Autotravel the Carpathians in 10 days. A trip by car to the Carpathians. Tourist complex Bukovel: summer activities

What could be better than mountains? Any traveler - either a beginner or already with a good experience - will say that there is almost nothing more impressive, more exciting and exciting. They find themselves in the mountains, here you can clearly see those who are ready to lend a shoulder, they go here to get distracted, take a break from the hustle and bustle of modern everyday life and feel the breath of nature. A trip to the Carpathians, even if you are stepping on a mountain path for the first time, will definitely become something unforgettable for you. The main thing is to choose the right route!

The best routes in the Carpathians

Choosing the direction and route in the Carpathians is based on the season, on your physical strength and, of course, taking into account the time frame in which you need to squeeze your trip. The statement that “hiking in the mountains is not for everyone, because it is too difficult” is a hackneyed stereotype. Hikes in the Carpathians come in different levels of difficulty and duration, and your guide or you yourself can choose the option that best suits your wishes. It is not necessary to conquer the two-thousanders the first time (although beginners can do it), you can start with easy trekking with a slight height difference. It is very important to register at the checkpoint immediately before the ascent and inform the day and approximate time of the group's return. Remember: safety is paramount.

We offer 12 best routes in the native Ukrainian Carpathians: here are Hoverla with Petros, and Marmarosy, and the Eastern Beskids, and Svidovets, and the picturesque Borzhava. Went!

Goverla. Altitude 2061 m

The highest peak of Ukraine can be reached by several routes. However, the most popular are from the Kozmeshchik and Zaroslyak tracts. The first is a little more difficult, but, according to many travelers, more beautiful. The second one is shorter and simpler.

Kozmeshchik

Route: Upper Sinevidnoye village - Korchin village - Gurkalo waterfall - Dil mountain - Parashka mountain.

How to get there: from Kiev by trains No. 81, 13 Kiev - Uzhgorod to the Skole station, from Lviv by electric train to the Verkhne Sinevidnoe station or the city of Skole (from Skole - by bus or passing transport, distance - about 9 km), from Uzhgorod, Mukachevo - by electric train to the city of Skole.

Adviсe: You can stay in the hotels of the city and in rural estates in the village. Be sure to include the Gurkalo waterfall in your itinerary. If you do not have enough time or feel a lack of energy - do not conquer the peak, limit yourself to a waterfall.

Polonina Rune. Height 1482 m

Polonina Runa (Rivna) is the largest valley of the Carpathians, located within and within the regions of the Transcarpathian region. This is the western part of the Poloninsky Range, between the upper reaches of the Lyutaya, Shipot and Turitsa rivers. Not too high, but very picturesque and seems to be wrapped in velvet. A hike to Polonina Runa will be a great addition to the recreation program for tourists who come to Transcarpathia: it is convenient to get here from Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, and other cities. It is also convenient to travel by train from Lviv. In addition, a road has been laid to one of the peaks of the Poloninsky Range, quite suitable for cars. However, when planning such trips, you should take into account the weather: if you get stuck, it will be tight.

What first of all comes to mind when you hear the word "Carpathians"? Most likely these are Bukovel, Yaremche, Slavske, Truskavets, Mount Hoverla, and other popular tourist places.

Our long trip, which ended a few days ago, took place in completely different areas. It was a lot of positive emotions away from cities and crowds of tourists!

10 days, hundreds of kilometers of mountain roads behind. We managed to see absolutely everything we planned, and even a little more.

You probably followed our movements on my Facebook page. And if not, then subscribe, where I post the most relevant photos that convey impressions in real time. I always leave detailed photo reports for this blog.

Route

During the trip, they wrote to me in a personal with questions about the route and about planning such a road trip. Therefore, I will try to paint everything in detail.

When preparing the route, I tried to avoid very popular tourist places. I chose something unusual in advance, even with a bad and difficult road. Nevertheless, we drove a medium passenger car everywhere we planned. Albeit with difficulty, but passed. And even a couple of times they helped other people on the road, once with a towing cable, and once they “lighted up” a car with a dead battery.

Departure was from Kyiv, along the traditional route Kyiv-Chop. In Stryi we turned towards the Valley.

Hotels and guest houses

After selecting interesting places, you need to think about the place of overnight stays and book hotels. All hotels and guest houses fell into the price category from 200 to 320 UAH per day for two for a room with private facilities. We had breakfast in the room, dinner was cooked on the grill. We did not book accommodation for all days, but left a few days free in case of a change in plans. Because you don’t always know how interesting it will be in a particular place, and how long you want to stay there.

In total, we dashed off a little more than 2000 km.

You have all the input data, so it will not be difficult to calculate the budget for such a trip. I wish all doubters to definitely go to the Carpathians by car! I hope I cleared your doubts.

What did we see?

Now I will describe the most important points, and then, for each of the places there will be a separate detailed post.

1. Ivano-Frankivsk region. The first stop is with beautiful architecture. Here begins the Carpathian foothills. In the photo, the town hall was built in 1863.

Urban Benefit.

2. Benefit is famous for its old mountain narrow-gauge railway called "". We visited Vygoda for the first time in May. At the same time, we decided that we would definitely take a ride on the Carpathian Tram in the summer.

3. . Many acquaintances told me about this place, and finally we saw everything with our own eyes.

Rocks of amazing fantastic shapes up to 80 meters high are located on a vast territory in a beech-spruce forest.

4. The village of Myslivka. A great quiet place to stay for a few days, and not to rush anywhere. However, we devoted a separate day (1313 meters).

5. . One of the five most exotic farms in Ukraine. You will not find it on the map, and it was not at all easy to get there. 8 km along a mountain road, along which even timber trucks drive very slowly, going around huge pits.

6. Have you heard that the Carpathians have a sea? This . The water is clear and you can swim.

7. . There were already enough tourists, however, we managed to make a normal shot.

The old railway tunnel with a length of 1750 m was built back in the days of Austria-Hungary in 1886. During this time, he ceased to cope with the increased traffic, and began to require a major overhaul. The traffic here is very intense, the trains climb the mountain serpentine. Nearby, a few tens of meters away, active construction of a new, double-track is underway. This is the most important transport facility of our country, it is an element of the 5th Pan-European Transport Corridor (Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine - Russia).

8. As a lover of building new infrastructure, I decided to try to drive to the construction site of the new Beskydy Tunnel. We were in Transcarpathia, so we drove from the side of the village Skotarskoe.

This is the southern portal, and the main construction is carried out from the north. There is a town of builders, the main site, equipment.

Let me remind you that the tunnel is a railway, so the entrance for cars there is very conditional. Climbing the mountain serpentine, along which the trucks take out the rock, turned out to be another quest.

9. A couple of hours of climbing, and we are on the mountain Vershok, with a very beautiful view of Polonina Borzhava.

Then our path lay through the Torun and Vyshkovsky passes to the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

10. There we again ended up in Myslivka.

The weather changed frequently, which made it possible to enjoy both the sun and clean cool air after the rains.

Sponsors

The sponsors of our car tour were the Hilton hotel chain, Apple, Philips, Xiaomi, Ford Motor Company and the OKKO gas station network. and UkrAvtoDor.

I'm kidding, of course. The whole trip was for their own money and on pure enthusiasm. But, if you have suggestions - write, we will think together.

The trip was just amazing. I hope that I managed to convey the atmosphere of the amazing Carpathians this summer. But that's not all: there will soon be a separate large photo report for each of the interesting places.

How to find the best hotel in the Carpathians?

Most cheap hotels You

Do you consider yourself a connoisseur of natural beauties, dream of climbing the highest peak of the Ukrainian Carpathians - Mount Hoverla, do you want to visit the holy places of Ukraine? Our journey begins in the Khmelnytsky region from the once powerful and harsh castle of Medzhybizh, continues along Ternopil, where you will see the village of Rukomysh, in which there is a sacred cave complex, and ends in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where several tourist sites are offered for inspection at once: recreation center Bukovel, Mount Hoverla, the ancient church in Yaremche, the Hutsul village of Sheshory and the village of Mikulchin. Have a nice trip!

It is better to discover new towns and villages, unique natural corners, mysterious sacred places, without rushing, without focusing on an excursion group, devoting as much time to each tourist site as it deserves. Therefore, it is best to create an individual route and travel along it in your own or rented car. In favor of the use of such transport is also the fact that, going on a trip through the uninhabited, untouched by man, you will not depend on irregular flights of local buses.
We offer you a route through the most interesting places in three Ukrainian regions, compiled and personally verified by experienced travelers.

Medzhybizh - Rurik fortress

We start our journey from the ancient castle, which is located in the small village of Medzhybizh, a few dozen kilometers from the city of Khmelnitsky. The castle was built next to the Southern Bug River by order of the prince from the Rurik family - Svyatoslav. This happened in 1146 - long before the Mongol-Tatar invasion, but the fortress with thick walls, narrow loopholes, residential buildings and many outbuildings was intended to protect local residents from various troubles and for some time withstood the raids of invaders from the East. The luck of the defenders of the fortress of Medzhybizh ended in 1240, when the Mongols ordered to wipe it off the face of the earth. Only more than a hundred years after the victory of Prince Olgerd, the restoration of the fortress begins. The family of princes Koryatovich is engaged in reconstruction.

The castle once again in its history fell into the hands of the infidels - in 1671, when the Poles handed it over to the Turks on a voluntary basis. They managed to build a mosque on the territory of Medzhybizh, began to settle down, decorated the palace chambers in the oriental style. This went on for 27 years, after which the castle again became owned by Christians - the Sinyavsky family, the princes Czartoryski, and finally, the Russian emperors.

Nowadays, the castle houses a museum of local lore. As a result of a tour of the castle, you can see the church of St. Nicholas, which is located right in the courtyard of the fortress, three towers: the Officer's, the Knight's and the North - and the palace complex itself, built in the Renaissance style. To renew interest in the castle, the historical festival "Ancient Medzhybizh" is held annually on its territory.

Miracles Rukomysh

A small village in the Ternopil region Rukomysh is not very well known among lovers of beautiful landscapes and ancient temples. And absolutely in vain! However, due to its low “hype” among visiting tourists, an atmosphere of holiness and miracle is preserved here.

People have chosen this area since ancient times. Archaeologists have discovered a settlement belonging to the Trypillia culture near Rukomysh. Or rather, what is left of it. But modern pilgrims and travelers come to these amazing places not to stare at the ancient ruins. They are attracted by caves in travertine rocks, in the neighborhood of which this village appeared. In one of these caves, during the time of Kievan Rus, monks from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra founded the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. And next to the cave on the rock you can see the miraculous face of Christ, created by nature itself. It is clearly visible when viewed from below, at a certain angle. According to the researcher B. Voznitsky, there was once a wooden altar at this place, the presence of which is evidenced by small depressions in the rock.
In the neighborhood of the temple, hermits lived for a long time in several caves.

Other wonders of Rukomysh include the Church of St. Onuphry, which was built much later - in 1768. The main shrine of the church is the sculpture of the patron saint of the temple, which was made by the "Galician Michelangelo" - I. Pinzel. The statues of this master adorn only the richest and most famous cathedrals in Western Ukraine.

Pilgrims who come to Rukomysh do not miss the opportunity to go through the procession and visit several local chapels, as well as take a bath in a source of healing water, which can be found under a 300-year-old maple tree.

Tourist complex Bukovel: summer activities

People come to the fastest growing Ukrainian resort Bukovel not only in the winter season, but also in the summer. Bukovel was built as a ski resort, but the presence of thermal springs, as well as virgin nature around and excellent infrastructure that should not stand idle waiting for the cold, have led to the fact that Bukovel is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination at any time of the year.

This resort is located in close proximity to five mountains (Dovga, Bukovel, Bulchinekha, Babi Pogar, Chernaya Kleva), therefore, staying here, travelers get an amazing opportunity to go along one of the tourist walking or cycling routes laid in their vicinity.

In the resort itself, you can see a lake with thermal water, which is constantly heated, so that guests staying in four- or five-star chalets (and there are simply no others here) would be pleased to take outdoor water treatments. In addition, you can go fishing to the lake where trout is found, visit many interesting places in the vicinity of Bukovel, and climb Hoverla.

