Kingdom Tower is the tallest skyscraper in the world. Five kilometer skyscrapers that are already under construction or planned Azerbaijan Tower. Azerbaijan

Not far from Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), construction has begun on the tallest skyscraper in the world - the "Kingdom Tower", the height of which, according to the project, should exceed 1 km.

At the moment, the tallest existing building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the height of this giant skyscraper is 828 m. The height of the Kingdom Tower will have to be 1,007 meters, which is 179 more than the height of the Burj Khalifa.

Construction of the Kingdom Tower skyscraper began in May this year, 32 km north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Around the building there will be a small city where up to 80 thousand residents can live and which will consist mainly of luxury housing, hotels and business centers.

The project developer is the British company Hyder Consulting, and the architectural design will be carried out by Omrania & Associates from Saudi Arabia. You can already admire the photographs of the still “virtual” building and appreciate the scale of the project.

In April 2011, news agencies announced that the construction plan had been adopted and the total cost of the structure would be about $30 billion, although the amount initially planned was no more than $10 billion. For comparison, the cost of building the tallest skyscraper at the moment, the Burj Khalifa, is $1.5 billion USA.

Although the shape of the building resembles an igloo, which becomes thinner towards the top, the architects decided to add a small element - a round observation deck. Let's just hope that at such a height the wind won't be able to blow anyone away from this site.

At the construction site allocated for the construction of Kingdom Tower, until today there were only giant foundation piles driven into the sand to a depth of 100 meters. And until this moment, it was unclear whether full-scale construction of this colossal structure would begin or whether its creators would abandon their ambitious undertaking.

According to the British news portal BD Online, the project is back on track. Investors have finally forked over and invested the required $1.2 billion in construction, and construction itself will begin on April 27, 2014. The British company EC Harris and Mace was appointed to manage the construction and is ready to begin fulfilling the terms of the contract. In 2012, this construction company erected The Shard skyscraper in London, 306 meters high.

There are still a lot of open questions regarding the Kingdom Tower. For example, how living at an altitude of 1007 meters can affect the human body. Or how to implement an elevator system inside a skyscraper, if existing models provide a cable length of no more than 500-600 meters, since they simply cannot withstand a longer length due to their enormous weight.

All these, as well as many other problems, will have to be solved by the engineers of the British company in the very near future. And we can only watch the progress of construction and wait for the final results.

Dubai, the capital of the UAE, the world champion of the largest and most expensive buildings, will soon have a rival. And it will be a city in Saudi Arabia.

The world's tallest tower, Burj Khalifa, located in Dubai, may soon lose its Guinness World Records title. This is possible if Saudi Arabia successfully implements its project to build an even larger building. This will require $1.23 billion.

Plans and undertakings

At the end of November, the Saudi Arabian government announced that companies such as Jeddah Economic Company and Saudi Arabia's Alinma Investment had signed a financial deal worth 8.4 billion Saudi reals ($2.2 billion), formalizing their plans to build in in the city of Jeddah the tallest tower in the world, called the Royal Tower.

The building is currently built up to the 26th floor, but its total height will be one kilometer. The skyscraper is planned to be completed by 2020. In contrast to this project, the Burj Khalifa reaches "only" 827 meters.

With this deal, the government plans to achieve unprecedented real estate development and also create a world-class urban center that will offer a cutting-edge lifestyle. The city will receive a new attraction that will attract tourists from all walks of life with its comprehensive services.

Architectural breakthrough

Called the Royal Tower, the building will have 200 floors. It will have views of the Red Sea. To construct a building of this scale would require 5.7 million square feet of concrete and 80,000 tons of steel, according to Saudi Arabian publications.

Building such a tall building on the coast, where it can be damaged by sea water, is no small feat. The foundation, which is 60 meters deep, will have to withstand the influence of salt water from the nearby sea. Therefore, careful testing of the strength of different types of concrete is carried out.

