Country safety for tourism rating. Rating of the safest countries for tourists. Dangerous Country: Iraq

The ten safest countries for tourists were named by the experts of the World Economic Forum. First up is Finland. Then come the United Arab Emirates and Iceland. Well, Qatar closes the top ten. Well, what places were taken by popular Russian tourist destinations - Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia?

From Qatar to Finland

At the beginning of the summer season, the World Economic Forum (WEF) published a rating of the countries that are the safest for tourists. Each country was evaluated according to five criteria: the reliability of the police services, the number of terrorist attacks, the murder rate (per hundred thousand of the population), as well as the costs of the tourism industry associated with countering terrorism and crime.

According to WEF, the police work most effectively in the following states - these are Finland, New Zealand, Switzerland, Singapore and Norway.

In terms of murder rates, the last places in the world (out of 137 countries studied) are Greece, Cyprus, Japan, Singapore and Iceland.

Most businessmen working in the field of tourism spend on security in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Lesotho, Qatar, Finland, Rwanda.

Americans name specific areas where terrorist attacks can occur

But the largest expenses for countering the terrorist threat have to be borne by businesses in Lesotho, Uruguay, Finland, Iceland and Zimbabwe. It's such a weird neighborhood...

Speaking of terrorism. Although today it is called “global”, however, even last year there were many countries on the planet where they had never heard of terrorist attacks - there were 33 of them (out of 137 studied by WEF experts). Moreover, among them were European states (Poland, Serbia, Romania, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Norway), but also third world countries (Gambia, Uruguay, Vietnam, Bolivia, El Salvador, Costa Rica). Russia occupies 109th place in the ranking, and Ukraine - 127th.

Summing up all the statistical criteria, WEF experts named the five safest countries on the planet, where tourists are not in danger.

Switzerland got eighth place, Rwanda soared to ninth, and Qatar completes the top ten.

In Egypt you can get killed for alcohol

But countries popular with tourists, on the contrary, are content with far from the most prestigious places. Let's say Egypt was only in 130th place - for this state, of course, the terrorist threat is extremely relevant. Since the beginning of this year alone, according to estimates by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Measures to Combat It (START), almost three dozen terrorist attacks have occurred in Egypt, in which more than 180 people have died.

Moreover, they occur not only in the Sinai Peninsula (for Egypt, this is about the same as the North Caucasus - for the rest of Russia), but also in large cities. Since the beginning of the year, there have been several attacks on police patrols in Cairo, and in early April a suicide bomber blew himself up in a Coptic (Christian) church in Alexandria, Egypt's second largest city.

On January 3, a fanatic in the center of Cairo killed a Christian owner of a wine shop. When the owner was calmly smoking a hookah on the street in front of the shop, the Islamist approached him and cut his throat in cold blood. As he later explained to the police, it was a punishment for selling "sinful" goods. By the way, even though Egypt is an Islamic country, you can buy alcohol here without any problems, and in large cities such as Cairo and Alexandria (not to mention coastal hotels) there are even pubs.

In general, the Middle East is an extremely heterogeneous region in terms of security, WEF experts note. There are both terribly dangerous countries here, as well as those that are among the ten most “calm” (Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates).

The authors of the rating note that significant progress in ensuring the safety of tourists has been achieved Bahrain, Iran, Morocco And Algeria. At the same time, for example, Tunisia, which is extremely popular among Russians, occupies only 102nd place in the ranking. Although since the beginning of the year there have been only two terrorist attacks here: on March 12, militants staged a shootout at a checkpoint, and on June 3 they kidnapped and killed a shepherd (both incidents were in the west of the country, very far from the tourist coast).

Experts - the compilers of the rating - note a significant decrease in the positions of such European "resort" countries as Spain And Italy. Again, the culprit is, of course, the threat of terrorism (as well as a marked deterioration in police work).

According to the WEF, the terrorist threat remains extremely high during France, which has survived several major terrorist attacks in recent years.

There are also countries popular among tourists whose low rates are not associated with terror. This, in particular, Mexico, where the level of street and organized crime is traditionally extremely high.

To the airport - like an interrogation

WEF experts note that in the next decade it is the safety of vacationers (and not comfort at all) that will become the main trend in the tourism business of the planet. This is due to the wave of terrorist attacks that have swept across European capitals since 2015.

