Bali black sand beach. Beaches in Padang Bai: Secret Beach, Blue Lagoon, and Kusamba - a wild beach with black volcanic sand. Black volcanic sand - is it safe?

    A cozy beach, a cocktail with a straw, a boundless sea blue, golden sand. Visually evaluating the beach by parameters, we determine for ourselves:

  • nice beach, but waves;
  • great beach but shallow water;
  • the sea and the beach are wonderful, but there are a lot of people or the location is inconvenient;
  • the beach is dirty, but the sea is good, etc.

The beaches of Bali are different. To have an idea about the beach areas and not be disappointed when planning a vacation, let's get to know the beaches better. See the map of Bali beaches:

Beach Southwest

White sand beaches in Bali are a priority for the western and southern territories.

Long, noisy, crowded Kuta beach with developed infrastructure. With a sandy bottom, not very clean. There are budget housing and guesthouses. Stormy life at night attracts young people. Mecca of surfers, several surf schools are designed for Russians.

The long and fashionable Legian beach continues the Kuta zone. At low tide it becomes very wide. Good for trekking and running. Housing is more expensive than in Kuta. Not suitable for swimming, only for surfing. The infrastructure is well developed.

The wide and prestigious Seminyak beach begins behind Legian. The waves are high, there are many surfers. Housing is expensive - respectable hotels and villas. There is a rental of beach accessories, surf boards.

A few kilometers of sandy strip - Jimbaran beach. The water is shallow near the shore, the depth begins further. The bottom is good. The tide "narrows" the beach to a thin strip. Along the beach there are a string of 4* and 5* hotels and fish restaurants.

It rightfully takes its place of honor in the list of the most beautiful beaches of the island (Dreamland beach). Fine sand, azure turbulent sea. There are always a lot of surfers here. Delicious food in cozy cafes. Developed infrastructure.

The wide Balangan beach with fine yellowish sand is not crowded. Attractive view of the beach and its "Martian land" along the coastline from a nearby cliff. Everywhere there are cafes and sun loungers. Entering the water in shoes, it is difficult to swim. But the photos of the beach are bright and surfers love the beach.

Small and calm Padang Padang beach. Once it was a secret beach, only the locals knew about it. Now popular. The coast is good and the waters are clear. There are few waves, which is unusual for the island of Bali. During peak season it is crowded. There are no sun loungers, you can only rent umbrellas. There is a modest cafe, tents with beach and bathing accessories. The highlight of the hotel-restaurant Blue Heaven, located at the height of the cliff - "running over the edge of the pool." The beach is good for families.

Bingin beach is suitable for surfing, nature lovers and romantic photo shoots. The bottom is sandy, waves and a lot of foam. There are several hotels with respectable infinity pools.

White Pandawa beach. Not crowded, suitable for swimming and sunbathing, but there are no hotels here. Extended territory, clear waters of the ocean. There is a walking path with a number of cafes along the beach; kayak rental; massage salon. Natural stalactite caves, a functioning Balinese temple with statues - a piece of the beach ..

White-sand beach Nikko (Nikko beach). Small and long. There is only 1 Grand Nikko hotel on the beach. Relaxing atmosphere, panoramic views of the volcano.

Geger beach is on the list of the best beaches. The ocean is clear, the beach is fine sand. The nearby breakwater and coral reef calm the sea. There are several cafes and entertainment - canoeing, snorkeling, windsurfing. Nearby hotels provide free shuttle service to the beach.

Beaches of Nusa Dua (Nusa Dua beach). There are many five-star hotels on their territory. Not everywhere on the beaches you can stay without being a guest of the hotel. Cleanliness and length, shallow coastal waters. Beach for swimming, windsurfing. At low tide, shallow lagoons form. Suitable for romantics and families. Part of the beach area is the sandy spit of Tanjung Benoa. Attractive walks along the seabed in space suits are organized here.

Perfect Surf

Which beach is better for surfing is difficult to answer. Surfing is the specialty of the island. Canggu beach. Catch a wave here and surfers-gurus, and beginners. The structure of the bottom contributes to the formation of a more powerful and higher wave than in Kuta. Accommodation is available. Some hotels have their own lounge area. Lots of cozy cafes.

Echo beach is a neighbor of Canggu. The border between them is a Balinese temple. There is a bar-cafe. Favorable conditions for surfing.

Uluwatu Beach (also known as Suluban) is hidden between the rocks. It is flooded by the tide. The high wave attracts experienced surfers. The infrastructure is developed and adapted for them. There is a cafe on the cliff with magnificent ocean panoramas.

Southeast coast

Long beach Sanur (Sanur beach). The coast is shallow and the sea is calm. For children - excellent conditions. Expensive coastal hotels, cafes / restaurants. Sanur village has cheap accommodation. Good snorkeling and diving. Along the coast there is a pedestrian and bicycle path. Romantic pavilions flaunt on the breakwaters. Local attractions include a safari park and a beautiful waterfall. The famous Agung is visible from the beach.

The clean Blue Lagoon beach is suitable for scuba diving. A narrow coastal strip, flooded by the tide. At a height of 2-3 m there is a platform with a cafe, a massage parlor.

Candidasa beach. Calm, black and rocky, not suitable for a beach holiday. The chip of Chandidas is private villas "absolute beach front" with infinity pools and panoramas of the azure ocean. "Beach front" - a villa or hotel where foreign tourists are allowed to rest on the beach. The “absolute” option implies a personal access to the sea.

Beaches in the East and North of Bali

Black sand beaches in Bali are the northern and eastern island territories.

Amed beach - rocky and "black". The sea is calm. Corals and exotic living creatures are found already 5 m from the coastline, so snorkeling here is excellent.

Tulamben beach is chosen by divers. The object for beginners is a sunken ship 30 m from the shore.

White Sand beach is a white-sand strip with black sand-volcanic patches. Sea water is transparent, there are no waves. The beach is not crowded due to its remoteness from the centers of Balinese tourism. There are about a dozen cozy restaurants and cafes that provide their guests with umbrellas, towels, snorkeling equipment, sun loungers free of charge. In the east of the island, this is the only beach suitable for swimming and sunbathing. Picturesque cliffs are a natural beach border. There is no housing near the beach.

