And if you have a car, no matter your own or rented, then you can go to Milan with it, the main thing is that you have a Schengen visa and all the necessary documents for the car and the required license. The route should be taken along the following roads: A9, A2 and A4, A8. The only downside is that some sections are paid, you will have to fork out more, but in return you will get a trip on a very high-quality empty surface, where there are no holes and humps, and if they appear, the road services will quickly eliminate them. In the direction to Milan and in the opposite direction there are two or three lanes for traffic, bumpers, fences, high-quality markings, signs and indicators, as well as information boards. You will spend approximately three hours on the way. But it seems to me that the journey may drag on for another hour - after all, there are stunning landscapes along the way, and you may get hungry and stop at one of the cafes or restaurants along the way. Also, in addition to traveling along the highways that I listed above, you can travel along the A13 and A3 highways - however, such a trip involves a “detour” of almost sixty kilometers and plus forty minutes on the road. However, if you want to take the time to visit Liechtenstein, this route is for you.

From Zurich to Milan by bus

You can travel along a similar route, but as a carefree passenger looking out the window and listening to music, by bus. This opportunity is provided by the Eurolines transport community. Buses to Milan leave every day. Departure times: seven hours thirty minutes in the morning, fifteen hours thirty minutes, seventeen hours forty-five minutes and eighteen hours fifty minutes in the evening. There are three to four flights per day. Sometimes there is no morning flight. Travel time is four to five hours depending on the flight. Despite the territorial affiliation of the resort, getting to Zermatt is most profitable from (central airport). If the need to travel internationally doesn't excite you, choose Geneva. You will also enjoy lower ticket prices from Moscow and breathtaking landscapes - the train sometimes runs along the very edge of Lake Geneva.

As for the dilemma - taxi or public transport, there are no compelling reasons to order a transfer in Switzerland. No matter how much I would like to sell it to you. The network of electric trains is excellently developed, and the electric trains themselves are so beautiful that you could go on and on. Therefore, it makes sense to compare the train and transfer only like a regular hostel and a four-star hotel. If you want to save money, buy a train ticket. If you don’t want to be annoyed by the hustle and bustle and deprive yourself of comfort, order a transfer.

By the way, there is no gain in time either. Or rather, there is, but it’s small.

Train tickets are not personalized and are valid for the entire day of purchase for any train in a given direction (except in cases where seats are specially reserved). Can be in one or both directions. On the train, you can take any seat in the corresponding class, unless this seat is subject to reservation (usually there is a corresponding notice on the wall with seat numbers in this case).

Most modern trains in Switzerland are adapted for disabled people - a single level with a platform, a retractable step, a flat floor, and now even special expanded toilets that can easily accommodate a wheelchair.

Every carriage must have a toilet, which can also be used at stations. Flush, liquid soap and water are activated by buttons (on the floor, on the wall or above the tap with designated symbols).

Many trains have a coffee and snack service: a man with a cart walks through the cars offering tea, juices, coffee, sandwiches and some baked goods. Swiss trains are almost never late. However, due to disruptions or large crowds delaying shipments, minor delays may occur, although they are extremely rare. In the case of tourist destinations, for example to mountain towns, the next regional train may also be delayed, since its movement is synchronized with the rest.
However, when traveling to the airport, it is better to be a little safe.

Most often problems arise with trains in Bern. To better know the situation, download the SBB application to your smartphone, you can see the schedule there. It also indicates being late if there is some problem or delay with the flight, or the flight is cancelled. Be careful on days of snowfall - this usually causes a literal transport collapse, mainly urban transport, but also leapfrog begins with trains.

International trains

In addition to the local Swiss railway network SBB, the French TGV and the Italian CIS Alpino also operate here. Tickets for such trains can only be purchased at ticket offices and usually require a seat reservation. The longest period for purchasing tickets is about 3 months (depending on the destination). Tickets can vary significantly in price, usually there are so-called SPAR tickets - a special offer at a reduced price. They are the cheapest, but there are very few of them and there is practically no chance of buying them at a convenient time (Friday evening, for example). But on a normal weekday, it’s quite possible to make it in time.

Most international trains are not much different from ordinary Swiss ones - the distances are short and the journey rarely exceeds 7 hours. However, there are also night trains. In them, the ticket price is determined by the type of compartment: there are seats (the cheapest), compartments for 6, 4, 3 and 2. The more people per compartment, the cheaper the ticket. The 6-seater (and three-seater) compartment is a standard compartment with three shelves on each side (one for a three-seater). There is no usual table by the window, but there is a ladder there that allows you to easily climb onto the shelf. Of course, you won’t be able to sit in such a compartment until the middle shelf is folded down.
Coupes are divided into women's, men's and mixed. The ticket price includes bed linen (usually a sheet to wrap yourself in, a pillow with a pillowcase, a mattress and a blanket) and a light breakfast (coffee or tea and a bun with butter and jam). Travel times are designed to arrive at your destination around 8am.
