In August-September 2016 we vacationed in Dagomys. In 2 weeks we managed to explore this place well and form our own impression about it. In this post I will talk about the positive and negative sides of a holiday in Dagomys, about where you can live, where to swim, what to see and what to bring. In addition, you can rent an apartment or room. Along the Dagomys River there are boathouses that are also rented out to vacationers. Prices start from 500 rubles per room.

A good option is small hotels. For example, we stayed at a hotel "Golden Orchid". A big plus of this place is the presence of a small swimming pool, open at any time of the day. And it’s very close to the sea - 7 minutes walk.

The largest hotels in Dagomys are the Dagomys health complex and the Olimpiysky-Dagomys boarding house located next to it. The most expensive is the Mercury health complex, which is located on the territory of Dagomys.

A holiday in a health resort is not cheap; a double room with two meals a day in high season can cost you from 9 thousand rubles and more. Many rooms are distributed free of charge among advantaged groups of the population or are paid for by the trade union.

However, to get to the beach, you will have to walk along the road for 10-15 minutes and then take the elevator down. However, if you are not a fan of walking or are simply very tired, you can use an electric car for a fee. True, you will have to pay for it at the ticket office on the beach or in the hotel lobby, and not on the spot.

In my opinion, the big disadvantage of Dagomys is that, due to its shape, the sound rises upward, which is why it is very noisy in the rooms when the windows are open. In addition, not everyone will like such a large concentration of people in one place.

Even if you are not vacationing in Dagomys, you can use the services provided in this health complex for a fee. In addition, on its territory there are very good restaurants “Beer House” and “Caucasian Kitchen”.

Beaches of Dagomys

All beaches in Dagomys are pebbly. The coastal line is separated from the village by a railway, through which several crossings are laid.

North of the Dagomys River is free city beach. However, this “free” service is very conditional: all additional services, such as the use of a sunbed, tent, changing room or toilet, are paid. In addition, it is always noisy and crowded here. There are various entertainment options for children, such as inflatable slides and trampolines.

There are cafes along the city beach where you can grab a bite to eat. A little further away, on Armavirskaya Street there are numerous benches and shops selling food, fruit, souvenirs, beachwear and much more.

To the south of the Dagomys River there are closed to outsiders beaches "Dagomys" and "Olympic-Dagomys". For a fee, anyone can swim and sunbathe there. A day pass costs 200 rubles (prices for 2016), but if you buy a pass for more days, the price per day will be 150 rubles or less depending on the period. For this money you also get the opportunity to use sun loungers, awnings, changing rooms, showers and toilets for free.

A long gallery stretches along the entire beach, which houses sanitary facilities, cafes and restaurants, as well as benches and smoking areas. You can go up to the second floor, where you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area. In the morning, exercises are carried out here for everyone.

Public transport and taxis in Dagomys

The Batumi Highway passes through Dagomys, along which public transport runs. However, he does not go closer to the sea. The only means of transportation here is personal vehicles or taxis. However, if there is no parking near your hotel, then some problems may arise: the streets in many parts of the village are narrow, and finding a place to park your car can be difficult.

Taxi prices in Dagomys start from 100 rubles per trip (Parus taxi). However, if you are staying at the Dagomys health complex, then you can only call a taxi service 777 there, the cost of the trip is from 150 rubles.

Rent a car in Dagomys

If you come to Dagomys by plane or train and want to see the sights not only in the city itself, but also in Greater Sochi, it makes sense to rent a car. As practice has shown, despite the cost of rent (on average, from 1,500 rubles per day), for fidgets like me this is the most profitable.

It is best to rent a car through the service Myrentacar, which has established itself as a reliable service provider. The risk of running into a low-quality car at an inflated price is minimal here.

Sights of Dagomys

You won't find any special attractions in the village itself. However, there are picturesque corners that are interesting to see:

• “Dagomys Venice” - boathouses and houses on stilts along the Dagomys River,
• A suspension bridge over the Dagomys River, more than 100 years old, offering a beautiful view of Mount Uspenka,
• Temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God (Armavirskaya St., 141/4).

If possible, go up to the top floor of the Dagomys complex - from there you can see beautiful panoramas of the entire village and the hills around it. And be sure to take a walk through Dagomys Park, where there are many nice corners and interesting plants.

Excursions from Dagomys

Numerous excursions around the surrounding area, trips to Sochi and day excursions to Abkhazia are organized from Dagomys. Therefore, if you are not a fan of beach holidays, then you can go to various attractions. Sightseeing buses and private guides will easily pick you up from Dagomys and bring you back after the end of the excursion.

When is the best time to go to Dagomys?

In summer it is very hot in Dagomys. In addition, when the water in the sea warms up above +25 degrees, there is a danger of contracting a rotavirus infection. Children are especially susceptible to it and have a hard time bearing it.

As September approaches, the nights become colder and the daytime temperatures are also lower. In my opinion, it is best to go during the “velvet season”, which begins around September 10 and lasts until the end of the month (of course, it does not happen year after year).

In general, if your goal is only to sunbathe and swim in the sea, then it is better to go in the summer, but if you want not only to swim, but also to see the sights, choose September.

There are many shops and shops in Dagomys for every taste. Many of them are concentrated on Armavir Street, which runs almost parallel to the Dagomys River towards the sea, on Letnaya Street (stretches along the railway) and on the Batumi Highway.

In the village you can buy seasonal fresh fruits, churchkhela, local wine, chacha. There are several specialized stores that sell Krasnodar tea- black, green, with herbs. True, Krasnodar tea is not for everybody. For example, I really liked it, but my parents did not appreciate it.

Tourism and rest.

In the middle reaches of the Western Dagomys River, nine kilometers from the village of Dagomys, there is a natural monument “Koryta”.

Thanks to this, numerous baths, ledges, ridges and depressions were formed, which in their shape resemble stone troughs. The banks of the “Koryta” are surrounded by chestnuts, beeches and boxwoods.

From the Canyon observation deck you can see a beautiful view of the Western Dagomys River and the canyon itself. The depth of this canyon is about 20 meters.

Dagomys(Kuban) is a mountain river located in the North Caucasus and flows into the Black Sea. In the center of the village, Dagomys merges from two rivers: Western Dagomys and Eastern Dagomys.
