Error when filling in the passport data in the ticket. Ticket error. What to do? Inaccurate series or passport number

You made a seal when booking or buying an e-ticket, the cashier at the station made a mistake, or a friend took a ticket for you and incorrectly named your middle name ... Such situations are not at all uncommon. Is it possible to reissue an electronic ticket, board a train on a ticket with a mistake in the last name, what to do and how to correct the situation?

  1. It is not possible to "simply reissue" a ticket. You can turn it in and get a new one. But until your freed space gets into the system, time will pass. And immediately after that, the place can be bought by anyone from anywhere in the country. Catching him again is almost impossible. If there are other empty seats on your train - great, then you can just return the train ticket and take another one for an empty seat. It is more difficult if there are no places or few.
  2. You can board the train on a ticket with a typo in your personal data. But only if you do not cross the Russian border. “In case of minor discrepancies between the data of the passenger’s identity document and the data indicated in the travel document ( no more than one letter in the surname, initials and no more than one digit in the number), a passenger is allowed to board a passenger train” (telegram of Russian Railways OJSC No. 3/311 dated 05.10.2005 (TsLDV-2-59)).
  3. If you cross the border, the ticket must be changed. According to the rules of Russian Railways, you cannot board an international train with a ticket that contains errors or typographical errors. In fact, this is insurance against troubles with border and customs services.
  4. You can return a train ticket with errors. If the number of discrepancies with the documents is more than allowed, you can return the ticket (and it will be accepted from you, although formally it does not correspond to the documents of the dealer). You will have to go to the ticket office at the station, write a corresponding application. The money will be given in cash or returned to the account, depending on how you bought the ticket.
  5. ALWAYS immediately check all the data on the ticket. Regardless of the place and method of purchase. This will take about one minute, and the inconvenience caused by undetected errors is much more.

If you are applying, check the last name, first name and patronymic (often mistakes happen here) and the number of the birth certificate or passport. If there are errors in more than one letter and number, alas, the ticket must be returned and a new one taken.

Problematic moments in case of an error in the Russian Railways electronic ticket

  • It will not work to issue a completely incorrect middle name for a typo.
  • The error in the date is not corrected. You can't "just replace" a train ticket. More about here.
  • If you are in another country (including Ukraine) at the box office at the station and immediately notice a typo, ask the cashier to draw up an act stating that the mistake was made through the fault of the railway. Then it will be possible to avoid unnecessary questions and ticket replacement (especially since there may not be other free seats). Or the erroneous ticket will be canceled and the correct ticket issued instead.
  • Responsibility always lies with you (except when a typo is discovered immediately when buying a ticket at the box office). If you buy a ticket via the Internet, you enter the data yourself. If you buy a ticket at the box office using your passport, you must check that all personal data on it is correct. This is warned by signs on bulletin boards at all stations, near most ticket offices and the corresponding paragraph in the rules for transporting passengers.

The information is for reference only, it is better to check the details with the carrier (in Russia - Russian Railways).

A completely stupid situation happened: I bought an electronic ticket from the Ak-Bars Aero airline and made a mistake in the passport number: I accidentally swapped two digits, instead of "01" I wrote "10". I noticed, of course, when after the payment I received an itinerary receipt. I immediately called the airline. I must say that they answered me right away, and the girl was polite, who really sincerely tried to help, but the situation was complicated by the fact that the airline's office is located in Tatarstan, and I am in Moscow, and it is impossible to reissue a ticket at the office.

I was given the phone number of a company representative in Moscow. I called and he told me that it all depends on the SABs (Domodedovo Airport), whether they decide to pass or not, the airlines de-no matter. Gave the number of subs. I called, on that number they said (the girl was also very polite) that they can only advise on issues of transporting weapons and recommended contacting the airport information desk.

I called the airport information desk. There I was told that the decision in such cases is made by the airline, and that I need to call them.

I (already giggling) called the airline again.
The girl who spoke to me was very surprised that my information was so different from hers. I tried to get someone from the authorities, but, apparently, I could not, so I never received a clear answer to the question of whether they would let me in. Say, it seems like it's not fatal, but who knows what's going to hit someone where.

Then I asked about reissuing the ticket. I was told that it is impossible to reissue it, you can only hand it over. To do this, you need to download the application form on the site. The application states "Application for voluntary refusal of transportation", which may entail fines that you do not want to pay.

Paragraph 69 says that if the ticket is incorrectly issued, the carrier must make every effort to establish the fact that a contract of carriage has been concluded, and if it has actually been concluded, the passenger is accepted for carriage.

Paragraph 78 says that a passenger with a properly issued ticket is accepted for check-in. I don't know how this fits in with clause 69. This probably means that they must establish the fact of the conclusion of the contract and issue a new ticket.

Paragraph 227 says that the passenger has the right to be forced to refuse transportation if the ticket is incorrectly issued by the carrier or agent.

In this regard, I have questions:

1. How important - in experience or in accordance with existing regulations - is an unmistakably written passport number? What is the probability that I will be safely allowed on the plane without paying attention to it? The flight is internal. There is an opinion that up to three errors are allowed in the full name, but information is widespread on the network that this applies specifically to the first name and surname, and not to the number of the identity card.

2. If the passport number is critical: if I arrive at the airport with the wrong ticket, the card used to pay for it, a bank statement confirming the transfer of funds from the airline, confirmation of payment that came to my e-mail, etc., will they be able to to reissue a ticket at the airport, given that there is apparently no full-fledged office of the airline there?

3. If it is impossible to reissue a ticket, can an incorrect passport number that cannot be changed be considered "incorrect ticket issuance by the carrier" (I understand that I entered it myself, but all of a sudden), on the basis of which it is possible to demand an involuntary refusal of transportation?

If someone knows the answers to questions or experienced similar experiences, I would be grateful for the info. Of course, I am terribly ashamed that I bought electronic tickets so many times, and then messed up with numbers, but something needs to be done.

The form of an electronic railway ticket was approved by order of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated August 21, 2012 No. 322. It indicates:

  • FULL NAME. passenger, his passport data;
  • train number, date/time of its departure and arrival;
  • names of stations of departure and destination;
  • wagon class;
  • place number;
  • freight cost, etc.

You must not make mistakes when issuing an electronic ticket, since it is impossible to correct them after payment. Such information is indicated on the official website of the Russian Railways. In the same place, the carrier indicated that if there are errors in personal or passport data, the passenger will not be able to receive a boarding pass at the box office and board the train.

Since the electronic ticket is issued by the passenger, he is solely responsible for incorrectly entered data.

How to correct an error if I mixed up the first and last name in an electronic ticket?

According to the telegram of Russian Railways OJSC dated 05.10.2005 No. 3/311 (TSLDV-2-59):

  1. A passenger is allowed to board the train if there are no more than 2 errors in the data proving his identity.
  2. This rule works for trains traveling within our country and some others (CIS, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia).

In all other cases, the passenger will have to renew the e-ticket.

Simply reissuing a ticket will not work - you will have to hand over an incorrectly issued one (cancel the contract of carriage) and issue a new travel document. This is done through a personal account on the official website of Russian Railways or at the box office.

According to paragraphs. 85, 86, 87 of the Rules, approved. by order of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated December 19, 2013 No. 473:

  • the full cost of the ticket is refunded if the passenger returned the ticket no later than 8 hours before the train departure;
  • the cost of the ticket and 50% of the reserved seat is returned to the passenger who returned the ticket less than 8 hours, but earlier than 2 hours before the train departure;
  • if the ticket is returned less than 2 hours before the departure of the train, the passenger has the right to receive only the cost of the ticket without the cost of the reserved seat and service charges.

At the same time, according to clause 88 of the above Rules, the carrier has the right to charge a fee for issuing a refund on an unused ticket.

So, if the passenger failed to avoid errors in the electronic ticket, then he will be solely responsible for this.

The internal act of Russian Railways allows minor errors - no more than two - in information related to the identity of the passenger. More errors or errors in other data must be corrected, otherwise the passenger will not get into the car. To do this, an incorrectly issued ticket is surrendered and a new one is issued.

It often happens that a person makes mistakes in the ticket when issuing, especially if this is done through the site. Let's talk about how many typos are allowed and what to do in each of the options. After all, you can enter the wrong letter or number anywhere in the document, and in each of the situations this will lead to different consequences.

