From baden baden airport to city. Blog of Elena Iskhakova. Hotels in the transit zone

Two major cities in Germany - Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe are served by only one civilian airport. The Germans did not come up with a name for the airport for a long time, so it is listed in all directories as Baden-Baden / Karlsruhe Airport. Although it used to be a military airfield, over the years it was successfully reorganized into a civilian one. The flow of tourists opened up and, of course, this could not but affect the economic well-being of the entire country.

The international commercial airport is located 25 kilometers from the resort town of Baden-Baden, very close to the border with France. The regional airport handles a large passenger flow - about 1.5 million per year.

In the schematic representation of the Baden-Baden/Karlsruhe airport, you can see that it contains only one runway, which is 3 kilometers long and 45 meters wide. Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport consists of one passenger terminal building equipped with 20 check-in counters and eight exit gates. There are eight planes on the platform, most of which are medium-sized, such as the Boeing 737. Due to the location of the airport terminal, buses are used to bring passengers on board.

Services

The airport provides various services to its passengers. As standard, the airport has cafes and restaurants, various clothing, food and drink stores. Find something to keep you busy for a few hours.

Passengers with children have the opportunity to relax in a specialized play area. In addition to various entertainment venues, the airport building has representative offices of travel companies, a left-luggage office system, car rental services, ATMs, mobile phone sales counters and other important facilities.

There is also a three-star hotel at an affordable price, where you can get a good night's sleep after an exhausting flight. The B&B Baden-Aeropark offers great rates for overnight stays right at the airport. If passengers have a lot of time before the flight, you can sleep peacefully in the room. In addition, the prices at the hotel are low!

Would you like to take a tour of the city of Baden-Baden? It's only 18 kilometers away! This can be done with the help of the aforementioned car rental companies. There is also public transport that runs during the day at intervals of 1 hour.

Airport parking

There is a sufficient number of public parking spaces on site. Please note that passengers and guests of the airport are charged for parking, which is high by Russian standards. Details of parking prices can be found on the official website of this airport. However, for guests of the aforementioned B&B Baden-Aeropark, a reduced parking fee is possible. To do this, you must show your parking ticket at the hotel reception before departure, as well as before paying at the car park ATM.

Flight search engines

If you have already chosen the Baden-Baden airport terminal as your departure point, flight search engines provide an easy way to select the exact flights from that airport. All you have to do is enter the destination. Various airlines, times and prices will be shown. All this is for comparison. The information is constantly updated, so you can be sure that you provide yourself with the most up-to-date and best deal. If you have some additional criteria, the site filter will take care of that. The tool allows you to search for return options and itineraries for multiple destinations, and filter them for selected airlines, creating the perfect travel experience.

Deadlines are everything. When you fly, it is always better to arrive in Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden in advance. If there are any delays on the way, if you are traveling from afar, and you are leaving right in the morning, you can stay overnight in a hotel near the airport. Through the booking sites you can find out what accommodation options are available. It is worth remembering that you will need to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight will depart. This will give you enough time to relax in the departure lounge after checking your luggage.

How to save money on a trip

If you have been following the best prices for flights through air ticket search engines for a long time, then this can significantly help you save on paying for an air ticket if you are going to travel. On many sites, you can view airfare prices almost a month in advance. The further the departure date, the cheaper the fare. This is because fares can vary significantly from one scheduled trip to the next. If you start looking for the best option in advance, you can significantly save on the trip. The same is with hotels - very often there are various discounts, sometimes even 50%, or even higher. Remember that the journey begins with the purchase of a ticket.

Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe share some 50 km. Therefore, being in Karlsruhe, I, of course, could not help dragging my husband to Baden-Baden. It happened on our very first visit. But in subsequent times we made a return to this town. Baths, casinos, quiet streets bearing the imprint of history - that's what attracts tourists to Baden-Baden.

Karlsruhe to Baden-Baden by train

From Karlsruhe to Baden-Baden can be reached by rail. Bahn trains run in this direction about 3 times per hour. In the schedule, you can find high-speed trains, and regional, and regular trains.

The trip will take from 14 to 35 minutes depending on the chosen train class. On average, the journey takes about 20 minutes. Departure station - Karlsruhe Central Station. The arrival station is the only railway station in Baden-Baden.

Where to buy tickets

You can buy tickets on the website bahn.de. You can also check the train schedule here. You can also buy tickets at the Karlsruhe railway station at ticket offices or special machines. It is worth learning how to buy tickets using these methods in advance (for example, by reading this article), since not all Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden flights can be purchased online.

Ticket price

Ticket prices start at 11.5 euros. Also in the schedule you can see the price of 12 and 16.5 euros. A trip by train will cost a few euros cheaper. Check the current price information when buying tickets.

By tram

Don't let this subtitle surprise you. Some call the S-Bahn S7 trains a tram, others an electric train. But the bottom line is that in order to use this transport you do not need to get to the Karlsruhe railway station. The starting station will be Karlsruhe Hbf Vorplatz and the final station will be Baden-Baden Bahnhof. The tram leaves once an hour at 9:30, 10:30 am and so on. Travel time is about half an hour. The tram makes a full circle in an hour.

