Whose airline. Whose company is azur air - interesting events and facts. Rating of the safest airlines in Russia

For many years in our country, Aeroflot has been considered the No. 1 company among air carriers, noticeably winning in many respects. Hundreds of people fly on this company's planes every day, most of whom have luggage with them, and almost every passenger has hand luggage.

To avoid unpleasant situations, you need to find out in advance the baggage allowance in Aeroflot 2019, and focus on them while preparing for the trip.

How to carry luggage with Aeroflot?

To have the most complete understanding of the passenger baggage control system, you should find out the basic concepts and rules of transportation:

  • All belongings of passengers are divided into baggage and hand luggage. Bags and suitcases that are carried in a separate compartment of the aircraft and are marked with a special tag are called checked baggage.
  • A passenger can take hand luggage and the most important things, such as a handbag, with him into the cabin.
  • All items for transportation must go through a mandatory screening procedure at the airport for security purposes.
  • Every traveler can count on both personal and luggage.
  • On all Aeroflot destinations, a single calculation of the registration of bags is made, that is, by the number of seats. This calculation is carried out depending on the selected ticket class and fare on a particular route.

Aeroflot free baggage allowance

In the economy class of Aeroflot, the baggage allowance is 1 piece for bags or suitcases, while it should not exceed 23 kg. If an air passenger purchases a ticket in economy class at premium fares, then he is entitled to two free seats weighing no more than 23 kg.

Comfort class passengers can also carry two pieces of baggage not exceeding 23 kg free of charge. At the same time, in all classes, weight is determined not by the total amount, but by individual baggage.

The maximum size for transporting baggage is also indicated for business class. When buying such a ticket, you can carry two pieces of baggage, the weight of each must not exceed 32 kg.

Another important rule of Aeroflot's 2019 baggage allowance is that if you measure a thing by length, width and height, then the total amount should not be more than 158 cm.

The next point that must be taken into account is this. Dimensions are determined by three components - width, height and thickness, which should have the following average values - 55 * 40 * 20 cm. And the total amount of dimensions of things that can be taken into the cabin of the aircraft according to free norms does not exceed 115 cm.

Air passengers purchasing an economy and comfort class ticket can carry one piece of hand luggage in the cabin free of charge, the weight of the item is not more than ten kg. Business class buyers are also entitled to one piece of baggage in the cabin of the aircraft according to a free standard, the maximum weight is 15 kg.

Sometimes Aeroflot conducts codeshare flights with other airlines, which are called codeshare. In this case, the free baggage allowances set by the partner firm will apply. Rossiya Airlines and Avrora belong to the Aeroflot group of companies, so the same rules apply there as when flying on the flights of the main Russian air carrier.

Baggage allowance 1pc Aeroflot 2019 – what does it mean? Such a phrase is on the ticket and means the amount of free baggage carried by the passenger. The figure indicates the number of bags or suitcases - from 1 to 3, including luggage and things transported in the cabin.

How much do I need to pay for excess baggage in Aeroflot?

In which case will you need to pay extra for overweight? Items fall into the category of excess baggage if they exceed the norm in terms of the number of pieces, dimensions or weight.

When, according to the rules, a passenger is allowed to take only one place in a separate compartment with things, then 2,500 rubles must be paid for the second additional bag or suitcase. For every third, fourth, fifth and more place you have to pay 7,500 rubles. Also, 7,500 for each additional item will be paid by travelers who are entitled to two free compartments per bag or suitcase in a special compartment.

Where do I need to pay for Aeroflot's excess baggage? This is usually done in the next window not far from the check-in counters. In any case, you can always check with any of the airport staff.

If free or paid baggage weighs more than the established standards, but not more than 32 kg, then the passenger will have to pay 2,500 rubles for overweight. And with the weight of a unit of transported items from 32 to 50 kg, you must pay 5 thousand rubles for the excess.

In 2019, Aeroflot also sets the baggage and carry-on baggage allowances for dimensions. If three dimensions are exceeded, 5,000 rubles should be paid, if the total amount is not more than two meters 3 centimeters. With the sum of dimensions over 203 cm, 7500 is paid for each piece of baggage. At the same time, in all cases, we are talking about both free and additionally paid things.

To summarize all of the above, we note how many things Aeroflot passengers can take with them:

  1. Buyers of an economy ticket can transport luggage up to 23 kg and items for storage in the cabin up to 10 kg free of charge.
  2. When buying a premium fare in economy, it is allowed to carry two baggage pieces of 23 kg each, hand luggage up to 10 kg - the same conditions apply to comfort class passengers.
  3. Business ticket air passengers can take two items weighing up to 32 kg each and 1 item for storage in the cabin up to 15 kg.

