website with bated breath presents a selection of the most mysterious places on the planet that cause quiet horror and interest at the same time.

The combination of mystery and danger arouses interest and unwillingly attracts attention, and the view of nature, which calmly captures what people have created, returns us to an understanding of our own insignificance in the face of time.

San Ji ghost town, Taiwan

A luxurious resort on the sea coast was built specifically for the local rich. But already during the construction, a strange thing began. Dozens of workers died: broke their necks, falling from a height (even with safety ropes), died under collapsed cranes. The surrounding residents were sure that the town was inhabited by evil spirits. There were heartbreaking stories about a Japanese "death camp" that was once located there. In the late 1980s, construction stalled. The apartments never found buyers, and the authorities do not demolish the city, because people believe that in this way they will release evil spirits outside.

Abandoned military hospital in Belitz, Germany

The city of the same name is located 40 kilometers from the capital of Germany. During the First and Second World Wars, the hospital was used by the military, and in 1916 Adolf Hitler was treated there. In 1995, people left the city, since then it has been gradually destroyed.

Eighth workshop of the Dagdiesel plant, Makhachkala

Naval weapon test station, commissioned in 1939. It is located at a distance of 2.7 km from the coast and has not been used for a long time. Construction was carried out for a long time and was complicated by difficult conditions. Unfortunately, the workshop did not serve the plant for long. The requirements for the work carried out in the workshop changed, and in April 1966 this grandiose structure was written off from the factory balance. Now this “Massiv” is abandoned and stands in the Caspian Sea, resembling an ancient monster from the shore.

Lier Sikehus Psychiatric Hospital, Norway

The Norwegian psychiatric hospital, which is located in the small town of Lier, half an hour from Oslo, has a dark past. Once, experiments were carried out on patients here, and for unknown reasons, four buildings of the hospital were abandoned in 1985. Equipment, beds, even magazines and personal belongings of patients remained in the abandoned buildings. At the same time, the remaining eight buildings of the hospital are still working today.

Gunkanjima Island, Japan

In fact, the island is called Hashima, nicknamed Gunkanjima, which means "cruiser island". The island was settled in 1810 when coal was found there. Within fifty years, it has become the most populated island in the world in terms of the ratio of land and the number of inhabitants on it: 5300 people with a radius of the island itself of one kilometer. By 1974, the reserves of coal and other minerals on Gankajima were finally exhausted, and people left the island. Today, visiting the island is prohibited. There are many legends about this place among the people.

Kowloon Walled City, Hong Kong, China

The city was in Hong Kong, but did not obey the authorities, being run by the mafia. Inside, not only prostitution and drug trafficking flourished, but there was also self-government. In addition, the region had its own industry: semi-handicraft production of noodles and all sorts of small things. The products of enterprises were inexpensive: there were no taxes, and local entrepreneurs did not comply with labor laws. They had their own nursing home, kindergarten and school. In the early 1990s, the population density reached two million people per square kilometer.

After a complex process of eviction of the people living there, in 1995 a park of the same name was opened on this site. Some of the city's historical artifacts, including the yamen building, and the remains of the South Gate have been preserved.

Abandoned Salto Hotel in Colombia

In 1924, the luxurious Refugio El Salto was built in the city of San Antonio del Tekendama. After some time, the hotel was closed due to the increasing cases of suicides of visitors. Sinister legends and rumors circulate around this place.

Church of San Juan Parangaricutiro, Mexico

The church, located in the village of the same name, was buried under the lava of the Paricutin volcano in 1944, the village was completely destroyed. Miraculously, the altar and the church bell tower remained untouched, surrounded by the ruins of the temple complex, protruding cones of solidified lava resemble foreign paintings.