Legendary Goverla

On the border of two Ukrainian regions - Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk, near the Romanian border, there is an array of Chernogora - one of the mountain ranges of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Hoverla is considered its highest peak, as well as concurrently the highest mountain in Ukraine. This is a Romanian name, which in translation means "hard-to-reach elevation."

Climbing a mountain with a height of 2061 meters is within the power of any sports person. From the top you have a great panorama of the nearby mountains. They say that from Hoverla, in clear weather, you can even see the territory of Romania.
At the foot of this mountain there is a 30-meter cascade of waterfalls - the source of the Prut River. Hoverla and Prut, according to local legend, are considered separated lovers who are always there, but cannot be reunited.

Hutsul church in Yaremche

The Church of St. Elijah is located on the territory of the monastery in a very picturesque place. It is surrounded by mountains covered with dense forest, which perfectly set off the elegance of the multi-tiered building. It was built not so long ago - in 1937. The local Hutsul wood carver and architect I. Yavorsky worked on it. Like numerous houses in these places, built in the Carpathian style, it was made without the use of nails.

After the Second World War, the activity of any clergy in the territory of Galicia was prohibited. The monastery was closed, the monks were released on all four sides, and they wanted to destroy the Elias Church. But believing people did not touch the shrine, thus preserving it for posterity. Divine services in it resumed only in 1990.
The church is worth visiting for its beautiful interiors and stunning carved iconostasis.

Ethnic village of Sheshory

Along the fast mountain river Pistynka, the Hutsul village of Sheshory stretches for 9 km, famous for its unique Carpathian architecture, as well as numerous cascades of amazing beauty. The most popular waterfalls are Big and Small Guk. Small Guk can be found a little above the local bridge. It falls from a height of 2 meters. But the Big Hook falls already from 5 meters and looks simply incredible in the rays of the sun silvering its water. Near the last waterfall there is a source of mineral crystal clear water.

The water in the Pistynka River is warm, which encourages some especially curious tourists to swim in it. The ethnic village of Shoshary offers its guests, in addition to natural beauties, also visits to various workshops, where household items and decorations are created before the eyes of visitors. In this village, ancient customs are carefully adhered to. Local residents are happy to talk about them, show their houses, demonstrate richly embroidered clothes and musical instruments. A trip to the village of Sheshory is an opportunity to get to know the Hutsul traditions better.

Mykulychyn - Mikula's possessions

You can finish your trip to Western Ukraine in the village of Mykulychyn. This is a rich village that appeared in the Carpathians in the XIII century by decree of Prince Galitsky. Several houses built near the Prut River were supposed to serve as an outpost guarding the borders of the prince's possessions. The command over this post was given to a certain Mikula, who became the sovereign owner of the village, which received his name. Now it is a large village, covering an area of 44 km2. and located on the territory of the Carpathian reserve.

What awaits the numerous tourists arriving in Mykulychyn? Unique, unspoilt nature, clean air, permeated with a coniferous smell, peace and quiet, which are not found in large cities. Carpathian meadows, picturesque waterfalls and high mountains - that's what Mikulchyn offers its guests.

It is from here that you can go on a hiking trip along the Gorgana ridge. The highest point of this system is called Sivulya. Its height is 1836 m. Other sights of Gorgan include the huge Synevyr lake and the Manyavsky waterfall.

Recently, Lesya and Yura arranged a mini-tour to the Carpathians for their friends - everyone is delighted with local prices and landscapes ... We learned from them how best to get there, choose accommodation and plan a route.

BEFORE THE TRIP

Two weeks before our trip, my dad went to this mountain with a group. Pop-Ivan, or Black Mountain - the second highest in Ukraine, 2020.5 m, at the top of it stands the abandoned astronomical observatory "White Elephant". We decided to leave on Friday evening in order to return on Monday evening: the road, spending the night, climbing from greenery to snow, spending the night, back home - this is the plan of the Carpathian weekend. According to preliminary calculations, the trip will come out on a budget - about $ 60 (in the equivalent at the rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus 1,075,440 rubles as of the date the material was created. - Ed.) per person (rent a car, an overnight stay in a hotel for our 200,000 rubles for two nights, small expenses), a company of 9 people gathered. We will soak up the beauty of the colorful autumn mountains and let go of small things from our heads.

