Hotels, pensions and beaches in Fethiye

Fethiye belongs to the resort towns. But it is not so. When it comes to holidays in Fethiye, most often they mean hotels and guesthouses in the area of Calysh beach (Çalış) or in Oludeniz (Ölüdeniz). There is no beach in Fethiye itself. There is a concrete embankment along the shore, and the Chalysh beach begins quite far from the center.

Getting to the beaches of Calis and Oludeniz from the center of Fethiye is not difficult. Calis Beach (15 minutes) and Oludeniz Beach (30 minutes) can be reached by dolmush. Their main parking lot is at the local dolmush bus station.

Calis Beach (Çalış) stretches for several kilometers. The beach of Calis is public, although there are places related to the territory of hotels. The beach itself is mostly pebbly. But in some places they pour sand.

As for entertainment, discos, there are several in Fethiye itself. Calis is quite calm, there are bars and restaurants. The main party takes place in the suburbs of Fethiye - Hisarönü.

Thus, upon arriving in Fethiye, you can choose from several housing options:

1. Settle in the city of Fethiye. In the city center there are small hotels and inexpensive pensions. This option is convenient if your main goal is to see the surrounding sights (Pinara, Tlos, Saklikent, Kayakoy, Patara, Letoon, etc.), and the beach is not the main thing for you.

2. Settle in the vicinity of Fethiye in the Calis region. Living here will cost more than in Fethiye. There are also expensive hotels here. But you can find more or less budget accommodation. It will not be difficult to survey the surrounding sights, because. It's only about 15 minutes drive to the otogar.

3. You can settle in Hisarenu or Oludeniz. But this option is more convenient if your priority is the sea and the beach. Oludeniz is not a cheap place to live. You can live inexpensively in neighboring Hisaren. But this is not on the seashore itself, but on a mountain, a 5-minute drive from Oludeniz. More details about Hisarenu and Oludeniz will be discussed separately.

Hotels in Fethiye and its suburbs can be viewed and booked through the hotel search form located above the article. Don't forget to sort by price to see the best prices.

For the sights of the city of Fethiye, see the article.

The Fethiye resort is located in the west of Turkey, where there is an invisible border between two seas - the Aegean and the Mediterranean. The resort town is hidden in the depths of a picturesque bay, surrounded by the highest mountains, creating a special aura and protection from the winds from Africa. The entire coast is adorned with small islands, whose snow-white beaches attract the attention of tourists. Fethiye is also known for its large port for hundreds of yachts of various sizes. The population of this city does not exceed 100,000 people.

However, in any one of the summer months, Fethiye in Turkey triples its population, mainly due to tourists from England. Some of them choose a noisy vacation in the surrounding villages and even such extreme pastimes as paragliding. The other part prefers a more relaxing holiday in secluded five-star hotels. Finally, we can't help but think of small colonies of hippies and LGBT people who prefer to spend the summer in a tent or bungalow in small but charming bays along the coast of Fethiye.

Russian or Ukrainian dialect is not often found here, however, from year to year there is a noticeable trend towards a significant increase in the number of tourists from Moscow or Kyiv. Many of them travel to these parts on their own, without travel agencies. By the way, an incredible surge of compatriots' interest in resting in the "other Turkey" has been observed precisely in the last four years.

Without tiring the reader with too detailed historical information, we still note that Fethiye has a long history that dates back to the 4th century AD, when immigrants from Greece settled on the coast. Telmessos (the first name of the city) at that time was part of the powerful Lycian state. The majestic tombs of that time are carved on the rocks, and you can admire their architecture on your own. The grave of the founder of the city or the tomb of Amyntas stands out especially in size. Later, Telmessos was an insignificant settlement under the rule of Rome. As part of the Ottoman Empire, the city called Makri was known for its small port, and its inhabitants hunted by fishing and collecting the famous share honey in pine forests. The city received its modern name in honor of its resident, the famous Turkish pilot Shahid Fethi Bey. By the way, do not forget to visit the amusement park of the same name!

Today Fethiye is a small Turkish resort, but it has all the necessary elements of a tourist infrastructure: dozens of hotels and restaurants, beautiful beaches, as well as many nature reserves and preserved artifacts from the Lycian state and the Roman Empire. Near Fethiye is located Oludeniz - a tourist village, the fame and popularity of which gradually overshadowed the city named after Fathi Bey.

Weather and climate

Like many resorts on the Turkish Riviera, Fethiye in Turkey has a Mediterranean climate. Warm weather is firmly established at the end of April and will last until November. The beach and swimming seasons last almost half a year. Due to good protection from the winds, in the bay of the resort during the high season, the air temperature rises up to +40C. Even in October you can sunbathe at a temperature of +20C. The sea warms up in summer to + 27-30C and swimming in numerous bays and beaches is as pleasant as in Alanya.

Autumn is warm and long. The swimming season closes in mid-November at a sea temperature of +23C. Many experienced travelers choose this time of year because of the significant drop in hotel prices and the favorable climate for self-guided exploration of many attractions. The first prolonged rains are possible only in the third decade of November. Most hotels are closed in late autumn, with the exception of boutique hotels, which are briefly populated by tourists wandering through the historical monuments of the former Lycian state.