The underwater city of Shichen in China

Ghost town Kolmanskop, Namibia

The ghost town of Kolmanskop, built in a place where small diamonds were found in the sand, which the wind brought from the ocean. Large beautiful houses, a school, a hospital, a stadium were built in the city, and the settlement quickly turned into an exemplary German city. Everyone counted on long-term prosperity, but alas, the “diamond supply” quickly dried up. In addition, it was hard to live in the city due to problems with water and sandstorms, and people left it. Most of the houses are almost completely covered with sand and make a depressing impression.

I present to you a selection of mysterious places from which you will have goosebumps. These places cause quiet horror and interest at the same time.
In today's world, everything is accelerating: if some cities are growing at a cosmic speed, others are just as quickly abandoned. Ruin, lack of development or man-made disasters force people to leave their homes. Once flourishing cities fall into disrepair and are overgrown with terrifying rumors, attracting only the most desperate tourists. The combination of mystery and danger arouses interest and unwillingly attracts attention, and the view of nature, which calmly captures what people have created, returns us to an understanding of our own insignificance in the face of time.
The underwater city of Shichen in China
This incredible city in 1341, Shichen or "Lion City", was flooded during the construction of a hydroelectric power station. The city went under water, and around there was one of the most picturesque artificial lakes with 1078 islands.
Abandoned military hospital in Belitz, Germany

The city of the same name is located 40 kilometers from the capital of Germany. During the First and Second World Wars, the hospital was used by the military, and in 1916 Adolf Hitler was treated there. After World War II, the hospital ended up in the zone of Soviet occupation and became the largest hospital outside the Soviet Union. In 1995, people left the city, since then it has been gradually destroyed.
Poveglia Island, Italy

The small island is surrounded by a thick fog of terrifying stories. Here, during the plague in the 16th century, hopelessly ill people were brought, who had no chance of surviving. There is a version that the corpses were not buried, so the soil in Poveglia mainly consists of human ash. However, this is only the beginning of the horror. In 1922, a psychiatric hospital was located on the island. Almost all of her patients soon began to suffer from nightmarish headaches and complain that the clinic was literally filled with the ghosts of the dead. But this only played into the hands of the chief physician, who stuffed the mentally ill with neuroleptics and experimented on them. The dilapidated building of the clinic with beds and fragments of medical equipment is still preserved on the island. There is also a bell tower (now it serves as a lighthouse), from which, according to legend, a crazy doctor threw himself at the end of the story.

Transpolar Highway, Russia

The unfinished railway Chum - Salekhard - Igarka, which was laid in the USSR in 1947-53 by the convicts. It is believed that it was supposed to lead to Cape Kamenny to the secret military port, which they wanted to build after the war. When the construction had already begun, it turned out that the bay was too shallow and could not receive ocean-going ships: the construction was abandoned. The quality of laying the canvas was extremely low. The study of the history of this railway has not yet been completed, there is a search for documents, technical documentation, there is a search for participants in those events.
Lier Sikehus Psychiatric Hospital, Norway

The Norwegian psychiatric hospital, which is located in the small town of Lier, half an hour from Oslo, has a dark past. Abandoned wooden houses, Russia

These are the estates of the architect Ivan Ropet (real name - Petrov Ivan Nikolaevich), his buildings became the source of the "pseudo-Russian" style in architecture. Such abandoned buildings can be found, for example, in the Kostroma region.
Church of San Juan Parangaricutiro, Mexico

The wreck of the Airfield in Homebush Bay, Australia

This is the steam ship SS Ayrfield, which has been abandoned for many years off the coast of the Olympic Village in Sydney. The right hull of the ship has turned into real mangroves. Known as "The Floating Forest". The ship was built in Britain in 1911 and was used to transport coal and ammunition during World War II.
Pripyat, Ukraine

An abandoned city located three kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After the accident in 1986, he fell into the exclusion zone and became a frightening ghost of the power of nuclear energy. Now organized excursions are led there, and stalkers come there for walks, but interest in this place does not subside, and new "urban legends" are born.
Nara Dreamland Amusement Park, Japan

