On January 3, 1949, by resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 18, in order to perpetuate the memory of Hero of the Soviet Union Taran Grigory Alekseevich, for success in training flight personnel, the Sasovo Flight School of the Civil Air Fleet was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Taran G.A.

The school has a rich history. It was an excellent base for training personnel for the USSR Civil Aviation. Being the closest flight school to Moscow, it received an unofficial nickname among the graduates of the “court school”. During its work within the walls of the institution, hundreds of first-class pilots were trained, who dispersed after graduation throughout the former Union. Pupils of the school have always been valued and were in demand both in the far north and at large airports in Moscow. Also during the Soviet era, cadets from Vietnam, Afghanistan, Cuba, and African countries were trained.

Training took place on aircraft of the following types: Po-2, Li-2, Yak-12, Yak-18A, Yak-18T, An-2, L-410; An-24 aircraft were operated for a short time. There were also retraining courses for helicopters Ka-15, Mi-1, Mi-4.

With the collapse of the USSR, the school went through hard times in the 90s: 20 cadets per course, lack of instructors, lack of fuel ...

The Sasovo Civil Aviation Flight School is located in the Ryazan region and is a secondary aviation educational institution. The school is a branch of the Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation.

In 1943, a flight school was founded in the city of Isilkul, Omsk Region, where the initial training of pilots of the civil air fleet was carried out. The school was formed on the basis of the air squadrons of Isilkul and Yanaul with the involvement of flight personnel. In 1945 she was relocated to Sasovo. In 1949, for his services to the Fatherland in the training of young pilots Grigory Alekseevich Taran, his name was given to the Sasovo Flight School of the Civil Air Fleet.

The Soviet years were the heyday of the school. During this period, he was unofficially called "court" due to the fact that the Servant of Civil Aviation was located not far from Moscow. The high level of teaching made it possible to train qualified specialists who were valued throughout the country. In addition, the school actively trained foreign cadets.

The training process was conducted on an extensive range of aircraft and helicopters, allowing the release of diversified specialists in piloting.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the school began a real decline. The aviation crisis during this period also affected educational institutions. Due to lack of funding, there was an outflow of students, the number of which was only twenty people. There was a catastrophic lack of fuel for refueling aircraft, as well as experienced instructors.

An important step towards restoring the former name of the school was its merger with the Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation in 2009. Since then and to the present, the Servant of Civil Aviation has been its branch. In 2012, a new concrete runway was built at the school, and in 2014 the canteen building for cadets was reconstructed. Today, the Servant of Civil Aviation is confidently increasing the number of applicants every year and is training personnel on modern simulators.