What to bring

Since we are going to climb the mountain, the shoes must be comfortable, with a hard sole. It is very cold at the top, so we stocked up with windproof jackets. You will still have to carry a warm sweater, gloves, a hat and even, possibly, overalls with you in your backpack. It's important to wear bright colors, but not every home has a skier's wardrobe.

It is convenient to walk with sticks, it distributes the weight. I have three pairs of ski poles, I take everything with me.

AFTER THE TRIP

We waited until a week had passed after the return of the group (do you think how long you need to rest after the Ukrainian roads?), and asked Lesya: "Well, how did you go?"

I really want to go back and spend more time there, at least a week, - Lesya sighs. - So we advise everyone to plan a trip twice as much as we had.

ROAD

It is better not to get out to Ukraine by personal transport, considering what kind of roads there are. I would next time go by train to Ivano-Frankivsk, and from there you can get there by local transport. Of course, in winter it is more comfortable to travel by car, but the road takes a lot of time. And nerves - we were not very nervous, because we drove a rental car.

If you are traveling in a large group (there were 9 of us), then you need to take into account that the usual things for the group stretch out for more time than if you were traveling, for example, four of us: eat in a cafe, get on the bus, go to the toilet at the gas station - everything takes twice as long.

ACCOMMODATION

It turns out that there are a lot of options with housing in the Carpathians - you don’t even have to book via the Internet: it will be cheaper to rent a house or a room upon arrival, and the choice is more diverse. You can just talk to the locals: on the way back we asked in the village where to buy wine and honey, we were told to go to Ivan Ivanych. It turned out that not only shopping was waiting for us on the spot, but also a tour of the family museum, and the opportunity to rent a house. They even offer traditional celebrations and chic Hutsul dinners. We lived in the Lisova Kvitka hotel in the village of Verkhovyna, right by the forest: at the top there is a festival estate, at the bottom there is a river and a village. The food there was not very good - next time we are thinking of going to Ivan Ivanovich or staying closer to the mountain. I really enjoyed walking around "our" village - there is a very beautiful river, shaky bridges across it, a view of the mountains - such Norway.

MOUNTAINS

In the mountains, everything depends on the weather: the mountain we climbed is very simple, the path there is really walking. If the weather is good, there is no problem to climb there. We were not lucky: the weather turned bad when we had very little left. It was impressive in its own way: the clouds were moving over the top, snow and rain were flying around, the wild wind was knocking down - you could get lost at a distance of several meters. We got to the Eared Stones, further there should have been a plain and the last small rise. But nothing was visible, it was already dangerous to go, and we returned back. If you plan to climb there, keep in mind that you need to allocate about 5 hours for the ascent and descent, but at the same time meet daylight hours. Most of the climb must be done at an angle of 45 degrees - be sure to take a cane or stick and distribute the forces. We were divided into three groups so that everyone went at their own pace.

From the shepherd's house there are two trails - orange and blue (according to the designations on the map and on the ground): the orange one is shorter and more difficult, the blue one is more beautiful (forest, meadows, waterfalls, stones). We recommend blue to everyone: simple, beautiful, well marked - you will not go astray.

It is very nice to greet people, to talk with people you meet on the mountain, it is some kind of unity moment.

- Will you go back there to still reach the top and see the observatory?

To be honest, even the next day I wanted to try to climb there again, but everyone had to return to Minsk. On the way, I realized that my legs were already falling off the habit. And when they returned, I really wanted to go again and finish what I started.

People in the Carpathians are special, very reserved. We didn't have enough time to get to know them even better. I can't imagine how I could live there. In the mountains, life must be approached with courage. Upon arrival, many participants became interested in learning more about these places - they recently arranged a joint viewing of the film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by Parajanov.

We returned home through Bukovel - the road turned out to be better there. Everyone managed to pick up souvenirs at the market (woolen socks, local herbs). We also stopped at the beautiful Guk waterfall and a local brewery. Here is a video taken by one of the participants of the trip.

Photo: heroes archive.

Early in the morning we left Kyiv. On the road, we were accompanied by drizzling rain, gray landscapes changed outside the window ... We flew to Rovno in one breath, but then the route was only four-lane in places, and often we had to reach for a string of trucks.

