Winter resorts of Altai. Altai ski resorts. What they don't write about in guidebooks. Check ticket prices for your selected dates

Altai is rightly called the pride and pearl of Siberia. Of course, foreign resorts attract with their charms, but the vastness of the country also has its own ski resorts in Siberia and Altai. We propose to make a brief overview of the most famous of them.

Altai resorts

Siberia is one of the most interesting and unique places on the planet. Here nature managed to preserve its pristine nature and beauty. Vast areas have a fairly low population density. The Altai Mountains have now become a center of pilgrimage for tourists. Altai ski resorts are of interest to winter sports lovers. In general, it is difficult to find another such unique place in which so many resorts are concentrated. Very often Altai ski resorts are compared to the Swiss Alps.

Ski season

The season at Altai ski resorts usually begins in November and lasts until April. But in some places this period may be longer or shorter. For example, in the Altai ski resort Sheregesh the snow slopes are good until mid-May. In general, all the routes in the region are located in incredibly picturesque places. This region can easily be called a land of contrasts. Various natural complexes and landscapes are very organically combined here. In these parts you can see snowy mountain peaks, coniferous taiga, raging rivers, alpine meadows, rocky steppes, clear streams and quaint caves. The sharply continental climate brings fickle and capricious weather that changes very suddenly.

Surprisingly, it is true that Altai is the warmest part of Western Siberia. The highest point is located here - Mount Belukha (4506 m). In recent years, Altai ski resorts have been visited by guests from many countries around the world. According to skiers, this part of Russia is the most interesting. To be fair, it is worth noting that it is not only the mountains that attract tourists here. Those who love history can see numerous historical monuments here. And for those who want to improve their health in Altai, there are healing radon-silicate springs, healing mud and salt lakes. Hunters will certainly appreciate the abundance of wildlife in the forests.

Ski resorts of the region

The list of ski resorts in Altai is quite impressive: Turquoise Katun, Seminsky Pass, Veselaya Mountain, Manzherok, Belokurikha, Sheregesh, Gorynya, Davegor. We have listed only the most famous places. We want to talk about some of them in more detail.

Belokurikha

The Altai ski resort Belokurikha is the most popular and largest place in the region. It is quite actively promoted and financed by the state. The resort is famous not only for its slopes, but also for its wellness and excursion programs. Currently, Belokurikha-2 has even appeared.

Fans of ski slopes associate the resort with the Blagodat ski resort. Here you will find six trails with different difficulty levels and different lengths. The nature of the region is stunningly beautiful and provides extraordinary landscapes. The climate of the resort has its own characteristics, due to which higher temperatures are observed here than throughout Siberia. The region enjoys a large number of sunny and clear days a year. You can relax in Belokurikha at any time of the year. The resort is also famous for its therapeutic radon baths. There are many hospitals in the region that specialize in the treatment of various ailments.

The Altai mountain ski resort Belokurikha has a developed infrastructure. A large number of restaurants, bars, clubs, sports equipment rentals and other places make it possible not to get bored and have an active time.

For those who like a more relaxing pastime, we can recommend walking along the path or riding a chairlift. For fans of active recreation, the resort offers paragliding, downhill skiing, rafting, horseback riding, hiking, ATV riding and much more. Belokurikha is located near major transport routes, so getting here is not difficult.

Reviews from tourists about Belokurikha

In addition to Belokurikha itself, the Danilovka complex is located in close proximity, which may also be of interest to tourists. It has its own slopes and lifts. The complex is suitable for beginners. If this is not your first time skiing, then “Danilovka” may seem a bit boring.

According to vacationers, Belokurikha is a beautiful and expensive resort. In good boarding houses, places are booked at the very beginning of summer. If you decide to stay in an apartment, do not expect good quality. Concepts such as cost and quality are at different poles here.

Experienced holidaymakers recommend staying in Biysk. If you come by car, then getting to Belokurikha will not be difficult for you, since the distance is only 65 km. In Biysk there are all kinds of hotels where you can stay.

Belokurikha is not exactly a youth place. To be more precise, this is a family resort. In general, this does not impose any obligations, there is simply no active movement here.

