Boston photo gallery. Journey to Boston - a piece of England in North America Boston photos

Boston is one of oldest cities in the usa and was founded in 1630. Until the middle of the 18th century, it was a major city of the British colony in America.

What is Boston? The capital of Massachusetts, the cradle of the American Revolution. This is where Harvard University is located and where Facebook was born.

The local architecture differs markedly from that which can be found in the rest of the country. And also this one of the most beautiful American cities. Boston is a piece of England in North America.

Travel to Boston can be started from New York by train. This is only 3.5 hours on the way along the most picturesque coast of the eastern United States. I arrived, and did not believe my eyes - after all this is not America, this is real Europe!

In the Boston area are 2 very important educational institutions- the first American university - "Harvard University" and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Harvard has given the world a lot of politicians (8 US presidents graduated from Harvard), and MIT is one of the leaders in driving modern technologies, from architecture to the Internet.

It's like London, Amsterdam, whatever. But not to America:

The style is undefined... although the metal balconies and parts of the facades are reminiscent of New York's Soho:

Especially in such old houses:

Eternal war of conservatism and advanced technologies. In the very center of the city there are 2 buildings, one of which was built by a Harvard graduate, and the second by an MIT graduate:

I haven't been to London yet, but for some reason I imagine it to be like that. I really like metal American balconies:

One of the local attractions office and shopping center Prudential(228 meters high). I know this brand (Prudential) from Kurt Eichenwald's book Wall Street Sandcastles, where the insurance company of the same name deceived tens of thousands of people out of billions of dollars. I do not rule out that this is her office

One of the most beautiful parts of Boston - Beacon Hill. A real piece of England and ancient Europe in modern America:

Everything here is reminiscent of European cities, from lanterns and doors to roof coverings. It's hard to believe this is the USA:

Only American cars spoil the landscape. True, in Boston, most cars are European or Japanese.

Here are the most expensive apartments in the city. From 3 million dollars. And you say that housing in Moscow is expensive!

IN financial center, as always, skyscrapers:

Old City Hall I was pleased with a chic restaurant in which ancient interiors, coupled with excellent cuisine, make an indelible impression on guests:

You should definitely ride around the city on such authentic buses. There are many routes of various directions, choose to your taste:

Returning to the food... it's just SUPER here! Boston is home to the finest Legal Seafoods in the United States. They are all over the country, but it is in Boston that they serve tastier food.

Almost castle French architecture:

Boston waterfront today has become one of the most fashionable places in the city:

Old marinas and docks are gradually being demolished, giving way to expensive housing and restaurants:

I understand well those who live here. The views are amazing!

Old port warehouses(Boston was America's largest seaport for a long time) are successfully converted into expensive lofts and townhouses:

Float Collection:

View from the port to the coastline of the new part of the city:

Joyful old ladies! The right one is very reminiscent of Shapoklyak!

City Park. Previously, livestock grazed here, but now the townspeople are resting. Well, proteins, of which there are a myriad of in the USA:

The frog sculptures in the park are amazing! One Rodin's The Thinker is worth something. And the second will soon shout "IDE":

There are many monuments in the city, and not only to frogs. So Washington got a small one:

Well, doesn't it really look like France, Belgium and Holland at once?

Tourists are transported not only on buses, but also on such amphibious “ducklings”, which allow them to swim across small canals and rivers:

The weather is sometimes almost London too...

It seems that every resident has a yacht or a boat here:

On "sunset cruises" go such boats, noticeably battered by life. True, they sell hot coffee and tea on board:

For some reason, the new development of Boston reminded me of . Apartment overlooking the ocean... what could be better?

Old part of the city from the water also opens in an unexpected perspective. Boats complete the picture. Only very wealthy Bostonians can afford to live in such a house on the coast:

The farthest point of the cruise becomes this picturesque lighthouse, featured in most of the "official" photographs of Boston landmarks:

On the way back to the port, we just find the sunset for which this walk is organized.

And it's 100% worth it!