The cultural capital met us, oddly enough, with the sun! Considering this as a good sign, we set off towards the mountains. The destination was the village of Volosyanka, Lviv region, next to the famous ski resort Slavske.

As soon as the flat terrain began to change into hilly, it immediately became more beautiful outside the window, and more dangerous on the highway. Indeed, in the mountains there was already a slight frost and the asphalt was covered with a crust of ice. Fortunately, winter tires ContiViking Contact 6 cope well with such conditions. But the speed is still worth keeping lower, slowing down in advance, and turning the steering wheel more smoothly.

And here we are! The journey took about 13 hours. In the summer season, we would spend about 9, but winter requires accuracy and slowing down. There are mountains and snow around, and a lift is already working nearby. The skiing and snowboarding season is open! The next day, we drove around a bit and decided to have a picnic for ourselves - we fried a barbecue on the grill. In the hotel where we stayed there was a specially designated place for this with a supply of firewood, and in the nearest store there was excellent meat.

The second day in the Carpathians turned out to be the hardest and the coolest at the same time. We decided to test ourselves, our car and tires in an adult way, and set off on a snowy mountain road. The main goal is to drive short, but frankly bad roads to Lake Synevyr.

The locals looked at us with shocked looks and almost twisted their fingers at the temple. According to them, “they drive UAZs here in the summer” and there is nothing for our Suzuki Vitara to do here. We were also ready for the fact that at any moment we would have to run to the village for a tractor or a shishiga, but the car was moving. I was driving on winter road tires, but all-wheel drive, connected by a multi-plate clutch!

Of course, several times still had to stop and wait for the transmission to cool down. But I didn’t have to use third-party help! Only twice did we use tracks and a sapper shovel.

We reached Synevyr when it was already getting dark - the daylight hours are short now. When we stopped in front of the barrier, which opens the last kilometer of the road to the lake itself, an SUV prepared for off-road was standing in front of us. The guards of the reserve said that it was impossible to go upstairs, the guys on the "rogue" turned around, but we still took the risk! In the end, to the amazement of all employees, our team overcame the climb and Vitara became the first car in a week that was able to get there!

/

We got to the place of lodging for the night already along the tracks. But the road had to spend the same 7 hours. Heavy snowfalls did not allow trucks to overcome the passes, almost all roads were blocked. After standing in traffic jams for many hours, we finally reached the hotel. And the next day we set off on our return journey.

I did not want to leave the Carpathians. As soon as the mountain landscape gave way to the plains, we all felt a little sad. After all, as you know, only mountains can be better than mountains! But we managed to bring winter and snow with us to Kyiv. Let this create difficulties for traffic, but the fabulous New Year's atmosphere has finally reached Kyiv.

And in order to fully experience all the emotions that we received on our trip, watch the video from the “First Automobile”:

What you need to take if you are going to the mountains

When you go to the mountains, you need to be prepared for the fact that traffic there, especially in winter, is much more difficult than in flat terrain. Do not even think of going on such a winter trip on bad tires!

If they are already pretty worn out, they should be replaced. We installed brand new Continental Conti VikingContact6 winter tires a long time ago and they justified and even exceeded our expectations when they showed excellent results not only on the winter track, but also off-road, for which they are not intended.

If you are going to drive on roads that are “not quite roads”, be sure to grab snow chains. Find a place in the trunk for a sapper shovel - this simple device can be indispensable in snowy weather. Trucks are great for getting out of loose snow.

At the same time, the main thing is not to save money - ours, which, according to the packaging, are designed for 12.5 tons, broke under 10 times less weight of Vitara. However, they still did their job.

Driving Features

First of all, don't rush! Even if you have an excellent four-wheel drive car and excellent winter tires, keep your speed much lower than in summer. After all, if not yours, then another car can sharply bring, deploy, take out into the oncoming lane.

Think over all your movements in advance, perform all maneuvers smoothly. If, like us, you go off-road, a new, very important rule is added - do not stop! As long as you can keep going, keep going.

After all, having stopped, you can no longer budge without outside help. It is very important to find and keep the line between the speed, which is enough not to get stuck, and the speed is safe.
