How to make a lightweight fishing box. A DIY fishing tackle box is the best option. The most convenient box for a fisherman

Having a convenient means of transporting gear is a fundamental point in winter fishing. A fishing box should be at the same time spacious, but also not burden the angler’s shoulders while moving around the pond and on the way to fishing. In addition to fishing gear, you need to put the caught catch, a thermos of tea and other accessories in the box. Nowadays, you can make a completely decent box for winter fishing from various materials with your own hands at home, and in terms of functionality it will not be inferior to purchased options.

Suitable material

The most popular materials for making a homemade box are foam, plywood, aluminum, and wood. The choice of one material or another will affect the most important parameter of the box – weight. To get the lightest option, you should pay attention to polystyrene foam. It is extremely easy to work with; it can be cut with a simple stationery knife. A structure made from aluminum sheets will be a little heavier, but the process of making such a box for winter fishing will be much more complicated.

Design of a box for winter fishing

The design of the manufactured product must be as durable and light as possible, have several compartments for easy storage of gear, catch and all small things. The top lid covering the box should be covered with material that will not be cold and comfortable to sit on. In modern factory-made models, the top cover is usually lined with foamed polymer materials that do not absorb moisture.

Required Tools

To make a good fishing box with your own hands, we need some tools. For example, to assemble a structure made of foam plastic we will need: a knife, glue (liquid nails), self-tapping screws, a screwdriver or a screwdriver. When working with wood materials, you will need a hacksaw or jigsaw.

Foam Fishing Box

A box assembled with your own hands from polystyrene foam is the lightest and simplest option. To make it, we need to find suitable sheets of durable foam (at least a couple of centimeters thick). From them we need to cut out pieces from which we will make the walls, bottom, partitions and lid of the box. The resulting parts need to be fastened together using liquid nails, and to increase the strength of the structure, a pair of self-tapping screws can be screwed in.

To give the workpiece an attractive look, you can sheathe the outside with some leatherette or other material of your choice. You will also need to attach a strap to the side walls to make it comfortable to wear on your shoulder. The resulting result will please you with its ease and convenience of design.

Making a box from plywood

When making a box for winter gear from plywood or wood, the drawing of the previous version made from foam plastic is suitable. Only working with wood will be a little more difficult, and the weight of the finished product will be an order of magnitude heavier. But a wooden box has its advantages - a more durable structure. After all, in winter you will have to sit on it when fishing!

The ingenuity of our fishermen knows no bounds and on the Internet you can find boxes made of a wide variety of materials. Here are just some of the most popular types:

  • From foam plastic
  • Made of aluminum
  • From the freezer
  • From plywood
  • Made of plastic
  • From a plastic canister

It is easy to distinguish an equipped winter fishing enthusiast from other people by his special box-seat, which in modern times many call a trunk. After all, an “ice fisherman” without fishing box like a tourist without a backpack, like a mushroom picker without a box, like a hunter without a game bag. That’s why each of them strives to acquire such equipment.

Of course, there is such a specialized one on sale. winter fishing boxes, and in a large assortment. But not everyone can afford to carve out money for a fishing box from the family budget, in general, for their own pleasure, and not for immediate needs. In addition, fishing enthusiasts, like professional fishermen, are mostly superstitious people. They believe that only in a homemade fishing box, to which they put the warmth of their hands, can luck “live”, well, if not all of it, then, in any case, a particle of it.

Meanwhile, even a novice teenage fisherman can make such a necessary but simple fishing box with his own hands.