The legendary USS Constitution stands in the port. Tour guides say that the oldest sailing ship in the world(built since 1797), which is still listed in the combat composition of the US Army fleet:

It seems that here every child from the age of 12 sails on his own

Boston subway does not work around the clock, like New York, but here it is much cleaner and more pleasant. Armchairs made of granite even hint at some kind of design:

Water, water, water all around. It is most interesting to photograph Boston at night from the water:

This bridge is in all tourist photos from Boston. Especially beautiful at night

central part, view from the Italian quarter:

And the final photo of Boston - night fountains:

A symbol of freedom, a forge of professionals and an important tourist center in the United States - all this is about Boston. It was here that the flames of the American Revolution flared up, as a result of which one of the most powerful and prosperous states in the world was formed. From the walls of the famous Harvard University came out outstanding people who turned the world of technology. Therefore, Boston really has something to be proud of.

In addition to the glorious past, the city can offer tourists an equally valuable and interesting present. Boston is constantly becoming a venue for music festivals and grandiose sporting events on a national scale. Even a simple walk among the greenery of the Public Garden or the Arnold Arboretum will leave travelers with pleasant memories.

A full-fledged park appeared here only at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Arboretum is located in a suburb of Boston. It was created by the architect and landscape designer F.L. Olmsted. The composition of six glass towers was erected in 1995 to commemorate the Jews who died during World War II. The first two designs succumbed to the hurricanes of 1804 and 1954.

The building was erected in 1877 on Kopley Square. Previously, there were swamps here, but gradually they were covered with gravel and the construction of a residential area began. The temple was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1907.

Boston is one of the most successful and richest cities in the US, but this is not what makes it so popular and famous. The fact is that, being one of the oldest cities in the country, it played a special role in the development of the entire American continent. Moreover, it is more reminiscent of not a bustling American metropolis, but a sophisticated European city that simply fascinates with its special beauty and unique atmosphere.

As a result, large denominations, which include banknotes of $ 50 and above, cause a wary attitude. Therefore, if you are asked for an identity card when paying with large bills, you don’t need to be offended - this is the generally accepted norm here. In addition, a paradox, but not all US residents are aware that they have $ 2 bills. They were issued in a very small circulation, and therefore, such a bill may not be accepted and even the police may be called.

Dear friends, I want to tell you about another beautiful city in the USA - Boston. Another "must-see" city on the East Coast. Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and one of the oldest and richest cities in the United States. A little over 600 thousand people live in the city (that is, the city itself is not very large), but Boston is the center of an agglomeration with a population of about 6 million people.
It is worth noting that the Boston agglomeration is the 12th in the world in terms of GDP. But, let's talk about everything in order.

Boston was founded in 1630 by colonists. Literally within a few years, the first English-speaking school in America and the first college, Harvard, were opened in the city (there will be a separate post about it). For almost a century, Boston was the largest city in British America, but it lost the palm to the rapidly developing New York.

J. Carwitham (active 1720-1740), after an unknown artist- Yale Center for British Art

In the 1770s, the British authorities tried to increase taxes and strengthen their power over 13 colonies, as a result of which the War of Independence began (remember, we talked about Franklin's statements in Albany). Faneuil Hall 1740 (sometimes called the "Cradle of Liberty").

Faneuil Hall sketch by J. Smybert, 1740

In Boston, everything went much more radically - on December 16, 1773, part of the colonists disguised themselves as Indians and, having penetrated English merchant ships, threw out a cargo of tea in protest against the imposition of a tax on the tea trade, these events were called the Boston Tea Party.

It is logical that the British government responded with repressions and local "titushki". As a result, discontent began in the city, which a few years later grew into the American Revolution. In 1775, it was from the "self-defense" of Boston that the first military units of the American army were formed under the leadership of George Washington. Some Americans call Boston - the Motherland of the States, paying tribute to its historical role in the creation of the State Independent from England.
After the war, Boston became one of the world's largest trading ports. During the abolition of slavery, the city becomes the center of this movement. In parallel, industry develops in the city, the city becomes the center of the leather and clothing industry.

Boston Public Library

Thanks to the port - Boston has become one of the main buffers for receiving immigration to the United States. Most of the immigrants who arrived were: Irish, Germans, Italians, Polish and Russian Jews. It was they who influenced the appearance of the city and its culture, religion (the Catholic community became the largest in the city). By the way, the famous Kennedy family are descendants of Irish settlers. At the beginning and middle of the 20th century, the city went through several stages of crisis. The local industry does not keep up with modern development and is slowly “curving”. The labor force is leaving for other cities.
The authorities of the city chose new ways of development for a long time and as a result were able to attract investments. Interest in the city began to grow again (an important role in this was played by the presence of several "powerful" universities). And by the beginning of the 21st century, Boston has again become the intellectual, technological, political and business center of the United States and the world.
Well, let's take a walk through the streets of this pleasant city.