In winter, the water area of the city is often subject to severe storms. In January, hurricanes can be seen quite often in the territory of the Fethiye resort in Turkey, short-term snow hail often falls, and heavy rains fall for several days. But most often it is sunny cool weather with a temperature of about +10C and blooming gardens! Of course, winter time is far from the best time to travel to this region of the country, however, a significant improvement in the weather will be noticeable already at the end of February. The revival of the season in spring comes in Fethiye in mid-May, when the sun, which is gaining strength, warms the air up to + 25C.

Due to the peculiarities of the geographical location, in general, the weather conditions in Fethiye are significantly warmer than in Marmaris and Icmeler.

How to get there?

Many tour operators sell package tours to Fethiye hotels. And independent travelers can buy seats on Russian charters. The landing airport is located in the city of Dalaman. The airport is being actively rebuilt. In recent years, a new spacious international terminal has been built, which is not inferior in size to the terminals in Antalya. However, the completion of construction is scheduled only for the next 2-3 years. Flight time from Moscow to Dalaman is about 3.5 hours. The cost of tickets from Moscow to Dalaman in 2019 is from 15 to 20 thousand rubles per person (conditions: the cheapest Russian charter, self-booking). You can buy cheaper tickets with transfers and waiting at Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul. True, travel time can take from 5 to 10 hours!

If you are flying to the Fethiye resort in Turkey as part of a package tour, the bus transfer to the hotel will take between 40-60 minutes. Independent travelers can get to the hotel by taxi for 2.800 - 3.600 rubles. Travel time by car is 25-30 minutes. Experienced tourists use the Muttaş 17.50TL or Havaş 10TL buses (prices 2019). True, Muttaş and Havaş airports depart only upon arrival of local flights, and from Fethiye otogar - according to a fixed schedule. Full information about this type of transfer is available at this link. Shabashniks and illegal bombers are no longer allowed to transport passengers without a license. In 2019, a special law came into force in Turkey.

Hotel selection

Few people know that Fethiye can hardly be called a resort in the usual sense of the word. This is an ordinary Turkish city, where there is simply no place for large hotels. In addition, there is no beach in the central part of the city - a large yacht port has been equipped in its place. For this reason, the hotel infrastructure has been created on its outskirts.

And yet, there are rare tourists who, for a number of reasons, want to live in the center of Fethiye, near the marina. Usually they choose small apartments or boutique hotels, however, there are few offers. In the center of Fethiye in Turkey, you can find either ultra-cheap or very modern and expensive boutique hotels. But finding the golden mean is quite difficult! For this reason, package tours to the center of Fethiye are almost impossible to buy. Remember, a large selection of ready-made Fethiye tours should be sought under living conditions in the suburbs, such as Oludeniz or Calis.

For those who certainly want to book a hotel in historical Fethiye on their own, close to the port, promenade, dozens of restaurants, whole neighborhoods with shops and, of course, attractions, we recommend reading the article about the best hotels in Fethiye. Perhaps she will push you to a worthy option! Do not forget to use convenient and reliable online booking systems to search and book hotels in the resort of Fethiye in Turkey, for example, or.

Transport in Fethiye

The main means of transportation in the city is dolmush (route taxi). This is a small white minibus, on the windshield of which there are two signs with the points of the beginning and end of the movement. Dolmush walk along the route with an interval of 5 minutes (to Oludeniz) and up to one hour (to Kabak). Fare varies depending on the route. You need to pay when landing to the driver, who prefers cash Turkish money. Dolmus in Fethiye in Turkey does not stop anywhere, but only at signs with a white letter "D" on a blue background. Small savings will occur when you pay for the fare with a Kentkart card. In dolmush, it is better not to sit next to a Turkish woman. All dolmush are air-conditioned with thermal glasses. Carefully read the rubricator of articles about popular dolmush routes in Fethiye.

It is very convenient to rent a scooter on an electric ship. Simple operation, recharging at night (requires an agreement with the owner of the hotel). You can rent a scooter (35-50TL) and a car (100-400TL). Most hotels have free parking for guests. Traffic in the city is calm except for two main streets. Police on the roads are extremely rare. Places for installation of security cameras are marked with special signs. There are quite a few gas stations. We recommend reading author's articles about Turkey: gasoline prices, "how to refuel at gas stations", what brands of gasoline ".

If funds allow, you can travel by taxi. These are yellow checkered cars. As a rule, passengers will not be able to reduce the amount of travel on a typical route for you. The usual fare is 1 euro / 1 km (80 rubles).

Food in Fethiye: restaurants, shops and markets

Solo travelers will not go hungry in Fethiye in Turkey. Nevertheless, it is worth considering - in mini markets you can only buy chips and sparkling water. And food will have to be purchased in a store of one of the retail chains. True, they are located within walking distance from any city hotel. Remember the names of the networks - BIM and A-101 (discounters, trading from pallets). Migros and KIPPA (full-length, wide range). The largest selection of meat (lamb, beef and chicken) at the fish market. It is also worth buying fresh fish there (the price is two times less than in Russian stores). Read more about the fish market. Bread, sweets and fruits are sold in small shops in the neighborhoods.

On Tuesdays, a large pazar (bazaar) is open in old Fethiye in Turkey. Here, locals buy fruits and vegetables of organic origin. You can also buy nuts, sweets and cheeses. Finally, the manufactured goods sector is also popular - shoes, T-shirts, jeans, belts and bags, authentic home clothes and much more. On Friday, only the grocery sector works on the same market. Vegetables and fruits can be bought every day at the fish market (but there are outbids).

