Beginning of the skating season

Artificial ice rinks will open the winter season in Moscow parks. The skating rink in Gorky Park will be the first to open.

“On November 17, the season starts with the opening of the ice rink in Gorky Park, which symbolizes the beginning of a large winter program. On November 26, all the skating rinks that are planned will be opened,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Moscow Department of Culture.

On November 26, many parks will host concerts, ice shows, figure skating performances, figure skating master classes, hockey matches and light shows.

In winter, 45 skating rinks will operate in 30 Moscow parks: 24 of them with artificial ice and 21 with natural ice. In total, 107,000 square meters of ice will appear in the parks for skate lovers.

The largest artificial skating rink, with an area of 18,000 square meters, will operate in Gorky Park. According to the director of the park, Marina Lyulchuk, it will take 10-15 minutes on average to bypass it. An eight-meter-high ice fountain will be installed in the center of the rink, which will glow day and night. In addition, a 60-meter light tunnel will appear on the skating rink. By the beginning of the season, the illumination of the ice cover will be completely replaced, under which graffiti will be painted.

The skating rink in Sokolniki will occupy 5.4 thousand square meters. And with the onset of constant cold weather, skating rinks with natural ice will start working. The record holder among them will be the area for skiing on the alleys of Sokolniki - almost 7.4 thousand square meters.

All skating rinks will be equipped with skate rental and sharpening points, locker rooms and warm cafes, 12 figure skating schools will open (four of them will work for free) and seven hockey schools (five of them will be free).