If you did not find the information you need, please follow this link. You will be taken to the official website of Aeroflot, where you can ask a question to the customer support service about the rules and conditions of baggage allowance.

It's just pointless to talk about it. On a family trip, you can’t do without suitcases and bulky bags, baby strollers and other things necessary for a small passenger, most of which go on a flight in the luggage compartment of an aircraft.

And in order for everything to go smoothly at the airport, it is important to know in advance how many things you can carry for free, what are the allowed dimensions and weight of luggage for the ticket purchased at the selected airline, how to organize the transportation of your things correctly, how to transport non-standard large items, what to do in some emergency situations , for example, if luggage is suddenly lost or it turns out that there are too many things in the luggage. And today is just about that.

General baggage rules

Air carriers around the world are extremely concerned about flight safety. And for this, strict standards and rules of transportation are being developed. Among the priority norms is the calculation of the maximum baggage weight per passenger. Because excess weight on board is a direct threat to the safety of passengers.

All things with which a passenger goes on a flight can be called in one word "baggage", which is conventionally divided into:

  • checked baggage - bags, suitcases, boxes and other items with which the passenger leaves at check-in at the airport, entrusting the care of them to his employees;
  • hand luggage - bags, packages and suitcases that will be with him until the end of the flight. Previously, a special tag was attached to them. Under the new rules, no;
  • personal belongings that are transported free of charge in excess of the established one (for a complete list, see clause 135 of the Russian Aviation Regulations (FAR)).

Air travel around the world is highly regulated. All airlines-carriers and passengers are obliged to obey the established Rules. For Russian airlines in terms of carrying passengers and baggage, various regulations and rules for air transportation are applied, which were amended in accordance with Law No. 409 of October 5, 2017.

According to the law on non-refundable tickets, not only some hand luggage and baggage allowances have changed, but Russian airlines have the opportunity to offer passengers cheaper tickets without baggage, that is, without free baggage, independently determining for which fare to provide baggage.

However, for passengers with tickets that include baggage, a single free baggage allowance has been introduced. This rate cannot be reduced. And if the carrier wants to be generous and increase the allowed limit upwards, please. This is not forbidden.

Each carrier has the right to change and establish its own standards, without going beyond the established general rules and without worsening the conditions for servicing passengers. The limit value may be different (it depends on the rules of the carrier, the type of aircraft, the duration and direction of the flight, the cost of the ticket and the class of service), but its maximum weight is limited - no more than 30 kg (previously it was 32 kg) for one seat. Foreign airlines have their own rules that comply with the laws of their countries.

Each specific situation has its own nuances. In order not to be mistaken, be sure to specify the weight and dimensions of your free baggage, the parameters of which are indicated for a specific fare on the ticket. This information can also be found on the carrier's website.

How much will you have to pay for the transfer?

Sometimes it happens that at the counter at the airport it suddenly turns out that the suitcase weighs more than indicated on the purchased ticket, and the free baggage allowance is exceeded by some parameter: by weight, size or number of seats (depending on the company's rules). There's nothing you can do about it, in most cases you will have to pay extra for the advantage.

The amounts of surcharges are different: from 2500 to 7500 rubles for domestic flights and up to 200 euros for international flights. The amount depends on the carrier's policy (some will turn a blind eye to a small overweight of 1-2kg, while others may bill in full) and how big the overweight is.

Most often, airlines have the following restrictions:

  • for economy class - 1 free seat (suitcase / bag) no more than 20-23 kg;
  • for business class - 2 pieces of baggage (each no more than 30-32 kg);
  • according to the sum of three dimensions (length, width, height), luggage should not exceed 158 cm (or 203 cm).

Sometimes it is more profitable to fly on an expensive ticket with heavy luggage than in economy class with a surcharge for overweight.

Within the maximum allowed limit (at international airports - this is 1 piece of baggage no more than 32 kg, according to Russian rules - no more than 30 kg), it is allowed to carry baggage in excess of the free allowance. In this case, you will have to pay extra according to the carrier's tariffs for excess baggage (that is, for baggage that is not included in the cost of the purchased fare ticket) and coordinate the transportation of such baggage with it.

As for low-cost airlines, they often do not have free luggage. For example, in Russia, all baggage at a standard non-refundable rate is paid, and its cost depends on the weight and number of pieces. It is allowed to take into the cabin any safe items (regardless of their weight and any lists) that can be squeezed through a measuring frame with dimensions of 36 x 30 x 27 cm.