The world experienced roughly the same thing after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: in ten years, airports and airlines around the planet spent $ 7.5 billion on the introduction of additional security measures.

This is how the TSA PreCheck system, launched in 2011 by the US Transportation Security Administration, works. A passenger who has provided the most complete information about himself (including fingerprints and a biometric photo) is screened at the airport and checked in for a flight faster than others, without a queue.

Another system, GOES, operates similarly, which makes it easier for “reliable” travelers to arrive in the US: they must be citizens of “selected” countries and be interviewed in advance to collect a complete dossier.

Such digital technologies end up making the borders between countries more transparent - but certainly not for terrorists. At the same time, WEF experts note, in continental Europe today they are taking a completely different path: they strengthen security measures by restricting freedom of movement. In fact, the very existence of the Schengen zone, the main achievement of European integration over the past twenty years, has been called into question.

Well, what will be the prospects for "tourist" security in Russia? The Free Press put this question to our experts.

Program Director for the North Caucasus of the International Crisis Group Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya:

In the resort regions of Russia, I do not foresee a serious increase in terrorist risks. New terrorist attacks cannot be ruled out, but rather they are possible in big cities. Although individual attacks on tourists in the North Caucasus (especially in southern Dagestan) can occur at any time. But after all, such a threat has existed for all recent years, and now it has been largely minimized. So there is every reason to expect that the tourist season in Russia will be calm.

Raisu Suleimanov, expert of the Institute of National Strategy and editor-in-chief of the scientific journal "Muslim World":

I believe that in Russia they will copy all the innovations of the security system that are available abroad in order to then implement them in our country. Increasingly, the experience of Israel on measures of control and screening at its main international airport (in Tel Aviv) is taken as a model, since the Jewish state has an effective experience in countering terrorism.

Today, even on domestic flights in Russia, quite a thorough screening has been carried out for a long time: for example, recently I flew from St. that is, these are not dummies of some kind of explosive devices.

"SP": - At the same time, Rais, when the same strict security measures began to be implemented at the games of the Confederations Cup, this caused misunderstanding and rejection by many fans: they say, everything is not so tough in Europe.

But even your publication said that ISIS supporters allegedly invented an improvised explosive device that looks like either a tablet or a laptop. Hence the meticulousness.

Of course, such unusually strict measures create certain inconveniences even at the airport when passing through a metal detector and a luggage scanner. After all, many carry laptops with them in a suitcase or backpack, and everyone has to obediently take them out, turn them on, and show the guard that they are operational. But these difficulties can be endured - safety is more expensive!

The most high-profile scandals before the opening of the holiday season

"SP": - In your opinion, will the strengthening of security measures affect only the transportation of goods through transport hubs?

Of course not! I admit that they will treat religious literature being transported more carefully. Objectively, little is looked at: luggage passes through a scanner, which shows that there is a book or several books in the suitcase. But what is this literature, there is little attention to this issue.

Now they will probably be looking for some extremist book. Although it is unlikely that someone who plans to commit a terrorist attack on an airplane or at an airport will carry with him a book by a Wahhabi preacher. Usually they try not to attract attention. But then the question is who exactly enters the country.

    * "Islamic State" (ISIS) is a terrorist group whose activities on the territory of Russia are prohibited by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of December 29, 2014.

Safety is one of the main criteria that a potential immigrant and an ordinary tourist rely on when deciding whether to move or visit a country for a short time. Unfortunately, today in different parts of the world there are armed conflicts, terrorist attacks are carried out and the overall level of crime is growing. It is on these factors that the security of people and the country as a whole largely depends.

International organizations and major travel agencies on an ongoing basis compile various ratings and lists of states with the highest level of security. According to experts, these are the most suitable destinations for both tourism and a comfortable life. Based on the data of the report "Global Peace Index 2018", compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, let's look at the TOP 10 safest countries on the planet in 2018-2019.

RANKING TOP 10 THE MOST SAFE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

ICELAND

Iceland is deservedly considered the safest country in the world in 2018-2019. This small island nation is located in the North Atlantic Ocean next to Greenland and Great Britain. The population is just over 339 thousand people. Political stability, a strong economy, the absence of territorial disputes and the social cohesion of the inhabitants make Iceland an almost ideal place to live, work and play.