Ice fishing box:

1—front (front or rear) wall (duralumin, si sheet, 2 pcs.); 2—dog (non-rusting steel, sheet s2); 3 — seat cover (leatherette); 4 — side wall (duralumin, si sheet, 2 pcs.); 5—partition (duralumin sheet si); 6—earring ear (steel wire 03.2 pcs.); 7—ear clamp (duralumin sheet s 1.2 pcs.); 8—belt (flat nylon halyard); 9—carabiner (from the bag); 10—aluminum rivet 02.5 (as needed); 11—hinge (piano hinge); 12—bottom (duralumin sheet si); 13 — skid (polyethylene, slO sheet, 2 pcs.); 14—boss (steel rivet 08); 15 — washer (steel, 2 pcs.); 16—base of the seat-cover (plywood, slO sheet); 17 — soft padding (foam rubber, sheet s 10); 18—coating fasteners (steel bracket made of 00.5 wire, as needed); 19—tongue (steel angle 10x5x3)

Main material fishing box— duralumin sheet 1 mm thick. The entire body is made from it - walls and bottom. In my version, the bottom and side walls are made as one piece (but you can cut them out separately, you just need to leave allowances for subsequent joining). The markings are made according to the drawing, and the parts are cut out using hand-held metal scissors. You can bend the workpieces and allowances in a vice with your own hands, placing steel angles on their jaws with a length corresponding to the bend line. The next and most difficult operation for making a box (at least for novice DIYers) is connecting its parts with rivets.

Then, duralumin runners are attached to the bottom of the box along the edges with rivets (with countersunk heads on the outside), and ears (locally called slings) for the belt are attached to the side walls. The ears consist of an earring and a clamp. The earring is made of steel wire with a diameter of 3 mm, and the clamp is made of the same duralumin sheet as the walls.

Inside the box, at the discretion of the manufacturer, a partition, also cut from a 1-mm duralumin sheet, is installed and riveted to the front (front and back) walls and bottom (this part largely ensures the rigidity of the product). After this, it is advisable to blunt all sharp edges and edges of the parts.

The box lid (also known as the seat) is first made separately. Its base is a plywood sheet 10 mm thick. A boss made of steel rivets with a diameter of 3 mm with washers is attached to the base and a polyethylene foam gasket is glued, which is covered with a leatherette cover. The edges of the cover are pulled over the edges (ends) of the base and attached to it with wire brackets.

Next, one of the strips of the piano hinge is screwed to the long edge of the lid, on the side opposite to the boss. The other strip is riveted to the upper edge of one of the front walls from the inside of the box. A latch is hinged (free for rotation) to the edge of the opposite front wall in the middle.
The dog is cut out of a stainless steel sheet 2 mm thick according to the drawing and bent in a vice along the fold lines. It hooks onto a corner attached to the front wall.

The fishing box strap is made of a flat nylon halyard. One end of it is inserted into the eyelet and fastened to the belt tape with a rivet. A carabiner is hung on the other end in the same way. It is advisable that the carabiner have a swivel - then you won’t have to straighten the belt every time.
Finally, you can paint the box - just don’t choose the color too bright - so as not to scare away the fish.

Of course, other design options are also possible. winter fishing box, as well as the materials used for its manufacture - much depends on the taste and capabilities of the homemaker. But an indispensable condition must still be met: ensuring a small mass and sufficient rigidity of the box (sufficiency in this case directly depends on the weight of the fisherman himself).

I will give another version of the fishing box - with beveled front walls and one shortened side wall. And if the first option is the simplest and most common, then the second, in my opinion, is the most durable, and can be recommended to heavy fishermen. Its seat is rigidly attached to three walls (both front and one side), and the lid is separate and covers the beveled part of the box.

Reinforced ice fishing box:

I — front (front and rear) wall (duralumin sheet si, 2 pcs.); 2—dog handle (furniture); 3 — covering (leatherette); 4—carabiner (from the bag); 5 — cover (duralumin sheet si); 6—belt (flat nylon halyard); 7 — low side wall (duralumin sheet si); 8—high side wall (duralumin sheet si); 9—earring ear (steel wire 03.5, 2 pcs.); 10—ear clamp (duralumin sheet si, 2 pcs.);
II—hinge (piano hinge); 12 — skid (polyethylene, slO sheet, 2 pcs.); 13—partition (duralumin sheet si); 14—seat base (duralumin sheet si); 15 — soft lining (foam rubber, slO sheet); 16—nylon fastening button (as needed)

Do-it-yourself manufacturing technology of the second option winter fishing box practically no different from the one described above. Only here you need to rivet the corners, bent from a strip of the same 1-mm aluminum sheet, to the edges of the seat base from below, and the other shelves of the corners - to the front walls of the box. As an option, you can also make the base from a 1-mm duralumin sheet, and attach the lining and coating to the base with nylon buttons through pre-drilled corresponding holes.