Today, more and more travelers use electronic check-in and ticketing systems. Thus, you can carry out the procedure without even leaving your home or work office. And when using ready-made forms, it takes a few minutes at all. But it is precisely this ease and accessibility that leads to a lot of typos made when filling out.

How many errors are allowed on the ticket?

Travelers often say that the presence of 1-3 inaccuracies in the indication of passport data on an electronic document does not lead to serious consequences. But the main difference is whether you are flying within the Russian Federation or going abroad, as well as in the selected carriers. Some of them are quite strict about filling in personal data when processing documents.

Therefore, initially it is worth asking what are the rules in the company whose services you want to use. And although the unspoken “rule of three mistakes” often works, serious problems can arise with some typos. Then you will either not be allowed on the plane, or you will be forced to pay a large fine.

What to do?

Depending on what kind of mistake was made and where you drew up the document, the measures taken to eliminate it also differ. If this is a carrier's website or a special electronic system for booking tickets, then it is better to contact the operators on the hotline and ask what they can offer from the available actions to fix the problem.

On many such resources, there are personal accounts in which there is a separate button for editing the entered data. True, they often turn out to be paid. In each case, you should also consider which airline you booked the ticket with.

Some of them will not pay attention to typos, it is enough for them that the number and series of the passport, as well as the photo correspond to the real person providing the document. In other cases, you will have to pay a large amount for the error.

Types and consequences of errors

Most often, the severity of a typo depends on where it was made. The most common are:

  1. An error in the spelling of the first name, surname or patronymic, but not the first letter. In this case, the problem may lie both in the incorrect spelling of any of the words, and in changing their correct sequence. Such a typo rarely leads to problems, especially if the flight takes place within our country. Most carriers won't even notice the inaccuracies. This often happens as a result of converting Cyrillic to Latin. Therefore, try to accurately indicate all the data by analogy with a passport.
  2. Much more serious is the problem of incorrect spelling of the first letter of the surname. After all, it is for her that they look for a passenger in the lists and more often they pay attention only to her. The typo in the first letter must be corrected, otherwise it threatens that you will not get on the plane.
  3. An error in the date of birth is less scary and problematic. And yet try to check these figures carefully too, because some airlines are strict in this regard. Usually, it will not be difficult to correct such an oversight by calling the operator in time.
  4. Incorrectly specified passport data (series and number) - in some cases this is considered a minor typo that is not worth attention, in others it will lead to the fact that it will be impossible to use the ticket or even make any corrections. Many airlines identify the passenger precisely from this data, and when providing a passport, they correct other typographical errors free of charge. It is better to ask in advance whether the operator will be able to make a remark and correct them if a mistake is made in the number or series of the passport.
  5. Date and time of the flight - here it is advisable to be especially careful and check the ticket several times. Very often, on the websites of carriers or electronic cash desks, the month of arrival is not the one that is needed. And if you make the slightest mistake here, then you will not be able to get on the plane. After all, they will not be able to check you in for a non-existent flight or put you on one on which you are not listed as a passenger. Any changes in this place are fraught with large fines, but more often you will have to buy another ticket.
  6. Gender and method of address is the most insignificant mistake that hardly anyone will pay attention to. You have indicated "Mrs" or "Mr" before your own name - this is of no interest to anyone. A person today has the right to consider himself a man or a woman, regardless of real status.

Each carrier has its own rules regarding the filling of tickets, errors made and how to edit them. Therefore, in a particular situation, it is advisable to contact the operators of a particular service and clarify this issue. In most cases, they will fix the problem by phone and free of charge. Although sometimes you will have to pay some kind of fine for this or resolve the issue on the spot, at the airport.

How to fix a typo?

Even a single letter typed incorrectly can lead to the fact that you will not get on your flight or you will have to pay double the price for the ticket. But there is no need to panic ahead of time. Try to find out exactly how you can fix the problem in an accessible way.

To do this, a few days before departure, you should carefully review the document and contact the appropriate service. Start fixing bugs a few days before registration, as this can take a long time.