How to transport oversized and heavy baggage?

Heavy baggage - according to Russian rules, this is everything that exceeds the weight of one piece of 30 kg.

Oversized baggage is an excess of the baggage allowance in terms of dimensions, that is, 1 piece is more than 203 cm (or 158 cm, as in most airlines). When specifying the size of a suitcase (bag) when packed, wheels, handles, and pockets are taken into account.

For excess weight, as well as for exceeding the dimensions, you will have to pay.

Depending on the weight limit established in a particular company (in the order of the Ministry of Transport, the maximum weight of baggage allowed for transportation is 50 kg) and size (exceeding 270-320 cm in total), such heavy and large baggage may not be accepted for transportation even for money.

What should the passenger do in this case? Such items can be sent (of course, after agreeing this with the carrier) along the route as unaccompanied cargo, which is accepted at the cargo terminal in the cargo service of the company. You can receive your baggage at the airport of arrival using the air waybill received during baggage check-in.

What to do if you have non-standard baggage?

Most often these are large, unusual and heavy things: musical instruments, snowboards and surfboards, skis, household appliances (washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, TVs, vacuum cleaners) and more. For the carriage of such baggage, airlines prescribe special conditions, indicating the maximum size, weight and contents of one set of baggage, which it is advisable to familiarize yourself with in advance.

Non-standard baggage (most often sports equipment) can be transported free of charge as an addition to the rest of the baggage or as regular baggage within the limits of the ticket fare or for an additional charge. Special conditions may apply, such as the absence of size restrictions that apply to regular baggage. For some types of such non-standard baggage, a fixed fee is charged.

Items listed in paragraph 136 of the Federal Aviation Rules (baby strollers, walkers, wheelchairs and other baggage) are transported free of charge in checked baggage if it is impossible to place them in the cabin without violating comfortable and safe conditions for passengers.

Lucky for those who travel with skis and snowboards. Many carriers (for example, Aeroflot from November 1 to May 15) allow passengers to carry ski equipment and snowboards free of charge in addition to the main baggage or at no extra charge if they fit into the free weight baggage allowance (often without a size limit).

But, again, you need to double-check everything for reliability. For example, low-fare airlines and low-cost airlines often do not have the option of free transportation of sports equipment. And in some, the allowable weight (usually 20-23 kg) is reduced to 10 kg.

Some destinations (usually for long flights) sometimes have their own rules that allow you to carry sets of equipment of a certain weight for surfing and diving at no extra charge during certain periods.

You can also carry golf bags, hockey sticks, fishing rods, musical instruments for free, if the established norms are not violated. But if the weight, size, number of seats exceed the free rate, then all of the above will go on a flight only with a surcharge.

The passenger is obliged to discuss the transportation of such cargo with the carrier company in advance (36 hours before departure). Because it may happen that the airline does not have conditions for carrying such non-standard baggage (the size of the cargo does not correspond to the type of aircraft or baggage of this size simply cannot be placed on board). Without a preliminary agreement, it may simply not be accepted from you due to lack of free space.

If it turns out that it is not possible to organize the transportation of non-standard and heavy baggage, then it may be possible to send it as ordinary baggage with payment for exceeding the free allowance.

Transportation of fragile luggage

Very often, airline passengers have questions about what to do with fragile and breakable things. It is safest (if possible) to carry such luggage in the cabin, having issued it as hand luggage. If this is not possible, luggage is checked in at check-in with an announcement that it requires particularly careful transportation. If this option is provided by this airline, a special sticker is glued to the cargo and things are delivered on board manually, and not in the total mass of suitcases on the tape.

Experienced travelers who often fly with non-standard baggage claim that, although there are many different nuances, if you strictly follow the rules of the carrier, everything usually goes as normal.

Tip: when transporting expensive and fragile items, it is advisable to insure the baggage and send it with a declared value (this service will have to be paid).

And, of course, there is a list of items that will not be allowed to be carried in baggage under any pretext for security reasons.

What is forbidden to be transported on an airplane?

Most airlines cannot carry:

  • everything that ignites and explodes easily (including firecrackers, sparklers, flares, gunpowder, cartridges, matches, gasoline and gas lighters, solvents, paints, gasoline, acetone, ethyl alcohol and others);
  • gases of various types (liquefied, poisonous, compressed, including cartridges for burners and refills for lighters);
  • radioactive, toxic, easily oxidizing and corrosive substances (all kinds of acids, alkalis, mercury and devices containing it);
  • rechargeable (lithium-ion) batteries with a capacity of more than 160 Wh (if the power of devices is from 100 to 160 Wh, they are allowed to be transported inside the equipment with the permission of the airline, up to 100 Wh in laptops, phones, inside equipment, while spare batteries can be transported only in hand luggage);
  • any sharp, heavy, cutting objects that may be potentially dangerous to others;
  • firearms, cold steel, electric shock weapons without special permits;
  • electronic cigarettes, magnetized items.

