Tenerife Airports: North Los Rodeos and South Reina Sofia. Official information about Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport

How to get from Tenerife North Airport to the cities of the island

Tenerife North Airport is not a very popular place among Russian tourists, since most flights from our country arrive in South. However, many fly through European cities, so they may end up in the North.

If you want to get from Tenerife North Airport, then it will cost about 2.5-3 euros to the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, about 2.5 euros to La Laguna, to Puerto de la Cruz – almost 5 euros. Naturally, prices may change over time, but this does not happen often.

There is one bus carrier operating on the island. You can use lines 102, 107, 108, 343.

Bus 102 runs from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to North Airport, then to Puerto de la Cruz and back. The bus is an express, in addition, it runs around the clock, during the day - with an interval of about 30 minutes, at night - less often. Bus 107 allows you to get from the airport to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Buenavista. It runs only a few times a day (if you need a schedule, then leave comments), but it also allows you to get to La Orotava. Another infrequently running bus is from Puerto de la Cruz Airport to Icod de los Vinos. Also about 10 flights a day, but with a stop in rare cities. Bus 343 connects the north and south of the island. You can get on it from Tenerife North Airport to South, and also come from Puerto de la Cruz to Los Cristianos. He walks from early morning to late evening, but quite rarely during the day.

How much does it cost to get from Tenerife Norte Airport to the center by taxi

In Spain, there are taxis with official rates, so you can calculate in advance how much your trip from Tenerife airport to the city by taxi will cost. There are two tariffs: the first is for working days from 6 am to 10 pm. The second is at night and on weekends. The minimum cost of a trip for the first one is 3.15 euros, for the second one - 3.45 euros. For a kilometer at the first rate, you will have to pay 0.55 euros, for the second - 0.63. Perhaps over time, prices will rise slightly, but this happens extremely rarely. Waiting also costs money - a few euros for every 15 minutes. In addition, everyone who arrives at the airport or leaves it must pay an additional 1.7 euros, and trips on holidays - December 24, 25 and January 5 are additionally paid. In general, a taxi is not a very profitable mode of transport, unless you get to a neighboring city. Buses are much more convenient.

The cozy and quiet town of Los Gigantes is located on the west coast of Tenerife - the largest island of the Canary archipelago. At the foot of the giant cliffs "Acantilado de Los Gigantes", a 500-meter wall breaks off to the Atlantic Ocean, and stretches along the coast for 10 kilometers. Due to its location, Los Gigantes is protected by a mountain range from the northern winds and some distance from the noisy tourist center of Las Americas, which gives the rest in this place a certain originality, which we will talk about now.

In fact, the resort, which tourists call Los Gigantes, consists of three administrative entities (La Arena, Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes). Once upon a time, these were completely separate settlements, merged into one whole due to rapid growth.

You can get to Los Gigantes from the South Airport either by taxi (about 55 euros) or by bus with a transfer at the bus station in Las Americas.
To do this, at the South Airport you need to take bus 111, which runs from 6:20 to 22:20 every half hour (and later at 23:20, 00:20, 1:05, 3:20, 4:55). Or on buses 450 or 343 (they run according to their schedule). Get to the bus station in Las Americas and transfer to bus 477 (goes the fastest) or or 473.

The trip in total will cost about 7-8 euros and will take about 2 hours.
But this year, the time spent on the road should be even more reduced. Since the builders promise to finish laying the Utopista No. 1 freeway all the way to Los Gigantes.

Climate in Los Gigantes

I think that I will not be mistaken if I call Los Gigantes the most comfortable place in Tenerife in terms of climate. Huge rocks protect it from the north from cold air masses. And the slopes of the Teide volcano shield from annoying east winds, which cause certain inconvenience to the residents of the capital Santa Cruz and the entire east coast of Tenerife.

Fluctuations in air and water temperature in Los Gigantes

In Los Gigantes, the difference between winter and summer temperatures is minimal. As a rule, in winter the air warms up to 17-19 degrees, and in summer to 23-25.

The water temperature is even more stable, as the island in this place is washed by the warm Atlantic current. In winter, the ocean here has a temperature close to 18 degrees, in summer the water reaches a temperature of 22 degrees. Rains are extremely rare, and the sun shines almost constantly.

Where to settle?

There are no luxury five-star hotels in Los Gigantes. And there are just a few large hotels here. Of these, the most popular is the four-star "Be Live Playa La Arena", located near the city beach "Playa de la Arena". And also the hotel Luabay Costa los Gigantes

But most vacationers rent apartments in Los Gigantes, of which there are a great many. And you can find accommodation for every taste.

Attractions Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is a small town built up mainly with low-rise apartment hotels and low-rise provincial-style buildings.

Here, even at the height of the season, it is not crowded and there is no resort bustle, such as, for example, in Las Americas. But everything you need for a comfortable stay is available. Lots of cafes, restaurants and shops where you can eat and buy everything you need.

The only thing that Los Gigantes does not have is noisy night parties and discos. Therefore, Los Gigantes is a favorite vacation spot for staid English and German tourists.

However, for those who want to have fun, it is not difficult to overcome the distance of 25 kilometers to Las Americas.

All tourists coming to Los Gigantes must visit the local port, which is considered the largest on the coast.

Beaches in Los Gigantes

Since the entire coast of Tenerife is formed by the hardened lava of the Teide volcano, there are not many natural beaches here. And all of them are covered with black sand, which is a volcanic rock rubbed by waves and winds.

Popular tourist destinations such as Las Americas have white sand beaches as well. But they are all artificial. Sand was brought here from the Sahara on barges.

There are three beaches in Los Gigantes, all with black sand. The first - Playa de los Guyos - is located between the port and the rocks.