Wind loading is another hazard for a building of this size. To combat this problem, the tower will have to constantly change its shape. Since this will happen every few floors, gusts of wind will go around the skyscraper on both sides, so the load will not be as dangerous.

Another problem may be the delivery of concrete to the upper floors. Perhaps the engineers could use the same technologies used to create the Burja Kharifa tower. Then 6 million cubic meters of concrete were pumped upward using a simple pump. Typically, this was done at night, when the temperature was low enough to prevent the successful delivery and installation of materials.

Project prospects

Despite the complexity and ambition of the project, it has every chance of successful completion, according to the council's director of tall buildings. He claims that at the moment they can build a tower one kilometer high. It is possible that a two-kilometer building can also be done by engineers. For structures whose height will exceed two kilometers, it will be necessary to carry out a lot of preliminary work.

The world's tallest skyscraper is under construction April 18th, 2013

A couple of years ago, the Internet wrote about two projects of kilometer-long skyscrapers - the Nakheel tower in Dubai and the Mubarak al Kabir tower in Kuwait. However, the Dubai project was canceled due to the crisis of the Nakheel group, and the Kuwait project was stuck at the stage of approvals with the government.

However, a kilometer-high building will be erected on our planet in the near future. Back in 2011, it became known that Kingdom Holding, owned by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, signed a contract for the construction of the Kingdom Tower skyscraper in Saudi Arabia, the height of which will exceed 1000 meters.

The tallest skyscraper in the world - Kingdom Tower will rise more than 1 km. over the city of Jeddah, off the coast of the Red Sea. The tower will include hotels, residential apartments, offices and the world's highest observation deck. Adrian Smith was appointed as the chief architect of the project; he also designed the Burj Khalifa, as well as a number of other skyscrapers in the USA, China and the UAE (see his website). Amount Prisoner Kingdom Holding The contract is valued at $1.2 billion. Kingdom Tower will be the central and first stage of construction of the area Kingdom City, in the construction of which the Saudi prince is ready to invest a total of $20 billion.

Upon completion of construction, which will take 5 years, Kingdom Tower will surpass the Burj Khalifa, the current record holder, by at least 173 meters. Unique design feature Kingdom Tower There will be a sky terrace with a diameter of 30 meters, located at the 157th floor. In total, the tallest skyscraper in the world will have more than 200 floors. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2012.

It is known that the main problem of such grandiose projects is their payback. At a press conference in Riyadh Prince Alwaleed assured that “this project will provide sustainable profits Kingdom Holding and its shareholders. We have been in discussions for four years to make it economically viable... This project is very feasible, and everyone is happy with its potential profitability.”

From the top of the tower, an area within a radius of about 140 km will be visible. It is assumed that the satellite city will consist mainly of luxury housing, hotels and business centers.

The architectural highlight will be a saucer balcony:

Regardless of which country this building is erected, the construction of an anthropogenic structure, more than 1 kilometer in height, is an important achievement, indicating considerable technical progress of all mankind.

Data project as well will be carried out by a joint organization from the companies EC Harris and Mace. The Guardian newspaper reports that it was this team that was involved in the construction of the tallest building in Western Europe - The Shard. This is the Shard Tower in London.

Directly ourselves construction will be handled by the Bin Laden Group, which is owned by the Osama bin Laden family. Invest construction of Kingdom Tower there will be a company called Jeddah Economic, which is controlled by Al Waleed bin Talal (Prince of Saudi Arabia). According to plan construction of the Kingdom Tower skyscraper should begin in the middle of this year and end in five years.

The project developer is the British company Hyder Consulting, and the architectural design will be carried out by Omrania & Associates from Saudi Arabia.

In April 2011, several news outlets reported that the construction plan had been accepted and the total cost of the structure would be about $30 billion.

The total cost of the project, including the satellite city, is expected to be US$20 billion (for comparison, the cost of constructing the tallest skyscraper at the moment, the Burj Khalifa, is US$1.5 billion), but the initial target was no more than US$10 billion.