The most popular fish restaurants in Fethiye in Turkey are centered on the Fethiye Fish Market. Here they will prepare fresh seafood that you buy in stalls. The pleasure is not cheap, given the cost of a bottle of wine from 100TL. If you are a lamb food lover, then the best place to cook delicious kebabs, lula or barbecue is Pasa Kebab next to the amphitheater. Dinner for two will cost $20. We recommend eating juicy meat steaks at the Barbella Restarurant on the waterfront, north of the harbor. For lovers of Ottoman cuisine, we recommend the Mozaik Bahce restaurant, minced meat kebab or lamb kebab costs only 30 TL. On the other hand, all restaurants are located along the marina and offer the same assortment. The average cost of a meat dish starts from 20 TL. And fish dishes cost twice as much. Tip 10% is not included in the check. Try the kebab, lentil soup and kunefe dessert. This will give some general idea of the local cuisine.

beach holiday

Tourists are often interested in questions: "What is the sea and beaches in Fethiye in Turkey"? The city is located on the border of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas. There are no equipped beaches in the city center. However, there are quite a few beaches north and south of the city. Let's look at them briefly.

One of the northern regions of the Fethiye resort in Turkey is Calis. The water area of the sea forms a two-kilometer sandy beach of the same name here. Admission is free, stay is free, but renting two sunbeds with an umbrella costs 35TL per day (2018). There are few vacationers, a very comfortable slow entry into the sea is ideal for children. The water is clean and transparent. A constant afternoon strong breeze creates the illusion of muddy water 2-3 meters from the shore. Near the beach there are toilets, changing rooms and dozens of restaurants. Useful links: how to get to the beach from Fethiye and what is the village of Calis.

South of Fethiye Bay, on the Oyuktepe peninsula, there are many small cozy beaches Aksazlar, Kuleli, Büyük Boncuklu, Küçük Samanlık and Büyük Samanlık. Each beach has recreation areas, changing rooms, toilets, bars and water activities. Each beach is located in a small bay surrounded by pine trees. You can get to the beaches by dolmush from the Passepartout area, and some even by a free shuttle yacht. Küçük Boncuklu (Help Beach) stands out for its evening parties - modern music and the opportunity to dance until 3 am attracts young people. A shuttle yacht will take you back to Fethiye.

Some tourists prefer to visit the beaches of the neighboring suburb of Oludeniz. To do this, you need to use the dolmus on the route Fethiye - Oludeniz. The Blue Lagoon and Belcekiz beaches are equally loved by tourists because of the stunning natural environment and the extraordinary color of the sea. However, they are incredibly crowded during the high season, and visiting them requires a lot of money. For example, renting two sunbeds and an umbrella will cost 45TL per day. Also popular to a certain extent is Kidrak Beach (repelled by frequent cold undercurrents, entrance 6TL) and Kabak (beach where many hippies and LGBT people hang out). It is impossible not to mention the most interesting beaches in the neighborhood of Fethiye - these are Kaputas (phenomenal purple sea color and golden sand) and Patara (white sand, 20 km, strong surf). In conclusion, we can state that Fethiye in Turkey is surrounded by the most beautiful beaches in all of Turkey, but visiting remote beaches will take time and money, both for long-distance transfers and sunbed rental (from 20 to 50TL for two).

shopping

Shopping and resort Fethiye in Turkey. Perhaps it is fair to say that these concepts are incompatible. At least from the point of view that the only large shopping center was opened in the city not so long ago. Therefore, if you are looking for products of international brands, then you will not get lost much. So, pay your attention to "Erasta", however, to bypass the two floors of the shopping center, you will need no more than 2-3 hours in the evening.

The next concentration of branded boutiques is the so-called "umbrella street" or 95th lane. It is located near the marina and is mostly covered with umbrellas that save space from the sun. In the lane you can find a number of noteworthy shops. First of all, the three-story LC Waikiki, where you can buy inexpensive quality clothes for adults and children. We also note the presence of boutiques of the most popular Turkish brands Koton and Mavi. Great selection of home furnishings at Senin Home, as well as Tac Bed Linen Store. Closer to the marina, you can find real branded goods in Lacoste and US Polo, Tommy-Hilfiger‎ branded stores. Unfortunately, another Turkish brand De Facto hid at the northern entrance to the fish market.

Closer to the amphitheater (i.e. to the beginning of the marina) there are many small shops selling jewelry made of gold and silver. And, of course, a couple of shops selling fur and leather products. Going deeper into the bowels of Paspatur (the old shopping area) you will find two shops of dealers of the "Chevret Shekerleme" factory. It is here that you should make "sweet shopping" in Fethiye and buy the only factory-made Turkish sweets by weight in the city, as well as spices.

Partially, shopping in Fethiye can be attributed to a walk through the market on Tuesdays, where you can buy cheap manufactured goods under world brands on the territory of the bazaar. Here is the best place to buy oriental goods - Turkish bloomers or "Ottoman" pillow covers. Finally, you will see hundreds of brands of jeans, belts and textiles - good quality polos, sweatshirts and other semi-manufactured goods of excellent quality.

