On all trips we travel with the whole family. The millionaire sold his property and went traveling with his family. To a new life - with the whole family

This is the story of a young family that has been traveling the world for the past 9 months. 25-year-old millionaire Garrett Gee and his 29-year-old wife Jessica did not enjoy their wealth sitting in one place, but took their children (3-year-old Dorothy and one-year-old Manilla) with them to see the world.

This perfect US family traveled to many parts of the Pacific Ocean and even managed to swim with sperm whales and watch leatherback turtles lay their eggs.

After Garrett sold the QR mobile app to Snapchat for $54 million last year, a couple from Utah put their millions in the bank and started living off the $45,000 they made from selling their property. Pictured is Jessica and Manilla in the Bahamas with a swimming pig.

In 2015, this wonderful family went on an adventure in various parts of the Pacific. In the picture, Garrett tosses 3-year-old Dorothy as the plane comes in to land over a beach in St. Maarten, Caribbean.

Garret Guy, his wife Jessica and their two children Dorothy and Manilla travel the world for nine months. In the picture they are on the beach on the island of Antigua.

The Bucket List Family - that's how they're known on Instagram - has over 93,000 followers.

The family has already visited Antigua, Tonga, Fiji, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand and many other places.

During the trip, the young family was able to swim with the sperm whale and watch the leatherback turtles lay their eggs in Dominica.

Initially, the family planned to rest for only 5 months, but 9 months have already passed and so far Garrett and Jessica do not even plan to complete such an exciting journey.

The couple, who got married in 2009, even posted an open invitation to friends and family to join them.

And although Garrett contracted the Zika virus from mosquitoes in Dominica, Jessica insists that the good during the trip outweighed the bad.

“Perhaps, above all, the greatest blessing of these travels is the unique amount of time we spend together as a family.”

Yulia, Kostya and their three-year-old daughter Malinka have been traveling since the child was seven months old. Today they share their experience on how to drive five thousand kilometers in a car with a small child.

Before the birth of a daughter Julia was engaged in staging wedding dances and organizing weddings. Now Julia organizes and decorates children's parties, arranges photo shoots and maintains a blog. Kostya works in IT. A Malinka"stimulates parents to contemplation and creativity." The family makes all trips together, because, as the parents themselves say, the company of a child is the best company, and "it's boring with adults."

WHY BY CAR?

The purpose of the trips of our heroes is not a photo with a child, so that later he can say: "I'm two here, and I'm in Paris." “This is something more than just pictures of beautiful places. Memories will remain with you, but do you need them without your little one? We don’t, ”says Yulia.

The beginning of active travel for Kostya coincided with the appearance of a child. He told us that before that, his vacation was mostly "hotel" and tourist. But Yulia loved to drive a car since childhood.

My parents are very active. They tried not to stay in one place, and we often went on trips, - says Yulia. - My grandparents lived in the Urals, and we often went to them - I always liked these trips. Dad could drive two and a half thousand kilometers in one fell swoop without changing with mom. In our family, only I drive, my husband and I are completely satisfied with this. I can't even imagine myself in the passenger seat!

When Yulia and Kostya's daughter was very young, they planned train trips. But just a couple of days before the departure, Malinka began to get sick: the guys handed in tickets and did not go anywhere. This is how the idea of traveling by car was born.

With a car, you can shift the schedule, leave two days later and at a convenient time. Stop on the road when you want: take a picture, “impress” and go on. And it's not as tedious as it might seem. When you fly by plane, you need to be at the airport two hours before departure, and at this time you need to do something with yourself and your child - you get more and more tired of waiting. During this time it was possible to drive two hundred kilometers! - Julia laughs. - Of course, it's great that the distance that you travel in two days, you will fly in two hours in the sky. But you won't see anything. It's a completely different experience!

Joint trips by car, according to Yulia, only unite: the trip has its own flavor, when everyone has their own responsibilities: mom is driving, dad is the navigator, daughter comes up with entertainment. The first time Malinka went to Estonia when she was 7 months old. The longest family trip took the guys three weeks, the shortest - three days. When they got bored this winter, they spontaneously left for the weekend, just to walk around the Christmas Tallinn.

