JSC "Russian Railways" (RZD) is a state-owned company, a monopoly in the field of railways. It has many different divisions, passenger transportation in long-distance trains is carried out by DOSS and JSC FPC. In addition, there are suburban companies (“PPK”), organizations in the regions (for example, “Railways of Yakutia”), “Aeroexpress” (comfortable electric train from the airport to the railway station) and others.

In the mid-90s, rail transportation in Russia became unprofitable, the Ministry of Railways was mired in bureaucracy. This led to reforms, and in 2003 Russian Railways was created. The state owns 100% of the company's shares. Russian Railways has about 520 passenger trains on 120 routes, which carry passengers to 21 countries of the world. So it's really tight.

JSC FPC

JSC Federal Passenger Company (JSC FPC) is a subsidiary of Russian Railways, it owns the majority of passenger traffic on long-distance trains. All new passenger cars meet high comfort requirements, but many old cars still run from the times of the USSR. Let's consider several types of trains owned by JSC FPC.

Unbranded trains

They are distinguished by a lower level of service and "Soviet" cars. The shelves are upholstered in burgundy faux leather. Toilets are closed at stations. Very few outlets. Often there is no air conditioning. Once they could run as part of branded trains, but now, due to long operation, something may not work in them or be dirty. There are no additional services. The main advantage of such trains is the cheapness of tickets.

branded trains

These are trains with new carriages and a wide range of services. They go faster than other trains, they are assigned a convenient time of departure and arrival. Tickets on a branded train are always more expensive than on a non-branded one. Features of such compositions:

  • new cars - there is air conditioning, two dry closets, electronic displays explaining, a microwave and a refrigerator at the conductor;
  • in each compartment (in a suite and a compartment car) there is a soft back at the bottom shelf, an electronic lock on the door, a call button for the conductor, a socket, an individual night lamp;
  • there are free services: food, press, travel kit, etc.

The first branded train in the USSR appeared in 1931. It was called the "Red Arrow" and ran from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Today there are already 92 branded trains.

"Premium" trains

"Premium" are positioned as luxury trains. They differ from other branded trains in higher speed (which means less time on the road) and the presence of additional services (for example, there is a TV in the compartment car).

Premium lineups appeared in 2009. They followed several directions, but later some of the trains were canceled due to low traffic or renamed. Now Premium trains run from Moscow in three directions: Adler, Kazan, Novorossiysk.

double decker trains

These are trains with double-decker compartment and luxury (SV) cars. The restaurant car is also two-story: there is a bar on the first floor, and a dining room on the second.

A double-decker train can carry twice as many passengers, so the ticket price is usually lower than a similar single-decker one. They provide the comfort of a compartment car at the price of a reserved seat. But such cars are also more cramped: you can’t sit on the top shelf, there is less space for luggage. It is planned to replace all second-class carriages with double-decker carriages in 10 years.

Russia's first double-decker train began running on the Moscow-Sochi route in 2013. In 2016, there were already several such trains, they follow to St. Petersburg, Samara, Voronezh, Kazan. More about double-decker trains

"DOSS"

The Directorate of High-Speed Communications (“DOSS”) deals with new generation high-speed trains. The first was, which in 2009 connected Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. It accelerates to 250 km / h and travels the distance between the two capitals in 4 hours, which takes more than 8 hours for an ordinary train. And already in 2010, the second electric train was launched - plying from the northern capital to Helsinki (Finland). In 2015, on the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod route, the Sapsan changed the high-speed train, reducing travel time by 20 minutes. Tickets for many high-speed trains are more expensive than others on the same route.

The seated train speeds up to 160 km/h. It is used as a high-speed train on flights lasting up to 5.5 hours. "Lastochka" runs on many routes in the European part of Russia. Depending on the flight, part of the trains belongs to the carrier DOSS, and part belongs to JSC FPC. Tickets for Lastochka are inexpensive, cheaper than all other trains on these routes.

Most high-speed trains run only with comfortable seated cars. Each train has its own set of additional services: wi-fi, leather seats with a footrest, seats that can be rotated in the direction of travel, a dining car, and so on.

For many, the difference between branded and regular trains is only the price. But this is only a consequence, and the reason lies in the real differences.

Definition

Ordinary train(aka passenger) - a train made up of passenger cars for the purpose of transporting people and their luggage. Like any train, it has one or more locomotives and is also equipped with signals (audible and visible) to indicate "head" and "tail".