Despite some scarcity of assortment, shopping in Fethiye will allow you to buy souvenirs and a large number of cheap factory clothes. And in the conditions of the crisis in Russia, Tretsky jeans for 500 rubles from excellent cotton from Waikiki will never be superfluous. By the way, a detailed guide to shopping in Fethiye is available here.

Attractions Fethiye

To the question: "What to see in Fethiye"? you can recommend sightseeing. They really impress the imagination. To get started, go to the foot of the mountain that surrounds the city from the south. Here, Lycian tombs are carved on a high sheer cliff. Some of them are more like the front sides of Greek temples and are perfectly preserved, despite their advanced age of several thousand years. For 6 TL you will have the opportunity to climb almost 200 steps to the monumental tomb of the founder Telmessos. This tomb impresses with its size and refinement of workmanship. You can +look inside the crypt, unfortunately, its walls are painted by local vandals. Turning towards the marina, you will take amazing selfies with a panorama of the whole of Fethiye.

The ancient fortress is nearby. Founded by the inhabitants of Rhodes, who at one time ruled the city, it underwent a major redistribution by the Ottoman conquerors. From here you can also clearly see the port and the entrance to the bay. Unfortunately, the fortress in our time lies in ruins. Not far from the fish market, in the middle of the streets you can find ugly squat round structures. These are Ottoman cisterns for collecting water. Visit the very beginning of the marina. Only from behind the bars you can look at the reconstructed ancient amphitheater. Work has been suspended for many years due to the need for resettlement and the demolition of nearby houses.

True admirers of the sights of the resort of Fethiye in Turkey should go to the archaeological museum (daily, every Monday, 8.30-17.30, 6TL). The most interesting part of the museum is devoted to the period of Lycia and the Roman Empire. Particular attention should be paid to the Lycian stele (385 BC), found in the excavations of the temple of Apollo in Xanthos. Thanks to the same inscriptions made in three languages, scientists were able to decipher the Lycian language. Also curious are the marble sculptures found on the ruins of the cities of Kaunas (Dalyan) and Tlos, as well as those discovered during the excavations of Letunia and the amphitheater in Fethiye. Impressive ancient sarcophagi, a lot of products for the life of ancient people. Be sure to read the article in Turkey with a more complete description of interesting places.

Best excursions from Fethiye

The excursion program in Fethiye is incredibly extensive. Of course, if you buy a ready-made tour, you can count on full localization - including a Russian-speaking guide. Until recently, most of the package tourists bought tours from hotel guides. There is a very simple explanation for this. Despite the presence of street travel agencies, they provide 99% of tours in English only. Therefore, it was possible to buy a tour with a Russian-speaking guide only in Dalyan to Iztuzu beach or in Pamukkale. True, in 2017-2018 there were interesting offers of tours with a Russian-speaking guide from completely new players in this market. Finally, one cannot but recall the Russian "self-tourists". Year by year there are more and more of them in Fethiye. These people actively travel all over the coast, collecting life cards, reading reviews and exploring the sights in articles on the Internet.

Speaking of sightseeing tours, you should not even think about quad biking trips, rafting or diving that have set your teeth on edge. People come to the resort of Fethiye in Turkey not for this at all. The highlight of the program is tandem paragliding or a forty-minute flight from the top of the two-kilometer Mount Babadag. Note - this is the second most important training base for paragliders in Europe. Any tourist, even a preschooler, can make an amazing emotional descent in tandem with a professional pilot. While the tour is admiring the picturesque views of Oludeniz, the pilot not only controls the paraglider, but also shoots a video on a GoPro camera.

The second most important sightseeing tour is a day trip along six beautiful islands and swimming in small bays, the bottom of which is covered with snow-white sand. As part of this tour, a stop for one hour in the Valley of the Butterflies is a must. It is worth noting - on this beach you will notice the incredible calmness of the sea, its deep purple color and overhanging three-hundred-meter cliffs above the narrow edge of the beach. Of course, tourists do not remain hungry - in the middle of the day, on one of the beaches, a picnic is made.

The third popular one-day route is laid in the city of Dalyan. Its highlight is the rest on a five-kilometer with a stunning unrelenting surf. There is also organized fishing for huge blue crabs. In Dalyan, you will admire the views of the huge Lycian tombs, swim in the huge fresh lake, and visit the mud bath. For lunch, as usual, try the local grilled trout.

Carefully study the article - rubricator about all tours from Fethiye. Follow the links below to learn in detail the main sightseeing tours, their cost and procedure. It would be unfair, if not blasphemous, to come to Fethiye and spend all your vacation days on the beach!

Resting with children

If you have carefully read the article as a whole, then you will agree that holidays in the city of Fethiye can only be qualified as "suitable for children" with a big stretch. Its central part is not suitable for recreation at all, having no beach and full-scale hotels with children's clubs or playgrounds. If for some reason living in the Oludeniz village (where there are full-fledged hotels for children) is impossible for you, then pay attention to two points.

Look towards the Letunia 5* hotel. This is a great hotel where you can really relax with your child, located 2-3 kilometers from the center of Fethiye. Here you can find a children's sandy beach, a children's menu in the restaurant and a functioning kids club. This is one of the top "children's" hotels on the Aegean coast. A beautiful picture of the upcoming vacation is overshadowed only by the price, which goes for 200 thousand rubles for 10-12 days.

The Turkish city is a traveller's dream. A visit to the world-famous Blue Mosque is a must, along with Topkapi Palace and church-turned-mosque-turned-museum Hagia Sophia. Transport yourself to ancient times in the Grand Bazaar, walk through the fascinating Basilica Cistern, wander down Istiklal Avenue in the heart of the city, and take a river cruise down the Bosphorus. Rejuvenate your body at a local hammam or Turkish bath, sip on some divine Turkish coffee and feast on delicious food and baklava, before checking out the city’s thriving nightlife scene.

Myself Fethiye is a typical quiet resort village on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The local population is heavily diluted with the British, Danes and other Europeans who live here permanently.

Despite the apparent calmness, Fethiye has long been in the 21st century. In the most seedy bar you can find Wi-Fi and satellite TV, and on the beach Oludeniz ATMs are at the service of tourists. Here you can find everything from car and yacht rentals to electronics repair.

French and English supermarkets can be found in Fethiye itself and in the surrounding villages. And whoever wants vegetables or fruits from the garden can walk through the numerous local markets. There is no need to worry about health either, in addition to a modern state hospital, there are also 2 private clinics in Fethiye.

All kinds of restaurants, cafes, discos and clubs are concentrated in the village of Fethiye, in particular, in the Jalis quarter there is a very good disco " Lykia Disco ».

Fethiye beaches.

There are no beaches right in the city, and they usually go to the beach either in bay of fethiye , or on countless islands. At the end of the row of hotels begins a large sandy spit called Cleopatra beach . Near the town of Oludeniz, 16 km from Fethiye is located " Blue Lagoon ", a unique natural park, with the most beautiful beach in Turkey.

It was chosen by lovers of kiting and parasailing.

5 kilometers to the north is a two-kilometer pebble Calis beach, and to the west are several pretty island beaches.

A little history.

The history of the city dates back to the fifth century BC. e. At that time there was an ancient port here. Telmes. Once upon a time, both Alexander the Great and his friend Nearchus visited here.

In 1857, the city was destroyed by a terrible earthquake, and acquired its current name in 1934 by the name of the pilot Fethi Bey.

Average monthly temperature in Fethiye, °C

Friends, hello everyone!

While the tendencies among the masses aimed at acquiring the next conditional "beads" are promoted with merciless frenzy, we continue to spin around the globe in search of comfortable and worthy places to stay.

This section and a fragment of my personal life are devoted to Turkey, so we will continue our conversation about its cities and resorts.

You can restore the passed material according to archival records. Well, we, having already lit up in, and Marmaris, we will take apart another stunning Mediterranean resort, Fethiye, piece by piece.

As always, a lot of useful information: hotels, cafes, prices, beaches, attractions. Of course, there will be tips that save you a lot of time, nerve and wasted money.

In general, do not poke your head into the water without knowing the ford, or at least the content of the article. Let's find Fethiye together on the map of Turkey and create a plan for our holiday.

Fethiye is the first large resort on the Mediterranean Sea, which takes over from its counterparts from the Aegean region. The conditional border of the two seas can be called a semicircle that passes through the islands of Crete and Rhodes and rests on the territory of Turkey in Dalaman airport .

This airport, approximately equidistant from Marmaris and Fethiye, works on 2 fronts at once, providing a stable flow of tourists on charter flights "both yours and ours."

We looked at Marmaris and here is Fethiye, which is 130 km from Marmaris - this is a completely different story.

The distance to the nearest resorts is as follows:

  • Bodrum – 230 km
  • Marmaris – 130 km
  • Pamukkale – 200 km
  • Antalya – 200 km
  • Kas – 100 km

Dalaman Airport is only 40 km away.

Leaving Marmaris in the morning, after an hour and a half we ended up in a completely different Turkey. The thermometer helpfully rose up, the roofs of the houses were decorated with red tiles, and the sea itself, as if on cue, quickly acquired a heavenly hue.

This landscape is unlikely to ever leave the halls of your mind.

Conventionally, Fethiye with a population of 65,000 people can be divided into 3 zones:

  1. Chalysh- where the city beach is located, apartments for rent, houses of wealthy Turks and British. Quiet and peaceful (5 km north of the center of Fethiye).
  2. Fethiye itself– embankment, yacht marina, market, bus station and the pulse of the city
  3. Oludeniz- a neighboring resort with gorgeous beaches and more expensive hotels and restaurants. Noisy and youthful (13 km south of Fethiye).

Consider all this when choosing a parking lot on the Turkish coast.

The former name of the city of Makri was changed to Fethiye in 1934 in honor of one of the first Turkish military pilots, Fethiye Bey, one of Ataturk's 8 adopted children. He tragically died in 1914 during the flight Istanbul - Cairo.

Here, fly a little over Fethiye itself so that the picture is in front of your eyes as we move deeper into the topic:

General information about the resort

The former capital of the Lycian kingdom, on which the sandals of Alexander the Great, Mark Antony and Cleopatra trampled. The militant knights of the Order of the Hospitallers nested here and the important ancient port of Telmes functioned.

In fact, this resort is not very popular in the expanses of the post-Soviet space.

