Jobs in Cyprus: search for vacancies and features of employment

Hot and hospitable Cyprus is one of the most attractive countries not only for tourism, but also for employment. Many of our compatriots, as well as residents of Ukraine, Belarus and various CIS countries fly to this island to find a good, interesting and, most importantly, well-paid job. Those who plan to find a job abroad need to find out where you can find vacancies and what kind of work in Cyprus is considered the most in demand and popular.

Brief information

People who have at least once flown to rest in Cyprus know that this island is territorially divided into two parts - southern and northern. There has been conflict between the inhabitants of these two territories for several decades. The northern part of the island, defending its independence, belongs to the Republic of Turkey. Southern Cyprus is part of the European Union and belongs to Greece. It will be much easier for Russians who want to work in Cyprus to find a good job in the Greek (southern) territory. But getting a job in Turkish (northern) Cyprus will be somewhat more difficult.

Where to look?

There are several ways to find a job in Cyprus. You can look for a job on such Internet portals as:

In addition, a future employee can always visit the website of the Cypriot employment service, where new vacancies appear regularly, indicating all the necessary requirements for the applicant. The website address of this government office is: www.pescps.dl.mlsigov.cy

In addition to the above remote job search methods, job seekers can directly apply to employers when they arrive in Cyprus. There are also many recruitment agencies on the island, whose specialists will help you find vacancies, tell you how employment is going on, and give practical advice to your clients.

Popular Jobs

Our compatriots are usually concerned about the question of what vacancies are available in Cyprus for Russians. Of course, the most popular industries on this island are the service sector and tourism. However, employers require workers in many other specialties. For example, in 2016 in Greek Cyprus such professions as:

  • engineers;
  • the doctors;
  • IT professionals;
  • programmers;
  • financial analysts;
  • accountant;
  • bank employees;
  • teachers;
  • designers.

Approximately the same situation will remain in 2017. Highly educated people looking for a high paying job in Cyprus will be able to find a suitable seasonal or permanent job that suits all their requirements. Applicants with secondary or secondary special education will not be left without a job, there will be work for both girls and young people. Cypriot employers are always happy to hire waiters, salesmen, governesses, housekeepers. Jobs such as hotel administrator, hotel guide, etc. are also popular.

As for salary, it may vary depending on the position held and the amount of work performed:

  • the average monthly salary in Cyprus last year amounted to about 1.5 thousand euros;
  • a minimum wage of about 870 euros will be received by a newcomer who has recently been hired (in six months his salary will increase to approximately 920 euros);
  • a hotel manager or a highly qualified manager will be able to earn about 2 thousand euros per month;
  • monthly earnings of engineers and computer scientists can reach 2.5-3 thousand euros;
  • unqualified personnel receive from 1 to 1.5 thousand euros per month.

In addition to education in the chosen profession and work experience, an applicant who decides to get a job in Cyprus must meet the following requirements:

  • not have health problems;
  • not have a criminal record;
  • speak foreign languages: English and Greek (Southern Cyprus), English and Turkish (Northern Cyprus);
  • have computer skills;
  • for girls who decide to get a job as a nanny or governess, experience working with children is welcome.

To find a job in Cyprus, people living in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc., need to apply for a work visa and work permit. Depending on the chosen vacancy, the employee will need to obtain one of the following visas:

  • A (agricultural, self-employed);
  • B (mining, self-employed);
  • C (trade and other professions, self-employed);
  • D (research activity, self-employed);
  • E (contract work, proposal must come from a Cypriot company);
  • F (issued by people with great personal wealth who do not require any work on the island).

To obtain a work visa, a visitor must collect the following documents and papers:

  • application (completed application form) for a visa;
  • passport with a copy;
  • a certificate confirming that the applicant has no criminal record;
  • health certificate;
  • documents confirming that the employee has a reserve of funds for staying abroad;
  • employment contract with the Cypriot side;
  • color photo 3x4 cm;
  • receipt confirming payment of the visa fee.

After the job is found and the employment contract is concluded, the applicant must take the above documents and submit them to the migration service. After a positive verdict is issued (this may take about 3 months), the employees of this organization will give the person who applied to them permission to enter Cyprus. Typically, a work visa is issued for a year, after which it can be extended for another 12 months.

In addition to a visa, an employee needs to obtain a work permit itself. To issue this paper, Russians and residents of other countries need to collect the same package of documents as for a visa (instead of a passport, a copy is given) and transfer it to their employer. The company that hired the newcomer must apply to the Department dealing with foreign migrants and give all the required documents there. While the work permit is being issued, the employee himself must be at home and wait for a response from the host.

Once the visa and permit are ready, the migrant can fly to Cyprus. Within 8 days after arrival, he will need to apply for a residence permit, undergo a second medical examination and conclude a rental agreement.

If a migrant decides to cheat and circumvent the laws by getting a job illegally (without obtaining visas and other documents), he will be severely punished. In addition to deportation to their homeland and blacklisting, an impressive fine can be imposed on the culprit. An employer who violates the law is also subject to penalties. In some situations, company representatives face arrest for several months.