Another - the smallest "Playa Chica" - in Puerto de Santiago.

And the most popular and comfortable urban beach "Playa de la Arena" is well known in Tenerife. Tourists come here even from Las Americas to lie on the signature black sand, which is very hot in the sun. And jump on the ocean waves. And they are here all the time, since the beach has no breakwaters.

conclusions

Los Gigantes is a cozy, quiet resort with comfortable weather both in winter and summer. Suitable for those who do not like fuss and noisy entertainment.

Valery MISHAKOV

The place Los Gigantes is ideal for lovers of a quiet comfortable stay. Vacationers at this resort will be able to enjoy the incredibly beautiful scenery, exciting fishing, diving, boat trips on yachts and beaches with black volcanic sand.

Watch my drone video:

Resting here, mostly respectable audience from Europe. Tourists of middle age, family prevail; few youth. In the port of the town there are yachts, pleasure boats await tourists. From here, small ships depart for excursions to the Maska Gorge and for fishing; here you can rent a kayak or a water scooter.

Good hotels in Los Gigantes:

Town of Puerto de Santiago

Coastal town of Puerto de Santiago (photo: Boris Busorgin)

Puerto de Santiago has a different character. There are fewer tourists in it than in Los Gigantes - only a few hotels have been built here. Mostly Canarians live in the town. Puerto de Santiago is a very cozy city, all of its buildings are built in the same Mediterranean style. It was formed on the site of a fishing settlement, and today, as before, the craft of a fisherman flourishes in it. Fresh catch goes to local restaurants. There are no equipped beaches within the city limits - vacationers prefer to swim in the neighboring resort.

Resort town of Playa de la Arena

Playa de la Arena is located south of its neighbors, in a rocky sunny bay. This resort is preferred by the British and Germans, most often by family vacationers. The main attraction is La Arena beach, the best in the city and the most crowded.

Lena and I moved to live in this area.

The beaches of this tourist area meet the needs of lovers of tranquility, comfort and warm waters.

Playa Los Chocos

Playa de la Arena

Playa de la Arena

La Arena (Playa de la Arena) - an excellent beach: sandy, the cleanest in Tenerife. A natural bay covers it with a wall of high rocks, but there are waves here, and quite serious ones. For small children, only a strip of two or three meters wide along the coast is safe - the depth begins further. There are a lot of people in the afternoon.

The sun is active here (protective cream is needed both on the beach and on ordinary walks). Black volcanic sand heats up nicely by lunchtime, it becomes difficult to walk on it. For the comfort of vacationers, wooden paths are laid all around, umbrellas and sunbeds are equipped. The toilet is paid - € 0.20. The length of the sand strip is 160 by 60 m. The Arena beach was awarded the Blue Flag for comfort. Lifeguards are constantly on duty here, safety information flags are posted on the water, and medical assistance is available.

Hotels near La Arena beach:

  • with meals All Inclusive
  • – close to the beach, also all inclusive.

Playa Los Chocos (closed)

In the town of Puerto de Santiago there is only one small beach - Playa los Chocos. A strip of volcanic sand covers an area of 65 by 25 m. This miniature recreation area is located in the waters of the old fishing port of Puerto Santiago. This natural sandy beach without special amenities is rarely visited by tourists, mostly locals rest here.

The beach constantly smells of sewage, maybe because of this it was closed for swimming.

Playa de los Guyos

This triangular beach of about 2400 m² is located at the foot of the stone cliffs on the outskirts of Los Gigantes, between the small port and the rocks. This is not the most popular vacation spot near the water - only tourists who live nearby rest there. Calle los Guios leads to the beach.

Playa de los Guios is famous for its stunning landscapes and unusually warm water. The coastal waves here are indeed a few degrees warmer than on neighboring beaches. The water is heated by rocks heated by the sun, submerged into the ocean for several tens of meters. On the beach, sun loungers, sunbeds, umbrellas, catamarans are rented.

Good hotels in Los Gigantes:

  • with excellent panoramic views of the ocean and mountains

natural pool

The ocean, raging off the western coast of Tenerife, often deprives vacationers of the opportunity to swim - the waves become too dangerous. Local residents came up with a worthy way out. Between the rocks and the crest of hardened lava near the shore, a semblance of a huge "bath" was formed. People supplemented the natural fencing of the natural pool with a concrete board. It became a barrier to the ocean elements.

The bath is located off the road. There is a sign at the parking lot leading to the gate to the beach. You can sunbathe here on a concrete side covered with algae, on a small stone platform or hilly rocks. Inside the sea "bath" it is calm and safe - high waves beat against a concrete barrier, flare up in the sun with spray and recede, leaving thousands of bubbles in the pool. Both the sight and the sensations are amazing.

Weather in Los Gigatnes

The climate of this place is ideal - very mild, stable. Temperature fluctuations during the year are no more than seven degrees (from +21 to +28 °C). The resort is perfectly protected from the wind: from the north - by the huge Teide volcano, from the west - by the grandiose rock formations of Los Gigantes. The water temperature during the year ranges from +19°С to +23°С.

How to get to Los Gigatnes?

Since there is no direct bus from Los Gigantes, you will have to get there with a change in Las Americas. Bus schedules and ticket prices can be found at titsa.com.

From Tenerife Sur airport, take any of the buses 111, 343, 450 or 470 to the Playa Americas (Estacion) stop. Travel time is about 25 minutes. The fare is € 2.20. Then transfer to bus number 473 or number 477 and go to the Los Gigantes stop. Travel time - 1 hour 20 minutes. The fare is € 4.65.

Another way to easily and conveniently get to the place is to rent a car. This can be done right at the airport. See more information about car rental.
