History of this place

Since the 14th century, this territory has been called Bear Lakes. At first it was owned by the monastery, then it passed to the Grand Duke. These were hunting grounds, for which the place got its name. Then, centuries ago, a settlement of the same name was formed here. It was owned by Prince Alexander Menshikov.

The village of Bear Lakes was famous in the 18th century for handicraft production of fabrics. Silk weaving was developed here. But after the revolution, this craft fell into decline, the population of the village greatly decreased. And only at the end of the 20th century, the Bear Lakes became known again.
