General's beaches or 'Coast of a thousand bays'. Regional Landscape Park "General's Beaches"

Good afternoon friends! And again we visited the Crimea this summer. And again in its different places and towns. BUT the review will be about the wild beaches of Crimea, the so-called "general's beaches or the coast of 1000 bays." It was this amazing place that left an indelible impression in the memory and in the soul, and the beauty of nature fascinated. The beaches are still little visited, which pleases, because it is quite clean and deserted. Located north of the city of Kerch on the Sea of Azov. First, we move through the Karalar steppe along a broken asphalt road, then a more difficult path begins along the seashore. Paradise beaches are located between the villages of Kurortnoe and Zolotoe - choose any one that your heart desires, you just need to drive carefully - stones and potholes are everywhere. There are beaches that cannot be reached by car, only on foot. They look like cozy coves. In such places it's good to sit alone, think about the eternal :-)
An interesting place that I would like to note is the pink lake Chokrak next to the sea. It is separated from the sea by a thin strip of land. If you climb the hills, you will see a wonderful view of the blue expanse of the Sea of Azov and the pink lake from above.
The beaches themselves are beautiful at any time of the day and at sunset and during the day. These are untouched natural pearls of Crimea. I really want to keep it that way. The coast is covered with snow-white shells and fine, like flour, sand. The places are magical. We stopped so that there was a small rock behind our camp, covering us from the wind and the steppe itself. The sea stretched ahead. We were lucky - all the days it was calm, the bottom was visible through and through, although Azov is not a very transparent sea. As a result, the photos turned out to be very colorful.
Seagulls constantly watched us, and we followed them. Crabs constantly crawled on the rolling pins and stones of the beach. All day long we only swam, cooked, sunbathed, dreamed. There is no firewood, of course, so we had a gas stove. An awning was saved from the sun. The life in these places is incredible. Once a green grasshopper came to visit and without hesitation chewed the dryers so loudly that a rattle was heard))) And then he climbed into a mug with the rest of the tea and refreshed himself with it. And at the top, when we walked across the steppe, everything around was goading, as well as many huge spiders in the rocks. We also saw a viper peacefully curled up in the stones. But everyone was minding their own business, nothing terrible happened. We were careful. Conclusion: if you do not disturb anyone, and you will not be touched. In such places you feel complete harmony with nature, being a part of it. Everything happens by itself. That is why you want to come back here again - for the stars at night, for the light breeze in the morning, for the chirping of birds, for the chirping of insects ... Over the sea and incredible sunsets. For the feeling of freedom. You just need to treat such beauty with gratitude, cherish it and appreciate it.
Thank you for your attention.

Only in the steppe itself, far from the beaches, you can meet the steppe viper - to prevent this from happening, you should not go into the tall grass. For tourists observing this rule, rest in the Crimea, namely in the park "General's Beaches" - the famous sights of Crimea, becomes absolutely safe and brings only positive emotions.

From 1947 to 1972 on the territory of the Karalar steppe, a military training ground for air support of the USSR Air Force was based. The territory was closed to the public, but the highest military ranks often rested in the picturesque bays, hence the name "General's Beaches".
The concept of "General's Beaches" appeared when neither the military camp nor the generals were there anymore.

Coastal waters off the coast of General's beaches are rich in fish. There is a fishing artel in the Shirokaya Bay. Fanciful rocks, mysterious grottoes attract lovers of spearfishing.
It is wonderful to spend time on the shores of a picturesque bay every year preferred by many tourists who come to rest in the Crimea. Recreation centers by the sea in Kurortny are especially attracted by the General's beaches. The place is popular with campers. A dirt road leads along the coast of the General beaches, which has a descent to each of them.
You can independently get to the General's beaches by car from the villages of Kurortnoe and Zolotoe or from Bagerovo, through the former territory of the airfield.
When choosing a trip to these parts in a low-slung car, you need to keep in mind that the road there is unpaved and some difficulties may arise along the way. But local residents have already adapted to their roads and easily drive around them in domestic cars.

In 1988, the Kalaral Reserve was created on this territory.

There are a lot of such interesting insects in the steppe as praying mantis, cicada, swallowtail. Arachnologists often find dangerous arachnids - salpuga, karakurt and tarantula. As the fishermen say, in the General Bay, the coastal shallow waters are still rich in marine life, this is the spawning area for flounder, gobies, anchovy, feeding of sturgeon, mullet, pike perch, pilengas and other fish.

Endless sandy beaches, warm sea, clean, ionized air will give you exceptionally bright and positive emotions about your vacation in Kurortny.

So far, the ecology of tourism is seriously “lame” in our country and the consumer attitude towards the still wild nature is flourishing.
Don't like the trash at your outdoor recreation site? Don't quit yourself and don't give to others.

General's beaches in Kerch are also called the "Coast of a Thousand Bays". This is a vast territory, which is indented with dozens of small coves and bays, it has preserved the original beauty of nature and purity. These are not places for mass recreation. General's beaches are chosen by tourists who love solitude and a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle. The bays on the beaches are closed, different in size, but distinguished by amazing beauty and picturesque views.

This secluded corner of tranquility is located on the shores of the Sea of Azov, not far from the village of Kurortnoye, just in the middle between Capes Zyuk and Kazantip. The line of beaches starts from Lake Chokrak and stretches to the village of Zolote. The total distance is over 30 kilometers.

The beauty of the beach

Getting to the General beaches is not difficult. Between the villages of Zolotoe and Kurortnoye, a dirt road is laid, not a bad one, along it you can easily get to any bay you like. If you drive a car along the Feodosia-Kerch highway, then you should turn towards Novonikolaevka.

From Kerch, you can get to the beaches directly from the railway station, the distance from the city to the village of Kurortnoye is 16 kilometers.

Shuttle buses run regularly. In the event that it is decided to get to the place by car, it is better to use an SUV.

Despite the extravagant name, on these wild Kerch beaches, you will meet by no means, not the military, but lonely tourists who dream of solitude.

In Soviet times, everything was just the opposite. From 1947 to 1972, the “Coast of a Thousand Bays” was considered a closed zone; a military training ground with an airfield was located in this picturesque place.

Only military personnel had access to these beaches, the territory was strictly guarded. The stunning beauty of the coastline was considered a place of rest for the highest command staff. Marshals and generals often sat with a fishing rod for hours on the shore, some quiet bay. There was a rumor about the famous beaches among the local population, and then this place got its “solemn” name.

Territory

If we talk about the natural origin of the General's beaches, then the territory on which they are located is unique. The Kalaral Reserve was established in 1988 and later acquired the status of a natural park.

Kalaral Reserve

Ecologists say that this is the only place in the Crimea where the so-called pripontian steppes have been preserved. Such fescue and feather grass areas in Europe no longer have analogues, and nature is in its pristine state, precisely due to the fact that the Soviet troops based in the area of the reserve did not give anyone access to this protected area. Scientists still find ancient burial mounds in the district until now.

On the video - what the general's beach in Kerch looks like:

Holidaymakers General's beaches are attracted by the fact that this is one of the few places on the Azov coast that has practically not been touched by civilization. Azure water, clean coastline, small caves with arched vaults, grottoes of various sizes - all this nature has been creating for thousands of years, and so far they have managed to save it all.

Each corner of the beach has its own name. There is Joy Bay and Wanderer Bay, Soldiers Beach and Badger Bay.

The conditions for relaxation in this oasis of wildlife are ideal. The swimming season can be opened already in May, the Sea of Azov is warmer than the Black Sea, and the water in small bays, all the more, warms up very quickly. Fanciful picturesque rocks create comfortable conditions for solitude.

If desired, tourists can put up a tent and do not intersect with neighbors throughout the vacation. The main condition, given the remoteness of the beach from settlements, for a comfortable stay, it is necessary to make supplies of fresh water, food and fuel.

For vacationers

The underwater grottoes of the General's Beaches are a mecca for lovers of spearfishing and diving. Photo lovers can not part with the equipment for days. The pictures come out amazing.

Underwater grottoes

Picturesque southern nature is complemented by bizarre forms of rocks, some of which, thanks to the art of wind, water and sun, resemble gigantic figures of fantastic animals.

Increasingly, Kerch secluded beaches are chosen for recreation by couples with children. Toddlers can safely splash in the shallow water and play with the fancy shells that the waves wash ashore.

Outdoor enthusiasts bring boats with them and go on a mini-trip to the nearest bays. Fishermen usually brag about their rich catch, local waters are rich in mullet, pike perch, flounder and gobies. Locals are happy to rent skiffs or fishing tackle and even conduct tours of the surrounding area, showing the ancient burial mounds.

Kayaking in the bay

There are no familiar entertainments that can be found in abundance in popular resort areas on the General's beaches, but such an ideal outdoor recreation as here cannot be found anywhere else. Well, everyday inconveniences can be compensated by vivid emotions, colorful impressions and excellent health.