Few of our people go here AWOL, avoiding the offers of annoying agencies about the velvet sands of Antalya and megalithic entertainment in Belbek hotels. Most of those who notice a line about this resort in the guidebook will very often make a choice in favor of more promoted neighbors. Bodrum And Marmaris .

What do agents usually tell tourists?

  • It is very hot in here
  • No public beach
  • Full of English and pensioners
  • There is not a large selection of all-inclusive hotels and they are located outside the city gates.

But what they forget to tell them about is that it is a chic environmentally friendly resort, after a vacation in which you will completely change not only your idea of Turkey as a whole, but, perhaps, your worldview and your concept of relaxation in general.

Are you ready for this? If yes, then let's be with you and answer all the above questions about the beaches, hotels and entertainment in Fethiye.

First, let's look at Fethiye from above, and then delve into the details.

The climate in the resort

It should be borne in mind that in Fethiye the climate is already purely Mediterranean: hot summers and warm, but sometimes rainy winters. Although the precipitation here is still less than on the Aegean coast.

Despite the fact that Fethiye itself is located in the bay, protected from the winds and a sharp change in climate and surrounded by cedar and pine forests and mountains, softening the temperature and heat, it is quite hot here at the height of the season.

I would not recommend traveling here with children in July or August, but at any other time of the year it is gorgeous here.

Many foreigners come here for the winter and travel around the region to their heart's content. I would do the same, given the beautiful deserted beaches, evergreen islands, blue lagoons and an average winter temperature of +10.

You can start swimming here already on the May holidays and not climb ashore until the beginning of November. And, if you work on yourself and your goals, then capture April and November.

We were swimming on Oludeniz beach at the very end of March and the water temperature was about 17-18 degrees. You won’t hide in the water for a long time, but it removes the age-old dust and winter slumber as if by hand.

Tours in Fethiye

So what do we have at the start. Fethiye is suitable for those who love a respectable vacation away from the bustle of the city and traditional bazaars in Turkey, night discos and barkers in the spirit of "Brother, it's very cheap, let's try it!".

Families come here, elderly and wealthy Europeans come here, adventure lovers rest here, using Fethiye as a well-located transshipment base.

Why do I bring up the topic of tours among fans of independent travel? Because it’s not a fact that it will always be cheaper to go on your own.

BUT! I would by no means book all inclusive and excursions from hotels. And you won’t see Turkey and you won’t try normal food. Well, those who pay $ 2,000 for a tour and eat delicacies do not read my blog.

Based on this, we have 2 types of tours:

  • trips to luxury hotels on an all-inclusive basis with its own beaches, club areas and taxi boats to different parts of the region
  • trips to simple hotels 3-4 stars urban type with pools but no beaches.

Tours of the 1st order will cost more than a similar holiday in the Antalya region. But, if you look at the photos of the territories and landscapes of such five-star hotels as Lykia World Oludeniz, Sentido Likya Resort or hillside beach then you will understand why.

Here you can really relax like in a fairy tale without having to fly to some tropical island. In addition, civilization and the city itself will not be so far from your dining room. Well, additional opportunities to do yachting or paragliding will definitely turn your head.

To save money, you can take a ticket to an inexpensive hotel in the city and ride on the hotel shuttle or on your own along the beaches and attractions located around you.

The only negative is that most hotels are not yet ready to work with the Russian-speaking population, so basic knowledge of English is necessary.

How to get to Fethiye - airports and transfers

If no one presented the transfer service to you, then you can get from Dalaman Airport either by the company's regular bus Havatas(17.5 lira and 1 hour journey) or book a car in advance through the company Kiwi-Taxi.

Given the distance of 40 km and the presence in your team of more people than the hands of the average resident of the European part of Russia, ordering a taxi via the Internet will seem like a reasonable solution.

Firstly, it will not be more expensive than a local taxi, and secondly, you know in advance the cost of the trip for your calculations and what you will be met in a foreign country. Thirdly, do not poke the taxi driver at the map on the phone, reinforcing the misunderstanding with a vinaigrette from the phrases: “Bak! Bak!”, understand and “I will explain to you for the third time”.

In addition, you can generally make a knight's move and immediately at the airport rent a car for the whole vacation. If you are afraid of getting bored or being left without a vehicle in such a unique and interesting region, then rental offices are your way out.

Official website of Dalaman Airport - dalaman.dhmi.gov.tr.Official website of the transport company Havashavas.net. And how to get to Dalaman airport from Russia or Ukraine, I wrote in an article about Marmaris.

Also in Turkey, bus service is superbly developed, so feel free to consider this option as an alternative to local flights. For example, a bus from Antalya to Fethiye takes 3.5 hours.

How to move around the city

The task of navigating this small-looking town will be in front of you in full growth, as soon as you take up the study of the state of affairs with the beaches.

In the very center of the city there is everything you need, except for the beach itself. The nearest beach from Fethiye to the north is Calis (5 km from the center) and to the north Oludeniz (13 km). And how many of them are still in the district - you can only write it down in a notebook, and not hope for memory.

It is precisely for the sake of communication between the remarkable center and the beach periphery that you will need minibuses.

Dolmushi in Fethiye

There are 2 minibuses running around the city of Fethiye from the center to Calis beach:

  1. The first along the embankment with a sign SahIlInden and is used as the shortest transfer to the beach area. Goes to the beach from the center 25 minutes.
  2. The second calls at the bus station and slightly circles around the city. She has a home port on the windshield Gunlukbasi. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the beach.