There are such options for solving the problem:

  • Most often, a special remark is made in the electronic ticket, which indicates that a mistake was made at a certain place and it should be corrected.
  • In the most serious cases, you will have to change the document or buy it again. Experienced travelers even manage to find a great way out of such a situation and purchase a re-ticket at a reduced cost. Indeed, today there are many resources that hold sales for individual flights at certain hours or days.
  • When correcting an error in your personal account on the website or over the telephone line, sometimes you will have to pay a fine. It can be insignificant or reach almost the same cost of a new ticket. It all depends on the type of typographical error, their number, the time of contacting the support service and the rules of the particular carrier you are going to use.

How not to make a mistake?

It has been noticed that when issuing tickets online, people often make serious mistakes in their own names and surnames, as well as other passport data. And there are much more of them than when filling out documents at a standard ticket office, where a professional operator works. And although he has to write down other people's names, often complex and difficult to pronounce, the specialist almost does not make typos.

But if you want to book tickets on your own and do it at home, then you should follow these recommendations to reduce the risk of errors.

  1. On many Internet resources of this kind, there are personal accounts, you can only enter your data into them once, having previously checked them, and when filling out the document, they will automatically be pulled to the right place.
  2. Try to carefully review and check the ticket immediately after it is issued, and do it again a few days before departure in order to be able to correct everything in time.
  3. For help in correcting, always contact the agency that issued the document.
  4. Study the rules of the airline you are going to use, in order to know exactly what points you should pay special attention to.
  5. You can write your data in a text document on your computer and simply copy it when filling out forms.
  6. The most common mistake is to indicate the wrong month of arrival, so look at what exactly is displayed on the screen in a specific window.
  7. Take your time and carefully check each letter and number, it is better to spend a little more time initially than to be nervous and overpay for a minor mistake later.

Wrongly spelled the name, missed a letter in the surname, mixed up the name and surname in places? Such errors occur to tens of thousands of air passengers every year. Some airlines turn a blind eye to this, while others call it a serious problem, because of which you can not fly.

Ukraine's largest airline, UIA, has fairly strict rules regarding misspellings in first and last names. If a mistake is made that does not change the sound of the first / last name, but only lies in the transliteration features, the ticket can be reissued through the airline's cash desk or call center with a service fee of $ 50.

If a passenger mixed up the first and last names on the UIA ticket, this can be critical when departing from foreign airports, such as Beijing or Bangkok. Therefore, the airline recommends reissuing the ticket.

However, according to UIA passengers, they managed to fly with minor errors in the ticket without correcting them, but this concerned "non-strict" destinations, for example, to Europe.

corrects misprints in the first / last name free of charge, if their number does not exceed three. To do this, you need to call the low-cost call center no later than three hours before departure.

If the mistakes made significantly change the name / surname, then the air carrier charges a fee for changing the passenger's name, since such changes are not considered correcting typographical errors.

If the passenger changed their last name after purchasing the ticket (change of marital status), you must contact the customer service by filling out the Complaints section, or contact the call center.

Customer Service will contact the passenger and advise where to send the required document. In this case, 30 days are given to process the request and provide a letter with a response. If the passenger needs to resolve this issue earlier, it is worth contacting the airline's call center immediately.

If the passenger mixed up the name and surname, it is desirable to correct this mistake in order to avoid misunderstandings at the airport. To do this, you need to contact the call center of the airline. Because this correction is not considered a name change, it is done free of charge.

The airline Atlasglobal (Atlasjet), which recently launched flights on the Ukrainian market, allows no more than three spelling errors in the passenger's first and last name, provided that they do not change the sound completely. For example, if in the ticket Anastasiaa, and in the passport Anastasiia.

A passenger whose name and surname are mixed up in the booking will be accepted for carriage on the airline's flights. If the passenger has already arrived at the airport and noticed such an error, the airline representative at check-in will be able to correct the name and surname.

However, if errors are found in the ticket, Atlasglobal advises you to contact the ticket issuing agent or the airline's call center on 0 800 505 563 prior to arrival at the airport in order to correct the passenger's name / surname or make an appropriate note.