This list is quite large. It is set out in Appendix 1 to the Rules for conducting pre-flight and post-flight inspections No. 104 dated July 25, 2007.

Are children eligible for checked baggage?

For small travelers from 2 to 12 years old, the same baggage allowance applies as for adult passengers. For babies (up to two years old) without a separate seat, free baggage allowance is allowed weighing up to 10 kg and not more than 115 cm in the sum of measurements.

Can luggage be combined?

The new rules retain the ability to combine items into one baggage at the request of passengers traveling together (two or more) under certain conditions. Moreover, one piece of such combined baggage, according to Russian rules, cannot be heavier than 30 kg and exceed 203 cm in size.

Traveling families with one suitcase are sometimes met halfway and they are forgiven for a slight advantage. But still, in practice, much depends on the captiousness of employees. In each case, this is decided individually.

It is not always possible to carry one heavy bag instead of two light bags on foreign trips: European trade unions take care of their loaders and prohibit the lifting of luggage in excess of the norm.

Naturally, there are exceptions for bulky baggage that cannot be separated (musical instruments, equipment and equipment for sports, etc.).

What to do if luggage is lost?

You landed, and your things on the tape did not appear? Don't panic. But some actions need to be taken immediately, without leaving the arrivals area. Locate the staff of the airline making the flight who are looking for lost baggage, and presenting them with a ticket, baggage ticket, passport, issue an official written request.

According to Russian laws, the search for lost baggage can take 21 days (how such a search takes place can be tracked on the website using an online service in some airlines). When the missing luggage is found, the carrier is obliged to deliver it to the address indicated by the passenger free of charge.

If, after three weeks, the luggage has not been found or has been found, but partially or completely damaged, you can apply for compensation to the airline.

International rules set the maximum amount of compensation payments in case of loss of baggage or its partial damage. In fact, in each specific situation, the amount of compensation is determined by the airline and depends on its internal rules. In case of refusal to compensate for the damage caused, you should apply to the court.

How to pay less for luggage?

Universal advice for such a case - do not take too much. Sometimes even a small advantage can cause big problems. Especially if this is a trip abroad or you have to use the services of several airlines.

Here you can not do without studying the rules that apply to different carriers along the route. Otherwise, even with an excess of 1-2 kg, you will have to pay extra. And not only this. European movers, who are prohibited by their unions from lifting luggage heavier than 32 kg, may simply refuse to deliver such a load.

Be especially careful when purchasing low-cost tickets from low-cost airlines or at a no-baggage fare. Often, in which case such tickets cannot be returned, and you will have to fly light.

Baggage restrictions may be encountered when purchasing tickets at promotional rates and promotions, when using bonuses. Such flights, at first glance, financially advantageous, sometimes offer lower baggage allowances than the standard fare, or even offer a choice of either checked baggage or hand luggage.

There is only one way out - try to take things a little less and leave at least some weight reserve up to the norm established by the carrier, which you need to familiarize yourself with in advance, and take this into account when packing your luggage at home. To do this, weighing your weight with and without luggage on floor scales, it is easy to make simple calculations and get rid of everything superfluous if something happens and repack your suitcase without hassle and fuss.

Experienced travelers are advised to put on the heaviest shoes and plenty of clothes before the flight, small heavy items can be carried in pockets. Do not take a large amount of care products and cosmetics (sometimes the cost of buying them on the spot is much less than what you have to spend on paying for the overweight).

And you can find a lot of such life hacks. Another of them is the ability to properly pack a suitcase. You can read about what you need to do to take everything you need and save on luggage in this article.

For passenger air transportation are installed.

In particular, these rules provide for two types of baggage:

  1. paid;
  2. free.

A specific type is determined by several components:

  • baggage dimensions, that is, its dimensions - height, width and length;
  • duration of the flight - the further you fly, the more stringent the requirements;
  • direction of flight - in this case, climatic conditions are implied;
  • passenger service class.

To determine the specific amount of things for free baggage allowance on an airplane around the world, two specially developed assessment systems are used:

  1. weight - depending on the total weight;
  2. quantitative - depending on the number of bags, suitcases, etc.