Manzherok

The Manzherok ski resort in Altai is located forty kilometers from Gorno-Altaisk (Altai Republic). Many people believe that the resort is located in the village of the same name, but this is not so. It is located in the village of Ozernoye, a few kilometers from the Chuysky tract.

This complex is quite modest. There is only one track and one lift. An interesting fact is that the lift goes from the foot of the mountain to the very top, but the rolled slope begins earlier than the middle, so skiers and snowboarders leave earlier, before reaching the final station.

The ski resort Manzherok (Altai Mountains) represents a single economy. The complex provides comprehensive services. If you want to save a little, you can stay in the nearest points - Barangol, Ust-Muny.

Reviews from tourists about holidays in the Manzherok resort

According to holidaymakers, Manzherok is a family resort. However, things are not always good with snow here. In different years, its quantity may be different. As they say, year to year is completely different. Although the resort is open throughout the year. On its territory there is the longest chairlift in Siberia. Tourists recommend not only visiting the track, but also relaxing in the sauna complex, having fun in the Funpark, riding a snowmobile, and visiting the motorized dog attraction.

In summer, other entertainment is available, including ATV riding, horseback riding, trampolines, and the beach. And at the final station of the cable car, guests can see the Museum of Altai Culture or visit the Legends of Altai ethnopark.

Sheregesh

Sheregesh is a ski resort located at the foot of the Green Mountain. It is four kilometers away from the village of the same name. The resort has a well-developed infrastructure. It is gradually becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination, especially among residents of Siberia. In Sheregesh you can find accommodation to suit every taste. In 2014, the resort was officially recognized as one of the most popular in the country.

Despite the fact that the resort is quite remote, lovers of snow slopes come from all over the country. Among professionals, Sheregesh is literally a freeride mecca, since you can ride off-piste here practically from the ski lift. The resort is open all year round.

There are not many ski resorts located on the slopes of the Altai Mountains. Sheregesh especially stands out among its neighbors. The complex, which was built on the slopes of Mount Zelenaya, is the largest in the Kemerovo region.

The resort is located within the boundaries of the massif called Gornaya Shoria. The complex is equipped according to international standards. The unique weather conditions add to the popularity of Shergesh. The ski season here lasts from November to May (one of the longest seasons in the entire country, not counting the Arctic Circle), and the snow of Sheregesh - dry and lush - does not stick together, which makes the resort a paradise for freeriders.

Resort Description

Over the past 15 years, Sheregesh has achieved a lot. The level of equipment here is the best in all of Siberia, but there are not many trails. All equipped slopes are located within Mount Zelenaya and occupy an altitude level of 600-1270 meters.

Officially, the Sheregesh ski resort also includes the slopes of three more neighboring mountains, which are called Mustag, Kurgan and Utuya. Mount Green is the lowest of these four, and the highest is Mustag (1570 meters). The slopes of three undeveloped mountains can be used for freeride.

The variety of natural conditions makes Sheregesh interesting for visitors of any level of training, and the presence of the FIS standard allows various competitions to be held here (including stages of the Russian ski championships).

By 2016, the resort management plans to increase the number of slopes to 31, lifts to 15, equip slopes on all four peaks, build hotels and entertainment centers. In the meantime, Sheregesh already boasts the largest snow park in Russia.

Ski season

Specific weather conditions are partly determined by the geographical location of Gornaya Shoria. This region is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges, and only one has access to the plain. Thus, Snow cover here can last from mid-November to early May.

Skiing season temperatures are within -10 – -15 degrees.

Average snow thickness is 1-1.5 meters, sometimes this value reaches 4 meters. The snow itself is also interesting - it is called “dry” and “cold” (it hardly sticks and maintains its shape well).

Sports infrastructure

The Sheregesh ski complex is represented by equipped slopes, lifts and “wild” slopes. In addition, there is a snow park with tracks and equipment for fans of tricks, a climbing wall with an accurate imitation of the surface of the mountain, and ski schools for children and adults. For freeriders, there is the possibility of delivery to the slope using a snowmobile or snowcat.

Ski passes

A feature of modern Sheregesh is the lack of a single ski pass for all lifts.

The resort has several operators who maintain their lifts. Lift passes are only valid on lifts of the same operator.

The situation is complicated by the fact that sometimes it is impossible to get to the desired route on the lift of one operator. Below are prices in rubles for one-time lifts and passes, sorted by lift operator.

