This is a rather high waterfall consisting of four cascades, connecting which, we get twenty-three meters in height. However, there is little water, a full-flowing waterfall can only be seen during the thaw period. The rocks from which the streams of water fall are dotted with many grottoes, cavities and caves - they are composed of sandstone and if you dig into them, you can now find various fossils that are a good ten million years old. Although excavations are best left to archaeologists.

How to get there?

As a rule, an excursion to the waterfall is combined with a visit to other attractions - the Ryzhik spring, the Kotkh ridge, the Pillar of the World,.

From Krasnodar to Goryachiy Klyuch is only 60 km, so you can see all the sights without any problems in one day.

You can start your journey from the beginning of Shchorsa Street or the Irkutsk Division. You can park your car here, or in the resort part of Goryachiy Klyuch. You don’t even have to drive into the city - leave your car in a large parking lot on the highway near the Old Castle cafe. Here you will cross the Psekups River on a pedestrian bridge and find yourself in the same tourist area. Our weekend itinerary will just end at this point, so it will be easier to get to the car on the way back.

There are many trails and paths in the forest, so it is better to use a navigator or install maps.me or any other phone navigator on your smartphone. The first part of the way you need to constantly move along the Maltsev creek. The first spring that flows into the Maltsev stream will lead us to the Ryzhik spring. There is nothing beautiful here, so if you do not need drinking water, then it is not necessary to come here.

The second stream will just lead to the mirror rock.

If you return to Meltsev erik and continue moving upstream, you will soon see a waterfall.

Bypassing the waterfall on the left and climbing the mountain, you will find yourself on the jeep road. This road leads to the Dantovo Gorge, first passing along the Kotkh ridge past the Klyuchevaya Mountain and the observation deck, on which the Peace Pillar is installed.

Track and coordinates

The oldest balneological resort in the Caucasus - Goryachiy Klyuch - is famous throughout the country for its health resorts and unique, picturesque nature. One of its main attractions is the Ayuk waterfalls. You can perfectly combine your stay here with a trip to this magnificent natural monument.

Where are the Ayuk waterfalls located on the map?

They are located in the southern part of the Goryachiy Klyuch urban district. Moving a little to the south, you can go to the Arshaluys Khanzhiyan monument.

Geography and legends

Many reviews call the Ayuk waterfalls the most famous wealth of mother nature in the Goryacheklyuchevsky district. Being a cascade system of extraordinary beauty, they are formed by the flow of the Burlachenkova Shchel stream, which is a tributary of the Chepsi River. The latter originates from the Ayuk River, on behalf of which, in fact, the famous rapids began to be called. They are a complex of two magnificent cascades, with a total height of 9 m:

  • upper - 4 m;
  • lower - 5 m.

Over the long years of its existence, the Ayuk waterfalls have created at the foot of a vast and deep natural pool of 10 square meters. m. Swift and fast, they carved this bowl in the sandstone rocks, with crystal clear, transparent waters - as reviews say, the temptation to plunge into the reserved reservoir is extremely great.

It's hard to imagine, but a long time ago, the locals, apparently, did not like the area near the waterfalls. The name of the river Ayuk comes from the Adyghe "ayuko" - "bad place", "bad valley". What is the reason for such a dissonant name - now it is already quite difficult to find out. Today, waterfalls surrounded by a dense green forest cannot be called bad - they delight those who come with fantastic charm and peaceful calmness.

What is interesting about resting at the Ayuk waterfalls?

As evidenced by the responses of tourists from the city of Goryachiy Klyuch, Ayuk waterfalls are quite easily accessible. You can get to the beginning of the route leading to them either by regular bus or by private / rented car. At the very beginning of the journey, it is necessary to overcome the ford of the Chepsi River, and then walk 6 km along the paved dirt road.

It is worth being careful in bad weather, especially in early spring and autumn - the path is blurred. In this case, not only comfortable sportswear is useful, but also rubber boots. In general, the route is suitable for every category of tourists with any level of physical fitness - both for small children and for pensioners. The only condition is suitable shoes for the season.

The ultimate goal of the path is striking at first sight. The dazzling white color of water jets, due to billions of air bubbles in the stream, is the main distinguishing feature of the Ayuk Falls cascade. The photos from here are spectacular - the boiling, falling giants seem to have left the picture of a skilled artist.

Ayuk waterfalls descend from impressive mossy rocks in thousands of thin jets. It seems that huge, layered boulders of stone are carelessly built by man, but no, such beauty was created by the nurse-nature itself. Water falls down several steps into a large natural bowl where you can take a dip on a hot, sunny day.

The rapids are surrounded by an emerald deciduous forest, in the shade of which it is so pleasant to be on a hot summer day. Time seems to freeze here: the sound of a powerful waterfall fascinates from the first second. In this unusual place, you can enjoy solitude with your own thoughts and almighty nature.

In addition to walking

Many fans of off-road driving choose the Ayuk waterfalls as the goal of their route: the dirt road is perfect for extreme driving. It is also easy to go here by bike - such a walk will take less time than a hike. A little higher is a comfortable clearing for a picnic, a small tourist camp. Here you can often meet tourist groups with tents.

Travelers who find themselves on the Ayuk waterfalls can visit several more educational objects located nearby:

  • The Small Phanagoria Cave is a small cave cavity with a narrow and high cracked portal. The place is ideal for the most courageous and fearless tourists;
  • – a small settlement in a picturesque gorge with a rich history, where you can see a memorial complex with chapels and the ruins of an ancient fortress;
  • The Great Phanagoria Cave is one of the largest karst depressions in the entire Krasnodar Territory. Very interesting and unusually picturesque sightseeing object.

How to get (drive)?

The most convenient way is to take a regular bus from Goryachiy Klyuch to the village of Fanagoriyskoye, from where you can already go on a walking tour to the waterfalls. On the map, the route from the specified village to the considered sights looks like this:

The Caucasian resort, which is primarily associated with healing mineral waters, incredible landscapes and health-improving sanatorium holidays, is, of course, Goryachiy Klyuch. Ayuk waterfalls fit well into the measured rhythm of life in this calm and quiet area. A trip here allows you to enjoy the magical landscapes of the region and bathe in protected natural baths. In conclusion, watch a video walk to them, enjoy watching!

Kaverzinsky waterfalls - A great option for a weekend hike. They are located near the creek Tambovskaya Shchel. This is a tributary of the Arakelova Shchel stream, which, in turn, flows into the Kaverze River.

There are five waterfalls in total, the most famous of them is Big Kaverzinsky. It is also the farthest - located 5.5 km east of the village of Khrebtovoy. It is also the most picturesque waterfall in the local area. From a height of 10.5 meters, several jets fall into a vast pool along a wide sandy-limestone layer, and there is an exit of rocks around the waterfall.

The route to the waterfall is simple, does not require special training and equipment. From Krasnodar to the starting point of the hike is only about an hour's drive. It is better to inspect the waterfalls in the spring, when they are full of water. It is more convenient to overcome the route in rubber boots - a significant part of the path runs along the river.

How to get there

On the M4 Don highway, 15 km from Goryachiy Klyuch, you need to turn to the village of Khrebtovoy. There is no sign on the road, so the only landmark is the monument to the soldiers by the roadside and the picturesque pine tree next to it. Behind the monument to the left begins primer. You can leave your car right here, or you can drive a little further across the ford to the apiary and park nearby for a fee (about 100 rubles).

Turn on the highway Krasnodar-Dzhubga
Attention, the reversal is further. But you need to turn onto a dirt road at this stop, a stele is installed next to it

Coordinates of the parking lot - 44.530049, 38.960574

Dirt road section and parking lot:

On the dirt road through the forest you have to overcome about five kilometers. Then the road forks. A more well-trodden branch goes up to the right - this is the path to Chubataya Gora, to the waterfalls - to the left to the dilapidated bridge and further to the canyon.

After a few kilometers, the path will end and the path will have to be overcome directly along the stream bed (it is unlikely that you will not be able to get your feet wet).