NEW ZEALAND

DENMARK

It is rather difficult to imagine a coup d'état or a civil conflict in Denmark. This northern country has a high standard of living and a reliable social security system, a high-tech economy and a stable political situation. In addition to security issues, according to many reputable publications, Denmark is on the list of the happiest countries in the world.

CANADA

In conclusion, we note that of the 163 states that are analyzed in the report, the safest country in the world 2018/2019 - Iceland, is already in first place. throughout the decade. The bottom lines of the rating are occupied by Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iraq and Yemen.

Compared to last year, the positions of North America, Africa and the Middle East have noticeably deteriorated, and Europe is the most peaceful and secure region on the planet. Among the CIS countries, Russia is located below all - 154th place. Ukraine is on the 152nd line, and the Republic of Belarus is on the 101st.

Six women were killed in an attack in Hurghada in July. A terrorist attack in the heart of Barcelona claimed the lives of 15 people. The Coxsackie virus is rampant on the Turkish coast, in the hotels of Belek and Kemer, more than 36 Russians fell ill. And that's just for a couple of summer months.

But is it really dangerous to travel? Tourists with experience know that holidays abroad can be almost safer than everyday life in their native country. The main reason: you are a tourist, which means you are always on your guard. Remember how many medicines you take with you on a trip and how much you carry with you in your purse to work? A big difference. In addition, in another country you always have medical insurance with you; without it, many countries are simply not allowed to enter. And you will be more likely to cross the road at a red light at home, and not in Paris. "What if I run into a big fine?" - you think. And you will be right. From ignorance of some customs and rules of the country, fear of dealing with law enforcement agencies, you become more attentive to your behavior.

Holidays abroad are almost safer than everyday life

It is impossible to predict everything - the terrorist threat is real in any country, this is the objective situation of today. But saving yourself from unpleasant surprises is easy.

Before the trip, it is worth looking at what they write about the city of stay in the news - you can use the usual search engine and read the crime news for the last week. If the city is not seen in anything criminal and terrorism, then this increases the chances of a safe trip. In Europe and the United States, ratings of more and less safe countries for tourists are compiled. Of course, such lists are subjective, but they are worth a look. As an expert in the field of tourist security with experience in special services told RG, the entire Middle East is colored red on the American and European scale and it is better not to go there for tourist purposes. The safest place is in Scandinavia. There is another rating - the World Economic Forum has compiled a list of countries for 2017 where tourists can feel safe. In the first place - Finland, in the last, 136th - distant Columbia. Also, before the trip, it is worth studying the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on visiting certain countries - they are all posted on the website of the Federal Tourism Agency.

According to WHO, most road traffic deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. These include Thailand, beloved by many travelers, and less popular, at least for us, Africa. So be careful and check the serviceability of the car before driving away from the rental office.

Potentially dangerous are crowded places, processions, holidays. Today it is better to avoid them. And just walking along the streets, do not dress too flashy - having merged with the crowd, you are less likely to become a victim of scammers.

Will you invite me for a visit?

Alina, a student from Yekaterinburg, left an ad on the website of a popular hospitality exchange network: "We are going from Yekaterinburg to warmer climes along the route: Ufa - Samara - Volgograd - Rostov-on-Don - Krasnodar. We will be grateful for the warm welcome, you will have a place on the floor, on the rug (rugs with you), with us - help around the house and sincere conversations over evening tea. As she says, she has no fear of such an overnight stay, this is an adventure, and even the young man persuaded: "And it also does not require special costs, for which you need to work for a whole month."

The international hospitality exchange network, or couchsurfing, is definitely not about those who choose a hotel for a very long time, meticulously look through photos on all possible sites and read all the published reviews. A complete stranger is ready to offer you his home for nothing. You come to him, but do not count on luxurious apartments - as a rule, you have to sleep on a cot in a walk-through room, cook in the same kitchen with the owner of the house. Couchsurfing will help you look at the country through the eyes of locals - who better than them knows where the most delicious seafood is, and where the best coffee is brewed, when is the best time to go to the museum to avoid the crowds. There are many disadvantages - you need to spend time looking for good hosts, spend energy on communication when you don’t feel like it at all after a tiring walk around the city, and the conditions of your stay will not always be ideal. Despite the fact that over the 10 years of the existence of networks of crime cases, it is still worth taking precautions.