On the way to winter Tallinn.

ON MY WAY

Kostya and Yulia made a table and fixed it on the seat in front of their daughter. And dad got an organizer: scissors, pencils, felt-tip pens, cutters, glue stick, origami materials and a bunch of books under the chair.

Table for daughter and organizer for dad.

At this age, you can entertain a child with one thing from half an hour to an hour. Up to a year you need a change of classes every 15 minutes. Moreover, it is desirable that they are completely different from each other, - says Kostya. - When all the books have already been read, the stickers are pasted, we can start singing songs or playing “find objects of a certain color or shape” games in the car or outside the window. Often games are invented on the go.

Dad does an excellent job with the role of mom, dad and navigator all rolled into one. She reads books wonderfully, sculpts from plasticine, tells fairy tales and stories. There is always a necessary kit for creativity at hand, - says Yulia.

When my daughter was breastfeeding, I had to make frequent stops to feed, lull, - says Yulia. - Now Malinka has grown up, we stop only because of “I want to go to my mother!”. We hugged, talked, warmed up and moved on. There were no nutritional issues. We always take fruit and baby purees with us. In any cafe there is pasta, porridge, a steam cutlet - something that a child can eat. In different cities, we often book apartments with a kitchen so that we can cook something ourselves.

In fact, with a child, it's easier than ever - the complexity is in the head, - says Kostya. - We have a lot of friends who travel with children. And also from a young age. There are some couples who got inspired and realized that this is possible.

On the road, Yulia has her own law: do not drive more than 200 km without stopping. Every two hours - a stop, every 500 km - an overnight stay. Perhaps when Malinka grows up, these distances will increase, but so far the family is counting on its strength in this way. After all, everyone gets tired on the road - and it doesn’t matter if you go by train or car.

THREE WEEKS, TEN COUNTRIES

Five and a half thousand kilometers in three weeks and “not at all a gallop across Europe”: five days in Croatia, four days in Italy and two in Austria. Our heroes planned this trip for three months: they booked hotels, thought over the route and picked up entertainment for Malinka in the car.

At first I wanted to go by car to Spain, - says Yulia. - Looked how many kilometers, and decided to choose something closer. We chose Italy. Why not Croatia? Kostya suggested. She's there, let's try!" - that's how it all started. When you're in a car, you look at the map and think: "Everything is so close!" And in fact, everything is close, but the main thing is not to overdo it in your desire to see everything. In this case, the impressions are blurred, and you don’t really notice anything.

Italy.

The route turned out like this: Poland (in transit) - Slovakia (in transit) - Hungary - Croatia - Bosnia and Herzegovina (we stopped by for a bite to eat) - Slovenia - Italy - Austria - Germany - Czech Republic (in transit).

In Budapest, we walked, lay on the grass, looked at the main sights. In Vienna, they really wanted to get into the House of Music, but it was closed these days. We'll have to go back there, - Julia laughs. “Sometimes you look at a map and plan a road, and then you change your plan just because you like the area off to the side.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU?

The most important thing is things for the child, "mom and dad don't need much." Think over games, take necessary and interesting books. Yulia and Kostya always take a lot of books, because they do not welcome games on tablets or cartoons on the road. In the car, they say, you can even take a potty, because the child is always more pleasant to sit on his "native" potty. Do not forget a snack on the road, a first aid kit and things for convenience: a cooler bag, a table for playing with a child, an organizer for small things, a navigator.

HOW TO PLAN?

In any country, our heroes try to see the main sights and be sure to be in nature. Park, lake, sea - all places are suitable nearby where you can relax and run barefoot. After all, it is very important for a small child to “reset” energy and breathe fresh air - just relax, collecting bouquets from improvised materials. Another obligatory fad is sights for the child.

In Tallinn, for example, we liked the children's museum. There you can draw, sculpt and build - try on different roles.

Museum in Tallinn.

Tallinn Zoo.

In the Gardaland amusement park in Italy, there was enough entertainment for everyone. Wonderful attractions for both children and adults. There are also some great spacious venues. In Warsaw, the very atmosphere in Chopin's house conquered - Malinka was delighted and listened to music with headphones with pleasure.

