Attractions near Evpatoria. What to see in the vicinity of Evpatoria: swan and pink lakes, excavations of ancient settlements, radar, lighthouse. The main attractions of the city

Evpatoria is a well-known resort town located in the west of Crimea, on the coast of the Kalamitsky Bay, 55 km from Simferopol. It is known primarily for its health resorts, sanatoriums, boarding houses and other specialized medical and resort institutions. Although there are also enough historical monuments and interesting places here, because Evpatoria is one of the oldest cities in Crimea, founded in the 4th century BC.

What to see in Evpatoria on your own?

Beautiful places and main attractions of the city and its environs: photos with descriptions, tips on where to go, where to go by car, what to see in one day.

Embankment named after Gorky

This embankment is considered one of the most beautiful on the territory of the Crimean peninsula. It was created in the late 19th - early 20th centuries, mainly by wealthy aristocrats, among whom it was popular to relax in the Crimea. Therefore, the whole street was occupied by various mansions, each with its own zest.

Some of the buildings adorn the embankment to this day, but they serve as sanatoriums, clinics and other similar institutions. Walking along the embankment, you can find many interesting eye-catching sculptures, but the sculpture of Hercules is a kind of calling card.

According to legend, the famous Greek demigod hero loved to spend his leisure time at this place, which is why he is depicted as having a rest, and not performing feats.

Living Sculpture Park

In the summer months, vacationers in Yevpatoriya have an amazing opportunity to look at a whole park of reviving sculptures, which is located on the embankment. Gorky.

Of course, these are not sculptures in reality, but simply very high-quality make-up of actors who perform their function. However, it is very hard to add that an ordinary person can stand motionless for a long time in the heat, and even in an elaborate pose, in an eccentric costume and covered with a decent layer of makeup. Therefore, all theater actors undergo special training.

It is also worth saying a few words about the work of make-up and costume designers: they really do something incredible, creating real works of art.

Arboretum

Now Evpatoria is a colorful green city, and it's hard to believe that it wasn't always like this. Previously, the vegetation was represented by small green areas, which were diligently cultivated by some local residents. It's all about the clay soil, which is completely unfavorable for the growth of representatives of the flora.

All this makes the existence of a green arboretum even more valuable. Here you can find a huge number of plant species, both local and imported. An interesting harmonious combination of natural and man-made beauties, in the form of bizarre fountains and neat alleys.

The park becomes especially beautiful in spring, when it is filled with all kinds of flowers and aromas. This corner of silence is simply created for admiring nature and relaxing from the hustle and bustle.

Aquarium

It is located on the territory of one of the most popular parks in Evpatoria - Frunze Park. The atmosphere in the aquarium is very mysterious and pleasant: the halls are made in the style of cave grottoes, twilight reigns and the reflections of water are displayed on the walls.

All this resembles an underwater cave: it seems that now a little mermaid will emerge from around the corner. In the aquarium you can find many different marine life, some of them very unusual, such as snake fish and Aravana, which can jump up to three meters above the surface of the water.

You can also look at huge sharks that can grow up to 10 tons, and only glass separates visitors from these huge fish.

Dolphinarium

Another wonderful place where you can have a great free time with children. Evpatoria was the first city in the Crimea, which organized a dolphinarium in 1996, and today this dolphinarium is the largest on the peninsula.

It presents a lot of entertainment programs that will be of interest to both children and adults. On the water stage, in addition to dolphins, you can see fur seals, white whales, sea lions.

You can also personally communicate with a dolphin if the child is over five years old and knows how to swim (this option is also available for adults, but only if the weight is not more than 100 kg).

Aquapark "At Lukomorye"

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the summer, despite the proximity of the beach. The water park is located directly under the open sky, so it works only in the summer.

Stylistically, it is based on the fairy tales of A.S. Pushkin (as one might assume, judging by the title). It includes a huge variety of water attractions: children's slides, more extreme adult slides, as well as 3 pools and a relax zone.

On weekends, you can successfully get to various animation programs and colorful performances. There is also a cafe on site where you can dine and take a break from the heat.