Where can I buy a ticket

You can buy tickets at the vending machines at the bus stop or at the vending machine located right inside the tram.

Ticket price

Tickets will cost 7.3 euros. You can see more details on this site.

By bus

You can also get to Baden-Baden by bus. But I would not recommend this option. It seems to me that the train or tram is more convenient. This is because buses leave from Karlsruhe Airport and you will need to get there first. But if you arrive in Karlsruhe by plane and go to Baden-Baden without stopping in the city, then the bus will be the most convenient option for you. You need to take bus number 205. It departs from Karlsruhe Airport and arrives in Baden-Baden at the train station. The bus leaves about once an hour. It takes about half an hour on the way.

Where can I buy a ticket

The ticket can be purchased at the airport before the trip or on the bus when boarding

Ticket price

The ticket price is a few euros, and definitely does not exceed the price tag of 10 euros.

By taxi

Another option to get from one city to another is a taxi. The trip will take about 30-45 minutes. You can read more about taxis in Germany. The trip will cost at least 100 euros. It all depends on the class of car and specific pick-up/drop-off points. This option is suitable for you if you are traveling with a group of 3 or more people, if you have a lot of luggage, or if getting from the point of departure in Karlsruhe to the point of arrival in Baden-Baden is not so easy.

By car

You can overcome the distance of 50 km between cities on a personal or rented car (you can find out the cost of renting a car using some service, for example). The trip will take 30-45 minutes. Traveling on German roads is still free, so your costs will consist of car rental (if you are not driving your own vehicle) and fuel costs.

Modern life is becoming more and more dynamic, and travelers are no longer ready to spend time on long trips by train or bus, much less by ship. Therefore, the main mode of transport for moving over long distances is aviation. Currently, this type of transport, especially in the budget segment, is rapidly developing, and it requires an appropriate infrastructure. One of such infrastructure facilities is the German airport Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.

History and modernity

The construction of the airport began in 1951. From 1953 to 1994 it was used by the Canadian Air Force as a military airfield and was called Baden-Soellingen.

Later, Baden Airpark GmbH was engaged in its conversion into a civil one, intended mainly for receiving and sending flights of low-cost airlines.

The airport is currently called Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Flughafen Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden or FKB) and is part of the Baden-Airpark business park, which also houses other commercial facilities.

The airport complex is located in the town of Rheinmünster, which is located 40 km south of the city of Karlsruhe and 12 km west of the popular resort of Baden-Baden.

If you look at the map, other major cities located nearby are German Haguenau - 25 km to the east and French Strasbourg - 25 km to the north.

Basically, the airport receives and sends flights of low-cost airlines, such as the Irish Ryanair, the Russian Pobeda and others. It also operates charter flights.

The airport has a runway 3 km long and 45 meters wide, which allows it to receive large aircraft. In particular, in 2007 it received one of the world's largest transport aircraft AN-225 (Mriya), and Lufthansa trains its pilots here to fly the largest passenger aircraft A380. The airport also operates a flight school.

Since 2008, the airfield has consistently served over a million passengers a year. At the same time, the terminal building is designed to serve 1.5 million passengers.

If it is necessary to increase the number of flights, it is possible to add new terminals to the existing building.

The structure and features of the airport

The airport has only one runway, but due to the competent organization of flights, it provides air communication with various cities of the world.

The Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport building has 20 check-in counters and 8 boarding gates. Three gates are intended for flights outside the Schengen area, 4 - for movements within it. The eighth exit is used depending on the load both for flights within the Schengen area and outside it.

The flight schedule can be viewed on the scoreboard. There is also an online scoreboard on the official website of the airport.

Check-in for flights of most foreign companies served by the airport begins 2 hours before departure, for domestic flights - 1.5 hours. Only Turkish Airlines starts registering passengers 3 hours before departure.

For Eurowings, Pobeda Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air, check-in closes 40 minutes before departure, for Turkish Airlines - 60 minutes.

If the company you are interested in is not included in this list, you need to clarify the rules in force in it with its representatives.

The allowable baggage weight is determined by the internal rules of the airline - it should be clarified when buying tickets. You will have to pay extra for overweight.

Electronic cigarettes are not allowed in checked baggage - they must be in hand luggage or pockets. Any liquids carried in hand luggage must be in a package with a volume of no more than 100 ml. Before checking, they must be transferred to transparent plastic bags with a volume of not more than 1 liter, which can be closed and opened repeatedly. You can buy such packages in shops located in the airport building. The maximum number of bags with liquids is no more than 1 bag per passenger.

You can find out which items are prohibited for carriage in hand luggage in the rules of the company you have chosen. Maximum hand luggage size: 55x40x20 cm.

Services provided at the airport

From 06.00 to 23.00 in the airport complex there are left-luggage offices of the company APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH, where you can also order a parking space. Luggage storage and other items can be deposited, including car keys.

The tariff for services is set depending on the weight of the items handed over for one day of storage. Luggage storage is located next to the airport building, 200 m from it.

In addition to luggage storage, the airport has car rentals, travel agencies, a cafe and a beer bar. There is a playground and an observation deck for passengers waiting for flights.