Aircraft weight system standards

The weight system indicates the maximum allowable weight of baggage allowed for free carriage on an aircraft per passenger. The vast majority of air carriers use the same, generally accepted standards.

In particular, if we talk about adult passengers and children who are already two or more years old, then the maximum limit norms are allowed for transportation:

  • in the first class - 40 kilograms;
  • in business class - 30 kilograms;
  • in the economy class - 20 kilograms.

The total mass includes both the luggage itself and what is commonly called hand luggage, which the passenger takes with him to the cabin of the aircraft.

Note! If changes are made to these rules, passengers are informed about them in advance. Detailed information about the features of baggage transportation on the plane is printed on the tickets.

In addition to weight, restrictions are also imposed on the dimensions of luggage. They are calculated as the sum of the length, height and width of the bag or suitcase. For the first and business class, the maximum allowable dimensions are 203 centimeters, and for the economy class - 158 centimeters.

Note! Free transportation of hand luggage in the cabin is allowed only if its weight is not more than ten kilograms, and its dimensions do not exceed 115 centimeters.

Separately, free transportation of things is allowed for each child who is under two years old at the time of the flight and for which parents do not purchase a separate ticket - the weight of the cargo in this case should not exceed ten kilograms.

Features of baggage transportation during transatlantic flights

A separate system is provided for transatlantic flights. In particular, it strictly limits the number of places reserved for the carriage of baggage:

  • regardless of the class of service, the passenger has the right to no more than two places for the free transportation of things and items, for each seat on the aircraft, a load of no more than 32 kilograms is provided;
  • the weight of both seats does not add up;
  • if, for example, the weight of one load is 35 kilograms, and the second is only 20 kilograms, then in this case an additional payment for an excess of three kilograms is required in the first case.

Allowed baggage dimensions are the same as above - in first and business class they should not exceed 203 centimeters, and in economy class - 158 centimeters.

Note! In the case when the cargo exceeds the overall norms, then its transportation on the plane is possible only upon agreement with the employees of the airline operating the flight. They will indicate exactly how you need to check in your luggage, and whether transportation is allowed at all. Clear conditions for the carriage of cargo are indicated when booking a boarding pass.

Loading and unloading of things of passengers of any type and for all types of flights, regardless of the complexity and distance of the flight, are carried out by the company performing the transportation at its own expense.

What can I take on a plane over the weight limit

In addition to baggage, you can take certain things into the cabin of the aircraft, they are not added to the total weight of the cargo:

  • women's handbag;
  • flowers (a bouquet of reasonable size is available);
  • a coat or other warm clothing suitable for a particular season;
  • plaid;
  • camera or video camera;
  • laptop or tablet;
  • a book;
  • folded umbrella or cane;
  • foldable baby stroller;
  • product package.
Note! Certain valuables are highly recommended by airline employees to be carried in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. These things include documents, jewelry, medicines (if you do not need them during the flight).

What is excess cargo

If the volume of your baggage even slightly exceeds the allowable allowance for free transportation established by the flight rules, it is called excess baggage. If you know that you have just such a cargo, then it is recommended to arrive at the airport in advance in order to calmly carry out advance clearance.

The cost of transporting such items on an airplane directly depends on the tariffs in force on the day of payment. After payment, the passenger must receive a receipt, which indicates the weight of the cargo and the amount charged.

What can not be transported for free

There is a list of things and items that in any case are not eligible for free carriage on an airplane, regardless of their weight. Those items are:

  • large musical instruments, which can only be transported in the cabin - a separate place is purchased for their transportation;
  • any animals.

Such baggage is paid strictly in accordance with the tariffs that are valid on the day of payment.

Irregular baggage

Special mention deserves non-standard luggage. These items include fragile products, as well as those things that, for some reason, need to be transported directly in the cabin - for this you need to separately buy a seat, that is, as if you were buying a ticket for another satellite. The weight of such cargo, according to the generally accepted rules of aviation companies, cannot exceed 75 kilograms.

However, there are separate rules and restrictions regarding the transportation of such goods by passenger aircraft. They are the same for the vast majority of airlines.

  1. Oversized cargo is considered to be the cargo, the dimensions and weight of which even slightly exceed the established norms - in this case, a separate passenger seat is required for its transportation, and the seat is separately purchased by the owner of the cargo.
  2. In the event that the weight of oversized cargo exceeds the established 75 kilograms, the passenger will be forced to buy the appropriate number of tickets. For example, if the weight of the cargo is 155 kilograms, then its owner buys three additional seats in the cabin.