The wide beaches of the north of Bali are united by the name Lovina (Lovina beach). There is a yellow-sandy coast, with black, gray volcanic sand. The ocean is not worried, housing is available. Nice beach for kids. The cafes and restaurants always have fresh seafood. A walk to the dolphins is one of the attractive beach activities. To do this, boats go out to sea from the Lovina pier.

The beaches of northwestern Bali are located near the village of Pemuteran, far from civilization.

Hotels with private beach

"Private Beaches". They can be accessed through the hotel. But, not being a hotel guest, this is problematic. Among the hotels with a private beach is the Samabe resort in Nusa Dua.

The beach of the Ayana Resort and Spa has its own pier and an unusual Rock Bar on a rocky shore.

The simple hotel Pondok Vienna Beach and the beach of the same name are located in the village of Bunutan. Leaving the room, walking 15-20 steps on black and white sand, you find yourself in the sea. But the price of the room is much more expensive.

secluded beaches

The long and wild Nyang Nyang Beach is popular with surfers. You can get to it by going down the stairs from the cliff, passing through tropical thickets, overcoming more than 500 steps. White sand and endless blue-turquoise ocean. In places, the bottom, similar to a lunar landscape, is rocky with notches.

Deserted, almost wild Nyang Nyang beach. In some places the coast is sandy with shells. There is no infrastructure. Suitable for lovers of secluded relaxation, fans of relaxation. Walking and sunbathing are great activities on this beach, but there are no conditions for swimming. Beach for surfers. But they are few and they ride 100 meters from the shore.

secret beaches

Near Jimbaran, under a sheer cliff, there is a small secret beach called Secret Beach. Rocky bottom and strong waves are at the bottom. From above you can see a mountainous cliff, foamy waves and an azure ocean. Rugged by waves, but photogenic cobblestones are overgrown with moss in many places. Romantic location for wedding photography.

Another "Secret beach". Close to Padang Bai. The snow-white fine sandy Bias Tugal beach will appeal to families with children, divers and fans of green ecotourism.

The beaches of Bali are worth touching the irresistible world of Asian exoticism.

A paradise vacation on the islands is almost always associated with snow-white beaches and the azure sea. Bali is no exception. Hundreds of tourists come here every year to spend their holidays on the ocean. A significant part of Bali's beaches are unsuitable for swimming due to high waves and strong currents, but there are those whose beauty is breathtaking, and swimming in them is a pleasure.

It is one of the best beaches in Bali. Located in a picturesque bay, it provides excellent conditions for a comfortable stay. The length of the coastline is about 5 kilometers. The sand on the shore is white and soft, walking on it is a pleasure. The beach is wide enough to accommodate a large number of tourists.

Due to its shallow depth and smooth entry into the ocean, Jimbaran Beach is great for families, including those with small children. The bottom is sandy, you can not worry that you will get hurt when entering the water. Another advantage is cleanliness, here they carefully monitor the order.

The infrastructure is well developed within Jimbaran. Only modern hotels are provided for accommodation. Meals are organized in cafes and restaurants, most of which are located near the shore. The basis of the diet is seafood dishes. Every day, local fishermen deliver fresh catch, therefore, there is no doubt about the quality of the products.

Dreamland beach

Dreamland Beach is especially popular among tourists. Pleasant to the touch light-colored sand allows you to enjoy evening walks along the coast. There is a good infrastructure, which is developing rapidly. For the convenience of tourists, there are umbrellas and sun loungers that can be rented for a fee.

There are a sufficient number of cafes and restaurants on the beach, where you can try different cuisines of the world. Due to the large waves, the beach is not suitable for swimming. Mostly those who live by surfing rest here. The hotel fund is represented by a large hotel, several villas and bungalows.

Padang Padang beach

It is located in the southwestern part of Bukit. The beach is located next to the rocks. This is a unique place where you can swim in the ocean and ride a surfboard at the same time. The length of the beach is no more than 100 m. To get to the beach, you need to go down the cliff.

Padang Padang Beach is popular with filmmakers and photographers. Clips were filmed here, as well as the famous film “Eat. Pray. Love." Therefore, the beach has become the most popular in Bali.

The first surfers appeared here long before Padang Padang was mastered by tourists. In 2004, international surfing competitions were held here. Not far from the coast, a special type of waves is formed, called a "pipe".

Bingin Beach

A small beach located almost in the southernmost part of Bali. It will not be difficult to get to it from both Kuta and Denpasar. The beach is covered with light sand, on which turquoise waves gently roll. Bingin is a great place for sunsets. Hundreds of tourists come here every evening to enjoy the most beautiful sight.

If you decide to swim here, then it’s better to come at high tide, then the waves are not so high, this allows you to swim at least a little from the coast. If there are no red flags near the shore, then you can swim even at low tide, but you need to be careful, as there can be a large number of stones in the water.

A lot of surfers come to the beach. There are a variety of accommodation options available. Cheaper accommodation is located at the bottom of the beach.

Melasti beach

Although this beach is little explored, this does not prevent it from being one of the most beautiful on the island. It is located in the south of Bali and is considered a good place for a family holiday. In addition, lovers and elderly people come here. Due to the beautiful scenery, newlyweds often visit the beach to take a photo shoot.

Melasti Beach is unofficially divided into three parts. Due to the wide coastline, a fairly large number of tourists can be accommodated here, and most importantly, each of them will feel as comfortable as possible.

There is one interesting attraction on the beach - the Kori Agung gate. Due to high waves, the beach is not suitable for swimming, but the water in the ocean is very clear. Most of the vacationers gather on the beach in the afternoon, so if you want a more secluded holiday, then come here in the morning. The length of the coastline is about 1 kilometer, on all sides the coast is surrounded by rocks, which gives it some kind of peculiarity.

Pandawa beach

This is another beautiful white sand beach in southern Bali. Pandava is well equipped, sun loungers and umbrellas are installed along the coastline. The coastline is wide, but not the entire area of the beach can be used for swimming. In places, red flags have been set up, which symbolize the ban on water procedures.

On the left side of Pandava Beach there is a cozy gazebo, it can be used for beautiful photo shoots and friendly conversations, while admiring ocean views in parallel. There are not many tourists on the beach, which allows you to enjoy a more secluded pastime. It is best to come to the coast at low tide, this will allow you to fully enjoy the water procedures, as the waves during this period become minimal.

Tourist infrastructure is located on the right. There are several cafes, shops, and you can rent a kayak there. Another plus of Pandava is the relatively low cost of food in a cafe, but you need to be prepared for the fact that the basis of the menu is national dishes.

nikko beach

The beach is located near Nusa Dua, despite this, not everyone has heard of it. It houses the eponymous 5-star hotel. There are almost never high tides on Nikko, which allows both adults and children to swim here. The infrastructure is poorly developed, as a small number of tourists rest on the coast.

But if you decide to spend the day in this paradise, be sure that everything you need will be provided for your comfort. For tourists, umbrellas with sun loungers are installed, there are several cafes and shops, massage services are provided, and there is also a surf school. The coast is covered with white sand, the water in the ocean is clean.

Geger beach

This is another great beach located near Nusa Dua. Not far from the coast there is a coral reef, thanks to which the ocean remains quiet and calm almost at any time of the year. Due to the fact that Geger Beach faces east, a light sea breeze always blows here, and the water in the ocean is slightly warmer than in other similar parts of Bali. The entrance to the water is smooth, the bottom is shallow, you can safely come here with children. For the convenience of tourists, sun loungers are installed.

A strip of cafes and restaurants stretches along the coast, serving local and international cuisine. Unlike other beaches on the island, topless sunbathing is allowed on Geger. The tourist infrastructure is developed at a high level, only it is not located along the entire coastline. But if you wish, you can always find a cozy cafe.

Nusa Dua beach

It is the most prestigious beach in Bali. It has a length of about 3 kilometers, within which the best 5-star hotels of the island are concentrated. The coastline is formed by light sand, cleanliness is carefully monitored here and even in the low season the coast remains clean.

Nusa Dua Beach has everything you need to relax. First-class restaurants open their doors here, where you can taste dishes from different nations of the world. Along the shore there are sun loungers with umbrellas. During the day, a huge amount of entertainment is available, including water ski rental, wakeboard, surfing and more. On the beach you will never see annoying traders, any kind of trade in this region is punishable by law.

Bias Tugal Beach

If you are a true romantic and want to enjoy the Balinese sunrise, then this beach is what you need. It is located in the southeast of the island. This beach is a great place for diving and snorkeling. There are almost never high waves here, and the underwater world is striking in its beauty and diversity.

A calm relaxing atmosphere reigns on the beach, and all due to the fact that there are never too many tourists in these places. Within Bias Tugal Beach, there are several cozy hotels, which allows you to stay in these places for several days.

Today, on the entire island of Bali, Legian Beach is considered one of the best. And now I'll tell you why.

Whi te Sand beach (White Sand Beach), or Virgi n Beach (Virgin Beach) in Bali is located near Chandidasa, between the villages of Bugbug (Bug bug) and Perasi (Perasi). Until recently, this was a place unknown to tourists. Now a beautiful view of the azure ocean attracts both locals and visitors here. Unlike other beaches on the island, you can go kayaking in the Indian Ocean here.

General description of the beaches

According to the laws of Indonesia, the beaches in Bali cannot be redeemed as private property, because most of them are public. Only a few prestigious first-line hotels have protected coastal zones where outsiders are not allowed. On the island you can find both crowded and secluded beaches. There are also long sandy strips stretching for several kilometers, and very tiny stretches of the coast, where you can go only at low tide. Some beaches are popular with locals, while others are visited mainly by tourists.

To choose the perfect beach for your vacation, you need to know the following:

  • What is its appearance
  • What is it suitable for

Now let's deal with each of these points.

What do Bali beaches look like?

You can find very different coastlines on the island. I would suggest visiting several beaches to better understand the variety of the island.

But when choosing a specific place to stay, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • sand color
  • wave height
  • Cleanliness
  • Infrastructure

So, here are the main differences between the beaches, in terms of their appearance.

Sand

The beaches of the island do not always correspond to the tourist's ideas of a tropical paradise. The sand here is of different colors:

  • White
  • yellow or golden
  • Grey
  • Black

There are two active volcanoes on the island. The ash that is formed during their eruption ends up on the beaches. The east coast is closest to the volcanoes, so the sand is black here. In the north, it has a more gray tint. In general, in Bali, white sand beaches can only be found on the Bukit Peninsula and small islands located nearby (Nusa Penida, Lembongan, Gili). On the south coast - in Kuta and Seminyak - the sand is yellow-gray. In Sanur and Nusa Dua - white and golden, but it is not natural, but imported.

The structure of the sand is also different. Black volcanic - mostly small, sticks to a wet body and hands. Although there are beaches with rather coarse black sand, resembling very small pebbles. White sand on Bukit is both large and small. Gray is made up of different factions. In addition to sandy beaches, there are rocky ones on the east coast of the island. They are covered with black cobblestones of various sizes.

Waves

It is not for nothing that the island is called a mecca for surfers. Due to the special structure of the bottom and coral reefs near the coast, rather high waves form on the local coasts.

They are divided into three types:

  1. Closeouts (close-out) - closed waves, suitable for riding in foam, quite dangerous when their height reaches two meters or more
  2. Gentle waves (Spilling waves) - characteristic of the coast with a slight slope of the bottom, do not form pipes, suitable for beginner surfers
  3. Plunging waves - fast waves that break into a tube, suitable for advanced and professional surfers

The height and type of the wave depend on the tides and the direction of the wind. In the southwestern part of the island, the waves are higher during the dry season, as southeasterly winds blow here at this time. On the opposite coast, the ocean is more agitated during the rainy season, due to southwesterly winds. High waves are more typical for the southern tip of the island. The best in this sense are the beaches of the Bukit Peninsula, Kuta and Seminyak.