The park was opened in 1961, but closed in the late 90s due to lack of funding. On the territory there are roller coasters, carousels, a castle, water slides, slot machines and many other buildings. Clean, quiet, almost no graffiti, all furnishings and equipment have been preserved in the buildings.
Michigan Railroad Station, Detroit, USA

The central station was built in 1913, it was once a major railway station, and on January 5, 1988, the last train departed from here. The next day the station closed, and since then the building has been gradually destroyed.
Dutch Island, Maryland, USA

A swampy, rapidly decaying island in the Chesapeake Bay, near the city of Dorchester. Once the inhabitants of this island were boatmen and farmers, but in 1914 the wind and the tide gradually began to destroy the western part of the island, where most of the residential buildings were located. Therefore, people had to leave the island, but the last house remained.

Varosha area, Cyprus

It used to be a modern tourist area in the city of Famagusta. In 1974, Turkish troops invaded Cyprus and tore the island in two. Citizens fled, leaving their homes. The Turkish military cordoned off the area with barbed wire and declared it a safe no man's land, preventing anyone from entering. Now the buildings are abandoned and falling apart.

The action of this story took place after the events described by me in the stories: “Walk Walker”, “Snakes in the Stove” and “Hand of Fate”.

It was 1997. By this time, Anar was already living in Turkmenistan. Grandma has been gone for 8 years now. The only person who understood and loved him died. And my husband was left all alone in this cruel world ...

He was riding a motorcycle on the Karakum sands and, according to the law of meanness, gasoline suddenly ran out. "Damn it!" thought Anar, dismounting from his iron horse. It was a pity to leave him, but there was nothing to do, not to drag him in his hands through the desert.

There was, of course, a sandy road, along which cars sometimes drove.

I'll tell you about an abandoned children's camp called Gagarinets. This camp is located ten kilometers from the city of Izhevsk. There are also working camps nearby, the closest of them is "Festivalny" (I could be wrong, I didn't go there myself). People say that "Gagarinets" was obviously built in a geopathic zone - simply speaking, in an "unclean" place.

The events due to which it was decided to close the camp took place back in Soviet times - that is, the abandoned camp is about 30 years old, if not more. The guys and the leaders in the camp had fun - almost like hide and seek, only the driver was tied to a tree, and he had to get rid of (they were tied on purpose weakly) and go look for friends.

My friend and I went on a hike to the abandoned Lopatinsky mine. They never reached him, because they went the wrong way and got a little lost. Since it was already getting dark, we decided to stop for the night and continue our journey in the morning. We set up a tent, lit a fire, prepared a little meal, we sit and talk.
And then I see that my friend is peering somewhere behind me (and the forest is rare there, visibility is at least a hundred meters). I ask her, what happened? She replied that everything was fine. We talk further. And then I saw something, from which my blood froze in my veins - behind my friend, about twenty meters away, I saw a shadow as tall as a man, oval in shape, blacker than black.

It happened not so long ago - a month ago. My friend and I, one might say, are “stalkers”: don’t feed us bread, just let us climb into the old building. And not just climb, but rummage around there. Lanterns and a knife are always with me, I have matches, he has stew. And we found another unfinished building - construction was abandoned in the 90s. There is also a watchman there - an old grandfather who let us through for a "bubble" of vodka.

The building had 12 floors. On the first one, there are a lot of ashes from fires (four pieces) and stains - either fuel oil, or tar, or something else. When we got to the 10th floor it started to smell really bad.

There is an abandoned hospital in Kharkov very close to the airport - a one-story small building, all covered with various inscriptions (in particular, some phone number is repeatedly repeated among them). Directly in front of this very building is a playground and a five-story building. The doors of this building are always wide open.
Since circumstances required me to walk past this building several times a week, I made it a habit to occasionally go into this building and walk along the empty corridors, listen to the silence there and study the layout. What surprised me a little in this building was the cleanliness (the absence of beer cans on the floor) and the desertedness (when I come in, there is no one).