Signature train(aka branded passenger) - this is the same train, but belonging to the category of comfortable. This category appeared back in the USSR and exists to this day in a number of post-Soviet countries. A prerequisite for maintaining "brand name" is the periodic recertification in the Federal Passenger Company - "Federal Passenger Company".

Comparison

Given that the often difficult conditions of travel in a regular train are known to everyone, the features of a branded train will be listed below.

So, according to the official information of Russian Railways, trains can claim to be "branded":

  • consisting of modern wagons equipped with air conditioners and in operation for no more than 12 years;
  • with a convenient traffic schedule and the shortest travel time;
  • incorporating a car with a double special compartment for passengers with disabilities;
  • with qualified guides trained according to a special program;
  • with improved quality of bed linen, bedding and sanitary and hygienic items;
  • with preliminary covering of the upper berths.

A distinctive feature of such trains is also the presence of their own, often characterizing the direction of the name: "Lotos" (Astrakhan - Moscow), "Baikal" (Irkutsk - St. Petersburg), "White Nights" (St. Petersburg - Vologda), etc. .

Company train. coupe

As for the cost of tickets, it is really 20-50% higher than the cost of traveling on a regular long-distance train. However, this is quite expected, given that in addition to the differences indicated above, there is a list of services included in the ticket price. We will not dwell on the number of hot food dishes, drinks and printed publications, but the composition of the hygiene kit is worthy of attention:

  • Economy class: napkins (paper and wet), comb, dental kit (brush, paste, toothpick);
  • Business class: the same as in the economy class set, plus soap, handkerchiefs, cosmetic bag, horn and shoe napkin;
  • Deluxe Class: Same as the Business Class set, plus shampoo, body sponge, shower gel, hand cream, terry bathrobe and slippers.

Naturally, all of the above are only part of the mandatory requirements. For example, few passengers know that, according to clause 5.4.9 of OST 32-24-93 "Standardization in servicing the population on railway transport", radio communications should not only work, but also transmit:

  • greeting words and words of farewell at the appropriate moments of the train movement;
  • information about the rules of travel and the services provided;
  • announcements about the time of departure, arrival, as well as the duration of parking;
  • informative programs about the cities through which the train passes, etc.

It is also possible that the news for passengers will be the mandatory maintenance of the temperature regime (in winter - 18-22 ° C, in summer - 22-26 ° C) without excuses from the conductors "let's go - it will heat up" or "we'll go - it will blow out".

Findings site

  1. The cost of a ticket for a branded train is 20-50% more expensive.
  2. The quality of the service provided by the branded train is higher, and the number of services provided, included in the ticket price, is greater.

This is the longest passenger route of Russian Railways. In 6 days and 2 hours, "Russia" travels 9,260 km, crossing the entire country. The first trains passed this way in 16 days.

For 47 years, the train traveled about 250 million kilometers - this is almost one and a half times the distance to the Sun.

The train makes stops at 63 stations. The longest is in Irkutsk - 35 minutes. And 506 km from Irkutsk, in the region of Nizhneudinsk, "Rossiya" passes exactly half of the route.

The train departs from Vladivostok at 15:30 and arrives at Yaroslavsky Station in Moscow at 17:43.

The Rossiya train runs every other day, on odd numbers from Moscow, on even numbers from Vladivostok.

You can get acquainted with the schedule of the Rossiya train at Tutu.ru.

The numbering of cars in Moscow starts from the head of the train, in Vladivostok - from the tail of the train.

Train Composition

The color of the cars of the Rossiya train changed many times: cherry, red, raspberry and green. In 1992, he acquired his modern color: the Russian tricolor with the country's coat of arms.

The train consists of reserved seat and compartment cars, sleeping cars (SV), a restaurant and a staff car.

The carriages have refrigerators, microwave ovens, showers, electric stoves, hair dryers, irons and other necessary things during the trip.

In the staff car there are compartments for passengers with disabilities. They are equipped with special handrails and belts, with which you can change on your own. Coupes are designed for two. Sockets and switches are low.

All carriages are under round-the-clock video surveillance.

For children there is a compartment with toys and children's books.

pay attention to seasonal coefficients. With their help, you can save up to 50% of the cost of tickets.