Make requests in advance, preferably 3-4 weeks in advance.

Be sure to read reviews about the owner - if there is information on the site that he promised to shelter and disappeared, then it is better to forget about this. At least 20 positive reviews inspire confidence.

It is best for single women not to write to men whose profile resembles the one that is left on a dating site.

When you write a personal request to the owner, ask him to tell about himself as much as possible.

Most people who are willing to give shelter to a stranger love hiking and traveling themselves. Therefore, it is useless to look for someone in July in Irkutsk - everything is on Baikal. So in the summer it is better to plan a check-in on weekdays, so there are more chances of success.

And most importantly. "If you're worried about hosting or meeting someone, don't date," one popular network advises. All responsibility lies entirely with you. The networks themselves are not responsible for your choice.

World map, safest countries in the world

Experts from the medical service company International SOS have compiled an interactive world map showing the most dangerous and safest countries to travel in 2017.

On the map, which can be found on the company's website, the countries are marked with different colors depending on the degree of risk that awaits the arriving tourist.

The most dangerous are marked in dark red: Libya, Mali, South Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Central African Republic, Afghanistan and Venezuela.

This also includes some areas of the Congo, Somalia and Sudan and others, RIA Novosti reports.

States that are slightly safer for tourists are highlighted in orange. This list includes some states of Mexico, the border regions of Colombia and Ecuador, Nigeria, Pakistan, part of India and others.

Ukraine, in the east of which the armed conflict continues, Belarus, Poland, Turkey, Egypt and a number of other countries were classified by experts as states with an average level of danger for tourists. These countries are marked in yellow.

Russia, along with Brazil, China, India, Kazakhstan and some other countries, was classified as a country with "rapidly developing variable risks."

"Green countries", the level of risk in which was considered insignificant, are the USA, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, Slovenia and Denmark.

Factors such as terrorism, politically motivated riots and wars, social unrest, crime rates, the reliability of transport infrastructure, the effectiveness of security and emergency response services, and the country's exposure to natural disasters were taken into account in the creation of the map.

Named the safest countries in Europe for tourists from Russia

The safest for tourists are Estonia, the Czech Republic and Germany, according to Izvestia.

The insurance company SG SOGAZ conducted a study according to which Estonia turned out to be the safest for Russian tourists. It is there that Russian tourists rarely seek medical help.

It is believed that most insured events occur in Bulgaria, Thailand and other resorts popular with Russians. However, this is a very rough estimate, since the majority of Russians travel to these countries. And in this case, the principle works - the more people, the more unpleasant incidents. The SOGAZ company for the first time tried to assess the safety of certain countries based on the frequency of applications for medical policies by those traveling abroad.

In the first half of the year, the insurer recorded 560 cases of tourists applying for diseases, poisoning, injuries and other medical reasons. Covered policies around the world were not included in the calculations. The final list of the study included 25 states, in which a total of 17,000 policies were sold in the first half of the year.

According to the study, tourists who rest in the Baltics are the least at risk. Estonia has become the safest country for Russian tourists. Only 0.5% of tourists (that is, one person out of 200 vacationers) sought medical help in this country. On the second line of the rating was the Czech Republic, where the risk barely exceeds 1% (1.13%). A practically similar situation is in Germany, which closes the top 3 safest tourist countries - only 1.22% of tourists seek medical help. And this despite the fact that these states are one of the most popular destinations among Russian tourists.

The list of countries with a low risk for Russians also includes Slovakia (1.40%), Portugal (2.05%), Serbia (2.37%), Norway (2.86%), Switzerland (3.15%), Italy (3.32%). Hungary closes the top ten safest countries for Russians in the Old World, where the frequency of calls is 3.49%.

According to Dmitry Yanin, Chairman of the Board of the International Confederation of Consumer Societies, there are four factors that affect the traumatism of recreation. Hygiene in the host country (quality of food and water), national cuisine, which may be unusual in taste, hot climate and abundance of sun, as well as alcohol, have an influence.

The less sun, the less problems. In Asia, food is a risk factor. There are problems with both its quality and the quality of water. In addition, in hot countries there are quite extreme beach activities. In Estonia, there is little sun, the cuisine is close to us, such a favorable situation, and most importantly, there is no all-inclusive system with alcohol. You drink less - you get injured less, - Dmitry Yanin explained.