Both dolmush start at about 06.45 and, with an interval of 10-15 minutes, complete the trip schedule until midnight. Fethiye public transport fare is 2.25 lira.

In addition to them, other shuttle buses run from the dolmush bus station to neighboring towns and villages.

Bus stations in Fethiye

There are 2 bus stations in the city: one for intercity buses to Marmaris, Antalya and Pammukale at the exit from the city and the second for local dolmus, which go to Oludeniz, Hisarnu, Kayakoy and Fralua (next to the Butterfly Valley).

The second bus station is located in the city center, next to the White Mosque. The fare in them varies from 3 to 5 lira.

water taxi

Imagine, in order to get from the yacht marina of Fethiye to Calis Beach, you can jump not into a minibus, but into a water taxi, which in less than half an hour will easily take you to the parking lot in the water channel, next to the beach.

The water taxi starts its movement quite late: at 09:30 there is the first taxi from the center and at 9.00 from Calis. They run along the route until midnight and the fare is 7.5 lira.

Boat stop in the center next to the park and parking of pleasure boats, and from the side of the Calis beach in the canal next to the hotel Kerim Hotel.

In addition to your walking abilities and taxis in Fethiye, you can still rely on bicycles (rental about 30 lira per day).

5 star hotels, apartments and simple hotels

Everyone chooses their level of rest according to their means and thoughts. Turkey is unique in that there is no layer cake, as, for example, in Cancun, Mexico or the Dominican Republic, where the locals and their shacks are beyond the perimeter of luxury and wealth.

In Turkey, the union of luxury and poverty is quite possible - you can swim together on the same beach. Well, won't they give you a sunbed and a towel with the hotel logo on it.

luxury hotels

For those who want to relax on a grand scale, Fethiye has something to offer. Top 5 hotels where you will be made to love Turkey))

It is worth knowing that most of the luxury hotels are located outside the city. Since the Russian client is new to them, you will not find Russian-speaking staff and the usual “ultra all-inclusive” system for the Antalya region everywhere.

Although, for children, I see only advantages if they start communicating with foreigners at such a young age.

  1. Sentido Lykia Resort & SPA 5*- a huge hotel complex with a green area. It is worth knowing that the focus of the hotel is for families without children.
  2. Liberty Hotels Lykia 5*- Great hotel for families. Located next to the previous hotel and there is the possibility of free movement between them
  3. Jiva Beach Resort 5* is a fresh and modern hotel near Calis beach in Fethiye with European comfort.
  4. Barut Fethiye Sensatori 5*- a comfortable hotel for families and relatively inexpensive.
  5. Hillside Beach 5*- one of the best hotels in Fethiye for families with children. Accommodation in separate cottages.

Confident middle peasants

If your task is to relax in a hotel with children, but without debts and loans, then pay attention to these options:

  1. Akdeniz Beach Hotel 3*– located in a cozy area in Oludeniz, on the 2nd line from the sea. 3 meals a day, but without animation, as in 5.
  2. Alesta Yacht Hotel 4*- a 5-minute walk from the center of Fethiye, but you have a buffet and all sorts of spas.

Apartments in Fethiye

In principle, nothing better than apartments has yet been invented for a comfortable and inexpensive vacation. I have my own kitchen at hand, you can always please yourself with inexpensive culinary delights, and with the placement of 1 or even 2 children there will be no problems, surcharges and proceedings with the hotel administration regarding the age of the child and cots.

If you do not take tiny studios of 15 squares, then there will be enough space in the resort apartment for everyone.

Booking of such options is best done through Booking or Airbnb. WITH Airbnb I did not work out and I was expelled from it 2 times. The first time with a comb with all the Crimeans, and the second, when they saw the word in my international rights Sevastopol .

Basically, it's not a problem. You can also create an account for your spouse. But, to be honest, I'm still satisfied in all respects Booking. Firstly, almost all the same apartments are available on it, and secondly, more transparent terms of payment and cancellation of reservations and without additional interest for the service, for cleaning, for an additional “passenger”, etc.

Where did we live

We stayed this time Kordon Appartment. The half-Turkish, half-Italian owner Fernando was at his best, and his apartments are masterpieces of design art. The view from the panoramic windows was on the yacht marina. And for everything about everything 27 euros per day!

If suddenly there are no apartments for your dates, then here are a couple more worthy options for you to consider:

  1. Dove Apart Hotel great villa with pool close to Calis beach
  2. Milkyway Apart&Hotels- a chic and not expensive hotel with a pool, but, of course, not right by the sea.

Meals: cafes and restaurants

Fethiye compares favorably with Marmaris in that there are no special restaurant streets where you are attacked as a victim. Walking through such lively areas, I develop an inferiority complex. As if I have to eat and eat tirelessly, as long as the owners are satisfied.

When you modestly order fish and shrimp with salad for two from them, they look at you as if you were a girl, and they certainly intend to feed you almost with your own hands according to your mother’s “first-second-compote” scheme.

Since we lived in the area of the yacht club, we managed to examine this area in detail.

