On the first day in Vienna, it is better to see the historical center and the most important things around, in order to get a general impression of the city, and on the second day, go to explore parks, castles and other surroundings of the city.

Hundertwasser House

We move further along Lowengasse, which smoothly turns into Radetzkystraße. It is worth walking again 500 meters and you can see the river Vena, which was hidden in a concrete box to protect against floods, due to which cholera outbreaks occurred.

Now it's hard to believe that such an almost dry river could bring so many troubles, but judging by the high banks, it really was a real river.

Danube Canal

Somewhere from here, 4 times a day, sent a sentry for 25 €, maybe you, like me, will not be crushed by a toad and you will ride on it.

On the way to the historic center, you can see the rather unusual Regensburger Hof building in front of which there is a monument to the inventor of printing, Johannes Gutenberg.

In the very center of Vienna, as it should be for Europe, the Cathedral. To do this, you need to go only 500 meters from the previous building. I must say right away that these 500 meters will still haunt us more than once.

Lovers of shopping and walks along the historical streets can cut several circles around this cathedral, here, as in all large historical cities, entire streets are dedicated to emptying your wallets.

A Plague Column was installed next to the church in honor of the fact that Vienna avoided the plague for a very long time, which swept through neighboring countries and cities in the 16-17 centuries.

It would not be a pity, but it's time to leave the historical center and slowly move to the district ring of several streets around it.

We move strictly to the west and after passing the treasured 500 meters, according to the map, we come across a Scottish monastery with a school attached to it. Church of St. Mary am Gestade

From here it was possible to go along the planned road to the Schottentor metro station, but on the tourist map, again, another attraction was noticed within a radius of 500 meters - the Church of St. Mary am Gestade. The place turned out to be not very remarkable, because the church is sandwiched between other buildings, but I really remember the road to it.

I really liked the moment when you walk along a flat city without slides and bridges, and suddenly a real street lies above you, which I was forced to climb by great curiosity. Who wants to find this place, then this is intersection of Tiefer Graben and Wipplingerstraße .

To reach the Church of St. Mary am Gestade, I had to go down again and walk several hundred meters.

Votivkirche Church and University of Vienna

Now you have to go back, but only 800 meters to one of the streets that form a semicircle around Old Vienna is the Universitätsring. From here, no less famous tourist sites of Vienna will begin, and the whole street is a solid tourist site, because. all the buildings on this street are in many guidebooks.

You can get to the beginning of the street by metro, you need to get off at Schottentor station. The exit from it is just at the beginning of the street and immediately around the corner is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in Europe, the University of Vienna, and if you look through a small park just to the right of the university, you can see the Votivkirche Church or the Votive Church.

How to get to Belvedere Palace:

There is no metro near the palace, but trams 71 and D run around the park that surrounds the palace. But I recommend not looking for trams, but taking the metro station Karlsplatz. The station is located 1.5 km from the palace, but there is something to see along the way, and at the same time to meet the whole day, because the Belvedere castle itself and the park for a whole day can be a bit too much.

Since we are talking about the subway, the next photo shows how deserted it is sometimes. Transport in Vienna works so well that I have never seen crowds of people on platforms or stops.

And for those who prefer to travel by tram, I will show you a couple of photos. Vienna trams , they are very modern and technologically advanced. In the first photo, there are just 71 trams going to the Belvedere Palace and a photo of the tram from the inside. As you can see again empty public transport. Maybe I was so lucky, but I got the impression that everything was just very well thought out and there was no traffic congestion from this.

If we are already talking about trams, then it will be much more interesting not modernized trams, but older ones. I don’t know if there are many of them left in Vienna, but the Vienna sightseeing tram runs along one of the routes.

It was a slight digression from the topic, now when we reached the Karlsplatz metro station, we can consider the second day in Vienna open. Immediately at the exit from the station, within a radius of 100-200 metro, there are the Karlskirche Church and the Ressel Park with a monument to Johannes Brahms.

500 meters from the church there is the Schwarzenbergplatz square, where the Memorial to the Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Vienna was installed. The number of the dead was in the thousands, and they tried to fit all their names on commemorative plaques. The monument to Soviet soldiers, like all the buildings of the city, is just as huge.

When visiting this city, I really wanted to try it, but I didn’t want to overpay, so I searched the network for a cafe where it’s not expensive and read the reviews, I settled on Zum Lercherl von Hernals by the address Hernalser Hauptstrasse 70 . It is located far from the tourist places, which means that it must be a real Wiener Schnitzel, and not a tourist fake.

I did not believe the stories of experienced people that the portions are simply huge and I personally ordered a whole portion for myself. Perhaps you were just very hungry, and when you are hungry it seems that you are ready to eat even more. In the end, I regretted it. In addition to the Schnitzel, there was also a plate of salad.