  • Address: st. Kirova, 35, Evpatoria

Water park "Banana Republic"

Another water park located at the entrance to Evpatoria. The area of the water park is about 4 hectares, and it includes 8 pools and 25 water attractions.

An interesting feature is the location on the sea coast: firstly, a beautiful view of the sea opens up, and secondly, the water park has its own beach, which allows visitors to relax a bit on the shore from the noisy slides.

Speaking of slides, there is a huge variety of them here, of different types of difficulty: there are both fun family slides, like Springboard, where you can arrange speed competitions, and extreme ones, for example, Kamikaze with a height of 21 m, an open track, steep turns and free fall effect at the end.

lost World

Who in childhood did not read encyclopedias about dinosaurs and did not dream of seeing these giant reptiles! Now this can be done by visiting a wonderful park. The sculptures here are "live" and full-sized! They can move, growl and breathe.

Of course, all these are machines, but it is quite simple to turn on your imagination, and growling huge lizards can pretty scare impressionable people (especially small children).

All exhibits are made in great detail, next to each there is a sign that, in simple language, but based on real scientific data, will tell about the lifestyle and biological characteristics of a representative of the ancient world.

Park "Crimea in miniature"

An option for those who do not like to go on excursions or do not have time to see everything, but still want to see the main sights.

The masters who worked on the creation of miniatures tried to keep the proportions of real structures exactly and paid much attention to details. So, it is quite possible that visiting the park, on the contrary, will inspire someone to travel to the places they like.

Despite the fact that the park of miniatures is not the only one in Crimea, it has its own highlight: it is an impressive light show of 100,001 light bulbs, which you can admire after sunset.

Tropicpark

This is a tropical corner, located right on the territory of the children's amusement park. But to get to the tropical inhabitants, you have to dare and step into the dragon's mouth (this is how the exotarium is stylized).

In fact, this is a petting zoo, only instead of the usual rabbits and hedgehogs, you can pet and hold pygmy monkeys, lemurs and even capybaras. You can admire colorful exotic birds, which are allocated a separate floor of the complex.

Another pride of the park is a huge anaconda located in a terrarium, and there are plenty of other reptiles in the territory.

  • Address: st. Tokareva, 43, Evpatoria

Rope park

Rope parks are always perceived as children's entertainment, but this place is quite suitable for adults, because the park has special extreme adult tracks. So, a great place for those who are still an active and curious child at heart.

Of course, kids will love it too. There are also children's trails, and they are definitely more popular than adults. Despite the fact that passing obstacles is a lot of fun, it is also educational.

But it is worth remembering the safety rules: children under 130 cm tall and adults weighing more than 100 kg are not allowed on the tracks, it is also unacceptable to pass the tracks without equipment (instructors will explain the rules in more detail).

Gezlev Gate

This is a reminder that once on the site of modern Evpatoria there was a Tatar city of Gezlev. The gate was built at the end of the 15th century, and was called "Odun-bazaar-kapusy", which means "Gate of the wood market".

They got such a name due to the fact that at the entrance to the city, right behind these gates, there was a bazaar, where mainly firewood was sold. The path of the Crimean khans often lay through these gates when they came from Bakhchisaray, where the khan's capital was located, to Gezlev to pray in one of the most beautiful mosques on the Crimean peninsula.

Now you can not only look at the gate from the outside, but also visit the museum, which is located on the first and third floors. It is also worth having lunch in an ethnic cafe on the second floor, where you can get acquainted with real Tatar cuisine.

Museum of Local Lore

The museum was founded in 1925 and was located in the former estate of the merchant Gelilovich M.Yu., which was confiscated some time after the revolution. Moreover, many household items and cultural values were confiscated along with the estate and exhibited as exhibits.

In general, at the beginning of the existence of the museum, most of the exhibits were the confiscated things of wealthy nobles. Subsequently, more than 200 paintings were added to the museum's collection, which were collected around the world.

Unfortunately, the museum was badly damaged during the Nazi occupation: it was plundered, and most of the exhibits were taken to Germany. In 1944, it began to be gradually restored. Now the huge collection of the museum includes about 80 thousand exhibits related to the rich history of Evpatoria.

