Costa de Caparica is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, on the opposite bank of the Tagus River from Lisbon. In this place, popular among the Portuguese, there are sandy beaches stretching almost 30 kilometers from the Caparica area to Cape Espichel, many eucalyptus and pine trees grow. But the Costa de Caparica is more than huge white sand beaches, although this is the first thing that everyone who has been there will remember. The town is a traditional fishing village, where you can often meet women selling fresh fish, as well as tasting a variety of fish dishes in the many restaurants and bars. There are waves for surfers and beaches for nudists - Costa de Caparica will give you a vacation for every taste.

How to get to the Costa de Capariki

The nearest international airport is located 15.5 km in Lisbon, from where you can get to Costa de Caparica by bus, train and taxi.
  • by train: across the Tagus river to Pragal railway station and then by bus number 196 to Kaparik. The train can be a good alternative on weekends and will help you avoid traffic on the bridge connecting Lisbon and the other side of the river.

Then you need to walk about 5 minutes to the south along the boulevard, where there is a small train that leaves every half an hour. Bus number 161 from Areiro Square will also take you to Caparica. Is there an alternative itinerary that includes a mini ferry cruise from Cais do Sodr? across the river to Cacilhas, then take bus number 138 to Costa de Caparica.

The 124 bus ride through the Almada will turn into a big detour and take you back to 1960 with its high-rise overwhelming architecture - best avoided.

  • by taxi: a taxi from Lisbon will cost 14-17 EUR.

Transport Costa de Capariki

The most convenient way to get to the southern beaches from the city is a small train that runs all summer until the end of September. A round trip will cost, depending on the distance, 4.5-7.5 EUR (2.5-4.5 EUR one way). The route has 21 stations, stops 19 and 20 are next to the nudist and most famous Portuguese gay beach.

Beaches and bars

The beaches of the Costa de Capariki are famous for their fine white sand, which attracts thousands of tourists every year. The best of them - Morena and Sereyya ("Mermaid") - are surrounded by dunes with good bars. Further south, Lagoa de Albufeira is a quiet family beach, which, by the way, is actively used by windsurfers. There is a club at almost every train stop, and the further south you go, the more likely you are to enjoy a quiet, secluded vacation.

Cuisine and restaurants

The cuisine of Costa de Caparica has a huge number of fish dishes, because this is a traditional fishing village. On the streets and beaches you can find a lot of fish restaurants and bars. Via Caparica is a cozy family restaurant with a good atmosphere and delicious food, located on the central shopping street of the city. Praia da Cabana do Pescador has a nice beachfront restaurant with live music, sofas and refreshing drinks. There are never too many people there, as everyone is in a hurry to the beach to the ocean.

Attractions and attractions of the Costa de Capariki

A few kilometers from the city, new golf courses have been built, which are the largest golf center in the vicinity of Lisbon. The landscape of the fields is quite complex, especially near the last 9 holes, where there are numerous lakes. Also not far from the Costa de Caparica is the Arriba Area - a protected area of more than a thousand hectares. This area is full of ancient fossils of marine origin and rocks, some of which are 15 million years old.

On the south bank of the Tagus River, on the other side of Lisbon, is the famous strip of sandy beach, which stretches for 30 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean - Costa-da-Caparica. On the streets you can meet residents selling fresh fish, and on the beaches there are fish restaurants and bars, because this is a traditional fishing village. The ocean wind makes this beach a popular destination for surfers. There are even beaches for nudists! Holidays for all tastes, but..

Relaxing on the beach is difficult. Maybe I'm unlucky and usually the weather is more favorable for a beach weekend, but the wind from the ocean discourages any desire to undress, despite the thirty-degree temperature. On the contrary, I put on a sweatshirt, which I took with the expectation of evening time. The locals looked adapted, but only a few entered the water - it is icy.

1. I got to the Costa de Caparica in two stages. First, by city bus to the Cristo Rei monument, ala the statue of Jesus Christ, then by bus number 161 to the beach. I noticed that the Portuguese never sit on the seats for the disabled, even if they are not. Out of habit, I sat down on a free one and could not understand why I was sitting alone.

2. Entry to Lisbon is paid - 1.65 euros.

3. At the monument to Cristo Rei, an observation deck was organized on the April 25 bridge. Due to the similarity in design and color, Most them. April 25 is compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. However, the April 25 Bridge was built by the same company (American Bridge Company) that built another bridge across the bay between San Francisco and Oakland (Bay Bridge). This explains the design similarities between the April 25 Bridge and the Bay Bridge, especially given that both are located in earthquake-prone areas.