On the way to the Small Kaverzinsky waterfall

On the way to the Small Kaverzinsky waterfall

The first in the direction of travel will meet the Small Kaverzinsky waterfall. He falls from a height of four meters down two steps. Right above it, it is convenient to stop for a break and have a bite to eat, there is also another small waterfall nearby.

From the Small to the Big waterfall along the bed of the Tambov gap about a kilometer of the way, but you will have to jump over the stones and overcome the ford, so you will not get there too quickly.

The path from the Small to the Big Kaverzinsky waterfall:

Big Kaverzinsky waterfall in March:

To the left of the waterfall there is a small log ladder. Climbing up it and walking about 300 meters, you can meet another small stream that flows out of the Universitetskaya cave. Next to it there is a convenient place for a halt, and inside the cave you can see a few meters deep. From here you can return to the beginning of the route or go forward to Fanagoriysky.

Ascent to the Universitetskaya Cave

Despite the fact that in April the forest looks much more interesting, there is already significantly less water in the waterfalls:

The Kaverzinsky waterfalls are located on the Tambovskaya Shchel stream, a tributary of the Kaverze River, also known as Kaverze, or Kobza. The nearest settlement is the village of Khrebtovoye, 15 km from Goryachiy Klyuch along the M4 highway towards Dzhubga. There is no sign on the highway, so you need to find a landmark on the left in the direction of travel - a monument to soldiers at the side of the road, next to which a picturesque pine tree, noticeable from afar, grows.

Behind the monument, before reaching the public transport stop, you need to turn left onto a dirt road. You can park your car right here and continue on foot. You can drive a little further, overcome the ford (usually it is passable for all cars) and get to the apiary, where they offer to look after the car for a small fee. The SUV will be able to drive even further, but the condition of the primer changes depending on the rains.

The first part of the path passes along a dirt road in the forest - 5 km. Two forks will meet: at the first one you need to turn right (the left branch of the road is overgrown and untrodden), at the second - to the left (and the right branch goes up). A couple of kilometers after the second fork, the convenient path ends and then you need to go along the bed of the Tambov gap stream. With rare exceptions, at any time of the year, jumping from shore to shore over stones and logs, you can not get your feet wet, but it is more convenient and faster to walk on water in rubber boots.

Even less than half an hour of walking - and on the right in the direction of travel opens a tributary of the stream with the Small Kaverzinsky waterfall. Its height is small - about 4 m, but it looks picturesque, falling in a cascade of two wide stone steps. In May, when the trees are already covered with foliage, you may not even notice that behind it there is another, no less pretty waterfall of about the same height. Above the waterfall is also a convenient place for parking or lunch.

From here to the Big Falls there is a kilometer of the way. The height of the Big Kaverzinsky waterfall is slightly more than 10 m.

It can be bypassed on the left with a ladder of logs tied with ropes. It is quite reliable and has been used for many years, it is periodically updated by someone.

You should definitely rise above the waterfall: the stream bed there is the most beautiful. Another three hundred meters - and in front of us two tributaries of the stream merge, and between them another small water stream descends along bizarre stone steps, it flows out of the Universitetskaya cave.

Climbing these steps, we find ourselves on a steep path up, leading to a very cozy clearing, next to which is the entrance to the Universitetskaya cave. A stream flows from the cave, the entrance to it is narrow and therefore difficult, but you can explore it a few meters deep if you grab a flashlight. Near the cave is a good place to camp. From here you can go back the same way or continue the route up through Mount Shchetka and go to Fanagoriyskoye.

Tourists who have visited Goryachiy Klyuch, Hell Falls are always impressive no less than other natural sights of the Krasnodar Territory. It is difficult to understand until you see it with your own eyes, what made it so beloved by travelers. Despite its small size compared to other similar objects, it has an inexplicable energy, magic, thanks to which it attracts and fascinates.

Where is Hell Falls located on the map?

It is located in the southwestern part of the Goryachiy Klyuch urban district. The nearest villages are Fanagoriyskoye (in the northeast) and Podkhrebtovoye (in the southwest).

