Orekhovo slopes for beginner snowboarders

50 kilometers from St. Petersburg is the Orekhovo ski resort, which consists of several unequipped slopes that were popular among ski lovers at the end of the last century. Then visitors got to the slopes on a special electric train “Ski Arrow”. When the Ski Arrow route was abolished, the Orekhovo ski resort was practically forgotten. However, after the resumption of electric train traffic, skiers began to appear on its slopes again.

The Orekhovo ski resort has only 9 slopes. The slopes here have a short length and height difference. The longest route is about 300 meters with a height difference of 55 meters. However, one should take into account the fact that the slopes here are extremely “wild”, with natural unevenness and obstacles, which makes them quite difficult for beginners. Advanced skiers will undoubtedly be pleased.

Visitors are transported to the top by three rope tow lifts, the cost of which is very affordable even in modern times.

Ski arrows are collective trips to the countryside on free electric trains with the assistance of the city administration. Special trains run from Finlyandsky and Moskovsky stations to the villages of Orekhovo and Shapki from January 8 to March 12, 2017.

Mass ski starts with the same name are traditionally organized in the villages. Train tickets can be obtained from the physical education and sports departments of district administrations.

“Ski Arrows”, according to a long-standing tradition, starts during the New Year holidays as part of the All-Russian Decade of Sports and Health. It is very important that the project is aimed at developing and popularizing mass sports, an active and healthy lifestyle,” emphasized committee chairman Pavel Belov.

Trains depart on weekends until March 12. You can get to the village of Orekhovo from the Finlyandsky station, and to the village of Shapki from the Moskovsky station. The schedule can be found on the Sports Committee website.

The sun is shining brighter.
We are still riding in Oselki, but this is the last time we have left.

I want to summarize my winter knowledge.
So, brief characteristics of the ski slopes in the north of St. Petersburg, along the railway line to Sosnovo.
We take the train to Devyatkino and go, go north. What we see:

Toksovo. Raspberry slide.

Length- 5, 10 km.
Pros. A beautiful ski trail through the forest. Five kilometers of rough terrain. The slides are nice. Uuuh :)). Getting there is 15 minutes from the city.
Minuses.
Ice. With our weather, sometimes the slides become frozen after a thaw or rain. And then the sliding is not entirely controlled.
Goats. The ski tracks are laid by enthusiasts. There are signs everywhere that this is a ski track and that snowmobiles are prohibited from entering.
However, from time to time there are amateurs who travel along the ski tracks. They take a ride once, and then the ski track takes weeks to level out...
You can read about the condition of the track (and just about the track) before leaving here: https://vk.com/malingora
How to get there. Without crossing the path, we walk 400 meters forward, along the railway to the crossing. After crossing we go out onto the road, there will be dachas on the left, Kavgolovskoye Lake on the right.
We walk 300 meters along the road, turn right, skirting the lake. After a few meters there will be signs for the exit to the ski track.

Kavgolovo, Dynamo base track.

Length- 5 km.
Pros. Rental available! The place is popular, there are a lot of people, but there is enough skiing for everyone.
The ski track is beautiful - it goes along the Toksovsky Heights natural monument. These are the hills of a relict ancient sea. In the summer there is a “health path” along them, and in the winter there is a ski track.
Accordingly, the entire ski track is in a centuries-old forest and on hills.
Minuses. There are a lot of people, you have to push around on weekends. The slides can be very rolled out.
How to get there. We keep the direction perpendicular to the railway line, avoiding steep hills. The route is on the map at the end of the list.

Kavgolovo, lake

Length- 10 km around the perimeter. This is, of course, not a track, but it’s nice to ride! There is a ski track along the entire perimeter of the lake.
Pros. Very close to the train. 50 meters - and you are already “at work”. To ski on the lake, you can rent the Dynamo ski lodge.
There is access to the lake through a tunnel under the railway, and it is located 200 meters from the base.
If the forest is good for slides, then here there is space, skating, song :))
Minuses. The wind is colder than in the forest.
How to get there. When we get off the train, there is a lake on the left, behind the train. The ski track runs along the entire lake, so we can go out at any convenient place.

Kavgolovo, training center

Length- 3 km.
Was not. But it exists. And the ski track there is the steepest - it is supported by compactors and snow cannons. Paid. In summer it is a roller ski track.

How to get there. We walk forward as the train moves. The route is next to the train station. It's on the map at the end of the list.

Kavgolovo. Ski track of the VIFK Institute of Physical Education

Length- 5, 10 km.
Pros. A beautiful ski track that is well maintained. Wide, both under the ridge and under the classics. Free - it is not crowded on a square kilometer, but in wide arcs, there are branches where you can turn and open new places. Varied - there are long flat sections, and there are also pleasant slides.
A huge plus is that there is evening lighting, which means you can ride in the winter in the afternoon.
Minuses. Not very convenient to get to. It takes half an hour to walk from the train; it’s more convenient to take minibuses from Devyatkino.
How to get there. Minibuses go 205, 691 to the stop "VIFK Training Center". From the stop the ski track is on the right, starting almost immediately from the stop. The route is on the map at the end of the list.

Oselki

Length- 5 km.
Pros. Smooth, calm ski trail along an old Finnish road. The snow lasts for a very long time - thanks to the person who takes care of the ski tracks. The ditches on the sides of the road help prevent puddles from forming even at +10. The shade from the trees and the absence of slopes make the snow stable and uniform. Lasts until the first butterflies :)). The roadsides are already coltsfoot, the forest around is without snow, but you can still ski on the ski tracks.
Minuses. Well, it’s too smooth, just like you’re skating at a stadium.
How to get there. From the train we walk back 100 meters to the intersection with the highway. We turn onto the highway, right. We walk along the road for 600 meters, almost to the end of all the buildings. In front of the last house on the left side of the road there will be a left turn perpendicular to the highway, blocked from cars by concrete blocks. here you can already start skiing, this path leads to the ski track.

Riding on the Raspberry Hill, in Oselki and on the ice of Lake Kavgolovskoye can be combined. They are connected by paths and are located nearby. And they complement each other, giving completely different skating.

Orekhovo

Length- 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 km.
Pros. There are places to ride. This is a ski track from Ski Arrow. Well maintained, with signs. varied, beautiful.
If you go skiing with children, then the Ski Arrow will be comfortable. A lot of people, tea in the clearing from the organizers, games. The arrows are free (there is also a train going south), but you need to book a ticket and call.
Minuses. It's a bit far. It takes an hour to get from Devyatkino by train. Those. You need to spend at least three hours on the road to ride.
How to get there. From the train we walk back 700 meters along the railway. The turn off onto the highway will be visible, it is well marked. There are signs on all routes in Orekhovo.

Of course, the list is not complete. I hope each season will add more explored routes to it.
In conclusion,