There are many different churches in the city.

The architecture of the city has mixed styles, due to the many "indigenous" cultures.

And this mixture is almost the main highlight of the city.

Pleasant streets. Arranging morning runs along such streets is the most it!

Synagogue. As mentioned above, there are a sufficient number of Jews in the city - immigrants from the Russian Empire.

As you can see, parking lots are arranged quite wisely. And do not interfere with pedestrians or vehicles.

Very beautiful buildings! Absolutely love the style of the city.

Buildings of one of the universities. As mentioned above, the city can be called a student city.

How beautifully everything is done, definitely a good city.

Bike lanes between campuses. And notice - on the right - a stand with a "guide" on the territory of the university!

One of the buildings of Northeastern University.

What do you think - what are the tall buildings in the distance? It's DOMS!! Dorms yo-mine!! They are reconstructed so that nothing offends students. These are not our campuses with the janitor Mikhalych.

Squirrels live on campus))

A typical view of Boston streets.

Fire Department.

Memorial in honor of John Boyle O "Reilly.

Boston swamps ;)

On the Downtown skyline.

Outskirts of the RedSox stadium. Once again were in the area after the match - people are really fanatic. By the way, I don’t know how funny the names of our sports teams are to foreigners, but in the USA it’s darkness. Imagine if there was a football team in Kyiv - Red Socks!! I hear these fan charges - "Forward, Socks, we are with you!") Only Socks, only Victory)))

Streets of Boston.

Notice the mixture of architectural styles - it's even tougher than in Albany.

A row of American-style houses.

Under the Prudential Tower. The 2nd largest building in Boston.

Inside the skyscrapers there is a chic courtyard where you can lie on the grass and think about the high.

It is worth noting that this complex is a network of "skyscrapers" and office buildings, which are interconnected by a knife of covered galleries.

At the exit from the complex, a mixture of styles awaited us again.

Boston Public Library.

Church

The Boston Public Library is a modern building.

Look at this mixture of architectural solutions! Definitely left building is out of the question. In this case, it does not add charm to the city.

But this view - already adds zest.

Look at the building levels. All of Boston is in it. Wild mix of styles! Crazy about her ... In the background - the tallest building in Boston.

We enter the square in the city center.

An interesting fountain in the center of the square - children bathe right in it! Good summer!

The view from the park is amazing!

How do you like the fusion of eras? I bet this is awesome!

I really like this one, Boston's own style. Thanks to the Irish, Italians, Germans who mixed their styles in this city!

Typical American building of the mid-20th century.

It is impossible, of course, without a fly in the ointment - the lanes are not the cleanest. Although this is considered side of buildings. On the other hand, it could be much dirtier!

Slowly we made our way to Central Park. This is an incredibly beautiful place. It cannot be compared to New York's Central Park. He is different! No less beautiful.

Children play with pigeons and ducks. Notice the birds are absolutely not afraid of people.

A person calmly relaxes on the shore of a reservoir! Pay attention - how clean.

Beautiful "bows" of the park.

Perfectly trimmed lawn. In the US, most lawns can be rested without problems. Unfortunately, this culture is not instilled in us. It is interesting to watch clerks and managers who go out to the park at lunchtime with "brakes" and lie down on the grass by the lake and jam sandwiches.

Boats and gondolas float around the park.

Notice how clean! Truly - clean, where they do not litter ..

Fountain in the park.

Oh, our old friend :))) We saw a similar boat in Albany))

Gradually, fog descended on the city, it was getting dark.

We decided to see Chinatown and eat there at the same time.

Surprisingly, there is even Chinatown in Boston, some kind of Irish))

The food turned out to be quite tolerable, even tasty. After lunch, we continued on to the city.

Central streets of Boston.

The rain is receding! Hooray!

The sun is back in touch..

After reviewing the city center, we went to change clothes, as we still got caught in the rain. And in the evening we went to the old city for dinner! Highly recommend to everyone, there are very cool restaurants!

Stay in touch!