No winter fishing is complete without such equipment as a fishing box. All winter gear is stored in it, and often the catch too, although there is little point in storing the catch in it unless you want to get it very dirty. After all, the catch can be put in a bag. The price tag for such a box in fishing stores can sometimes be steep. Therefore, we will look at one good option for a homemade fishing box. The weight of the box presented in this article does not exceed 3 kg, and it looks quite nice.

To make your own fishing box you will need:

Freezer from an old refrigerator
A piece of tin or a second chamber for the bottom.
A small piece of plywood, foam rubber (for the seat)
Fabric for covering the box
A couple of small fasteners for PVC pipes, and one large one.
A couple of small awnings
Construction insulation

Making a fishing box

In order to better view the picture, click on it for its interest.

Cut out a cover from a sheet of plywood. We cut it so that it protrudes 2-4 mm on all sides.

We make the bottom from a piece of tin, or the same chamber, and screw it on with bolts (if you have a riveter, it’s better to rivet it). Using the hinges, we also screw the lid.

We cover the inside of the box with construction insulation. Of course, you can do without it, but you’ll agree with it nicer. And glue the foam rubber to the lid.

We sew a cover and fit our almost finished box. Don't forget to put foam on the lid.

We screw a couple of holders for PVC pipes to one of the walls; they hold fishing rods very well.

We screw the thermos holder into the corner. A PVC sewer pipe holder is perfect for this. But you can imagine any other ring.

COLLAPSE

The modern market offers a wide variety of fishing boxes. However, such pleasure will not be cheap, especially considering that the cost of the box increases with the presence of additional compartments. Most fishermen go only a few times a season for winter fishing, so buying a fishing box often becomes irrational.

That is why many craftsmen make homemade fishing boxes, which are not inferior in quality and functionality to “purchased” ones.

What does the ideal fishing box look like?

  • The box should be made of aluminum and insulated with foam plastic.
  • Spacious and ergonomic - the box should have several compartments in which the fisherman can place all his gear and fish.
  • Functional fastening - it should be convenient for the fisherman to both carry the box and drag it, if the catch is, of course, big!
  • Warm seat – you always need to worry about your health.
  • The presence of runners.

Taking into account all the factors, craftsmen have proposed several of the simplest ways to make homemade boxes.

Homemade fishing box from the freezer

This method is not difficult to manufacture; even a schoolchild or a pensioner can handle it. The body of the box is a freezer from an old Soviet refrigerator. You just need to throw away the tubes through which the gas moved.

The bottom of the fishing box is a piece of wood, 3 cm thick. The wood must first be dried and cleaned. It is advisable to insert small pieces of rubber between the block and the walls of the future box (take a strip cut from a regular chamber) to prevent water from entering. The tree must be painted.

The roof of a homemade fishing box is made of thick plywood. We must not forget about the need to leave a small overlap. A special sponge is placed on the plywood (used in tractor or car seats), which is then covered with a dense material - tarpaulin. The material should be secured with a furniture stapler. The lid is connected to the body using hinges.

It is important not to forget to make compartments from wooden blocks of small thickness. It is also important to equip a homemade fishing box with a wide and durable belt, which is secured to the body with bolts. Finally, the brand new box can be painted.

Fishing boxes can be successfully used in summer. To do this, it must be equipped with foam plastic. When going on a summer fishing trip, throwing several bottles of frozen water into a box, the fisherman can be calm about the safety of his catch.

The magical transformation of a canister into a fishing box

The box is easy to manufacture and resistant to mechanical damage.

Necessary materials:

  • Large plastic canister – 1 piece;
  • Small plastic canister – 2 pcs;
  • Rubber bath mat – 1 piece;
  • Loops - 2 pcs;
  • Aluminum corner and latches;
  • Rivets, screws;
  • Tools.