By the way, tickets for the transportation of such baggage on an airplane are sold at standard fares, since discounts are not provided in this case. Even if these are special discounts designed for:

  • children;
  • crew members of the airlines on which the flight is made;
  • students.

Therefore, you will have to pay for the ticket at the rate for a regular flight, and be sure to take into account the class of the cabin, which is natural.

Note! Tickets purchased for the transportation of any oversized items do not allow the owners of such cargo to carry out one more free transportation of baggage that fits into the company's standards.

Non-standard cargo, which exceeds the free baggage allowance, in some cases may be transported in the baggage compartment of the aircraft. Large-sized cargoes of this type include:

  • a variety of musical instruments of any type;
  • a wheelchair, especially if it does not fold;
  • baby stroller, especially if it does not fold;
  • bicycles, etc.

All conditions of transportation are negotiated and agreed upon by representatives of the airline and the owner of the cargo. Arrangements are made in advance.

Restrictions on the carriage of objects and substances on the plane

All airlines use a special list, which indicates substances and items that are strictly prohibited for carriage on aircraft. These include:

  • gasoline and other combustible oil products;
  • explosives and other explosive, combustible objects of various types.

It is worth noting that a separate category includes items and substances that are strictly prohibited by security services from taking into the aircraft cabin, but which can be transported in the luggage compartment without any restrictions. Among these items, it is worth highlighting various piercing and cutting, sharp products.

In conclusion

The described baggage allowances are valid for scheduled air carriers. But for budget companies, the so-called low-cost, the allowable allowances for the carriage of goods differ, which is natural and understandable, downwards. At the same time, some of the budget companies generally refuse free transportation of luggage on the plane, or even set an incredibly high surcharge for the minimum excess.

Note! The baggage allowance on charter flights is set by those who charter the aircraft. Most often - these are travel companies.

If we talk about excess cargo on regular flights, then it is recommended to pay for them at the time of buying tickets - this is not only cheaper, but also easier, since it will save you time on processing cargo at the airport.

Note! The current rules for carrying baggage on an airplane may differ from the above. We recommend that you check with the air carrier when buying tickets.

The long-awaited vacation time is coming and many Russians will go on vacation by plane. For those who decide to use the flight of a new airline or who have not yet flown, the question arises: “How many kilograms can I carry on an airplane?”. Each airline may have its own baggage allowance.

The surest decision would be to find out all the useful information in advance, and then pack your bags. Necessary to find out:

  • What size luggage is allowed (bags, suitcases…).
  • What is the free baggage allowance.
  • What can be in hand luggage.
  • Everything about extra weight.

Most often, airlines use weight control, although there is also a quantitative assessment of baggage (number of seats). For example, a bicycle, a set of golf equipment, skis will be regarded as one piece of baggage, while size and weight are not important. In addition to the individual requirements of each company, there is a gradation by class - the more expensive and higher the class, the more baggage you can carry on the plane for free.

Sometimes it happens that the luggage taken with you exceeds the allowable norm, in which case it is worth using the service of paid baggage transportation, paying for the weight taken in excess of the norm.

Everything that the passenger is going to carry must be presented during check-in for the flight. Such measures are taken for the safety of this flight.

Baggage allowances on most airlines:

  • Economy - class - up to 20 kilograms
  • Business class - 30 kilograms
  • First class - up to 40 kilograms

These weight limits include the weight of the luggage itself, and the weight of hand luggage.

There are also size restrictions:

  • Economy - class - up to 158 cm
  • First and business class - 203 cm

In addition, for a small child under two years old, the baggage allowance should not exceed 10 kilograms.

In excess of the weight limit, you can carry in the cabin only things:

  • handbag
  • coat
  • blanket or scarf
  • cane
  • camera
  • plastic bag
  • book or magazine
  • small
  • baby carriage
  • bouquet of flowers

If you suddenly have to transport oversized baggage, then when buying tickets, you need to discuss its weight and dimensions and pay the airline for excess overload. After that, you can safely and happily go on the road.

Perhaps one of the most important concerns for tourists is, of course, luggage. Passengers have heard stories of suitcases getting lost or missing after a long delay or, in the worst case, getting lost.

Repeatedly, many have witnessed when, during check-in, many passengers were forced to pay extra for the excess of their luggage. Therefore, this article will discuss what rules apply when flying with luggage.

