The medical vessel of the 320 Ob type began to be commissioned by the USSR Navy starting from January 1981.

This floating hospital was not alone. In total, 4 such ships were built: Yenisei, Ob, Svir and Irtysh - one each for the Baltic, Northern, Pacific and Black Sea fleets.

Currently, only the Yenisei, based in the South Bay of Sevastopol, the Irtysh - the Pacific Fleet and the Svir, which is now being prepared for modernization, have survived from the entire series. Until 2008, the Ob HS was located at the Dalzavod pier in Vladivostok and, according to rumors, went to the nails. "Yenisei" distinguished itself during the Georgian-Abkhazian war of 1992, taking out 7,000 refugees in a month. In total, during her service, the ship visited 3 oceans, having carried out 200 operations in the Mediterranean alone.

The ship is obliged to perform 4 functions: treatment of wounded or sick sailors, evacuation of people from ships if necessary, organization of crew rest and supply of medical equipment to units and formations of the fleet.

2.

The tasks of the hospital ship "Irtysh" are now: receiving, distributing, providing medical care to the wounded, sick and injured in peacetime or during hostilities; evacuation of victims from ships and vessels; organization of events for the recreation of crews of ships and submarines at sea.

The hospital is able to receive the wounded and sick, both from the shore and at sea. To do this, two ladders are provided from each side, an electric crane for lifting six victims at once on the platform, a medical boat and a helicopter. The medical unit is concentrated directly in the middle part of the ship to reduce rolling from sea waves.

The air conditioning system provides favorable conditions in all areas of the ship. The hospital consists of: surgical, resuscitation, therapeutic, infectious, dermatological and emergency departments, an intensive care unit, wards for patients, an X-ray room, a diagnostic center, a pharmacy and a medical warehouse.

There are 100 places for patients on board the ship, and during the mass reception of patients up to 450. There are also 200 places for rehabilitation purposes. All medical facilities are equipped with the necessary equipment.

In 2016, the modernization of the ship's equipment began, the first stage of which was completed in August. After that, the ship made a long voyage, taking part in the ASEAN international exercises off the coast of Thailand. In their course, actions to provide assistance during natural disasters were practiced. On the Irtysh, wards were deployed to receive the seriously wounded, a team of naval doctors practiced methods of providing assistance and conducting operations in sea conditions.

The Irtysh is designed in such a way that all its operating rooms are below the waterline, so it does not shake even in heavy seas, operations can be performed even in a five-point storm.

8.

New surgical tables have recently been installed. They allow you to do all kinds of operations, including the most complex ones. Some new equipment, for example, in this resuscitation room has already been tested, as they say, in action.

This seemingly unpresentable box is actually a mini-operating room. With its help, you can not only save the patient's life, but also accelerate the healing of sutures.

9.

“In some operations, it was necessary to make an access of 20 centimeters. Here, operational access will be about a centimeter. This leads to the fact that the next day we can raise the wounded. And after two or three days, this patient can perform his immediate duties.

The solemn ceremony of welcoming the hospital ship of the Pacific Fleet "Irtysh", which returned after the successful completion of combat service tasks in the Mediterranean Sea, took place today, June 6, at berth 33 in Vladivostok. In four months, the crew of the floating hospital traveled 18,000 miles, visited five foreign ports, and provided medical assistance to the crews of ships and vessels in the port of Tartus of the Syrian Arab Republic. In addition, as corr. IA PrimaMedia Andrey Shesternin, head of the ship's hospital, For the first time in the Navy, an operation was performed using laparoscopic equipment on a hospital ship.

“Today we are meeting the crew of the Irtysh hospital ship, and together with the crew, all the medical staff, the pilots who provide the trip, as well as the marine guard platoon. The crew was assembled in seven days, and it passed two oceans with honor and completed the task in the Mediterranean Sea ", - began the solemn meeting, Deputy Commander of the Pacific Fleet for work with personnel, Rear Admiral Anatoly Zelinsky.

The commander of the ship reported to the commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Sergei Avakyants, that the ship had returned from a long voyage technically sound and ready, after replenishment of supplies, to carry out the tasks for its intended purpose. The Fleet Commander, on behalf of the Fleet Military Council, congratulated the crew on the successful completion of the assigned tasks. According to tradition, the crew was given a roast pig.

- The hospital ship "Irtysh" went to sea in January. The total passage was 131 days, covered 18 thousand miles, visited five foreign ports: Djibouti (Republic of Djibouti in northeast Africa), Tartus (Syrian Arab Republic), Limassol (Cyprus), Langkawi (Malaysia) and Cam Ranh (Vietnam). That is, through a small incision, an operation was performed inside the victim without incisions, - said Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the ship's hospital Andrey Shesternin.

In addition to experienced doctors, there were also young personnel on the ship who had recently graduated from a medical college.

- I was offered to go on the ship by my friends from the medical college. For four months, of course, a lot of impressions, it was scary, because this is my first hike. Here on the ship is not a hospital, everything is different. I managed to take part in operations: they cut out my appendicitis, I had an operation on my ears. In addition, there were infectious patients with jaundice, patients with colds. And when we were stationed in Syria, they came to us for a medical examination and treatment of teeth from other ships, - she shared her impressions Infectious Diseases Nurse Anna Lapina.