Alitalia allows passengers to officially correct, after paying a fee of 20 euros, the following errors in the issued ticket:

  • Wrong passenger gender MR/MRS
  • Error in spelling the first and last name (Misspelling) - up to 3 letters (Alexander - Aleksandr)
  • Permutation in the sequence Surname/Name
  • Change of surname in cases of marriage or divorce
  • Officially registered change of Surname/Name
  • Correction of the abbreviated name into the full one (Katya - Kateryna)

However, unofficially, the airline confirms the possibility of flying without changing the ticket and paying the fee in case of minor errors, for example, if the passenger’s gender is mixed up, the name and surname are changed in places, or no more than 3 typos are made in the name and surname that do not change the name.

Belavia has strict rules similar to UIA regarding mistakes in the name or surname on the ticket - they are not allowed. The exception is when a passenger travels on an internal passport, and the data is entered on the ticket in Latin letters. For example, instead of I, Y is erroneously indicated, instead of H - G, instead of KS - X.

The surname must appear first on the ticket, followed by the given name. In case of incorrect ticket issuance, the representative of the airline has the right not to accept the passenger for transportation.

An incorrectly issued ticket is subject to a refund with a fine, according to the fare rules. If a mistake was nevertheless made, the passenger can apply to the Belavia representative office in Kyiv, where each case will be considered on an individual basis.

Turkish Airlines, which has been receiving the title of the best airline in Europe for several years, does not penalize passengers for mistakes made when issuing tickets.

The air carrier is guided by international rules that allow up to three errors in the name or surname, if they do not distort the sound.

Also, the passenger will be able to fly if he mixed up the name and surname on the ticket. Turkish Airlines allows air travelers with this error to fly.

Air Astana is strict with errors in the first and last name on the ticket. The presence of errors is not allowed, however, if there are no more than three, the air carrier makes a correction to the ticket free of charge. To do this, you need to contact the agency where you bought the ticket, or the Air Astana representative office in Ukraine by e-mail [email protected] or phone + 38 044 390 73 68. The same should be done if the name and surname are reversed.

The airline notes that all changes must be made before the departure of the flight, because. at the airport, a mismatch of the first / last name in the transliteration ticket of the international passport may delay the check-in process.

Austrian Airlines and other airlines of the Lufthansa Group allow up to three errors in the name or surname on the ticket, if these errors do not significantly change the spelling / sound. In such cases, nothing needs to be changed.

You also don’t have to worry if the first and last name are mixed up in places on the ticket when flying in Europe. If the error is more significant, or if the surname and name are mixed up in places for a ticket to the USA / Canada, then the correction is made at the place of purchase of the ticket. There is no penalty in such cases, but a ticket reissue fee may apply. For example, for Ukraine it is $ 50, for Russia - 35 euros, for Belarus - 20 euros.

However, passengers managed to successfully fly to America, having errors in the spelling of the last name, however, before departure, a corresponding remark was made to the ticket at the place of purchase.

The Israeli airline El Al, famous for its probably the most stringent safety rules in the world, is quite liberal about mistakes made in the name or surname. There should be no more than three of them, and they should not change the sound of the first or last name.

The airline also notes that passengers quite often confuse their first and last names in places. With such tickets, they will be able to fly away, however, when registering for a flight on the website, they must indicate their first name instead of their last name.

If a passenger notices an error in the ticket, he/she should contact the airline office by phone +38 044 230 69 93 in order to add passport data to the order that uniquely identify the passenger.

Royal Jordanian allows up to three errors in the name / surname on the ticket. Surnames and first names mixed up in places are not allowed.

In this case, the passenger must return the ticket at the place of purchase according to the fare rules and buy a new ticket.

The KLM airline, like many airlines, uses the “up to three errors” rule, but calls it an unspoken one, because. it is not written anywhere.

For example, in the rules you can find such a clarification: " MISSPELLED NAMES, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE NUMBER OF CHARACTERS AS LONG AS THE CHANGE IS LOGICAL" (Misspelling is allowed regardless of the number of characters as long as the change is logical.)

For example, if the letters are interchangeable - Andrii - Andriy, Olga - Olha, etc. For flights to the US, KLM requires a 100% match between the name and surname on the passport and on the ticket. But in each case, it is recommended to contact the call center for advice.

If the name and surname are reversed, call the call center and alert employees at check-in at the airport.