4. After entering the territory of the Costa de Caparica, the bus makes stops only on request. The first thing I saw when I came out of it.

5. The time was closer to dinner, so we needed a shop or a place to eat. Sweet cherries are almost 100 rubles cheaper than in Nizhny Novgorod stores.

6. In Portugal, I used to find shops similar to Bristol, where there is booze, water, cola, sweets and chips. Anything but food. For food, you need supermarkets, which the hell you can find. On the main street, an establishment was found with an attractive price for very strange dishes. At the checkout, I came across a girl who is not boom-boom in English at all. I failed to understand her and find out what kind of green soup with sausage and a bun. But a Russian employee of this institution came to the rescue!

7. The soup was strange, but everyone else was tasty and satisfying. Now I don't remember what it was called.

8. As my friend says, after a delicious dinner, according to the law of Archimedes, it is necessary<вставить нужное действие>. In this case, go to the beach.

9. One of the many beaches of the Costa da Capariki.

10. Where else can you stand in a T-shirt and sweatshirt at +30 at 2 pm? On the ocean, where the heat is not felt at all. After about 20 minutes, my head began to buzz notably from the wind.

11. Sandy beach goes off-screen.

12.

13.

14. Some residents use fishing boats as shelter from the wind.

15.

16.

17. Approximately every hour a wild bustle begins on the beach. I'll tell you the details next time!

18. There are such houses along the coast - there is a cafe or a bar, as well as a toilet and a shower.

19. Forms.

20. I decided to stay until sunset. There was still a lot of time - I went to explore the city, but did not find anything interesting.

21.

22.

23.

24.

25. Made such castles as a child.

26.

27.

28.

29.

30. By sunset, the wind died down and the waves became calmer. It was nice to play.

31.

32. The last bus to Lisbon leaves at about 23. I had to hurry a bit.

Such was the day. Now there are two oceans in the piggy bank.

Costa da Caparica - Costa da Caparica is a very popular destination for beach holiday V . Residents especially love these beaches. The most important confirmation of this is the huge traffic jams from May to October on weekends on bridge on April 25: in the morning towards Costa, in the evening towards , as well as large traffic jams in the afternoon on weekends at the exits from the beaches. In my opinion, the entry / exit from the beaches themselves is poorly organized. I mean the beaches that are at some distance from, in fact, Costa. There is one single two-lane road (one lane back and forth) for entry and exit, and dirt roads already depart from it to the beaches themselves. Which is a pity, since the beaches in the Costa area are very good and worthy of the best entrances.

Therefore, I think that on weekends and at the height of the season it is convenient to go to Costa da Caparica to the beach by public transport. I understand that in one direction you can still go anywhere by public transport, but back .. everyone is relaxed and you don’t want to move much, but what can you do .. but you want to stand in a traffic jam for hours?

Beach holidays in Costa da Caparica

The beaches in the Costa da Caparica area, I would say, are excellent without exaggeration. The entrances and approaches to the beaches in the area of the city itself, adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, were recently rebuilt. Also, the entire infrastructure was rebuilt, incl. restaurants. Everything has a modern look. A road was made for a promenade and sports, like the "Sea Route" in the Oeiras district to the west of Lisbon, which I wrote about in.

This waterfront road is also very popular with locals and outdoor enthusiasts from other places. The beaches stretch for kilometers south of Costa da Caparica. Light fine sand simply invites you to stretch out on it and finally relax. The water is clean. There are big waves here regularly, but not always, of course. According to the old-timers, in terms of temperature, the best time for swimming on these beaches is in September-October. Due to the currents in summer, the water is cool even despite the hot weather. But beach lovers - Lisbon residents have never been stopped by this. Along all the beaches there are many restaurants where you can sit down for a cocktail or a glass of juice for the whole day.

It is impossible not to mention that the beaches of Costa da Caparica are very attractive for sports recreation. As I wrote above, there is a special road for walking and sports, as well as a section for cyclists on the side. Here on the beaches a lot of people go in for water sports: surfing, body board, windsurfing, etc., and all year round, without exaggeration.

This parrot Rosa poses wonderfully in front of the camera. I took a picture of her in one of the beach restaurants in Costa da Caparica

In summer, a small train runs along the beaches. It is very convenient to get to the beaches from Costa and back, especially when everyone is in traffic jams. The train runs once an hour. The ticket cost about 3.5 euros one way.

And there is also a nudist beach Praia do Meco (Praia do Meco) - "the official naturist area." It is located south of Fonte da Telha (Fonte da Telha) - look at the map, everything is clear there. Locals say that it's good there, even when there are crowds of people on other beaches - it's free there.