Evpatoria glass pyramid

Not only Paris can boast of such a creation, there is a glass pyramid in Evpatoria and is located near the Museum of Local Lore. It is intended not so much to attract tourists, but to create a canopy over the ruins of Kerkinitida.

This ancient settlement was created by the ancient Greeks, who migrated from their native places due to overpopulation. It turns out that scientists have been trying to discover the settlement for a long time and were looking mainly in the vicinity, few people would have thought that another ancient one was buried under the modern city.

Behind the glass you can see many ancient artifacts that clearly tell about the life of that time, about politics and trade.

  • Address: Simferopolskaya st., 89, Evpatoria, Crimea, Russia

Museum of the Crimean War

The museum is a branch of the Museum of Local Lore, and was opened in 2012. By visiting it, you can learn about the difficult period in the history of the peninsula. And usually, when mentioning the Crimean War, Sevastopol comes to mind first, but do not forget that the first landing of hostile troops took place precisely in the area of \u200b\u200bmodern Evpatoria.

The museum is small but has pretty good prospects. Among the exhibits you can see the uniforms of soldiers and officers, various types of weapons, portraits of the leaders of militant states, and the model of the French frigate, which was the first to land troops on the coast of the peninsula, is also highly valued.

Theater named after A. Pushkin

One evening from your coastal vacation can be set aside for cultural enlightenment. Theatre. A.S. Pushkin is ideal for this purpose.

It boasts a rich repertoire, so you can find a theater production for every taste: ballets, plays, comedy performances, musical evenings. Unfortunately, the theater does not have its own corpse, so touring artists perform on stage.

In addition, the theater is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the South of Russia. The building was built in the Greek style with Art Nouveau elements. The terrace offers a beautiful view of the sea, so during the intermission you can not run to the buffet, but stand and admire the scenery.

Theater "Golden Key"

Despite the name, which implies only children's repertoire, adults will also be able to find interesting performances to their taste. After all, the theater has three halls, which host performances for different age groups: from performances for the smallest to plays with a limit of 16+.

What makes the theater really interesting is that in addition to standard performances, creative evenings and master classes for children are held there. Moreover, any child can try his hand at acting and take part in the production on stage without any hindrance.

Church of Saint Elijah

The construction of the temple began in 1911 and continued until 1918. Upon completion of construction, the temple was consecrated in the name of the Holy Prophet Elijah.

The temple was erected on the initiative of the Greek community of Evpatoria, so it is made in the traditional Greek style and designed by the city architect A. L. Heinrich.

Despite the simple lines and outlines in the image of the church, multiple decorative details fit very organically into its appearance (stained-glass windows on the windows, elegant pilasters, arches with columns). A three-tiered bell tower catches the eye, the dome of which is visible even from the sea.

  • Address: st. Brothers Buslaev, 5, Evpatoria, Crimea, Russia

St. Nicholas Cathedral

The temple was founded in 1893 and consecrated in 1899. It is dedicated to the liberation of the Crimean peninsula from the Anglo-French-Turkish troops. St. Nicholas Cathedral is often compared with the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. It is made in the traditional Byzantine style and is an octagon.

Also striking is the huge main dome 18 m in diameter, at the base of which there are beautiful stained-glass windows in a circle. It is interesting that three types of crosses were used in the design of the temple: St. George (in honor of the fallen), Byzantine (associated with the campaign against Constantinople) and Orthodox.

On the territory near the temple there is a monument to A.V. Suvorov, who in 1779 saved Gezlev from the plague by introducing strict quarantine measures and opening free public baths.

Juma-Jami Mosque

The mosque was founded by the order of Khan Devlet I Giray in 1552. Created by the famous architect of that time, H. Sinan, it is still considered the most beautiful in the Crimea.

The author was partly inspired by the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, which can be seen in the guise of a mosque. A huge number of times it was rebuilt, restored, and after the advent of Soviet power, it was closed and used as a warehouse. Only in the 90s it was restored.

Now the appearance of the mosque is closest to the original building. The huge main dome 11 m in diameter at a height of 22 m and two minarets 33 m high are visible from almost anywhere in the city and serve as a kind of landmark. Today the mosque is open for visiting not only believers, but also tourists.