Geographic features, origins, legends

The basin of the Psekups River, which originates in the northeast of Mount Lysoy, includes 50 streams and 15 rivers. All together they form 22 mini-cascades, some of which were discovered not so long ago. The most famous of the two dozen sources is the Hell Falls, which is located on the Hell's Gap Creek, a tributary of the Chepsi. Its height is only 12 m, but thanks to its spectacular appearance, it has become famous and visited. Of course, the popularity is also explained by its mysterious and romantic name.

Why the waterfall got such a name is hard to say. Most likely, because of the sharp mountain-rocks, dark forest and powerful energy surrounding the protected area. Taken together, these factors produce a frightening impression on individual visitors, although this can be argued. For him, a comparison with a picturesque and mysterious fantastic picture is more suitable than with a frightening Kingdom of the Dead.

Indigenous peoples of the area usually write legends about such places or sincerely believe in their magical abilities. Local residents of the area previously believed that the local waters hide behind them a passage to the afterlife. The Adygs avoided the ominous valley, tried not to set foot on nearby lands, and even more so not to collect liquid from here for cooking and drinking.

A distinctive feature of the Hell Falls is a deep natural bowl, which was formed by a turbulent current. Jets fall from a huge layered sandstone rock, splitting and gathering together again to join in a pool of blue water at the foot. The lower water slope flows down from a boulder with an angle of incidence of 45 degrees. The second, upper, has a steepness of 90 degrees, slightly higher than the first.

The reviews of travelers who have already managed to enjoy the magnificent gorge of the unique object in Goryachiy Klyuch are only positive: the opening panorama of the rocky valley and the gloomy thicket amazes and hypnotizes the audience, making them come back again and again.

Visiting Hell Falls: routes and recreation

It is better to travel to it accompanied by an experienced conductor, guide or as part of an excursion group. The area around is quite dense, impassable - it is easy to get lost here and turn in a different direction among the rugged mountain vegetation and rock formations. The path is laid along the path along the bed of the stream, so for a walk you should choose non-slip, waterproof shoes and comfortable clothes, including a windbreaker or a long-sleeved sweater - it is quite cool near the waterfall. It is better not to take small children on the route.

The gorge is extremely picturesque: in dense relic forests, many other waterfalls, small rapids and rivers are found. Creating your own itinerary or choosing an existing tour is worth it in order to capture as many natural attractions around as possible during the trip. Usually, the most time is allocated for viewing Hell Falls. The landmark that indicates the correct direction of movement to it is huge (more than 1.5 m high) boulders between the road and the stream. Immediately behind them, the desired canyon will open.

Hell Falls fascinates at first sight: once near it, it is difficult to take your eyes off the majestic picture that opens up. Foamy jets, falling off a powerful mossy cliff, break on sharp stones and snags. The dense beech massif and high rocks around cast a shadow, letting in only small rays of the sun, in which streams and spray shimmer like precious stones. The bewitching landscape is difficult to describe in words: even a photo of the Hell Falls cannot fully convey its beauty.

In the clearing around the waterfall and near its very edge, you can see enchanted tourists: most of them stay to contemplate it for more than one hour. Here you can arrange a spectacular photo shoot, think about the eternal and enjoy the healing forest air. The visit can be combined with a visit to some nearby interesting objects, for example. If your journey starts from the Goryachiy Klyuch, then you will pass with the Psyfabe fortress, and, and other attractions in the vicinity of the city.

How to get (get there)?

As a rule, excursions here start from the village of Fanagoriyskoye, which can be easily reached from Goryachiy Klyuch by minibus No. 193. Well, then we offer a path on the map, part of it can be overcome by car, but the other is only pedestrian:

Many tourists recommend that you definitely visit the Hell Falls - the Hot Key will open before you from an unknown and somewhat mysterious side. The slightly gloomy, bewitching landscape of its valley, the endless flow of the cascade and the frantic energy make an incredible impression on every wanderer who comes here. It is simply impossible to remain indifferent to the fantastic panorama.
