Costa de Barcelona Maresme

The identity of these shores is determined, first of all, by their proximity to France. In the autonomous region of Catalonia, two languages are spoken - Catalan proper, which is said to be more similar to French and Spanish. These places are inhabited, again, not by Spaniards, but by Catalans, who are like an intermediate people between the Spaniards and the French. If you remember, this division occurred in the Middle Ages, when the French king helped the Catalans get rid of their dependence on the Moors, as a result of which Catalonia became an independent state, while the rest of Spain remained under Islamic rule for several centuries. The fact that it was from here that Columbus set off to discover America is also a source of pride for the Catalans.

Among the main contenders for houses in Catalonia you can find people from a number of European countries. Buying a villa on the coast near Barcelona is already considered the norm for residents of Germany, Great Britain, Scandinavian countries and, of course, Russia. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, Catalonia, where you plan to buy a house, has a very favorable geographical location. The direct flight from Moscow is only 4 hours. There are already 3 regular flights to Barcelona daily, and this is not counting the huge number of charters with tourists. Secondly, to the north of the capital of Catalonia, forests of Pyrenean pine begin and therefore this climate will be useful primarily for those who suffer from pulmonary diseases - bronchitis or asthma. The mountain ranges of the Pyrenees protect the Barcelona-Maresme coast from strong winds and bad weather.

This area is famous for its picturesque beaches with silver sand, pine forests and developed resort infrastructure. There is a toll highway C-32 and a train runs from Barcelona to the city of Blanes every 30 minutes.

Thanks to its proximity to Barcelona, this area is an ideal place to live or buy a holiday home. This makes property on the Costa Maresme an excellent investment property.

Archaeological finds dating back to ancient cultures testify to a rich historical past: along this coast there was a pillar road connecting the Spanish province with the capital of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by a column discovered in the town of Vilasar. The first mentions of the existence of settlements here date back to the 10th-11th centuries and speak of villages located far from the coast, from which fishing settlements were later formed, which over time turned into independent regions.

The raids of pirates from North Africa during the 16th and 17th centuries led to the construction of observation and watchtowers, some of which can still be seen today. Rapid development during the Middle Ages was marked by the construction of a large number of castles and churches, but this region received a real impetus for growth only after the success of navigation and the subsequent establishment of trade relations with the American continent, in which people from coastal cities took an active part, showing themselves as shipowners, captains and shipbuilders.

Historical dependence on Barcelona, convenient transport links and a favorable climate influenced the development of this coast as a place for country residences and a tourist area much earlier than other areas of Catalonia. This can be seen in the buildings that are often found here at the end of the 19th century and served for these purposes. Wide beaches of coarse sand alternate along the entire coastline with small bays, where excellent conditions are created for water sports.

Costa de Barcelona Maresme is an almost continuous string of resort towns in the north-east of Catalonia, located between Barcelona and the Costa Brava. This coastline is almost entirely lined with long beaches, lapped by crystal clear waters and marked by cliffs. It has a mild, temperate climate - in summer it is not as hot as in the south of Spain, and in winter the thermometer needle does not drop below 5-7 degrees Celsius. The area is a harmonious combination of year-round bustle and thriving international tourism. The rich greenery of the vegetation against the blue backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, endless beaches with coarse golden sand and small coves create an idyllic and beautiful landscape. With a long tradition of attracting visitors, the Costa de Barcelona Maresme offers many opportunities, including modern hotels and leisure facilities, water sports, golf, horse riding and adventure sports, sun and sand - all combined with tradition, architecture and cultural heritage, high quality agricultural products and fine cuisine based on local products. Places of cultural interest include the archaeological sites of Mataro, Arenys de Mar with Baroque architecture, Canet de Mar and Argentona with its modernist architecture. Other tourist centers include Malgrat de Mar, Arenys de Mar, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Alleya, Sant Vicenç de Montalt and Caldes D'Estrac. Beach: Caleia de la Costa and El Masnou are "blue" beaches flag" of UNESCO. Pineda de Mar, Sant Pol de Mar, Vilasar de Mar and Premià de Mar are recognized as family resorts. Golf Sant Vicenç de Montalt and Golf Club Lavaneres are just a few of the golf courses -clubs located in an area with an excellent climate, with first-class accommodation and excellent local cuisine, designed to suit every taste and budget.

Your kids will love Marineland with its water rides, mini zoo and dolphin and parrot shows. The huge territory of the water park, occupying 40,000 m² and surrounded by pine trees, is located on the northern edge of the coast, where a bus runs several times a day from all the resort centers of the coast.

For lovers of active recreation, diving clubs and equipment rentals for water sports are open.

The pride of the coast is clean and very wide beaches with excellent sand and a warm sea. There are not many rocky and secluded bays here - almost all the beaches are perfectly flat stripes. The sand on most of them is coarse, does not stick to the body and clothes, and does not muddy the sea. There are several suitable diving sites in Santa Susanna and Calella.

The climate of the Costa del Maresme is mild Mediterranean - in summer the sea saves you from the heat, in winter the Pyrenees shelter you from the winds from the north. The average summer temperature is +25-28°C, and the winter temperature is about +9°C. By the end of June, the water warms up to 25°C and swimming brings maximum pleasure.

The Catalans call this place the “fruit coast” - there are a lot of strawberry plantations and orchards here, and the harvest is harvested three times a year.

This coast is famous among Russian-speaking tourists because it is one of the most budget-friendly in the Spanish Mediterranean. Tourists are advised to choose inexpensive three-star hotels that are not inferior in service to expensive “five” hotels. Many people choose this place as a cheap option near Barcelona, accessible by train. From there you can continue your journey to the ancient beauty of Girona.

5 things to do on the Costa del Maresme. Things to do:

  1. Lie on the standard beaches of Pineda de Mar - permanent Blue Flag nominees;

  3. Travel by train to stunning Barcelona;