However, you can find calm places with small waves. Most of them are located in the north of the island, near the resort of Lovina. There are good places on the east and southeast coasts - first of all, this is the resort of Sanur. There are low waves on some beaches of the Bukit Peninsula - Padang Padang, Jimbar en, Nusa Dua.

Purity

Interestingly, you can find completely opposite reviews about the same beach. Some visitors write that it is almost perfectly clean, others talk about terrible dirt. In fact, it all depends on the location, infrastructure and season.

Conventionally, I would divide the beaches by cleanliness into several categories:

  • The protected beaches near the hotels are the cleanest. Garbage is removed from the coast several times a day.
  • Public beaches with well-developed infrastructure are quite clean. Garbage is removed in the morning and evening.
  • Public beaches with poor infrastructure - cleanliness depends on the time of day and season. There is less garbage in the morning than in the evening, it is very dirty during the rainy season.
  • Wild secluded beaches - there are both clean and dirty - it all depends on the place and season. But on such coasts, garbage left by tourists is less common. Most of the time it's just algae.

It is important to note that during the peak of the rainy season (from late January to early March), almost all beaches are dirty. The sea brings a lot of garbage, and even the prestigious resorts do not have time to clean the coast. Of course, tourists who visited one of the beaches at this time will not leave the best reviews about it.

There is one more nuance - according to the local religion, the ocean is considered a sacred place. People come here to make offerings to the gods. Fishermen without this rite do not go to sea. On many beaches you can see small altars where the locals bring their ritual gifts in the form of wreaths of flowers, herbs, twigs and fruits. Especially a lot of offerings are brought on the Balinese New Year, when religious ceremonies are traditionally held by the sea. Over time, the wreaths dry up, are carried by the wind, float away to the sea, but then come back.

But the remains of ritual offerings cannot be compared with what vacationers leave on the shore. Bottles, bags, plastic utensils - all this at high tide is again on the coast. Some beaches are equipped with concrete piers. Garbage, adjoining these piers, lingers for a long time, making it difficult to swim.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the beaches on the island is very different. In the protected areas near the hotels, the principle of "all inclusive" applies, here you can find any services. Many public beaches with fully or partially developed infrastructure. There are also completely wild places where there is nothing but sea and sand.

According to the development of infrastructure, the beaches are conditionally divided into the following types:

  • Well developed infrastructure
    On such beaches, you can rent sun loungers, umbrellas, surfboards, equipment for diving, snorkeling and other types of recreation. It offers a lot of interesting entertainment - beach volleyball, banana rides, jet skis and much more. The infrastructure also includes lifeguard stations, showers, and toilets. There are cafes and restaurants near the coast or on the beach itself. All places of this type are paid, prices fluctuate widely. Protected beaches near hotels, where outsiders are not allowed, can be attributed to a separate category.
    The beaches with the best infrastructure are located in the resorts of Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and Sanur. In the east and north of the island, similar places can only be found near hotels.

  • Medium infrastructure
    These beaches provide many of the services listed above. But there may be no lifeguard station, sun lounger rentals and recreation equipment, sometimes there is no shower or toilet. Cafes are represented by a small bar counter, a shop with local dishes or fast food.
    Beaches with medium infrastructure can be found anywhere on the island. Most of them are in the east and north (in Lovina), there are such places on the Bukit peninsula, the islands of Lembongan and Nusa Penida

  • Wild beaches where there is no infrastructure at all
    There are a lot of wild or secret beaches in Bali. They are located on the east coast as well as on the Bukit Peninsula. There are several secluded spots on Gili, Lembongan and Nusa Penida. Tourists do not know about some of them at all.

What types of recreation are local beaches suitable for?

In fact, you can do anything here. The beaches of Bali are suitable for swimming, surfing, diving and snorkeling, various sports, and just for walking along the coast.

Here are the main types of recreation:

  • Surfing and its varieties (windsurfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing)
    The best places for surfing are the south coast of the island, including the Bukit peninsula. At the same time, I recommend going to the southwestern beaches during the dry season, and to the southeastern ones during the rainy season. It has to do with the direction of the wind.
    Kitesurfing (boarding behind a boat) and windsurfing (boarding with a sail) are more developed in the north, in Sanur, Tanjung Benoa and Nusa Dua. The waves here are small, therefore they are suitable for this type of beach entertainment.
  • Diving and snorkeling
    The best beaches for snorkeling are in the north (kur ort Lovina) and east of the island (Amed, Candidasa, Tulamben). There are great places on the nearby islands.
  • Swimming
    Not all beaches are suitable for swimming due to high waves or rocky bottom. You can swim in some places on the Bukit Peninsula, on the Gili Islands. The most popular resorts in this regard are Sanur, Nusa Dua and Lovina.
  • Sports beach activities (volleyball, jet ski, flyboard ding, etc.)
    The main centers of sports entertainment are the beaches of Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua and Sanur. They have small waves and well-developed infrastructure. There are also many beach activities in Kuta, Seminyak.
  • preferences. Determine for yourself 1-2 main criteria by which you will look for a beach. When you find several options, you can pay attention to other characteristics that are less important to you. If you follow this principle, there is a chance to find the best beach for yourself.

- these are not places familiar to many tourists where you can swim anywhere or view the calm, azure sea. Surfers from all over the world come here for big waves, strong winds, and extreme entertainment. Some places are not suitable for swimming because such high waves and rip currents are very dangerous. They can carry a person into the ocean.

However, the island also has the most beautiful, safe beaches in Bali. Here the sea is quite calm, comfortable, amazing ocean, revealing many shades of blue, clean sand, pebbles, beautiful landscapes, rocks. Such places are best suited for a quiet relaxing holiday.

Each tourist will be able to find a suitable place for a relaxing or active holiday, for swimming or surfing, with or without raging waves, with white or black sand.

To understand which beaches are best, you need to determine their purpose. For surfing and other active entertainment, some are suitable, but the best beaches for swimming in Bali may be completely different. Therefore, on each coast of the island there is a suitable beach.

southwest coast

The presented beaches are suitable for various types of recreation. Most of them are adapted for surfers. Also in this part of Bali there are places equipped for swimming and relaxing on the beach. They are distinguished by the presence of white or black sand, which makes each place unique and incredibly attractive.

Legian

This beach follows Kuta, the main visitors here are surfers. However, there are places with smaller waves. Prices here are higher than in Kuta, but this is due to a comfortable stay and convenient location of hotels.

Advantages of Legian: sparsely populated, station of instructors and rescuers, playground, landscapes, white sand. In Legian, you can stay in budget hotels or luxury villas. Depends on the preferences of tourists.

Seminyak

Seminyak settled north of Legian. Differs in prestige and tranquility. Surfers are rare. The coast is equipped with special places for swimming, as well as for surfers, which are marked with a red flag and make it clear that anyone who wants to try water procedures cannot go there.

It is possible to rent an umbrella, deck chair or surfboard. Hotels and villas are located on the shore. The cost of such housing is high. However, you can also find budget hotels, there are 4 of them in Seminyak. This place is well suited for a family vacation, honeymoon or a romantic weekend.

Canggu

Paradise for surfers. The waves rage continuously, so those who want to conquer the fierce sea flock here. Canggu is well suited for coastal recreation: walking on the sand, morning jogging, relaxing on sun loungers under umbrellas, watching the sunset. An interesting property of Canggu is black sand, which acquired this color due to long-standing volcanic emissions.

Canggu is characterized by a quiet, detached atmosphere suitable for meditation or yoga. Changu features include:

  • the presence of several special cafes with a vegetarian bias;
  • yoga school;
  • many low-cost housing, both in the coastal zone and in remote places;
  • bars and restaurants with reasonable prices;
  • outdoor sports center "Shangu Club" for outdoor activities;
  • supermarket to buy food and more.

Upon arrival, you can rent a motorbike and comfortably move around the territory. Driving a bike will not cause trouble and free you from traffic jams during rush hour.

Jimbaran

Decent beach on the south coast of Bali. Jimbaran settled in a bay with picturesque landscapes, hotels, villas, reasonable prices and professional service. The coastline stretches for five kilometers, so Jimbaran can accommodate a large number of tourists.

Jimbaran is suitable for water procedures for adults and children. A gentle slope to the sea, shallow water near the coast and a clean sandy bottom will allow you to comfortably dive into the sea. Jimbaran is famous for its abundance of fish products; everyone can taste a variety of fish dishes.

Lovers of pristine nature will be able to visit the beach created by nature. It is next to the main beach. To get to this heavenly place, you need to go along the path leading to the foot of the cliff. Also here is "Garuda Vishnu Kenchana" - an unusual cultural park.

Jimbaran is a magical place, a good choice for a family or wedding getaway. There are luxurious hotels nearby. At the request of the guests, the service provides food and drinks directly to the places of rest.

Dreamland

Azure sea, white sand - that's what Dreamland beach in Bali is. Dreamland is well suited for a relaxing holiday on sun loungers, sunbathing, enjoying the views of the sea. Dreamland is a place for surfers who dream of conquering rough waves. The rest will swim only at low tide. On the shore there are tents with boards for rent for a small fee, so you do not need to purchase special equipment.

If vacationers want to have a bite to eat, then Dreamland will provide them with such an opportunity. On the very shore there are many cafes, eateries and stalls with an abundance of food and drinks. Tourists will be able to stay in a budget or luxury hotel.

Balangan

It combines a beautiful view of the ocean, unusual landscapes, a peaceful atmosphere and a driving feeling when conquering dangerous waves. Balangan is more for surfers and those who want to make an incredible photo shoot, for example, a wedding. Many tourists visit Bali for this beach.

The entire surface of the coast is covered with stony volcanic rock, which is overgrown with soft moss of green hues. Such views can not leave indifferent. A good idea would be to ride a bike along the winding paths leading to the coastal area. Balangan is an ideal place for celebrations (weddings).

Even in the tourist season, there are not so many visitors, more often surfers come here to sail on boats to the place where the waves are gaining strength, power and height. There are several hotels on the shore, they provide sun loungers and other equipment for a pleasant stay.

Padang – Padang

On Padang-Padang Beach, adults and children can enjoy the warm, clear waters of the ocean, parents can not be afraid for their safety. Due to the location of the ocean, unrest is extremely rare. Attracts a white sandy shore, clear ocean water, a cloud of cafes scattered on the coast.

About Padang-Padang as a tourist point, they learned quite recently, before only local residents knew about it. The only negative is the abundance of visitors in the high season, who are in a hurry to quickly plunge into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Those who wish to be alone with nature will be able to move away from the busy coast to the rocks and enjoy the beautiful views of the coast. On the beach there is a good hotel-restaurant with professional service.

Bingin

Great place for experienced surfers and beginners. Waves and foam reach the very shore, so everyone can try their luck to catch a wave. On the shore there is a rental of boards and instructors who will help you master surfing. But Bingin is not suitable for swimming, only for relaxing on the shore. Bengin benefits include:

white, pleasant to the touch, sand; long clean beach; beautiful views of untouched nature; hotels with affordable prices and expensive housing with luxurious pools (views of the ocean).

Another feature of Bingin is the nearby Imposible surfer spot. A pleasant beach, which few people know about, so it was called secret.

Bukit Peninsula

The peninsula is located in the southern part of Bali. This part is dominated by beaches with clear, turquoise waters, where there are many secret beaches that are well suited for surfing. Picturesque rocky limestone ledges offer breathtaking views of the ocean.

Uluwatu

Uluwatu becomes accessible only at low tide and is popular with both advanced surfers and visitors who come to enjoy the beauty of the ocean and watch the sunset. You can also look at the virtuoso surfers from cozy cafes while drinking cold cocktails.

In addition to the beach, the Uluwatu temple is built on a rock here, which will appeal to those who are in Bali for the first time. In the evening at sunset, you can see Kecak for a small fee - a national dance that looks more like a theater performance. Advantages of Uluwatu: developed infrastructure (an abundance of shops for souvenirs and equipment). There is housing for every pocket: budget hotels, luxury villas.

Nyang Nyang

This beach is also on the list of secret ones. Its location and long staircase with over 500 steps made Nyang Nyang quite deserted. There are no cafes, convenient rental of sunbeds, umbrellas and surfboards. There are almost no visitors - usually local or a few surfers. Nyang Nyang attracts with few people. Here you can enjoy the ocean without the crowds of tourists, if you are ready to sacrifice convenience for this. You can only stay in a hotel on a cliff.

Pandava

Pandava Beach in Bali is considered the most beautiful place on the peninsula. On the way to it, there are unusual quarries, where statues of rulers can be observed in niches in the rock. Pandava has the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Ideal for relaxation.

Here you can swim, enjoy the view and get great photos for memory, as well as see the local temple. In addition, on the beach there is an opportunity to rent a kayak and swim in the ocean. The only inconvenience is the lack of hotels in the territory of Pandava. Therefore, you will have to live in the neighborhood and pay for the rent of sunbeds, umbrellas, and other equipment at each visit.

Nikko

Nikko is named after the Grand Nikko Hotel, which is located right on the beach. It is well suited for tourists with children, as there are no dangerous currents close to the coast, and the beach itself is completely covered with fine white coral sand. On the shore there are comfortable sun loungers with umbrellas. Tourists love this beach for being photogenic. In the morning in good weather, you can take a picture against the backdrop of the volcano in the distance. Also, the newlyweds are photographed near a dry tree.

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is popular for its famous hotels. Most vacationers come here. The beaches of Mengiat and Geger are also often referred to. The places here are very pleasant for swimming and are usually not crowded. At the entrance there is a gate with a barrier, but you can drive freely. There are also private beaches that can only be accessed from the hotel.

Shallow depth and flat shore are good for swimming, there are almost no surfers here. Nusa Dua is a great place for a measured family vacation. Five-star hotels with private beaches are concentrated on the coast.

Tanjung Benoa

In Tajung Benoa there is a center for water activities. Here you can find services for every taste. Underwater walks in space suits, snorkeling are very popular. The beach stretches over the entire spit, but it is not convenient to swim everywhere - in some places fishing boats interfere with enjoying the ocean. The best place for swimming with children is not far from the breakwaters - it is smaller here and the line of buoys is quite far from the coast.

southeast coast

Beaches located on the southeast side are better suited for swimming without waves. Therefore, families with children or elderly couples most often fly to this part of the island to relax. The coast is equipped with everything necessary for entertainment, both in the daytime and in the evening.

Sanur

Very calm and attractive place in Bali. The beaches are quite spacious and long, and the sea is calm and shallow. To reach the depth, you have to walk several tens of meters. However, for vacationers with children, this feature of the coast is a plus. Enables families with small children to swim in the shallow waters of the sea.

Sanur is lined with cafes, restaurants and hotels. Housing is more accessible located in the depths of the island in the village. Those who stayed in nearby places of rest come to visit Sanur for the sake of:

  • lovely beach;
  • gourmet lunches, dinners;
  • a waterfall located near the shore;
  • safari park;
  • diving;
  • dive schools;
  • paved walking and cycling trail.

People tend to visit Sanur Beach in Bali for the opportunity to see marvelous landscapes, visit interesting tourist places, make a beautiful photo shoot, sail to Gili Island and watch volcanoes.

Padang Bai

Often the water in the ocean is calm, waves rarely appear. But it is advised to swim near the left side of the coast. A feature of Padang Bai is the lack of sunbeds and umbrellas. Tourists settle down on rugs, towels that they brought with them. Whether this is a positive or a negative feature can only be determined by the one who personally visited it.

Near Padang Bai there is a “Secret Beach”, hidden from prying eyes, covered with pure white sand and enclosed by cliffs. The most pleasant, neat, comfortable place. Suitable for those who love peace and quiet.

Blue Lagoon

The beach service provides many services, among them:

  • rental of equipment for scuba diving (fins, masks, snorkels and necessary for diving);
  • rental of boats, sun loungers, umbrellas, life jackets;
  • parking (located near the coast);
  • showers (located next to the parking lot);
  • massage services.

Each tourist has access to a lot of entertainment in addition to a relaxing holiday on sun loungers. Active activities include: diving, boating or jukung, snorkeling. Near the Blue Lagoon, cafes and restaurants have settled down, which offer a bewitching view of the bays.

The highlight of Bali in this part of the island is Kusamba Beach, located near the Blue Lagoon. It stands out with black volcanic sand. And you can rent a house in the village of Padang Bai.

East Coast

Amed

Suitable for lovers of the underwater world. It has everything you need to swim underwater: masks, snorkels, fins. If you dive right from the shore, you can see corals and fish swimming among them. The sea is clear and calm throughout the year.

There is only one drawback of Amed - a rocky shore with black coarse sand. It is not intended for a relaxing holiday in sun loungers, so sunbathing will not work. This is an exclusively water resort with a beautiful underwater landscape. Housing can be found for any budget.

White Sand Beach

An excellent secluded place for those who do not like noise and hordes of tourists. All thanks to the remote location of White Sand Beach from the tourist areas and the airport. It is comfortable to sunbathe or swim here. There are also several cafes scattered around where you can order lunches or drinks. Clients of establishments use sunbeds, umbrellas or towels at no extra charge.

neighboring islands

In addition to interesting places on the island of Bali, there are small islands not far from it that every tourist can visit. A tempting option for those who have already seen the sights in Bali and now want to enjoy the scenery of the nearby islands.

Gili Air Island

Gili Air is sheltered by beaches on each side of the island. It is difficult to swim near the coast, it is too shallow here, especially at low tide. It will be possible to take sea baths in one place where a depression has formed in the bottom.

There are several small hotels, pleasant cafes, beach cafes - clubs. In the evening, open-air movie screenings are held. The island has a good atmosphere and quality service. Young people love Gili Air for its rich nightlife.

Nusa Lembongan Island

Nusa Lembongan can be reached from Bali in half an hour. Although the island cannot be called a resort paradise, there are quite decent hotels here. The beaches on Nusa Lembongan are not particularly suitable for swimming. But it’s worth going here because of the nature – chic mangrove forests and the Devil’s Tear place, popular among tourists, where ocean waves collide with rocks, forming spray fountains.

