Cape Ai-Todor has been a natural monument since 1964. The name Ai-Todor means “Saint Theodore” in Greek. Cape Ai-Todor consists of three rocky spurs, forming an array almost inaccessible from the sea. Its southernmost tooth - the Ai-Todorsky spur itself - is the highest part of the cape.

In the early Middle Ages, there was a monastery of St. Theodore, who gave the name to the cape. Only a small cove with a beach is the only convenient marina. The remains of the Roman military camp of Charax, which existed in the 1st-3rd centuries, have been preserved.

In 1835, with the participation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea Fleet M.P. Lazarev, the Ai-Todor lighthouse was founded on the southernmost spur of the cape, which has been operating to this day and is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Black Sea.

The left (eastern) spur of the cape is called Limen-Burun (cape of the harbor from Greek), at its foot is the Sail rock. The middle spur is the Monastery-Burun, where the Avrorin rock is located with a beautiful castle "" on top. The western spur is Cape Kharaks, the famous estate of the Romanovs.

The first (left), eastern spur of Cape Ai-Todor is not without reason called Limen-Burun. "Liman" in Greek - a bay, a bay, a cape of a harbor. It is easy to recognize him by the rocky island - the Parus rock, standing in front of him in the sea. Only slightly protruding into the sea, Limen-Burun, nevertheless, has all the signs of the southern coast capes: hard rocks (Middle Jurassic limestones), steep steep slopes, a juniper grove above them - the remains of ancient coastal forests of a relict, most valuable tree in the Crimea. It is juniper, first of all, that owes its healing climate. A one-hectare grove of these trees can purify the air of a large industrial city.

At the top of Cape Limen-Burun (82 m) there is an observation platform "Captain's Bridge", hanging over the abyss, from which, like from the bridge of an ocean liner, a wide panorama of the Crimean coast opens. Everyone who has been here seems to fall into the realm of the sea and stone and is ready to admire the coast for hours. A sculpture of an eagle is installed a little lower, there are always a lot of gulls and cormorants here.

In front of the Limen-Burun spur, the Sail rock rises into the sea. At the very top of the spur there is a sculpture of an eagle, there are always a lot of gulls and cormorants.

Sail Rock is a part of Cape Limen-Burun, which broke away during an earthquake in 1927. For some time, the rock was connected to the isthmus cape, but after its destruction it became a separate rock in the Black Sea. The rock got its name because of the incredible resemblance to a sailboat, lonely on the whole sea and as if petrified for centuries.

For centuries, the sail has been able to withstand the formidable attacks of the sea, such stability is in the especially strong rock (marble-like limestone) of which it is composed.

Brave divers jump from a cliff into the sea, but such jumps are very dangerous. Despite the danger, people come to Sail to dive from all over the Crimea.

The rock itself is covered with legends and beliefs. The Crimean Sail has a twin brother in the Krasnodar Territory, in the Gelendzhik region. Only the Krasnodar stone sailboat seems to have moored to the shore - with one side it sinks into the water, and the other approaches the shore and is surrounded by a pebble beach; it is flatter and about 1 meter thick.

The middle spur of Cape Ai-Todor, the so-called Monastery, or Monastery-Burun, is, as expected, in the middle. It has another name - Aurora rock. Here, on the very top of the Aurora Rock, named after the ancient Roman goddess of the morning dawn, there is a Gothic castle - the Swallow's Nest.

The authentic history of the Swallow's Nest is little known and therefore intertwined with legends. But when it comes to a romantic castle, when we long for a miracle, even a small one, the legend may turn out to be truer, more natural than random life events.

From the sea, at the foot of the Aurora Rock, you can find several underwater caves and even dive there, illuminating the path with a waterproof lantern. The popularity and even fame of these places was given by the episodes of the long-standing, unforgettable film "Amphibian Man" filmed here. The lair of the "sea devil" Ichthyander was located under this rock. And 15 years later, Stanislav Govorukhin filmed "Ten Little Indians" in the same rocks.

The western spur of Cape Ai-Todor is called Cape Kharaks. The southernmost spur - Cape Ai-Todor spur Kharaks - the highest part of the cape. Since ancient times, it served as a guide on the way of navigators. Returning from his "walking beyond the three seas", on the way from to the famous traveler Afanasy Nikitin rounded this cape in the 15th century.

In 1835, a lighthouse was built on top of the spur. The lighthouse stands at the highest point - at a height of 156 m. Its light is visible for 27 nautical miles. Not far from the lighthouse, the remnants of the centuries-old southern coastal forest have been preserved: thickets of high juniper, kev tree, downy oak, etc. Strong winds, common for these places, gave the crowns of the local trees a flag-like shape.

Of greatest interest is growing on the very top, near the lighthouse, a giant thousand-year-old keve tree, which is included in the Red Book of Ukraine. This is one of the oldest trees in Crimea.

In the 1st century A.D. e. the Roman conquerors erected their fortress Charax on the cape. This is evidenced by the remains of stone walls and towers, numerous household items and fragments of military armor found on Ai-Todor by archaeologists.