General points for transporting baggage on an airplane

It must be admitted that a flight without luggage at all is often a rarity. At a minimum, a passenger always has hand luggage, a handbag or a laptop with him. The bulk of things during the flight, of course, is handed over as luggage. Do not forget about the standard free baggage allowance accepted by the airline. At the same time, each company establishes its own individual rules, if for some air carriers a load of up to 30 kilograms is checked in free of charge, then in others you will have to pay extra for such a weight.

All companies, with the exception of only low-cost airlines, allow free transportation of one piece for economy class customers, but its maximum weight varies and often ranges from 20 to 23 kilograms, the excess is paid separately.

It should be noted that for each child under two years old who does not have his own seat, about 10 kilograms of free baggage is allocated.

The weight of one piece of baggage, based on the rules of international airports, should not exceed, as is customary, 32 kilograms, so if the total weight of the passenger’s things exceeds the specified norm, then you will need to buy a ticket for second place, while spending a decent amount of money. True, this mainly applies only to economy class customers, since most airlines automatically provide tickets for first and business class passengers with two pieces of luggage.

In order to avoid unpleasant situations, additional coordination with the company's employees is required, for example, by phone.

When traveling as a couple, many passengers try to use the following trick: instead of carrying all their things in two bags, they put everything in one. It is clear that the weight of baggage in this case exceeds the norm for one piece, but does not exceed the total permitted weight for two.

But if you read the rules of airlines, then this combination of baggage is prohibited by companies.

On the other hand, it often happens that for one piece of baggage that has a weight greater than the free norm, but less than the ceiling of 32 kilograms, no additional payment is required. It depends directly on the employees of the aviation company whose services you use, as well as the strictness in observing the established rules and do not forget about the trade union of loaders who dictate their conditions in the maximum weight of the suitcase.

Rules for transporting hand luggage

Hand luggage is personal belongings, the size and weight of which do not exceed the established airline standards and are placed on board the aircraft without posing a threat to passengers.

Regarding the weight of hand luggage, it often differs for most airlines - someone has 5-10 kilograms, some have 15.

The carry-on baggage allowance depends directly on the specific class:

    one seat in business class, "President", "Premier". Weight is up to 15 kilograms, the sum of three geometric measurements is 115 centimeters.

    One seat in economy class. The weight of hand luggage must not exceed 10 kilograms, and the sum of measurements is 115 centimeters.

Regardless of this, in addition to carry-on baggage, items such as coats, handbags, a bag with a camera or laptop, a blanket and orthopedic devices can be included.

These things, respectively, are not weighed during registration, are not marked with tags, and, accordingly, are not issued.

A separate point is also that many passengers buy tickets for flights at once in several airlines that have a code-share agreement. It should be understood that a code share does not mean at all that the rules for carrying baggage will be identical. In this case, it is better to familiarize yourself with the baggage transportation standards of both airlines so as not to accidentally overdo it with weight.

What can be carried in hand luggage

According to the rules of airlines, when transporting hand luggage, the transport of various liquids, creams, toothpastes, deodorants, aerosols, and gels is limited.

Under certain conditions, it is allowed to take a certain amount of the following substances in hand luggage:

    liquid or other substance must be packed in a container with a volume of not more than 100 milliliters;

    all funds must be folded into a plastic bag, the volume of which is not more than 1 liter;

    one passenger has the right to have only one given package among the items of hand luggage;

    bags must be transparent and closed with a zipper.

The only exception in this case is baby food, which is actually constantly needed for feeding during the flight, and medicines, which are indispensable during the flight. All companies allow their transportation in sufficient quantities, which is provided for by the rules of the airlines. At the same time, they must be opened and carefully checked by employees at the checkpoint.

To avoid unpleasant situations, it is better to take care in advance and familiarize yourself with the list of prohibited items for transportation in hand luggage. These items are best left in the luggage room or checked in as luggage.

It is allowed to purchase various drinks, perfumes or other liquids after passing the baggage check. But it is worth remembering that they must, if necessary, be packed and sealed on board the aircraft or in the DutyFree store.

How not to overpay for luggage

As ironic as it may sound, the best way is not to take too many things. But, as you know, this does not always work out. Extra pounds in luggage is sometimes quite a significant loss for your budget. Can this be avoided?

There are a few things you can do to save your budget:

1. When buying tickets, always read the established free baggage allowance and try to take this into account when packing your suitcase.

2. It is best to weigh your luggage at home. You can do this even on a regular floor scale and calculate the difference between your total weight with luggage and weight, respectively, without luggage. This will avoid the hassle at the airport.