Italy, Gardaland.

It is important how you present the child with new cities and new experiences. If you do not say anything and do not explain, then there will be no memories left. We went to the playground, and a day later forgot about it. But if there my mother showed how to build a huge castle out of sand, it will become a memory. When you come to a new place, you explain why it is so, you can show exactly how it happens. The most important thing on a trip is to communicate with the child.

In Venice, we bought a mask and told our daughter about carnivals. She "lit up" in a mask and in a dress, twirled and danced. When you explain, it becomes fun for both you and the child.

Venice.

Fatigue is felt only on the way back, - says Kostya. - Apparently, due to the fact that the journey ends.

We ask the three-year-old Malinka:

What trip do you remember the most?

-Which one is the brightest?- we do not give up.

Athens is our last trip and the first trip by plane, Mom explains. The two girls flew there. Julia admitted that she did not have enough cars there. - My friend lives there, and we stayed with her. We flew from Athens to Santorini. There I could not resist and rented a car, because I realized that I would not see much on public transport. The machine makes it easy to move to the right place at any time.

ROADS

The most frightening moment in traveling by car is the quality of the roads. Sometimes you read such horrors on the forums that you think: “How can I get through this?” In fact, nothing terrible has happened to us so far.

When we went to Slovakia, the autobahn was not yet completed, the roads there are bad. But on the roads of Croatia it is good to go. There are toll roads everywhere in Europe, but they are really worth the money. The tunnel in the mountain is almost 6 kilometers long - for me it was a delight, - says Yulia. - How could people build it! And Malinka was pleased. Driving through them, we sang songs about the tunnels, composed on the go.

Yulia and Kostya say that after exiting the autobahn in Croatia, they had to drive along winding mountain roads, which Croatians themselves drive fast.

When you get used to going straight all the time, it's hard to change lanes. When I returned home, I realized how easy it is to drive on Belarusian roads, - Yulia laughs.

CHILDREN'S WHIM

All children, like adults, are out of sorts, but every whim has its own reason. If the child is tired, then we stop, go out and walk. You need to understand the reasons for whims, - says Yulia. - Sometimes just hugs are enough to calm an upset little man, and sometimes you have to change plans: for example, to replace an excursion with a trip to the park - after all, an oversaturated program often tires children.

Changing activities is very important. It is necessary to build routes so that parents can see what they want, but at the same time the child can play. Turn on the fantasy, and the child will not be bored. Walking in the park - imagine that this is a magical park. The new city is a huge princess castle. The main thing is to support the child's imagination and fantasize yourself. If you were told: “Aaah, this is the best magic wand in the world!”, You should not say: “Ay, calm down and throw away this dirty stick.” So the child will definitely get bored and whims will begin. Everyone's desire is worthy of attention. If dad wants to eat, then it's time to have a picnic, if the child saw something interesting and wants to play, it's time to play.

If you are determined to see a lot, visit many museums, want silence, then you should not take your child with you. And the child will benefit more from our honesty than from tortured and tired parents.

DISEASES

Our heroes always take a first-aid kit with them, but it has never come in handy for them. “There is no opportunity and time to get sick,” Yulia laughs. “Fresh air heals best.” The guys say that one has only to come to the sea, snot, if any, immediately disappears.

It all depends on how reverently we begin to treat the draft. When you remove your fears, nothing terrible happens, says Kostya.

PLANS FOR NEXT TRIPS

Now we are studying Belarus and deciding where to go with a child. Asian countries are not very attractive to us yet, although someday you can try to go there for the winter. And in the summer, Europe, which has not yet been fully explored, attracts more.

Nowadays, there are often families with two or more children. At every step, they talk about the importance of improving the demographic situation, but in practice large families face various challenges not only at home, but also during the holidays.

Oddly enough, family vacation offers are often designed only for standard mom-dad-child families. There is a way out: the Sutochno.ru portal will be happy to tell you how to save money if you love to travel with your whole huge family.