First you need to cut off the top of the canister. Attach the aluminum corner to the cut edge using small bolts or rivets. The corner will give the structure rigidity and strength.

It is important to properly equip the interior space of the future fishing box. To do this, you need to make a partition out of plastic.

The top and the seat itself can be plastic at the same time. The craftsman can also use plywood. We must not forget about a small overlap. Attach the loops. Cover the bottom and top of the lid with a mat. That's it, now the cover is ready and you can safely attach it to the body.

For greater functionality of the box, you can attach pockets made from 2 small canisters to the side parts. You can also provide covers for them. Carefully cut small canisters to the required size and attach them to the body of a ready-made homemade box.

If you have a friend who is a truck driver, ask him for an oil can!

An important point is the selection of a wide and, most importantly, durable belt. The advantages of this box are ease of manufacture, minimum materials and tools used. In operation, this box showed itself only from the best side. A light and spacious homemade box will become an indispensable assistant for every fisherman.

DIY winter fishing box

Winter fishing requires a convenient and spacious box. Fishing rods, boxes with lures and baits, a thermos with a hot drink, fish, a hook and other fishing accessories are placed in it.

You can make a good fishing box with your own hands. In this article we will consider in detail the process of its manufacture. We will indicate what materials and tools will be required for such work.

Step-by-step process for making a winter box with photos

How to make a box with your own hands? We will make it from wood with dimensions of 45x39x23 cm. It will be closed with a lid-box with compartments inside. On top of the lid we will attach a seat made of a special filler, which we will cover with soft leatherette. We will make the walls of the box from seven-layer plywood. We will fill the planks on each side, and on the sides there will be timber measuring 6 cm wide for reinforcement.

The result should be a box like this.

Let's pay attention to the locks. They can be purchased in specialized stores. We will fasten the locks with strong screws, as shown in the photo.

The lid opens thanks to the following hinges:

We will fasten these hinges with screws. They will allow the lid to open completely. We will nail oak runners to the bottom of the box.

We will make the runners from timber with dimensions of 20x20 cm. We will fasten them with screws. The runners will allow you to drag the box across the ice. This is very convenient in cases where you have to travel long distances. Another plus about them is that the bottom will not come into contact with snow and ice. Oak slats are very hard and do not absorb practically moisture, hold their shape well and do not rot.

The inside of the box looks like this:

We see that there are metal grooves attached to the sides. We fasten them with thin self-tapping screws. You can insert plywood into these grooves, and thus get partitions. It is very comfortable. We will get three branches. In one you can place fish, boxes of bait and groundbait, and in the second - boxes of bait, a thermos and other accessories. The small one can accommodate fishing rods. This is the internal configuration of a hand-made box:

We will make a hole on one of the sides through which we will throw the fish.

We will use a belt like this:

You can use a belt from an old bag that has already become unusable. We will attach it to the box using this loop:

We tighten this element with three screws or self-tapping screws.

We attach 10 mm thick polyethylene foam insulation to the lid using waterproof glue. It does not allow moisture to pass through and is quite soft.

We cover the top of the insulation with dermantin:

We will make the dermantine coating in this way:

This cover can be stapled to the sides of the box using a nail gun. The result is a reliable design.

We coat the resulting fishing box with our own hands with waterproof varnish in two layers. You can use parquet varnish. We make sure that all elements and sidewalls are carefully coated.

When opened, the box looks like this:

We will make the lid in the form of a box 6 cm high. Additional compartments can be made inside it. To do this, we will also make grooves into which the plywood is inserted. We fasten the plywood on top so that we get sashes. We attach special clamps on the sides, and screw the handles on top with self-tapping screws. The result will be approximately the same design as in the bedside tables. To open the sash, you need to pull the handle. In these compartments you can store elements of fishing equipment.

As you can see, we have a completely functional and spacious box. Now we know how to make a fishing box for winter fishing with our own hands.

Conclusion about the winter fishing box

This box will serve you for more than one season. An inspection is required at the end of each season. If necessary, the box should be re-varnished. Such actions will significantly prolong his life.