During lunch hours, a very popular fast food cafe is Lemon H20. It was recommended to us by Fernando as a quick fix for a daily problem. And it's a lively place. At lunchtime, all the tables in the summer garden were occupied and we managed to replace a Turkish family that had just risen from the table.

The prices are average, the dishes are tasty and beautiful. This is not the height of dreams, but good value for money. The cafe is located next to the Migras supermarket near the yacht club.

The three of us dined for 60 lira. They took pizza, kebab, soup, salad, beans and bread with drinks.

Along the marinas themselves, there is a scattering of creative restaurants overlooking the yachts. I won’t tell you which one to choose, since I haven’t tasted it myself.

The second center of attraction for the members of the knife and fork club is located along the waterfront. Here you will find tea shops, inexpensive buffets, and fish restaurants. I think you will make a choice at a distance of about 3 km. Tea or coffee, balyk ekmek (fish in bread) and a gorgeous view from a chair right at the water's edge - what could be better?

By the way, for the sake of the British, the Turks made a deal with their conscience and now they offer English breakfast everywhere, or “death to the stomach,” as I call them. After such a hellish mixture of everything and everyone, you won’t want to move at all. The price is about 15-20 lire.

Shops and markets

Markets in Fethiye, where you can buy everything from food to clothes in the old fashioned way, as well as throughout Turkey, work strictly on schedule. The market in Fethiye itself is open on Tuesday and Friday mornings, in the Calis region on Sundays.

If you are not fed to slaughter in hotels where "everything is possible", then remember this schedule.

On the market you can buy cheap delicious vegetables, fruits, olives and cheeses. The rest of the ingredients for a tasty and nutritious life can be bought in supermarkets. Migros, Kipa, Sok, which is sufficient in any area.

It's hard for me to say something about shopping. On the streets there are many small shops with cheap knitwear and small outlets from LC Waikiki, De Facto etc.

There is a relatively large shopping center directly opposite the bus station building. Money can be changed at banks or small shops.

Fish market

What's the point, brother?

A completely hidden place that you can’t get into from a swoop, but only on a tip, is the fish market and the restaurants located around it.

We got here in the evening, again on a tip from our apartment owner.

In the center of the market there are stalls of live fish and seafood vendors. Around the perimeter are colorful tables and chairs from several restaurants. The place is lively and quite large . In addition to tourists, there are many locals here, and their character of the meal is radically different from ours.

First, you circle around the stalls with fresh fish and choose the one that looks into your eyes.

Establishing mutual contact is hindered by sellers who grab these “beauties” by the gills and immediately throw them on the scales without your consent. Prices are about 25-35 liras per kg of delicious fish and 30-40 liras for large shrimp.

Our catch for dinner

Having made 2 circles clockwise, we found a portly Dorado and large shrimp. The whole purchase was tightened by 40 lire.

They say that you yourself can choose a restaurant where they will cook it all for you, but the seller himself indicated to us the place where the cooked catch would be taken out.

Armed with glasses of beer and patience, we began to wait for the culmination of the evening. From time to time we were distracted by the waiters, bringing under their noses their trays with a large selection of snacks. No snacks, but 10 lire for a small plate.

Seeing our disregard for their work, they lost interest in us.

Sliced bread, water without gas and a large salad bowl with assorted vegetables lit up on the table. After 20 minutes they brought our catch, but already fried and baked.

We ordered a mangal version of working with fish and shrimp with some kind of sauce. The fish was delicious but the shrimp and sauce were divine.

In the restaurant we paid 15 lire for beer and 15 lire for cooking each dish and 1 lire for a large green salad. As a result, for 2 of us we got 110 lira and a delicious and unusual dinner (they didn’t take money for water and bread).

Turkish families eat quite differently. Here you have an aperitif, a digestif, crayfish, wine, tea, and even sweets. We only serve food like this at weddings. I can only imagine how much they had to pay for the celebratory (I hope) dinner.

The market works seven days a week and somehow reminded me of the restaurant district in Istanbul - Kumkapi.

Parking in Fethiye

In Fethiye, and in Oludeniz, not everything is so simple with parking.

Along the waterfront of Fethiye there are small pockets where you can park your car. When it comes to street parking, almost everything here is paid. If you live in apartments in the center of Fethiye, then look for secure parking. We found one of these right next to the marina.

Payment there is hourly, and there is per day. I don't remember the tariffs anymore (like 7 lire for up to 3 hours of parking), but in general it's cheaper than parking a car by the road.

We arrived on a weekend and the owner of our apartment, Fernando, said that we were in accuart stood at the bus stop (I later found the letter D under the car). Later I corrected the situation, but not completely.

I parked my car in front, and parking there is only allowed after hours and on weekends. On Monday, before 7.00, the car had to be removed, otherwise a fine could be added to the piggy bank.

Good to know

What captivates Fethiye is the absence of any large-sized buildings. In the same Marmaris, you simply cannot see the sea because of the reinforced concrete bodies of "terry" hotels. In Fethiye, a few blocks from the sea, all the houses and shops are undersized, with green lawns around them and wide roads that few people drive on.

This view has a very calming and captivating effect on the inhabitants of today's megacities.

On the other hand, Fethiye is by no means a village, which may suggest itself as a conclusion. Well, somehow they manage not to "seize the means" and not to expel an apartment building or a shopping center obscuring the horizon.

Well done, in general! I was very pleased))