Nusa Penida island

Nusa Penida is good for its bewitching wildlife. It is not suitable for a beach holiday, so people usually come here for one day to enjoy diving and appreciate the pristine natural beauty. Nusa Penida. The unique nature, gorgeous rocks and the ocean are impressive at first sight. Most of the island's hotels are poorly equipped, some do not even have hot water. Two hotels with amenities: Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

Lombok Island

Lombok can be chosen as an alternative to those who have already had their fill of holidays in Bali. Of course, it is not so developed and popular in terms of tourism, but many people will like the excellent nature with volcanoes and waterfalls. There are wonderful beaches here, but most of them are worse equipped than in Bali.

Lombok is suitable for a secluded holiday, especially for nature lovers.

The beaches of Bali are not quite what tourists usually expect from them 😎 This is not the Maldives ... and there are not many Bounty-style beaches, you still need to look for them! More often people fly to a paradise island for the sake of surfing, nature and authenticity, rather than for a beach holiday. Therefore, before buying plane tickets, enter the coordinates the best beaches in Bali on the map maps.me and rent a bike or car

For the pioneers of beach Bali, I advise you to take an individual tour with a Russian guide -

I will show photos of the beaches of Bali from two holidays - December 2016 and 2017. Recommendations are my subjective, there are more good beaches, but I didn’t go there for a tan, I devoted most of my time to the jungle, rice fields and simple relaxation. MY MAP OF BEACHES

WHITE SAND BEACHES IN SOUTHERN BALI

Jimbaran beach

It is located near the Denpasar airport, the sand is white, fine, the bottom is flat, no big waves were noticed. The temperature of the water in the ocean feels + 28. I advise you to choose the left side of the beach for swimming, in Google Maps it is Pantai Muaya , we parked the car for free next to the temple (-8.782889, 115.161914). By the way, drive in all the coordinates with a minus sign, since Bali is located below the equator. Sunbeds for the money, but we did not take. We sat down on chairs at the grandmother selling coconuts and beer. In the distance, the photo shows a luxurious bungalow. My photo with coconut was taken on Jimbaran beach

Jimbaran Beach is also known for its fish restaurants, they are located closer to its center, choose any one, looking into the aquariums with the catch inside the premises. People come to 17 to take the trump seats and enjoy the sunset (in winter it is at 18:30). The price tag for seafood and fish is average, but closer to European, but keep in mind + 15% tax and + for service.

To the right of the fish restaurants, the Denpasar airport runway is clearly visible, and planes land here every 5 minutes. They also sell corn here and musicians entertain guests with songs in all languages of the world. For us, the Balinese chose for some reason "A glass of vodka on the table." I paid them 50 thousand rupees (3 euros)

Pantai Tegal Wangi Jimbaran
There is a secluded wild cove very close ( -8.781397, 115.141482)🌊 Besides us, there were also several romantic couples hiding behind the rocks from the sun and spectators🌴☀ Andrei frolicked in the ocean, looked like a child, it was his first swim in the Indian Ocean 🏊

The coast there is rocky, I didn’t find a place for sunbathing and there were big waves, but the place is damn beautiful and wild. Maybe it's quieter at low tide.

Balangan beach
Balangan beach- one of the most photogenic beaches, so many wedding photographers hang out on the cape (-8.790441, 115.125056). The ceremonies are symbolic, with a wedding arch, a white dress - obviously only for the sake of a photo shoot.

If you go down to the beach from the opposite edge (-8.793569, 115.122900), then you will find yourself in a simple eatery, you can immediately rent a board. But the entrance to the sea here is unpleasant, let the photo with white sand fascinate you ... but there are a lot of boulders in the water, and the waves knock you off your feet. This place is more for surfing

I've been here twice, and I can't say that it's nice to swim. On the other side of the beach, we found a place where we could swim near the shore.

Beach in Canggu
We lived in this town for 5 days by booking a hotel room Sunset Villa Bali, which was deserted due to a recent volcanic eruption. For 800 rubles per day for 2 people we got complete privacy, comfort and a pool with a kitchen. Breakfast in the morning at Hungry Bird Coffee What a great cappuccino! By the way, using this link you will receive 20 euros as a gift for your first booking on Arnbnb.

We lived 7 minutes walk from Finns Beach Club, the beach there is long, there are many small bars where you can lie in exchange for juice, beer. The sand here is no longer white, but gray, but pleasant for walking. And swimming in Canggu is difficult because of the big waves, but a great place for surfing.

Andrey rented a board - 50 thousand rupees (3 euros) for 2 hours on Batu Balong Beach

A small video review of these beaches

Gala's Beach or Nikko Beach
These beaches are very close on the map), respectable hotels are located along the road. And it was the best beach in Bali, moreover, it was deserted, there were no waves near the ocean, white sand of coral origin was underfoot 🏜 We parked the car near the temple (-8.833364, 115.213052) and went down the steep steps.

We found a deserted cave to rest in the shade, where there were sunbeds from a luxury hotel 🏖and brazenly used them! We swam with a mask, collected shells, listened to the sound of the ocean waves 🌊🐚🐳 I never stopped thanking the Agung volcano for the deserted Bali in December 😘 If you compare my vacation in 2016 and in 2017, then the island then and now is heaven and earth! 👏 If you are afraid to drive a bike and a car on the island, I advise you to take an individual tour. Affordable accommodation near Nikko Beach - or the chic The Ritz-Carlton Bali

In slow motion, I made a video about the best beach in Bali, in our opinion

And I would like to say a few more words about The worst white sand beaches in Bali:

  1. Sanur beach! I didn’t even take a photo, there is a swamp, not the sea, swimming in shallow water with algae is still a pleasure. Don't waste your vacation in a retirement resort…
  2. Padang Padang beach, where they filmed the film "Eat, Pray, Love" (a report about it here). In the photo it seems that this is a heavenly place, but there were so many people that they did not get high. Muddy water, although the entrance is pleasantly gentle. Entrance is paid - 10 thousand rupees (70 euro cents), parking is paid, the cafe on the beach sucks, dirty. After visiting the crowded popular tourist places in Bali, Andrey and I decided to travel only to little-known and natural beauties

In the video you will see a real picture from Padang Padang beach

Black sand beaches in Bali

Lipah beach in Amed
We went to the north of Bali not for the beaches, but for the silence and low prices. It's funny, but this region is underdeveloped, asphalt was laid only in the early 2000s. But we really liked the calm sea, however, it is slightly colder than the Indian Ocean (maybe +26). We booked a room in Bayu Cottages Hotel for 12 euros for two with breakfast, and again we were alone! Of course, in season and not with an erupting volcano, it costs more 😜 The Bali Sea is ideal for swimming 🏊fishing 🎣snorkeling and diving. We rested on the Lipach beach, this is a secluded cove with an incredible underwater world! The color of the sand is black, it is very fine, but at the entrance to the sea there is white sand, so the water is clear.