To save money, decide in advance which slopes you are going to ski on and buy passes from the relevant operators for the required period.

Lifts

The total number of lifts on Sheregesh is 17. Of these, there are 5 chairlifts, 9 drag lifts, 2 gondola lifts and 1 combined Panorama lift (gondola + chairlift).

At the resort, the lifts operate on the principle of 1 track - 1 operator - 1 lift. Almost every road is dedicated to a separate descent. But in total there are at least two lifts per route, since different operators serve different roads.

Thus, the “Khlebnitsa” and “Bulochka” lifts operate on the “Dollar” route (height - 1300 meters - the slope of Mount Mustag). At the same time, “Bun” delivers visitors only to the middle of the descent.

The “Lob” and “Elena” trails, which start on Mount Zelenaya (1270 meters), are served by 6 rope tows (4 of which are included in the 1st stage, that is, they do not reach the very top).

Two more routes descending from the top of Zelenaya are “Panorama” and “Sky Way”. They operate 4 lifts (gondola, 2 rope tows and a chair gondola). The Sector E route (also 1270 meters - Green Mountain) has its own gondola road.

Trails

In total, Sheregesh has 15 trails, the total length of which is 23 kilometers. All tracks are divided into 4 types according to their difficulty (“green”, “blue”, “red” and “black”). But most trails combine several levels of difficulty. So, the resort has:

  • 1 “black” track (1900 meters)
  • 1 “blue” (700 meters)
  • 1 “black-red” track (2500 meters)
  • 1 “blue” + “red” (1600 meters)
  • 1 route “blue-green-red” (3900 meters)
  • 4 descents of the “green” + “blue” type (7700 meters)
  • 6 slopes for all skiers (13700 meters)

Click to view the route map in more detail

From the top of the mountain there are two descents, which converge into one in the middle. The upper parts of the slopes are intended for experienced skiers; there are “red” and “black” sections. From the junction to the foot the trails are flatter, which will please beginners.

Also of interest is the 2-kilometer slalom course with different inclination angles.

Two 2.5-kilometer tracks with an incline of up to 45 degrees are suitable for downhill skiers.

All slopes are processed using snowcats, some have snow cannons.

Video of the descent from the mountain in Sheregesh:

Off-piste descents for freeriding

Mount Zelenaya and its neighboring peaks are perfect for those who like to descend unequipped slopes. The central peak of Sheregesh can offer freeriders descent from the eastern and western sides. The forest in the east is sparser, and the slope itself is gentle. The western forest is dense, there are almost no clearings here.

Freeriders can get to the slopes of the Mustag and Kurgan mountains (the most interesting slopes in terms of descent are located there) on snowmobiles. In addition, everyone is transported to two more points by snowcats.

At the end of November - beginning of December, a freeride school is held annually in Sheregesh, where experienced instructors teach everyone the freeride technique.

Instructors and schools

During the ski season, schools are held in Sheregesh, where through theoretical and practical classes you can learn the skills of skiing or snowboarding.

Ski schools for adults are held in early and mid-December, New Year's Eve, mid-February and late March.

Specific dates vary depending on the season. Prices also vary from year to year, but on average the cost is 10,000-12,000 rubles for 5-7 days of school (the school’s maximum price is during the New Year). Freeride school is a little cheaper - from 9,000 rubles.

In addition, private instructors work at the resort throughout the season. You can find them directly at the foot of the mountain, near the ski lifts and at the top of Zelenaya. The main rule is to always check the instructor’s certificate, which confirms the specialist’s level of qualification. The prices for instructors are the same - 1000 rubles per hour per person. When training 2 or more people, discounts are provided; working with children will cost a little more.

The resort has a children's ski school "Tevalyashka" especially for children. It offers training programs separately for children aged 3-7 years (“ski nursery”) and separately for children from 7 years old. The youngest school visitors can learn to ski on a fenced-off training slope. Groups of older children can also practice there and learn the skills of skiing and snowboarding.

The lower price limit is set at around 900 rubles/day per room. Such rooms, for example, are available at the Sporthotel-2 hotel. And the most expensive at the moment is a cottage in the Chalet Alpen Club complex - 14,000 rubles per house per day. Some options:
