What unites Johnny Depp and Sean Connery, David Copperfield and Shakira, and finally, Mariah Carey and Michael Jordan? The fact of having a nice mansion in the Bahamas. This amazing region has long and unconditionally received the status of the best place for a beach holiday among Americans and a good half of humanity, one must think, not by chance. Palm trees leaning over the azure sea, snow-white sand, rich underwater life and no less intense night life - these are just what catches your eye immediately upon arrival. But in the bowels of their Bahamas are fraught with much more pleasure. For example, few people know about the fame of the Bahamian casinos, which turn over millions of dollars every week and about the same number of guests annually.

The main resorts of the Bahamas

Great Abaco is the second largest island in the Bahamas, well known to all yachtsmen in the world. The sailing season here lasts from spring to autumn. Vast coastal shallow waters are teeming with fish. Here you can do any of the existing water sports, fishing, or visit the duty-free shops of the largest city of the island - Marsh Harbor.

Long Island is almost never visited by tourists. But in vain - this is the most picturesque island of the Bahamas, with beautiful nature and many places completely untouched by civilization. At the northern tip of the island, Cape Santa Maria is a long white sandy beach, one of the most beautiful in the western hemisphere. The main city of the island, Stella Maris, is a small but quite modern settlement, the starting point for diving and fishing expeditions.

The Exuma island ridge includes over 360 small islands, and in its southern part there are two rather large islands - Greater and Lesser Exuma, where all the local civilization is concentrated. This archipelago is a real paradise for yachtsmen, because the local places are considered one of the most beautiful in the world: constant tides, changing the depth of coastal shallows, make the sea extraordinarily beautiful. Diving enthusiasts will also have great fun here. All the details about the cities and resorts of the Bahamas - on the page "Subtleties of tourism"

You can also call to another country from the post office.

Long Island is almost never visited by tourists. But in vain - this is the most picturesque island of the Bahamas, with beautiful nature and many places completely untouched by civilization.

Tourist safety

All popular tourist areas are quite safe, but petty crimes are not uncommon: theft in hotel rooms and pickpocketing. With the onset of darkness, tourists, and especially women, are better off walking alone.

Spearfishing with the use of spearguns and other devices is prohibited on the islands. Sport fishing is allowed, but a fee of 20 USD must be paid for one trip to the sea - provided that no more than six reels of fishing line are installed on the vessel. Independent archaeological work on sunken ships is also prohibited. Violation of these rules can result in a hefty fine and deportation from the country.

Do not forget to tell tourists that local laws regarding drug trafficking are very strict: for the sale and even just the use of drugs, it is quite possible to get a long prison term.

The climate of the Bahamas

The climate is tropical trade winds in the north and subtropical in the south. The average summer temperature is +26...+32 °C. On the southern islands (Big and Small Inagua, Mayaguana) in summer it is much warmer than in the central part of the archipelago. In winter, the average temperature is +18...+22 °C, the coolest is in the northwestern islands. The average water temperature is usually +27 °C in summer and around +23 °C in winter. The best time to visit the country is the cool season from September to May.

The most stable exchange rate is in the offices of international banks in Nassau and Freeport, the most disadvantageous is in tourist areas.

All types of credit cards are accepted for payment. Traveler's checks can be cashed in the same place where you can change currency - at bank offices, hotels and large stores. Some hotels, restaurants, and money changers charge high commissions for cashing checks, so it's always best to find out the terms and conditions in advance.

Messengers, guides, porters and porters usually expect around USD 1 per piece of luggage or excursion, and maids, depending on the hotel, USD 1-2 per day. A government tax is added to the bills of many hotels, from 10% (Nassau and Grand Bahama) to 8% (Family Islands).

Banks are usually open from 9:00-9:30 to 15:00 from Monday to Thursday, on Fridays - from 9:30 to 17:00. However, opening hours on different islands may vary. Some banks in the periphery are often only open one or two days a week.

US dollars are freely circulating in the country.

Why it is impossible to carry out a space flight to Mars in 500 days
Among other tasks that a person will have to solve when preparing an expedition to Mars, one of the main ones is the calculation of the flight time. This is very important, since it is necessary to create such an autonomous life support system that would guarantee the success of the entire most difficult undertaking. Let us make a reservation right away that modern rocket and space technology using the principles of jet propulsion has managed to achieve only the first (7.9 km / s) and second (11.2 km / s) space velocities necessary for a spacecraft to enter a near-Earth orbit and fly to to other planets. The third cosmic speed was achieved by the American Pioneer stations not due to the thrust of the engines, but due to acceleration in the gravitational field of the giant planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) when flying past. That's all our successes. Nevertheless, the second cosmic velocity is quite enough to fly to Mars and return back.
The Earth and Mars revolve around the Sun at different speeds (30 km/s and 24 km/s, respectively), so the Earth, when moving along its orbit, always "catches up" with Mars. When the planets are on the same side of the Sun, and the distance between their orbits is minimal, opposition occurs. This position of the Earth and Mars occurs approximately every 780 days (i.e. 26 months), see Figure No. 1. During opposition periods, it is most profitable to fly to Mars, but due to the fact that the orbit of Mars is highly elongated, and the Earth's orbit is almost circular, the distance between them varies from 55 to 100 million km. In other cases, the distance between the planets can reach, for example, if they are located at the opposite, most distant from the Sun, points of the orbit - 400 million km.
The line has reached me. I gave my passport - a simple, red, Russian passport - and smiled broadly. "Boleta?" - gave the ticket, the one with which he arrived. The stern-faced border guard held the passport in one hand, the ticket in the other, then put them together, then separated them again. I had to enter into a dialogue with him in Spanish, he did not speak other languages, including Russian, and my then stocks of Spanish were scarce - aqui (here) and ahi (there), and a little more. Looking ahead, I will say that I still have not mastered it in the Cuban version. The word "gugana" - or something like that, but also googly - can mean anything: Havana, "mayaguana" (sea turtle), "marijuana" ... In general, he shook the ticket and said "aki", then still shaking, and already - "ai", only interrogatively. Finally, I guessed what he wanted to say: this is a ticket here, but where - there? "Ai?" I asked. "Ai?" - in turn he asked, and again began to torment the ticket. From the outside, it apparently sounded like a duel in some kind of martial arts. "Aki, reservation!" - The border guard went into deep protection (unbelievable - I guessed the reason later - booking tickets is not common in Cuba, and a statesman simply did not know about such a thing!) - "Reservation," I repeated again, not knowing what other word was needed, to mean such a simple thing - Boleta por Boleta!" This affected him no more than if I presented a ballet ticket. Now all this is funny, but then it was not funny.
In short, the border guards made it impossible to interrupt these linguistic experiments in a simple way: they took my two suitcases and dragged me silently. "Donde"? (where) They just waved - high, spacious ... On the way, I realized that they wanted to put me on the Aeroflot plane, which brought me. Back, that is, to Moscow. Just the right company was selected at the entrance: a bewitched black man in a knitted hat, from the category of international homeless people, some suspicious fellow countryman ... It’s good that we argued at the booth for a long time (aki-ai), the plane was already in a hurry to take off. I also, as I realized all this, arranged a wallet striptease, which confirmed that I was flying to the Bahamas (local papers, rights), in no case was I going to stay in Cuba (God forbid!), and in general I would buy it all in the bud! For this purpose, I showed five hundred dollars in cash (a very solid amount by local standards), as well as credit cards (no emotions) In general, with the help of our Aeroflot representative (huge thanks to this woman, by the way!), I managed to convince them of their relative reliability. I was forced to immediately buy a ticket to Nassau (at the highest fare, by the way), and also pay for a hotel for the night (Havana Libre, one hundred dollars a night - there were no other representatives of the hotel service in the border zone). In addition, seventy-five percent of its cost was ripped off for taking the video monitor out of the airport, in other words, about a hundred remained of my respectable five-house apartment.
I describe in detail my ordeals so that those who begin their trips to Cuba understand. You need to go to Cuba knowing Spanish, and knowing it well, not according to the school curriculum, in order to distinguish the local goog. All the talk that in Cuba everyone (!) knows Russian is bullshit, no one there knows anything, and especially government services. And even more crap that the Russians are treated well there, they say, according to old memory. I don’t know about the “old memory”, but while I was butting heads with the border guards, some Canadians passed by - without delay, every single one, and some Russians also stuck out from my flight, their passports passed from one hand to another, traveled around the world like Passepartout. Then, already knowing the Cubans, I can say: in general, they are hospitable, but they don’t single out anyone in particular, that is, they love those who have money and who loves to spend it.
And one more thing: in Cuba, with special care, you need to monitor the ammunition load of papers. For the paper to be accurate, "actual" - like Bulgakov's - armor! Although it’s about booking just in the eye, but in the eyebrow ... Be sure to take into account that all sorts of reservations for tickets, hotels, and credit cards - Western stuff - are not known everywhere in Cuba, not to everyone, not completely. With such steps to the left and right (to the right - in Cuba it is already politically impossible to go to the left), the official will simply shoot! Without warning. Or rather, it will warn, but due to ignorance of the language you will not understand this. And so it is still there.
Part two. How can you spend a day in Cuba for a hundred dollars? Very nice. The fact that housing is already available - and not at all weak, for a hundred dollars - does not mean anything, and now I will explain why. First we shoot "chika" - or rather, we don’t even shoot, but she herself. If you walk from the "Havana Libre" along the Rambla, then sooner or later you yourself will be taken by the arm, by the arm, inevitably, you will not fight back yet. I came across a young black woman, flaca (skinny), in the Bahamas, such a rarity. It was called pompously: Isabaya Mercedes Madrasah, I dubbed it "mattress" to myself, and I will call it below. She turned out to be quite progressive, she knew a dozen words in English. Apparently, she was preparing herself for a career as a prostitute.
Immediately make a reservation that I will not focus on lyrical moments - where, how much, and who is on top. This is already enough in the notes from the island of Freedom. More emphasis on the practical side of things. At my initial attempts to bring her just to the Havana Libre hotel room, Isabaya Mercedes Medrese rolled out her black, round eyes, like those of an antelope, in horror: Negroes with walkie-talkie swarmed around the hotel, and apparently where these girls were handed over. So, practical advice: going to Cuba for this - and how much to fly to the bugs still go there? Don't try to stay in a luxury hotel. All the same, you will have to pay for a private dormidor for the night. Mine turned out to be quite decent, for thirty dollars a night, with hot water, which is not always the case, with a decrepit creaky bed, with lovely smiling hosts who kindly warned me to keep my eyes open with such girls.

