanches that were used in the Russian army during the time of Peter the Great? First, in the second half of the 18th century, the epanchi had a hood. Toward the end of the 19th century, the raincoat of the tent takes on the form familiar to us. The kit, for the soldiers and officers of the Red Army, included: a waterproof cloth 1.8 by 1.8 meters, a composite stand, pins and a rope for lacing.

The numbers in the name of the material indicate the density. This is how the manufacturer determines the strength of the awnings. The larger the value, the stronger the fabric. But also harder, respectively. Thread thickness can be specified. Here the same dependence with mass, as well as density. We advise you to pay special attention to impregnation. Manufacturers use two substances - polyurethane and silicone. The first goes to the inner surface, the second - to the outer.

It would seem that everything is elementary. But! What matters is not only what the fabric is impregnated with, but also how many layers of impregnation are done. Two layers of polyurethane give water resistance of 300 centimeters of water column, three layers already 500 centimeters. For the outer surface, impregnation is considered the best option, which holds 200 centimeters of water column. What happens? For a hike once a year :) a medium-density nylon tent and silicone impregnation are enough.

Types of tourist tents

It remains to be said about the features of the structures. If you do not pay attention to minor differences, tents are divided into three types according to their shape:

  • In the form of a hemisphere. The awning is stretched over a structure of two or three arcs. The elements intersect with each other and form the basis of a hemisphere. A popular type of tent, both among hikers and lovers of extreme sports. The water does not linger and the windage is very low;

  • In the form of a half barrel. This form is given to multi-seat tents with a vestibule. Good option for camping. But in undeveloped places it is better not to use - low resistance to wind;

  • In the form of a house. This form is considered classical. The most commonly used type of tent for recreation. Two slopes allow you not to think about precipitation, but the windage of the structure is higher than that of a hemisphere. But the main disadvantage in another - the complexity of the installation. Why bother when you can buy an easy-to-install and disassemble model?

Choosing a tourist tent

There is knowledge, money has been accumulated :) it won’t be a matter of going to the store. There's just no need to rush. We offer some tricky tips that will help you buy a quality tent and save money.

  • New items differ not so much in materials or technologies as in design and price. Models of the last or the year before last are no worse, but sometimes they are several times cheaper.
  • An established brand costs money. The truth is common, but we forget about it. Let the company name be unfamiliar. The main thing is that the performance characteristics are satisfied and in reality they are.
  • It’s a good idea to surf the target forums, look at reviews or chat with fellow tourists live. If there is an opportunity to borrow a tent from a friend, use it :) You will understand exactly whether it suits you or not.

IMPORTANT! The floor is made from the same material as the entire tent, only with a denser weave or reinforced. In the characteristics, the manufacturer indicates the necessary data. We advise you to pay attention - to set up a tent fall on stones, grass or uneven ground.

Well, I bought a tent. The backpack was collected. Eh, let's rest! Do not hurry. We advise you to assemble and disassemble the purchase of a house several times. Traveling will be easier. Check the seams, or better yet, go over them with a water-repellent compound. It definitely won't get worse. And finally, after returning from a hike, dry the tent thoroughly. And you will be happy for many years :)

Have a good rest and good weather! And how and where to relax ...