Armenian Church of Surb Nikoghayos

The church was built in the very center of the Armenian quarter on the site of an old wooden building. Construction began in 1817 and went on for a very long time, as there were not enough funds.

To date, the original facades of the buildings have remained intact, lined with smooth white stones. The architecture of the building is quite simple, there is also no rich decoration inside, the entire interior is made in a muted beige color.

An interesting fact: during construction, hollow vessels were placed in the facades of the building, and it is precisely because of this that the temple has such good acoustics. I would also like to highlight relics that are especially valuable for the parishioners: an icon dedicated to the Armenian genocide and a picture with the Armenian alphabet.

Karaite kenasses

This is a whole temple complex, which includes the Big and Small Kenasses, a school, a canteen and an inn. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the architects Bobovich brothers.

The entrance to the kenasses is decorated with a triumphal arch and columns. Also on the territory there is a vineyard, which is a 30-meter corridor with a metal grate entwined with vines, a marble courtyard, which is a direct continuation of the vineyard and lined with Italian marble.

There is also a courtyard waiting for prayer and a lapidarium, where samples of ancient writing are collected. Well, directly kenasses: a small one, in which services are held on weekdays, and a large one, where services are held on weekends and on holidays.

Synagogue Egia-Kapai

The first stone of the synagogue was solemnly laid in 1911, and already in 1912 the first service was held. The construction was carried out mainly with the money of the Jewish community, although the Duma of Evpatoria also provided significant assistance.

After the revolution, the synagogue was closed due to religious persecution, and during the Nazi occupation it was converted into a stable. In 1998, restoration began and in 2003 it was reopened. The walls are made of yellow limestone, there are 3 entrances to the synagogue: the middle entrance for men and 2 side entrances for women.

The main attraction is the altar on which the Torah scroll is located. The servants of the synagogue accept not only believers, but also conduct tours for tourists, and, moreover, completely free of charge, although it would be more correct to leave a voluntary donation.

Tekie dervishes

This is the only surviving Muslim monastery on the territory of the Crimean peninsula, founded at the turn of the 14th-15th centuries, and it has been preserved almost in its original form.

It was built for dervishes - wandering Muslim monks who renounced worldly goods and devoted their lives to serving God and helping other people.

The monastery consists of several buildings, including a mosque, a sulfian madrasah (educational institution) and the tekiye themselves, which are analogues of the cells of Muslim monks. Everything is decorated very modestly, but at the same time, the monastery has a very mysterious and pleasant atmosphere.

Ancient settlement "Seagull"

This ancient city existed in the period of antiquity in the 4th-2nd centuries. BC, and discovered it in 1959, when a sanatorium was being built, after which the settlement was named.

During the excavations, in addition to the usual household items of the Scythian and Greek inhabitants, real works of art of that time were discovered: a limestone relief, which is a sculpture of Hercules, and a bronze figurine depicting an Amazon.

According to art historians, the author of these works was the ancient sculptor Lysippus, who worked at the court of Alexander the Great himself. The bronze statuette is now located in the Hermitage, and the sculpture called "Hercules on Rest" has replenished the collection of the local history museum of Yevpatoria.

Museum "Pirates of the Black Sea"

The museum is very young, founded only in 2013. It is unlikely that it has anything to do with pirates, it was rather created to tell visitors about maritime affairs, the history of navigation and the life of sailors in a popular language. But, nevertheless, the museum has an interesting design in the form of cabins for sailors and rooms with pirate treasures.

It is also worth noting the very attentive staff who will conduct an interesting tour and help you immerse yourself in pirate everyday life.

Despite its young age, the museum already has a rich collection of exhibits, most of which consist of interesting finds by local divers. Children will be most interesting, especially since the tour lasts no more than an hour, so little sailors will not have time to get tired.

"House of Wine"

This is already an option that will be of interest to an adult audience. Winemaking has been flourishing on the Crimean peninsula for over 2000 years, and the wine house was created to educate tourists about the history and culture of drinking this drink.

Here you can visit the museum, which presents a rich collection of exhibits, and some of them are about 2500 years old (Greek ceramic dishes for drinking, storing and transporting wine).

You can also sign up for a paid tasting and purchase your favorite products in the store at the museum. Moreover, you can find both budget options and exclusive 70-year-old wine (which, however, will have to be ordered and wait for delivery).

Pharmacy Museum

This historic pharmacy still exists, and not only as a museum. Being the first Crimean pharmacy, it appeared back in 1823 and worked for about 50 years, after which the pharmacist Roffe bought the building, building his mansion in its place and opening a new pharmacy on the ground floor.

There are still original racks, scales, cones, drug tags, which today are exhibited and create an amazing historical atmosphere, as if you really ended up in a 19th century pharmacist's shop.

Since the pharmacy is still operating, you can literally combine business with pleasure and get a little acquainted with the history of the pharmaceutical industry by purchasing medicines. Although, it is better to come here not out of necessity, but just for a tour.

Postal Museum

This is a young museum, founded in 2006 on the basis of the existing post office number 14. A visit to the museum will help you learn about the development of the postal service in our country.

This is what the exposition entitled "From the Messenger to the Internet" is devoted to, which clearly shows the changes in the transmission of mail messages using photographs of various postal vehicles, depicted in chronological order. In the museum you can find several interesting exhibits: a postcard from 1914 and an issue of Iskra magazine from 1916.

It is interesting that some of the exhibits are even used today in the work of the post office, for example, ancient scales, which, despite their age, work with the accuracy of their electronic counterparts.

Museum "Kara-Torbe"

An interesting open-air museum is the settlement of Kara-Torbe. It was created at the beginning of the 19th century, and in 1934 the archaeologist P.N. Schultz began to conduct excavations, which are still ongoing.

The museum presents a huge number of archaeological finds that clearly tell about the life of the inhabitants of the ancient city. Moreover, exhibits of both Greek and Scythian origin are presented, which allows us to conclude that two warring peoples alternately owned the city.

Interestingly, the purpose of the museum is not only an exhibition of finds, the base also houses a center for experimental archeology, the purpose of which is the reconstruction of ancient buildings.

Moinak lake

This amazing lake with healing water was once part of the sea, but after the spit formed, it separated. It is believed that because of this, the water acquired its beneficial properties: minerals accumulated in it for a long time.

Mentions of the lake were even found in ancient Greek literature, only in the 19th century people became interested in its healing properties and began to actively study it.

Now, crowds of people come to the shores of this salty lake who want to improve their health, swim in salt water and do mud wraps right on the beach. But still, you should not engage in amateur activities, and it is better to consult a doctor. After all, one should not forget one simple truth: “everything is a poison, and everything is a medicine” - it depends on the dose!

Tram of desires

This tram was put into operation the very first in Evpatoria in 1914.

It is also interesting because it is single-track, because because of the small streets of the city there was no place for full-fledged tram rails. The final stop is in Frunze Park, where you can buy a ticket for the magic tram and ride around all parts of the city, listening to the guide along the way.

Of course, with such a name, the tram has its own sign: in order for a wish to come true, you must step on the first step with your left foot, and at that time hold on to the handrail with your right hand, in parallel formulating a wish to yourself, and then ride around the city.

  • Address: the tram has a long route, but the final stop is located at st. Gorky, 9I, Evpatoria

Frunze Central Park

This is the most important and famous park in Evpatoria, which is very rich in entertainment and various activities. No wonder it is so popular with tourists.

In the morning, this is a quiet place where you can sit on a bench by the picturesque fountain. During the day, this is the abode of fun and children's laughter with its amusement park, children's city of fairy tales and access to the central beach.

And in the evening, the park becomes the center of Yevpatoriya's nightlife, filled with street musicians, cheerful tourists and locals, you can find restaurants and cafes for every taste, listen to a concert on the stage of the variety hall.

Duvan's house

This is one of the most beautiful buildings in Yevpatoria, located in the Old Town area. And although the building is relatively young, created in 1902 by order of a large landowner S.E. Duvan, it fits perfectly into the architectural style of ancient buildings.

The house was designed in the Art Nouveau style by the famous architect of that time P.Ya. Seferov, who already managed to earn a good reputation in Simferopol. Interestingly, the owner himself did not even live in the house, but only rented out apartments to guests, so the estate gained fame as Duvan's guest house.