1. Save on the road

Are you afraid of the road and transport costs? Believe me, you can and should save money on the road! For example, you can go on holiday by car. Even with soaring gas prices, there is no doubt that a family car trip will cost significantly less than a flight. You should not evaluate a trip by mileage - the most important thing is the impression. For example, you can drive 2-3 hours a day, and the rest of the time enjoy the views around, going on a tour of historical places, sunbathing on the beach or just fishing with the children. Find out where to go fishing in Russia.

Of course, not all corners of the world can be reached by car, but you can see a lot, stop at any time, enjoy the scenery and feel the taste of freedom. A good alternative to a car is a regular train. In Europe and Russia, rail carriers provide discounts for children under 5-7 years old. If you are a fundamental fan of air travel, then visit aggregator sites more often, where all the news about discounts on air tickets are collected.

2. Choose accommodation suitable for a large family

You understand that it will not be possible to comfortably accommodate a family of 5-6 people in a standard hotel room. At the same time, booking several adjacent rooms will be very expensive. We advise you to look for a spacious guest house or even if you only need a couple of overnight stays. Yes, but have you forgotten about the opportunity to save on food in canteens or cafes? In private housing there is always an equipped kitchen, on which it is easy to cook any dish - from oatmeal for breakfast to hearty borscht for lunch. And the children are full, and the saved banknotes crunch pleasantly in the wallet.

3. Spend more time outdoors

Traveling and saving is a reality when it comes to camping or visiting national parks. with tents on the banks of the Volga or any other large river (fortunately, we have enough of them) - this is a real adventure for adults and children. And if you are traveling abroad, think about overnight in some national park. It's inexpensive as staying in the park at night is not charged per person, but depending on how big your car is. By the way, a similar holiday is possible here, for example, in Karelia.

4. Buy family tickets and passes to parks and museums

In parks, zoos and children's museums abroad you can buy seasonal family passes or even annual tickets. If your family has more than 4 people, it will be profitable for you to buy just such tickets. Pay attention to all sorts of promotions in the places where you go: in some museums there are, for example, free days and it's a sin not to use it. By the way, such promotions have recently been held in Russian museums - look for information about discounts on the official websites of cultural institutions.

5. Travel during the off-season

The off-season is the time when there are still few or already few tourists. For example, if you want to get a big family in Russia and save money, go there late November - early December, also considered off-season beginning of April. But if your goal is a beach holiday, then it's better to go in May or September. For example, housing in the private sector in Sochi becomes noticeably more affordable with the beginning of autumn.

Listen to our advice, and then your big family will definitely have a great rest!

This should have happened sometime!

Finally, a real “Traveller Club” is opening on my blog, where not only me, but also my readers and friends will have the right to vote.

The most interesting heroes will share their fascinating stories from their travels, useful tips and travel life hacks.

Meet - the first guests of my travel blog - my longtime friends - the unique Sobolev family - Olga and Alexander, traveling the world with five children at once!

Independent travelers traveling around cities and countries alone or in pairs (well, in extreme cases, with one child - full), but large families - travelers, I think, can be counted on the fingers. Do you know more of these?

So, I guess this is not my last interview with them. Ask your questions about traveling with a child in the comments, I will take them as the basis for the next post.

In the meantime, the mother of this large family, Olga Soboleva, answers my questions.

Me: Olya, tell us about your family. Where have you already been, how do you like to travel and how did you dare to travel abroad with your children?

O.S .: Our family is Sasha and me and children - Alina (12 years old), Artemy (9 years old), Misha (6 years old), Alexey (3.5 years old) and the youngest - Makar, who is only six months old .

We traveled even before the appearance of children, so when our family began to grow, we were not going to forever refuse to travel, put an end to them and lock ourselves in four walls.

With our first child, our daughter Alina, when we didn’t have much parental experience, we played it safe, and, as pediatricians recommend, we stayed at home for up to three years. But it turned out to be very difficult to live for a long time without traveling, therefore, as soon as the second son Artemy was 10 months old, we went to a seaside resort in Spain. Relax.