If this is your first time booking on Arnbnb, use $25 off

The same Lipach beach sunny morning. Check out the transparency and calmness!

From Ubud we got here at least 2 hours along narrow roads and jungle, renting a car for 10 euros per day. I can also advise you to take an excursion to the north of Bali to see Amed, swim on the beach, visit the water palaces and the Lempuyang Temple overlooking. We saw him splashing in the hotel pool. From there you can see the sea, and it takes 15 seconds to go down to it.

The most interesting thing in Amed is snorkeling. We had our own mask and snorkel, but here every little boy offers them for rent. As are the boats. Also, for 300 thousand rupees (18 euros) you can go fishing at dawn. Diving enthusiasts also come here to dive to sunken ships.

The big plus of the north of Bali over the tourist south was cheap fish. Once bought from a fisherman from a boat for 50 thousand 3 pieces (3 euros). And then all the days they ate in Amed Resto, I ordered mackerel with rice and vegetables for only 2 euros

Beach at Les Village

In the Tejakula area, we settled in an amazing hotel with a diving center Sea Communities - Segara Lestari Villas, we got carried away by chance thanks to Arnbnby, after reading the reviews. In the Less Village, everything is fine - silence, the absence of tourists and the integrity of the locals, huge portions of food from the hostess for dinner, coconut, mango and rambutan plantations, the sound of the sea even in our room. But the beach is missing, although the black sand mixed with huge stones did not frighten the local kids, they swam. We lived in an eco-village for 5 days, and still we were satisfied with the "other Bali"

Lovina beach in Bali
The beaches in the north of Bali are generally not encouraging, civilized and suitable for swimming are few. We read about Lovina in the north of Bali, arrived, and there was a shallow, muddy and gray sea, the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov ... We found a civilized swimming beach on the map - Spice Beach Club Bali, having paid as much as 3 euros for fresh watermelon, the sea here also did not please, but we used sun loungers and a toilet.

The locals pestered with renting boats to see dolphins, but I see them in Montenegro in the Tivat Bay, where our yacht is moored. We left Lovina for a swim in the hot springs.

Beaches for swimming in Bali in the east

Few of the tour package tourists realize that in the east of the island there are wonderful beaches with white sand and no waves. This is also the Bali Sea, not the ocean.

Blue Lagoon beach in Bali- this is a place from the category of "must see". The road from Ubud here is simple, there are few cars, the track is wide in places (-8.529756, 115.513304

This beach is located a 2-minute drive from the famous Padangbay Pier, from where boats leave for the paradise islands of Gili. We never got to them, but there the beach vacation is much more luxurious!

Secret beach in Bali or Bias Tugel Beach
It is located on the other side of Padangbay. Incredibly beautiful white sand beach, few people, silence and romantic atmosphere. Parking is free, then you need to make your way through the jungle along the path, it is better to be in shoes. I was there in 2016 - this is one of the best beaches in Bali without waves with a clear sea, which tourists know little about.

I hope that my stories about Bali and photos of the beaches will help organize your trip to the paradise island correctly 😄 Whatever the rumors about the beaches of Bali - that it is not possible to swim, they are dirty or suitable only for surfers - remember that you always have a choice, the main thing is the maps.me map on the phone, and under the booty is the seat of a bike or car 🚙 since there is no public transport on the island

Where to buy insurance in Bali - which is better

No one forces you to spend extra money on insurance in Bali, whether to buy it or not is your own business, they don’t check at the airport ... But remember that Indonesia has a different climate, water and food, almost everyone in Bali has an upset stomach from Indonesian kitchens. Here you can catch dengue fever with a bite of one type of mosquito and wallow with fever and vomiting for a week or two. And no one is immune from small accidents or falls from the bike, given the left-hand traffic and terrible traffic on the island.

I would recommend buying insurance in Bali from a company. Their assistance in Russia, Mondial, has recently changed its name to Allianz Global Assistance. Believe me, this is the most reliable in the insurance industry, the main office is in Paris. This is the only assistance with an “AA” rating from Standard & Poor’s, it is he who will save you on the island in insurance cases, as well as pay for your treatment. You can check the price of insurance in Bali in this form by entering the flight dates and the country of Indonesia.

Rainy season in Bali 2018

Winter is the rainy season in Bali, although we didn’t see them much, more often they come at night. The temperature is comfortable all year round and does not rise above +31, but it is humid. In the north of the island in the Amed region, it rains much less than in the center in the Ubud region, where the jungle is, due to the fact that volcanoes do not let clouds go north. In the south of the island, it also rains less often in winter than in Ubud, but the ocean is stuffy and hot.

It is better to fly to Bali in spring and early autumn, and in summer - the peak of the tourist season, there is little rainfall, but there are many tourists and high prices.

Tickets to Bali - how much does it cost to fly to the island

Please note that we did not fly from Moscow, but from Montenegro, and this is an additional plane, so the flight cost more. For two people, they spent 1,545 euros on Turkish Airlines for the Podgorica-Istanbul-Jakarta segment. Thanks to two hotels in transit, I consider this a low price, although Qatar Airways (from Belgrade) or Singapore Airlines (from Milan) were cheaper. And another 200 euros went back and forth from the capital of Indonesia to the Denpasar airport.

From Moscow, Kyiv, St. Petersburg and Belgrade, you can fly to Bali with Qatar Airways, Singapore or Emirates