Those who are tired of visiting standard sights and the same type of beach holiday should turn their attention to karting. The tracks of the international karting center meet all quality standards, in 2017 it even hosted the Russian Championship, so it has been tested by professionals.

In this center, you can simply rent a car and special equipment for one race, or visit a karting school. Just before visiting, you should call in advance and make sure that there are no races on that day.

During the Second World War, after the liberation of the peninsula from the Nazis, the Soviet authorities requisitioned the building for the needs of a nursing home, and only in 1984 it was returned the status of an architectural monument. In 2012, the restored temple was opened to believers and sightseers interested in the culture of the ancient Armenian people.

After the Second World War and the persecution of religion in the Soviet period, the building was fully restored only by 2004. Cultural program and sights of Evpatoria in city museums

It doesn’t matter if you came on vacation with children or a purely adult team. Everyone needs new knowledge, impressions and positive emotions. Having visited such a city rich in historical events, in which the most important persons of the state and cultural figures once visited, it would be wrong to leave home without visiting at least part of its museums, exhibitions and expositions. The cultural program offered to vacationers also deserves attention: performances by local theaters, concerts by leading local musicians and invited Russian pop stars.

In the illustrated guide "Crimea, Evpatoria: photos of the city and sights", as well as many other tourist guides and guides, you can find the addresses of all the most interesting objects and centers of cultural life:

  • Evpatoria Museum of Local Lore and the mothballed excavations of an ancient Greek settlement located at its entrance.
  • Children's theater "Golden Key" and the contemporary art gallery "theHARASHO" located in it.
  • Pushkin City Theatre.
  • Historical Museum dedicated to the Crimean War of 1853-1856
  • Museum-memorial "Red Hill", reminiscent of the feat of the defenders of the Crimea in the hard times of World War II.
  • Exposition, tasting cellar and shop "Dom Vina".
  • Museum complex "Old Marine Pharmacy".

And you can also make exciting family excursions to the park attractions of Evpatoria:

  • a picturesque arboretum where even palm trees grow;
  • a unique park-installation "Crimea in miniature";
  • inhabited by exotic representatives of the fauna "Tropic Park".

In Crimea, any walk around the city or an ordinary trip on a rare single-track tram turns into a kind of excursion, during which you don’t want to let go of your camera. Before leaving home, take a walk to the sea and throw a ritual coin into it, because you will definitely want to return again and again.

Water parks and other attractions of the entertainment complex of Evpatoria

Children will never forgive you if the family does not spend time at least once in the water parks "At Lukomorye" and "Banana Republic", and does not attend a performance in the famous Evpatoria Dolphinarium. This indoor center for keeping marine mammals is considered one of the largest among all such complexes in the Crimea. Almost daily, it hosts fascinating and memorable performances with the participation of dolphins - the most intelligent and good-natured inhabitants of the sea and ocean depths.

And yet, armed with a map of the sights of Evpatoria and the immediate environs, you can take a ride to the healing Lake Monai - a source of unique therapeutic mud, and visit the Sasyk-Sivash salt lake located on the eastern outskirts of the city. This reservoir is famous for the fact that salt was mined from its bottom sediments in the time of Chersonesos. An additional "highlight" of the lake lies in the unexpected pinkish hue of the water, to which Sasyk-Sivash owes rare species of algae living in its waters.

We hope you are convinced that Yevpatoria has many attractions and entertainment centers, thanks to which the vacation spent here will be remembered for a long time. We wish you an exciting holiday and good weather.

Evpatoria is a beautiful resort town on the Black Sea coast. Have you planned a vacation to soak up the gentle sun and breathe in the healing air, but didn’t think where to go? Below you can find out what sights of Evpatoria proudly welcome tourists visiting Crimea.

Historical sights of Evpatoria

Tekiye is one of the first Turkish religious buildings in Evpatoria. It was built in the 15th century with the purpose of sheltering wandering monks - dervishes. Inside the building were the cells of the dervishes, which are tiny rooms with wooden windows. Two hundred years ago, there were more than 20 tekiye in the Crimea, and today only one, located in Evpatoria, has survived.