Since then, we have been actively traveling. Now I can say for sure that it is easiest to travel with babies, no problems with what to do with him, what to feed him, how to calm him down. Everything you need, everything is with you. And children under 2 years old do not even need to buy a ticket. 8)

But when you travel often, traveling is no longer too stressful (mainly for us adults). Everything has already been more or less worked out, what to take with you and what you can buy on the spot, how to pack your suitcase as compactly as possible, how to plan your vacation so that it would be interesting for us and the children would not get bored.

Me: Olya, please advise readers who want to go on vacation with a child - which countries are preferable for families with children. Are trips to exotic countries dangerous, like Thailand?

O.S.: Basically, of course, as a family, we go to rest on the sea, because. the maritime climate, especially during the cold season, is very beneficial for children. We visited Spain and Turkey, of course, we also travel around Russia, every summer we have a rest on Lake Baikal (we have a dacha there), which is probably why we won’t be going to other Russian resorts, it’s not worse here in Baikal in summer. Now we really want to go with the whole family to Georgia.

But in winter, we all love to change the situation and wait out the harsh Siberian frosts - both adults and children. So in winter, most often we have a rest in Thailand, because. it is easiest to get there from Irkutsk, there are direct flights, the time almost coincides and there are very high quality vegetables and fruits. If our younger children have diathesis at home, then in Thailand they immediately disappear. This is because the products in Thailand are natural, not stuffed with Chinese vegetable growers, you don’t understand how they sell here.

We travel with children to Thailand every winter for wintering, we traveled almost all of it. We visited Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samet, Koh Samui, Koh Chang, Chiang Mai, Koh Lan, Phi Phi, Hua Hin, Krabi. With a travel agency, such trips would cost incredible money, so we organize all our trips on our own.

On our trips with children, as far as possible, we try to get out a couple of times a year. It is desirable, of course, to go to the seas with a child not for a week, but at least for a month. Although acclimatization is quite simple for children, too frequent climate changes are not very useful for anyone. Particularly dangerous in terms of colds are periods when you return home with a child from a hot climate, in the cold. So at this time you need to be more attentive to them - do not overcool, do not go to crowded places as far as possible.

In order to keep up with the school curriculum, we try to capture the school holidays as much as possible and the period when schools are closed for quarantine due to flu epidemics. But all the same, of course, with older children you have to do lessons on vacation.

Me: What were your most memorable trips, or maybe extreme vacations?

O.S .: Our main extreme tourist “feat” was when we all with four children (and I myself was pregnant with the fifth), traveling around Thailand, changed 10 hotels in 19 days.

Our other non-standard trip happened the day before, when Sasha, along with three older children, went to travel around Thailand alone by car (at that time I was left at home alone with a baby).

Few dads even dare to go abroad with a child alone, and our Sasha went there with three at once. At the same time, they flew connecting flights through Hong Kong and did not just check into a hotel by the sea, but went on a real independent trip by car.

In a few weeks, they drove through several cities and Thai villages in the jungle, which are not even on tourist maps, barely escaped from the flood, fought off a flock of wild monkeys. In general, the story of our trips is worthy of a separate interview.

Me: I see 8) Let's talk about it for sure.

Then, let's reduce our today's conversation to preparing for a trip with children, tell us how difficult it is, what is mandatory and what is not. In general, with what the preparation of your trip usually begins.

OS: Like any trip, our vacation with children begins with the purchase of tickets. A month and a half before the desired vacation dates, we begin to monitor sites and look for the cheapest tickets. Our "record" in this regard is an Irkutsk-Bangkok ticket for 7,000 rubles per adult and 4,000 per child.

We arrive in Thailand, rent a car and just live in another country. We travel from one city to another, somewhere we stay longer, somewhere a day or two is enough to understand that we want to go further.

So I advise novice travelers with children not to be afraid of anything and be sure to travel with children. After all, this is not some kind of meaningless entertainment, but an opportunity to expand the horizons of a child, to show him another world, other people, another life. Isn't it great to learn geography not from contour maps, but in real life?

Brief information about yourself and the city in which you live (or where you went on trips and want to tell about them) send me an email [email protected] _site (no spaces). And maybe you will be the next hero of this section. 8)
