Story

The highway was built specifically to provide a road connection and comfortable movement to Moscow through the territory of Belarus. Construction began back in 1936, to which the forces of prisoners and youth sent on Komsomol vouchers were thrown. In July 1941 the section connecting the main cities of the republics was completed. Construction work continued in 1942 and the asphalt pavement was completed in 1955. Modern reconstructions were carried out in 1980, 2011, 2013, 2015 - as a result of which the motorway has become an exemplary road, which is compared with European ones.

Current state

The entire length of the highway is distinguished by a smooth asphalt concrete surface, which can be compared with Germany in quality. 84 km of the road are fully illuminated by electric masts. Flat terrain excludes dangerous ascents and descents. Part of the highway has 4 lanes, and in some sections it turns into 8. Safe pedestrian movement: in settlements there are restrictive structures and controlled crossings.

Paid section M1

The Belarusian section of the motorway is fully paid for foreigners. Russians and citizens of other countries that are members of the EAEU can travel on the road for free. Therefore, many Russians prefer to use this highway when traveling to Europe.

roadside service

For those traveling long distances, there are hotels and cafes on the M1 highway. High-quality infrastructure allows you to adequately relax and gain strength for the trip. For long-distance travelers, there will be no problems with the question of where to spend the night or have a bite to eat.

The path runs through breathtaking terrain, surrounded on all sides by plains and dense forests. Forest areas intersect with an abundance of beautiful reservoirs. On some of them you can relax. Tourist bases and sanatoriums are located near the main route, which will allow you to stop and spend time in comfortable rooms.
You can visit the ancient Russian city of Mozhaisk, not far from it is the place of heroic glory of 1812 - Borodino. Architectural monuments are the ruins of the Luzhatsky Monastery and St. Nicholas Cathedral. It is also worth seeing in Vyazma the remains of the fortress walls and the three-hipped Hodegetria Church. Significant historical memorials from the wars of 1812, 1941-1945 have also remained here. It is worth highlighting military museums, reconstructions of famous battles, as well as religious monuments.
Among the sights you can see the monuments to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya and the "Road Warriors", the Chapel of the Icon of God and the Life-Giving Mother. The Church of the Holy Intercession in the village of Bukhovichi is worthy of attention in the old style, in the Brest region there is an obelisk installed on the site of the Beryoza-Kartuzskaya concentration camp. During the journey, you can see several dozens of ancient churches and old lords' houses with park complexes.

In AR No. 10, 2017, an article by Maxim Chernyavsky was surprised, in which the author, complaining about the heavy workload and the state of the E30 highway, writes: “But among the column there will certainly be some old man who “sicks” at a speed of 75 km / h and more just can't... Can you imagine how much time and distance a truck needs to overtake with a speed difference of 15 km/h? And with crazy car drivers in the process?

I myself drive this road every day and know firsthand how it is. I completely agree that the E30 is hopelessly outdated and cannot be called federal. However, I want to remind you that, according to the traffic rules, trucks with a maximum permitted weight of more than 3.5 tons outside settlements can move at a speed of no more than 70 km / h! As for the “reckless drivers of cars”, I more often meet drivers of trucks on the same E30 highway that exceed all conceivable speed limits. They seem not to notice the sign "Beginning of the settlement" when I slow down in my car to the prescribed 60 km / h. And some of them, if it’s impossible to overtake, also signal with a locomotive horn or blink their headlights, as if urging them on. Well, of course, they are in a hurry... Bentley and Rolls-Royces are being transported, because such a cargo, as you write, must be delivered quickly, because the owners waiting for them are, let's say, not easy people.

Recently, on the pages of Autoreview it is often said that the main problem of our roads is this. That there is no weight control without corruption... Or maybe it's all about difficult people? After all, it is not because of overload that the width of the federal highways is such that two trucks can barely pass on them. And in settlements where heavy trucks do not even drive, the asphalt still comes off with the snow ...

In favor of Vasolargus

Many thanks to Ivan Shadrichev for different engines! However, I have a number of additions.

First, the final calculation of the cost of ownership should include the difference in the amount of transport tax, which is calculated at different rates for 87 and 102 horsepower. They differ depending on the region, but the approximate gain of Vasolargus will be one and a half thousand rubles a year. So your 800 rubles with kopecks a month can easily grow to almost a thousand - there is already something to think about, right?

Second: the article does not specify which gearboxes the engines are aggregated with, with the same or different ones? I also have a Largus, and although the French gearbox is not ideal, I would not want to change it to a howling VAZ miracle. And hence the third: my car is not with a 16-valve French engine, but with an 84-horsepower eight-valve engine, and it would be much more interesting to compare the VAZ engine with it.

I have already traveled to Belarus by car about twenty times. These trips took place over the course of a year. In different weather and different times of the day.

Therefore, I decided to write instructions for using the M1 Moscow-Minsk highway.

I must say right away that the M1 highway is one of the best in Russia, if not the best.
On it you can safely go to Belarus and not be afraid of anything.

From Moscow to Minsk 700 km. On the highway this way takes me about 7 hours. With all stops.

All the way, with the exception of the departure from Moscow, a very measured and calculated route.

There are two ways to leave Moscow.
Directly along Kutuzovsky Prospekt, which passes into Minka, also known as the M1 highway, or along the bypass around Odintsovo.

The paid route costs 150 R. The amount is divided into two stages. 100 R. and 50 R. at two checkpoints.

After leaving Moscow, the best road in Russia will open before you. Route M1.

04. The road surface is very good!

But beware of the cameras. In Russia, signs with cameras in front are not installed everywhere.
I also recommend slowing down in urban areas. The traffic police on this route does not sleep.

The cameras themselves hang mainly on bridges. And they look like ordinary cameras all over the country. Small, not noticeable.

When I travel to Belarus, I have two or three stops during the journey.

I always leave with a full tank of fuel. The car needs to be refueled in the evening. Otherwise, it will be difficult and you can lose a lot of time while looking for a gas station while you stop by.

I buy water and snacks for the road so as not to stop.

The first stop on the way, after 400 km immediately after Smolensk.

You pass the traffic police post (the blue building immediately after the bridge) and there will be a Rosneft gas station on the right. On it you can refuel, buy something, go to the toilet and buy a Green Card there.

A green card is needed to enter the territory of Belarus and Europe. This is normal insurance.
Two weeks on the territory of Belarus and Ukraine (minimum period) it costs 550 R.

They are sold everywhere along the highway. But I found the most convenient way. And refuel and arrange.

Rest for one.

09. Green card looks like this

We have no border with Belarus. There is customs control for trucks. And cars go by without stopping.

Only a modest sign "Republic of Belarus" will tell you about crossing the border.

From the border you will find it just over 200 km to Minsk. With a stunning road and views of the plowed fields.

Roads in Belarus are close to ideal.

Once I went to Belarus right after Germany. So the roads are very close in quality.

Moreover, I traveled almost all over the country. Quality roads almost everywhere! So you can safely drive here in cars with large disks.

There are traffic cameras along the highway. You can't be afraid of them.

And there are cameras that issue fines. But they always come with warnings in advance.

During my travels, I was photographed a couple of times. But the fines never came.
Be careful at the first settlement, which is called Buda. There is a 60 km/h limit.

Almost all cameras, with the exception of one or two, photograph the car from behind.

15. Cameras look like this

Along the highway there are entrances to paid sections. But this is also only for trucks. In passenger cars, you drive at a slower speed.

16.

My travel time.