Recently, from my mother, I heard a story that can not be called otherwise than mysticism.
Even in their youth, they went mushroom picking in a company. And they were offered by their father's employee, who also went with his wife and brother. Let's go in his car. There was no specific direction, they just went to the forest, where they were advised by experienced mushroom pickers. They left the car at the edge of the forest, they themselves decided not to move far from each other, and in which case, to shout, and for those who get lost, those who got lost will honk from the car (sorry, there were no mobile phones then). As usual in an unfamiliar place, and even in the forest, they imperceptibly separated and dad and mom got lost.

Tired of the eternal frantic rhythm of big cities? Do you want to relax, unwind and at the same time get new unforgettable impressions? Go to where time has stopped - to the abandoned places of the world. Truly, it will be the most exciting journey. Once populous and prosperous, now lifeless and dull cities will make you rethink your own ideas about the ideal life. And if not, then you can simply catch your dose of adrenaline from the ominous silence and the mystical abandonment of some places.

Abandoned places of the planet with photos and descriptions

In order for people to voluntarily leave their homes and leave an established life, something out of the ordinary must happen. In some cases, the reasons are obvious, while in others the details of abandonment are covered with mysterious and even mystical legends. Ready to get to know them better?

The history of this small but steadily growing and developing city was cut short in an instant. The disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986 once and for all turned its picturesque streets into the most terrible abandoned places in the world. During the evacuation, local residents were told to take only the most valuable and necessarily documents. All of them soon planned to return back, but fate decreed otherwise.

Today, three decades after the terrible accident, only the wind walks in the abandoned houses, the black lifeless windows terrify the daredevils who ventured to go here on an excursion. It is still dangerous to stay in the city for a long time, but short trips to the exclusion zone are of great interest to tourists.

An underwater city really exists, and it is Shicheng, which means Lion City. A hundred years ago it was crowded and beautiful, but today only fish, mollusks and other underwater inhabitants can live in it. In 1953, due to an accident at a hydroelectric power station, Shicheng was completely flooded and went under water by 30-40 meters, residents were evacuated to nearby cities. Only a few tiny islands in the middle of an artificial lake keep the memory of the buildings that once towered here.

In the second half of the 20th century, the Taiwan authorities decided to build a new resort city in a picturesque place among tropical vegetation. The highlight of the resort should have been houses in the form of original flying saucers. Enormous funds were allocated to implement the project, but the town of San Zhi died without being born. Something constantly interfered with construction: mysterious accidents on the sites, mysterious deaths and disappearances, a riot of elements. When the city was finally completed, there were no active people willing to buy real estate here. So these beautiful abandoned places of the world stood empty and deserted among the incredible beauty of Taiwanese nature on the very shore of the ocean. Recently, it was decided to completely demolish the city, which was never lucky enough to become a popular resort.

Describing the most beautiful abandoned places in the world, one cannot fail to mention Varosha, which became a victim of the irreconcilable confrontation between Turkey and Greece. In the 70s. of the last century, the resort town was actively built up with tourist infrastructure, but everything stopped at one moment, when Turkish troops came to Varosha. Residents fled their homes in panic, hoping to return as soon as the conflict subsides. And now, for more than forty years, empty houses, gazing into the sea with gloomy eye sockets, are waiting for the return of their owners. Varosha was plundered in the very first years after it was empty. And now the houses themselves are beginning to disappear from the face of the earth, deforming under the influence of sea winds and the scorching sun.

The fate of this small mining town in Pennsylvania was mutilated by good intentions. In the bowels of the land of Centralia there were deposits of coal, because of which the city was built in this area. One day, while cleaning up the area, the local authorities decided to burn the garbage dumps. Landfills burned down, and with them, underground coal caught fire, setting up a serious fire in the bowels of the earth. It didn't take long to notice. But when people with carbon monoxide poisoning rushed to the hospitals, the streets began to shake after tremors and the earth's crust opened up in some places, the authorities decided to leave the city. Today, in the photo of the abandoned places of the world from Centralia, you can see several creepy houses, wild thickets, a cemetery and complete desolation. And coal still continues to burn underground.