The synagogue was opened in 1912 and has experienced a lot since then. During the Great Patriotic War, the Nazis used the temple as a stable to show all their dislike for the Jewish people. Today, the ancient landmark of Evpatoria is open to the public. Tourists can visit the ethnographic museum, and then have lunch at the Yoskin Kot cafe, tasting dishes of national Jewish cuisine.

The ancient city of Kerkinitida existed in the 5th century BC on the territory of modern Evpatoria. The city ceased to exist in the 4th century AD, it was destroyed by the nomadic tribes of the Huns. The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding, conducted sea and land trade with the nearest settlements, including Chersonesus (modern Sevastopol), Troy, Rhodes and others. The city was considered free, and the political regime was democracy. You can take a look at the remains of Kerkinitida by visiting the excavations and the Museum of Local Lore.

In the distant 15th century, the Ottoman Turks built a powerful fortress around the territory of present-day Evpatoria, but the fortress has not survived to this day. The last complete remnant of the defensive wall with gates stood until the middle of the 20th century, but in 1959 it was destroyed. The Gezlev gates were restored in 2004. Today, tourists can visit the museum and a small cafe to learn more about the everyday life of the Tatars, look at the layout of an ordinary medieval fortress and just have a bite to eat in a warm friendly company.

You can hear another name of the mosque - Khan-Jami, nevertheless, it is worth seeing. It is the main mosque in the city and occupies a special place in the list of "Ancient sights of Evpatoria". The foundation of the temple took place at the end of the 16th century, and its original function was prayers to Allah.

For some unknown reasons, some parts of the building could not stand even a hundred years, in 1666 the first minaret collapsed, and 200 years later, the second one. Both minarets were restored in the other half of the 20th century. To date, this historical landmark has acquired its first appearance and is open to the public.

6. Memorial "Red Hill"

Ask any local resident, and he will answer you without hesitation how to get to Krasnaya Gorka. The construction of the memorial site began immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War, and today it is the main symbol of endless memory and gratitude, dedicated to all those who fought for our freedom.

Residents of Evpatoria and visitors do not forget about those who died in our lives during military holidays, but even on non-holidays, families with children can be seen walking around. Around the memorial there is an amazing park with benches for rest.

The temple began to be built in 1911, and this event dragged on until 1918. The first rector of this place, Elizar Spiridonov, began to establish the history of the church. After the revolution, he was accused of anti-Soviet propaganda and sent into exile for 5 years. The Church of St. Elijah, in which he served his "punishment", became his place of death, and after this event the church was closed.

Then a children's sports school was founded there, but three years later, during the seizure of territories by the German invaders, services in the temple were resumed. It was slightly damaged during the war, but was restored after it ended. In the recent 2008, the Church of St. Elijah celebrated its 90th anniversary.

When Evpatoria was called Gezlev, there were hundreds of baths of various sizes in the city, but they all belonged to wealthy citizens. The poor were not held in high esteem, and only 5 public baths were included in their use. One such has survived to this day, it is no longer used for its intended purpose, but it meets tourists to show them all its beauty. At the moment, the baths have been updated and correspond to the concept of “redecoration”, tourists can visit them, because dozens of local guides are ready to provide their services for a small fee.

When the Crimean War ended, it was decided to found a temple in the city. This matter was not shelved, and already in 1893 the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker began to be built. A lot of money was spent on its construction, part of which was donated by Alexander III and Yakov Chepurin, and the other part was collected from various communities living on the territory of Evpatoria, including Muslims, Jews and other local residents.

The cathedral was consecrated in 1899, and the old church, which was located near it, was dismantled. Today, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a unique landmark of Evpatoria, which is compared with the Hagia Sophia, located in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Today, this wonderful temple complex is one of the relics of an ancient people called Karaites that have survived to this day. All those interested have the opportunity to visit excursions, look into the library called "Karay-bitikligi" and dine at the "Karaman" cafe, having tasted all the dishes of the national Karaite cuisine.

As with many religious buildings, the Bolsheviks treated kenas badly. In 1927 they were closed, and an anti-religious museum was erected in their place, which later became a historical one. After dozens of events and reforms carried out with kenas, in 2005 it was restored and opened to the public.