Interesting! Another attraction of Costa da Caparica is the restaurants of one curious character, whose name is Barbas (Bárbash), which means “bearded”. The restaurants say BARBAS and even have his photo. By the way, these restaurants are popular. Who he is and what he is famous for: this is a real person and is famous for being one of the most avid fans of the Benfica club and attending literally all of the club's games, including abroad. And, as you probably already guessed, this man wears a huge beard, for which, in fact, he got his nickname. Article about football in Portugal.

So, I have already told about the main points of the beaches of Costa da Caparica, now it's time to find out how to get there, after all? Well, according to tradition, I tell you how to get there by public transport.

The beaches of Costa da Caparica can be reached in the following ways:

  1. By bus direct from Lisbon to Costa da Caparica.
  2. By ferry from Lisbon to Casillas, then by bus to Costa.
  3. By ferry from Lisbon to Trafaria, then also by bus to Costa.

Choose whichever suits your taste.

Attention! Ticket prices are as of February 3, 2014. Also, bus schedules can be saved to your computer and opened in a larger format for greater readability, because. this is png format.

This route is the most direct. You calmly take the bus in Lisbon and drive to Costa da Caparica.

I made the route of buses 153 and 161 below on the map from the stop in front of the railway station Alcântara Terra (Alcantara terra) to the final stop in Costa da Caparica (Costa da Caparica). Buses start their routes at other stations, but I find it very convenient to take a bus in Alcantara. I travel from there all the time. There are many buses to this stop, and when you are already on the bus, you won’t have to stand in city traffic jams, since Alcantara is the last stop before leaving the city across the April 25 bridge. The route from the bridge to Costa is approximate, because we are more interested in the final stop than the journey itself.

Please note: on the map, I indicated exactly where the stop is in Alcântara (Alcantara) on Avenida da Seuta (Avenida Da Ceuta), and also exactly the place of the final stop in Costa da Caparica (Costa da Caparica).

How much does it cost to travel on route 1:

  • on bus 153 travel from Lisbon to Costa da Caparica costs 3.25 euros one way.
  • on bus 161 travel from Lisbon, from Praça do Areeiro (Praça do Areeiro) to Costa da Caparica costs 4.10 euros one way.

  • We take the ferry to Cacilhas(Casillas). Here is the ferry timetable >><< и >> <<.
  • IN Cacilhas(Casillas) sit down on bus 124 >> <<

How much does it cost to travel on route 2:

Eventually, the cost of the trip on the 2nd route 8.86 or 8.90 euros.

Route 3: Lisbon - Trafaria - Costa da Caparica
(Lisboa – Trafaria – Costa da Caparica)

Let's go to the pier Belé m(Belen), you can get there by train, bus, tram.

  • We take the ferry to Trafaria(Stencil). Here is the ferry timetable >><< и >> <<.
  • IN Trafaria(Traparia) sit down on bus 129 >> <<
  • Let's go to final stop– Costa da Caparica (Costa da Caparica) . The stop in Koshte is located in the same place as indicated in route 1.

How much does it cost to travel on route 3:

Directions to ferry:

  • by card with Zapping the trip will cost 1.12 euro.
  • regular ticket - "trip" by ferry from Belé m(Belen) stands before Trafaria 1.15 euro. Here you will also need a 7 Colinas or Viva Viagem card. (details in this article). Alternatively, you can buy at the box office on the pier, and then turn it in when you return and you will be returned 50 cents.

Directions to bus 129 :

  • one way bus ticket 129 for travel from Trafaria(Stencil) to CostadaCaparica costs 2.25 euros. There are no round-trip tickets on this route either, so you will have to pay separately for each trip.

Eventually, the cost of the trip on the 3rd route round trip from the marina in Lisbon to Costa, per person will cost 6.74 or 6.80 euros.

Summary: what we get

  • The 3rd route turns out to be the most inexpensive, but you have to go to the pier in Belem and ferries go there infrequently now: the crisis, you know. Pay attention to the schedule. And if you live there nearby, then this will be the most convenient option.
  • The 1st and 2nd route turns out to be about the same money, only the first one, of course, will be more “direct”, and the second one is more interesting 🙂

In general, as always: I give information, and you choose what you like best. And you can always go one route and return another.

Attention! In the summer they make special tickets for trips to the beach. This is a combined ticket that includes ferry and bus travel to Costa. I do not remember how much it cost last summer, but it is logical to assume that it is cheaper than paying in the usual way. So if you go to the beach this way in the summer, you can save on such a "beach" ticket.