This is interesting: it was Centralia that became the prototype of the notorious computer game, and then a series of films about Silent Hill - a ghost town shrouded in a thick layer of fog. True, there is no fog as such in Centralia, there are only light lazy wisps of smoke floating out from under the split asphalt.

The Italian Krako, built on rocks with a high level of seismic activity, got into the TOP of abandoned places in the world. The history of the city is 1000 years old, but even this did not save it from the crushing forces of nature. In 1963, local residents left their comfortable homes due to a real threat to life, and never returned. Empty streets, houses, roads were chosen by wild animals living in these mountain ranges. No one else saw people here.

Did you know? Hollywood became a real salvation for Kracko. It was in this abandoned city that such cult films as "The Passion of the Christ" and "Quantum of Solace" were filmed. Since the scenery for the films needed to look natural, but still neat and safe, part of Kracko was restored.

But this Japanese island in the East China Sea, the inhabitants left completely voluntarily. Once its surroundings abounded with coal deposits, and mining families lived here. At the time, the city's population density was one of the densest in the world. But over time, the coal dried up, and the workers had nothing to do on this small piece of land. So Hashima Island got into the most abandoned places in the world. It can be visited for tourism purposes, but it is no longer possible to live here - time and the elements do not spare even monumental strong buildings.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Germans found diamond deposits in the Namib Desert and founded the city of Kolmanskop, built with their usual accuracy and reliability. Even in difficult desert conditions, the city managed to thrive as long as there was work. When the reserves of diamonds ran out, then the inhabitants left the desert monastery. Now Kolmanskop is one of the 10 most abandoned places in the world, as the only inhabitants of its houses are hot desert sands and rare animals.

In the TOP of the most abandoned places in the world, one cannot do without the American island of Holland, named after the first inhabitant who set foot on local lands. Cut off from the big world, people here were engaged in agriculture, fishing, lived quietly and measuredly, without the fuss of big cities. However, people here were unable to argue with nature. The island suffered from flooding, storms and erosion. By 1922 there was not a single inhabitant left. All 360 islanders moved to the mainland, leaving 70 strong, reliable houses to be torn apart by the elements. In 2010, the last of them surrendered, and now only photos remind us that once there was a whole town on the Dutch island.

It is hard to imagine that an abandoned concrete structure in the impenetrable thickets of Sarajevo once served as an arena for the competition of the best lugers in the world. It was built in 1984 for the Winter Olympics, and successfully fulfilled its role. But a few years later, the then Yugoslavia was impressed by other competitions - the military, and they forgot about bobsleigh for many years. Thus, the abandoned places of our planet were replenished with another grandiose, but useless building.

Still enthusiastic about going on the spookiest and most interesting journey of your life? Then forward, to the abandoned places of the planet, photos with names and descriptions of which can be found in the guide. Stock up on courage, patience and be prepared for the most unexpected situations. Who knows what awaits you in-oh-he is around that corner!

These buildings were once invested in, people lived and worked there, and now they look like ghosts. But such objects, of course, attract with their mystery and give the city a certain charm.

The editors of the portal "ZagraNitsa" have selected a collection of the most original "abandons" of Moscow.

Plant named after Likhachev

st. Avtozavodskaya, 23

Not everyone knows that ZIL was originally called AMO and was conceived as a place for the production of Fiat cars. However, after the revolution, the plant was nationalized and for several years it was engaged only in car repairs, and only then it was retrained for domestically produced trucks. Likhachev developed the plant's turnover to 100,000 cars per year, and in the 1970s, ZIL produced 200,000 cars annually. In the 1990s, production fell and the plant is now largely abandoned. In theory, no one is allowed into the unused territory of almost 300 hectares, but in practice, of course, it is not guarded so well that those who wish could not get there.