The pearl of the Sea of Azov can safely be called General's beaches. They are located in close proximity to Kerch and are popular not only with local residents, but also with tourists who come to relax on the Crimean peninsula in search of protected places. Once they have visited these places, they are no longer looking for the best. Very often you can hear how this resort area is called Russian Thailand or the coast of 1000 bays.

More about the area

The coastline of the beaches is part of the Karalar Reserve. It miraculously preserved samples of fescue-feather grass steppes. They have no analogues in Europe. These places attract tourists with their pristine beauty. They are great for recreation, which is commonly called "wild" among the people.

Clean sea air, saturated with the aroma of herbs of the steppe, silence and the absence of signs of civilization - that's all that attracts people here every year with the onset of summer from different parts of the world. In some of the local bays you can find sources of clean water. As a rule, by July they dry up, so you need to go on vacation to these beaches with a large supply of drink and firewood for making a fire, on which you will have to cook your own food.

For tens of kilometers around the General's beaches, there is a steppe, which is commonly called the Pontic steppe. At first glance, it seems deserted, but it is not so. You can meet in it not only harmless butterflies, dragonflies or lizards, but also dangerous snakes for humans - four-lane snakes. The steppe viper is also found in it.

An unpleasant meeting can also take place with poisonous spiders - Karakuts, tarantulas, salpugs and even scolopendra. Their favorite hiding places are rock crevices and large rocks.

Interesting Facts:
The depth of the sea in the area of the coastline of the bays is small, the entrance to it is gentle. Shallow water makes the water warm well in the sun, so the beach season starts here in May and ends in October.

Features of flora and fauna

Some parts of the beach have freshwater springs. Unfortunately, at the end of summer they dry up, but in spring they are filled with exceptionally clean and healthy water. The sea water washing the shores warms up quite quickly, so it is possible to swim in it already in April.

Do not forget about the local fauna. There are snakes in the Sea of Azov, and although they are not dangerous, and even more so not deadly poisonous, meeting with them will not bring much joy. But snakes on land can already cause health problems, as well as scolopendra and tarantula. Therefore, you should exercise minimal caution and look under your feet so as not to inadvertently meet with representatives of the Crimean exotic.

History of the General beaches

Until 1972, the coastline between the legendary Cape Kazantip and the hero city of Kerch was under the control of the military. The territory of the beach was part of the territory on which a special garrison was located in this area. At the garrison training ground there was equipment that ensured the safety of aerial tests of nuclear weapons. It was impossible to enter the territory of the beaches without a special pass and the appropriate level of clearance.

The picturesque shores of the sandy bays were accessible only to the local senior officers and generals. This is where the name "General's" came from. Today they are considered the best wild beaches of the Crimean peninsula. Their territory was included in the Kalaral Reserve in 1988.

Perhaps it will be interesting:
Walking in the vicinity of the bays, you can stumble upon the ruins of an unfinished nuclear power plant. Its construction was frozen back in Soviet times.

What are the general's beaches today?

Bays convenient for recreation are located at a distance of 12 km from Kerch. According to various estimates, their length ranges from 26 to 30 km. Such a distance of the coastline led to the fact that various parts of the beach became part of 3 rural settlements. They were Bagerovo, Belinsky and Chistopolye.

Each bay, which is part of the coastline of beaches, has its own name. These places are visited not only by tourists, but also by fishermen. There is a fishing artel in Shirokaya Bay. Their nets in these places catch not only sprat and Azov goby, but also pilengas. You can also catch the latter on spinning. The role of bait on his hook is performed by a sea worm, which the locals dig out in the region of Rotten Creek.

The advantage of rest in the area of the bays is the sandy shore and a flat seabed. The temperature of the Sea of Azov is always 2-3 degrees higher than in the Black Sea.

How to get to the general's beaches on the map?

The bays can only be reached by a dirt road. There are very broken sections and steep descents on it, so the only right choice of transport is a car with all-wheel drive and high ground clearance.

You can not get to the beaches by public transport! Since there are no communications and infrastructure in the north of the peninsula, the only way to get to the cherished beaches is by car, personal or passing.

You can also test yourself and walk to the coast on foot. This can be done in three ways: from the Kurortny village, from the opposite side of the coast through the Golden Village, and also through Bagerovo. In this case, you need to pass what is left of the airfield and the runway, behind which there is a road leading to the destination.