Those who travel a lot do not need to explain what is the difference between a branded train and an ordinary one. The branded one has a lot of services that are designed for the comfort of the client, therefore, although the cost of tickets may be higher on average by 25-50% from a regular passenger ticket, but it's worth it, believe me. This will be especially appreciated by those who travel long distances, because the usual travel time is slow, and the quality of comfort leaves much to be desired. That is why, to enjoy the trip. Instead of surviving on the way, it is worth buying tickets for the branded train.

What other benefits does a branded train offer?

  • The carriages must be no more than 12 years old and air-conditioned to maintain a pleasant temperature. In winter it is 18-22 degrees, and in summer 22-26. In an ordinary train, you don’t need to remember about air conditioners, and the temperature there is regulated by opening the windows, which are then very difficult to close, for this reason it is quite difficult to travel by train in winter. If the window is closed well, then it can be stuffy there, if it is bad, it can be cold. For those who travel with children or are afraid of drafts, it is better to choose a branded train, it is much more pleasant there.
  • The branded train has a convenient schedule, spends less time on the road, because this transport is considered fast. This is especially pleasant for those who do not like to stand in the middle of the field for a long time, letting other trains pass.
  • In this composition there is a compartment for people with disabilities. It is double, so traveling in it is more convenient.
  • Qualified conductors, a certified train, are also pluses. In such trains, you rarely see rudeness and careless attitude towards passengers, the staff is well-trained.
  • Almost everyone notes the best quality of linen and the availability of sanitary hygiene items. Moreover, their number depends on the class of the ticket. The upper shelves in such trains are usually covered, which creates a pleasant impression of cleanliness and order.
  • Trains follow certain directions and always at a certain time. This is very convenient for planning trips.
  • For those who like to learn something new in such a train, during the daytime they can include a historical reference about the cities that the train passes by. In addition, the information may include words of greeting, departure time, duration of stops and driving rules.
  • In addition, the restaurant offers an expanded range of dishes.
  • The guides will offer tea, coffee, confectionery and printed publications. Moreover, the dishes will delight with beauty, and the range of goods will not be limited to one cookie.
  • One of the important points will be the presence of a bio-toilet, which will surely appeal to those who travel with children or have high requirements for cleanliness on the train.

These and other advantages greatly increase the competitiveness of a branded train among others. You have to pay for comfort, so the ticket costs a little more, but if a person can afford this trip. So why not.

For those who can afford

Branded trains may include carriages with luxury compartments. This coupe is redeemed as a whole, so there will be no random fellow travelers. This compartment is one and a half times larger than the standard one, and it also has an individual bathroom with a washbasin and a toilet. Some compartments have a TV, a DVD player, a safe can be provided, and there is also a button to call the conductor. For example, there is such a compartment on the Moscow-Berlin-Paris or Moscow-Nice train.

So, we conclude who needs a branded train

Usually it is needed for those who are accustomed to comfort, traveling long distances or with children. It is also convenient to go to the seaside or just on vacation, once a year you can afford it. Business trains are often used by business travelers, they save time, since the train goes quickly, especially since they pay for the ticket, so this does not greatly affect the budget.

For those who have various chronic diseases, it is also better to use comfortable travel, less smell of smoke from the vestibule. If you choose a branded train, it is better to take a compartment. It will cost not much more, but more comfort. The reserved seat in the branded one differs from the usual one only in white sheets and curtains on the windows, you simply won’t have time to feel the rest of the pleasant bonuses.

Why is it better to take a coupe

In general, it is best to take a reserved seat ticket if you ride the train all night, then all the disadvantages of this movement will be invisible. And for good memorable trips, coupe trips are very important. It is in comfort that not only the joy of the trip appears, but also the opportunity to relax, not to get annoyed over trifles. A compartment ticket can also be taken on a regular train, then the trip will not be so burdensome. Of course, maybe the train will not have branded curtains and snow-white sheets, and the toilet will not be organic, but ordinary, but in any case, the road will not seem painful.

For the family - the best

As a bonus, you can afford a ticket to the NE, there is the same compartment, only for two seats and folding shelves for sofas. The service there is like in a branded train, so you will like it anyway. In general, comfort in a carriage largely depends on its service life, conductors and attendants, because there were decent carriages in ordinary trains. If it weren’t for the huge difference in ticket prices, many people wouldn’t give up comfort, especially when traveling long distances with their families, so people who like to travel and save money at the same time can be advised to buy tickets in advance and take advantage of discounts.