Hadron Collider "Accelerator"

Simferopol highway, 97 km

In Protvino, the city of nuclear physicists, the only collider tunnel in Russia is located at a depth of 60 meters. The Accelerator began to be built in the 1980s and was almost completed in 1991, but was abandoned at the final stage. For 25 years, many structures have collapsed. The fate of the collider is being discussed - some want to seek funds to resume construction, others insist on destruction. Scientists argue that the disposal of the "Accelerator" can cause serious environmental consequences.

3

Yard on Malaya Sukharevskaya Square

Malaya Sukharevskaya Square, 6, p. 4

It is rather unusual that the courtyard in the very center of Moscow has not yet been rebuilt or used. The building of 1873 was once a significant decoration of Malaya Sukharevka, but 9 years ago there was a fire there, and the courtyard was badly damaged. Now this is a favorite place for those who like to take pictures in gloomy colors.

Water park "Akvadrom"

Aminevskoe highway, near the Kuntsevskaya metro station

In the late 1990s, a large-scale water park was planned here. However, due to disagreements between developers and investors, construction was stopped. Later, the Moscow authorities bought the right to own the unfinished premises and in 2007 sold it at an auction. There are plans to build a large shopping center here, but so far things have not gone further than plans. But Muscovites like to spend time indoors, taking pictures and painting walls with graffiti. They say that some episodes of the Brigade were even filmed here. Due to the emergency condition of the premises, accidents were recorded during its visits.

5

VIEV laboratory

st. Kuzminskaya, 10

The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine existed for 85 years in the Kuzminki region. Later, the institution was moved to Ryazansky Prospekt, and the old building was abandoned. It is believed that over the years of the laboratory's work, dangerous experiments on animals have been repeatedly carried out here. Whether the corpses and the chemicals used were properly disposed of is not known for certain. The laboratory is currently being tested and prepared for demolition.

6

School of Zoya and Alexander Kosmodemyansky

st. Zoya and Alexander Kosmodemyansky, 3, p. 1

The building of the Kosmodemyansky school, opened in 1956, was moved to a newer building in the early 2000s. The old building was going to be reconstructed, but it did not come to that. People without a fixed place of residence calmly settled down at the school, twice even arranging a fire there. If you are not afraid to meet them, you can even have an interesting time at school, finding things forgotten by students.

7

Lift on Sparrow Hills

st. Kosygin, 20

The 90-meter lift was supposed to serve as another exit from the station "Vorobyovy Gory" (then still "Leninskiye"). The reasons for its closure and desolation are not exactly known. They talk about landslides, lack of funding, and so on. Now it is an increasingly collapsing “abandonment”, with which at the moment nothing is planned to be done.

"Blue tooth" - business center "Zenith"

Prospect Vernadsky, 82

"Blue tooth", "iceberg", "ice", "crystal" - all these are unofficial associative names for the unfinished business center "Zenith" with an original design. This is a rather gloomy building with elevator shafts and protruding fittings. The business center is now owned by the state and is waiting for its new owner.

Khovrinsk hospital

st. Klinskaya, 2 building 1

The construction of the Khovrinsky hospital lasted 5 years in the first half of the 1980s. There are various rumors about the reasons for its termination - mostly they talk about the suspension of funding. The layout of the building is quite original - the hospital was built in the form of a star with three rays. Periodically, information appeared that sectarians and Satanists gathered in the building. In the early 1990s, a murdered girl was found on its territory. At the moment, getting into Khovrinskaya is quite difficult - the security of the hospital has been significantly strengthened.

10

Cinema "Yerevan"

Dmitrovskoe highway, 82

There are quite a large number of abandoned cinemas in Moscow, one of them is Yerevan. The last time they watched a movie here was in the early 90s. Then the art was slowly "moved" by the hardware store and back rooms. For 10 years the Yerevan building has been empty, its reconstruction is being discussed, but it has not yet begun to be implemented.