3. If, nevertheless, you find that the weight does not correspond to the norm, pull out things that you can put on yourself. Of course, not by much, but your suitcase will become lighter. Pockets can also help out, you just need to put small, but heavy objects in them. Do not forget that many things that are quite heavy, such as phones, cameras and related accessories, can be taken in hand luggage. It should be noted that small but heavy items can be placed in a laptop bag.

4. First, check the weight of the luggage, only then pack it in a plastic bag. This is necessary in order to save time on repacking.

5. Sometimes it is much cheaper to buy the necessary shampoos, toothpastes, gels, sunblocks immediately on the spot than to overpay for them in the form of excess weight in luggage.

6. To save on luggage, you can use a good service - buy food, drinks, as well as souvenirs in DutyFree.

7. Try to limit yourself to a travel bag or suitcase, which, in terms of dimensions and weight, fits the definition of “hand luggage”. This will avoid many procedures, such as checking in luggage or waiting for it to be received. In this case, your luggage will definitely not be lost.

8. Travelers with experience say that about 50% of things do not return home.

9. Light luggage, in fact, is not only money saved, but also a great opportunity to travel in comfort.

Luggage and low-cost airlines

Budget airlines sometimes have not only the lowest fares, but also quite cunning baggage allowances. The bottom line is that the passenger will have to pay for a unit of goods, regardless of how many kilograms he weighs. Also, various low-cost airlines show a lot of imagination in matters of baggage fees.

FlyDubai

Free transportation in economy class: one piece of hand luggage weighing about 7 kilograms and measuring up to 56 * 45 * 25 centimeters, as well as a handbag or a bag with a laptop, a DutyFree package or a business briefcase. The total weight is up to 10 kilograms.

Hand luggage allowance for business class: 2 pieces of luggage with the same dimensions and weight, each up to 15 kilograms in total. In economy class, paid carriage is paid a little in advance, this applies to baggage weighing up to 20 kilograms. To transport excess baggage weighing up to about 40 kilograms, all issues must be resolved in advance with the carrier. A piece of baggage must not exceed 75×55×35 centimeters and weigh more than 32 kg. You can check in for the desired flight up to three pieces of baggage in the norms of the paid weight.

AirBerlin

AirBerlin is not a pure low-cost airline: they have the opportunity to pay for baggage in advance, as well as already at the airport (JustFly). There is also a free baggage allowance option - one piece up to 23 kilograms in economy class (FlyClassic and FlyDeal) and 32 kilograms in business class. FlyFlex+ entitles passengers to free transportation of two pieces of baggage. Overweight fee from 23 to 32 kilograms: 50 euros one way (FlyDeal, FlyClassic and FlyFlex +) or from 65 euros (JustFly).

EasyJet

EasyJet has the following baggage rules: you can only take 1 piece of hand luggage in the cabin with a size of 56x45x25 centimeters. Additionally, you can take a bag with a laptop or a handbag, free of charge. Members of affiliate programs can use this service. The passenger pays for ordinary baggage when buying his ticket, while the weight of the baggage should not exceed 20 kilograms and the sum of all three dimensions - up to 275 centimeters. It is possible to pay for additional kilograms of transportation, the maximum weight of luggage then should be 32 kilograms. When paying online, a small amount per kilogram is paid for overweight (on the website, the weight is in increments of up to 3 kilograms), it will be more at the airport. When traveling together, for example, a total weight of up to 40 kg can be divided into 18 and 22 kilograms.

Loss of luggage

Sometimes there is an extremely unpleasant situation associated with the loss of things. If your suitcase is lost at the airport, you should notify the representatives of the baggage tracing service without leaving the arrivals area. Often a written request is made to search for luggage, for this you need to have a baggage ticket and a flight ticket, as well as an identity card. After that, the passenger is issued a special act, which indicates the case number, for which you can track the progress of the search for things on the websites of airlines.

Baggage search, according to the legislation of the Russian Federation, is carried out within 21 days, after which the airline's client may demand compensation for the loss of luggage. Compensation, according to international treaties, is about 20 dollars, while the calculation is for 1 kilogram of luggage. But it is better to check the amount and conditions directly with airline employees. When contacting air carriers directly, you can count on payments of about 600 rubles per kilogram of baggage, according to the rules of some international airlines, the amount of compensation increases.

In case of damage to luggage or loss of individual items, you must immediately contact the airline staff, having a ticket with a baggage coupon. It should be noted that the deadline for filing an application for theft or damage to things is 7 days. Passengers are required to give an exact description of the things they have found, and compensation, as before, is the mentioned amount of $20 per kilogram. In the case when all checks for lost items have been preserved, then it is quite possible to count on a full or partial refund of their value.