Costa da Caparica...
The town with such a pretty name is a 15-minute drive from Lisbon, 15 km from the airport of the capital of Portugal.
Costa da Caparica is part of the Setubal district, the municipality of Almada and the Greater Lisbon metropolitan area.
A former fishing village with a small number of low houses and narrow streets, it got a boost after the opening of the Tagus Bridge in 1966 and is now one of the liveliest places around Lisbon.

Today, Costa da Caparica is a favorite vacation spot for residents of the capital. Yes, and foreign tourists, having once visited this former fishing village, return here: someone to lie on the snow-white sand, someone found a secluded place for himself on its endless beaches, someone remembers how the sun disappears into the depths of the sea when sunset, someone liked the nearby best golf center in the vicinity of Lisbon, and someone returns to Costa da Caparica for gastronomic discoveries.

Indeed, in the Costa da Caparica market, even today you can see women offering the freshest, freshly caught fish and all sorts of outlandish marine animals, such as piersabush, sapateiros, polvov, paws and mussels, and in the restaurants of the city you can try dishes from this fish and other seafood.

Costa da Caparica is primarily famous for its beautiful beaches, where white sand and nearby pine and eucalyptus trees create an incomparable atmosphere and good mood.

In addition to good mood, here you can feel the spirit of centuries in a protected natural area Arribo Area (Aribu Area) with an area of more than a thousand hectares, where you can see many ancient fossils, rocks and rocks that are up to 15 million years old.

Many beaches of Costa da Caparica are equipped with sports fields and rental equipment for surfing.

The entire coastline, which is more than 20 km of sandy beaches, is built up with hotels, restaurants and bars, but the farther from the city, the more likely it is to find yourself in a deserted area, which is very much appreciated by many tourists.

In summer, a tram train runs along the beach, a ticket for which there / back costs around 5 euros. In total, there are 21 stations along the train route, but I think it would not be superfluous to know that the 19th and 20th stops are located next to the nudist and most famous gay beaches in Portugal.

The best beaches of Costa da Caparica are beaches located among the dunes with good bars Morena (Morena) and Sereia (Seraya).

In addition to the beaches, Costa da Caparica attracts tourists with the proximity of Lisbon. Thanks to this proximity, you can make your stay in Portugal more intense: dilute your beach holiday with a visit to the capital's museums and cities in the vicinity of Lisbon.
Lisbon can be reached from Costa da Caparica by bus or ferry.

What to see and where to visit in Costa da Caparica itself and in the towns located nearby, in addition to the city park, which starts from the beach itself and occupies 14 hectares of plantings, with picnic parks equipped with sports and playgrounds.

The first thing that comes to mind is a statue of Christ Savior (Cricto Rei) c with arms open for a hug towards Lisbon, located on the banks of the Tagus River, at the April 25 Bridge, at an altitude of 113 meters above sea level.

The idea to erect a monument arose as early as 1934, but the Second World War prevented the implementation of the plan, on the one hand, and on the other, provoked the promise of the bishop that the monument would be erected if Portugal avoided military suffering and destruction.

War is over. Portugal is one of the few countries in Europe that did not participate in hostilities and nothing was destroyed on its territory.
The women of the country, in gratitude for the fact that their husbands and sons were not drafted into the army and remained alive, began to collect money for the monument to the Savior.

In June 1945, immediately after the end of the war, the place where this monument would be located was chosen and the idea of the Patriarch of Portugal received more and more all-round support.
In January 1946, the municipality of Lisbon promised to provide financial support for the implementation of the idea, and already in November 1948, a presentation of the model of the monument took place, authored by the architect Antonio Linu ( Antonio Lino).
On December 18, 1949, the first stone was laid, and on May 17, 1959, the inauguration of the statue of Christ, sculptor Francisco Franco ( Francis Franco).

Of the historical monuments, it is worth visiting the Capuchin Monastery ( Convento dos Capuchos ), built in 1558.

The monastery is located near Costa da Caparica in the village Outeiro do Funchal (Outeiro do Funchal).

November 1, 1755 during the well-known earthquake, the monastery was almost completely destroyed.
Its restoration began only in the 20th century. And October 18, 1952, almost 200 years after the destruction, the Capuchin Monastery was reopened.

You can get to Costa da Caparica from Lisbon by bus N153 from Praça da Espanha or by bus N161 from Praça Areeiro, the journey takes about 50 minutes. Schedule Thank you for visiting.
Be healthy and happy you and your loved ones.
Light, warmth and sun to your hearts, homes and souls.