Probably, the Bahamas are one of the most mysterious islands that have been firmly planted in our heads since childhood, as something distant, chic and unattainable ... And indeed, it turned out that getting to the Bahamas is not so easy.

The first thing I did was, of course, I tried in our search engine ... but it wasn’t there - the search engine gives out literally two or three hotels, and even then only accommodation and most often without a flight! It became clear:

  1. Russian tour operators practically do not travel to the Bahamas
  2. you can book a hotel either through a tour operator or directly through the hotel metasearch
  3. You will also have to deal with the search and purchase of air tickets yourself.

What about accommodation?

In ours, I managed to find the cheapest accommodation option (with a flight) for 7 nights at The Orange Hill Inn 2 *, Nassau for 195,000 rubles (without meals), Sandals Royal Bahamian 5 * hotel, Nassau it will cost from 208,216 rubles for only 5 nights, but already with AI meals (All inclusive) - the search is relevant at the beginning of March 2018... but what about metasearch?

Our hotel metasearch returned the following results:

  1. - from 47 800 for 7 nights (breakfast included)

  2. - from 35 900 for 7 nights (without meals)

It is important to note that when buying a ready-made tour through a tour operator, the price includes not only accommodation, but also transfer to and from the hotel, medical insurance, guide services and sometimes travel cancellation insurance, while when booking a hotel through a metasearch - only accommodation and sometimes breakfast.

What about air tickets?

With air tickets to the Bahamas, everything turned out to be not easy - despite the presence of (at least three) large airports in the Bahamas, there are no direct flights from Russia, not by regular flights, nor by charters. What are the options?

There are not many options. With one transfer, you can fly to the Bahamas via London or via the USA, but in the latter case, you will need to obtain a transit American visa. There are other options with two ... and even three connections, but I will focus on the option with one transfer. So:

  1. - a ticket for one person costs from 43,000 rubles. (travel time from 15 hours, including transfers, to infinity ... but on average about 23-24 hours). There are also flight options with a change in Miami (MIA), but the flight is much more expensive - from 69,000 rubles.
  2. To the Bahamas through the UK, London (LHR) - a ticket for one person costs from 77,000 rubles. (journey time from 16 hours including connection and up to...)

Thus, it is cheaper through the USA, but you will have to spend money and it is not known how long it will take to obtain a transit American visa.

What about transfer and insurance?

I managed to find - by shuttle about 19 euros one way per person ... if you wish, you can order a limousine for 166 euros one way (travel time about 30 minutes).

It will cost only about 1500 rubles for two.

By the way, if you are already vacationing in Miami or planning a vacation there, you will be interested that there is a daily ferry from Fort Lauderdale (half an hour from Miami) to the Bahamas - the Bahamas Express, which arrives on the island of Grand Bahama (Grand Bahamas). The price of a one-way ticket is 75 US dollars. Travel time from 2.5 to 3 hours:

  • Departure from Fort Lauderdale 8:00 - p life about. Grand Bahama - 11:00.
  • Departure from about. Grand Bahama 19:00 - p life Fort Lauderdale - 22:00.

What about visa?

Russians do not need a visa to the Bahamas, provided that you plan to rest in the Bahamas for no more than 3 months. However, it is worth remembering that if you decide to fly through the United States, you will definitely need to apply for a transit American visa.

How to eat?

The food industry in the Bahamas is represented quite widely - from local cafes and global fast food chains to medium and expensive restaurants. A set lunch, for example, at McDonald's will cost you about 6.5 Bahamian dollars, the average bill in an inexpensive cafe is 10-15 Bahamian dollars per person, and lunch or dinner in a mid-range restaurant will cost about 60-70 Bahamian dollars. By the way, the rate of the Bahamian dollar is rigidly pegged to the US dollar at a ratio of 1:1.

  • Accommodation for two from 47 800 rubles.
  • Round-trip flight through London for two from 152,000 rubles.
  • Round-trip shuttle transfer about 5,000 rubles.
  • Travel insurance for two from 1,500 rubles.
  • Meals according to your requests))

In total it turns out that minimum budget for a trip to the Bahamas excluding purchases, excursions and meals, about 200,000 rubles with independent planning. The purchase price of a ready-made tour is comparable in price, but in this case, all the worries fall on the travel agency.

I hope I didn’t scare anyone))) After all, all the difficulties in planning a trip to the Bahamas are more than compensated by the stunning beauty of the Bahamas and the unique atmosphere.

Look how beautiful:
