There should be no sharp protrusions in the container, the inner edges of the container should be smooth and rounded to avoid injury to the animal.

The container with the transported animal must be labeled "Live Animals" in green or "Laboratory Animals" in red (if necessary). The "Top" label must be affixed to both sides of the container. The label may be stamped on the container.

There must be a place inside the carriage for attaching containers with water and feed. The shipper himself provides the animal with food. The feed must comply with all the standards of the country where the animal is imported or through which it transits. Products of animal origin, meat or products containing meat are not allowed to be transported inside the container. Unknown pet food will not be accepted.

The bottom of the container must be waterproof and covered with absorbent material. The use of straw is not allowed, as some countries prohibit its import. The container must be made of non-toxic materials. Chemically impregnated wood and iron drinkers can be poisonous. The roof of the container must be solid. Ventilation holes can be located on the entire surface of the cover, while they should not violate its strength.

As an exception, it is allowed to transport birds in tightly closed baskets or cages covered with a thick opaque cloth.
