Hi all! If you are reading this, then you are wondering if it is worth going to Bulgaria in general and Golden Sands in particular. I think that after reading you will make the right choice.
So, the end of August 2009. Rest is urgently needed, preferably 7-8 days, and always at sea - so my wife and I decided and began to study the options. Omitting all the details of the choice, we settled on the following: Bulgaria, Golden Sands, Excelsior 3 * hotel (Primasol hotel chain), 7 days from September 04, all inclusive. The only negative is that there are practically no reviews about this hotel, and those that are are not unambiguous. Well, okay, in 3 days we received visas, took the child (6 years old) from the dacha and flew off.
Flight - no problem, the meeting party "VASSY" as expected, met, took to the hotel and left the phone for communication. It took 30-40 minutes from Varna Airport to Golden Sands. The hotel quickly issued, and although the lunch time ended in 5 minutes, we were fed calmly and tasty and the rest began.
The sea, as written in the description of the hotel, is really not close, but it did not bother, because. A 500 meter walk never hurts. The path to the sea lies past hotels, shops, restaurants, stalls and takes about 10 minutes. There is also a shorter road, just behind the Sunrise Hotel (second photo), turn left and go down the stairs. This cuts down 200 meters of the path. Well, here is the sea! The beach is sandy, large, but there are enough people on it (opposite the main entrance, next to the Ferris wheel, photo6). There are sunbeds, and as soon as you start to settle down on them, a man runs up and starts demanding a fee - 1 sunbed = 7 leva (1 lev = about 0.5 euros). Not weak!!! In the future, we walked to the left of the main entrance to the beach, there are fewer people, and settled down on towels. We saw for sale "mats" of various sizes, on which many vacationers sunbathe. The weather for the first two days was good and we went swimming twice a day. But on the third day the weather turned bad and we went to the pool. In Sunrise (a hotel from the same Primasol chain), on the contrary, there are several pools (one indoor, heated), and in our hotel there is one, in the open air, so we immediately went to Sunrise. We decided to start with outdoor pools, they are located at different levels and have different depths. Nearby are sun loungers, tables, umbrellas - everything is as it should be. At the top pool - a bar.
About the Excelsior Hotel. Clean, comfortable, the room is cleaned every day and changed towels and bed linen. Meals 3 times a day, the choice of dishes is normal. From 11 am, a bar opens on the ground floor, there is a standard set of alcohol (only the lack of whiskey was a little surprised). The staff, with the exception of one girl at the reception, understands Russian quite well. Vacationers are mainly from Germany, Romania and Russia. We met a nice couple from E-burg and a cheerful guy from Novosib.
The good impression ended on the night of the third day. The child was ill all night, very similar to poisoning. I think that the point is in the water, sea or pool (I don’t sin on food, because I and my wife ate the same thing). Almost the whole next day the child did not eat anything, he only drank tea and refused to take pills. Because and the next day there was no improvement, we decided at 6 am to call the doctor through the insurance company (ROSNO). As for evil, at the reception there was a "complete Bulgarian" and did not understand a word of Russian. It was impossible to get through to the insurance company, they contacted the representative of "VASSY", she promised to quickly find a doctor. At 11 o'clock a man called, introduced himself as the director of the medical center, asked about the symptoms of the disease, said that most likely it was an intestinal infection and I needed to go to the hospital URGENTLY. An hour later, he picked us up, brought us to his center, from there we contacted ROSNO and received their consent to be hospitalized. Then we were taken to a hospital in Varna, they took tests from our son and put us in the infectious diseases department (along with my mother). No one is fed at the department, so I brought food to them myself, since there is a supermarket nearby. I also bought a couple of SIM cards from a local telecom operator there. roaming is not cheap, and it was necessary to communicate often. For 2.5 days, the wife and son lay there, the son was put on drips. The PSP I took on the trip and the presence of a TV (paid) in the ward helped a lot. But during this time I talked to the locals a lot and studied the Varna-Golden Sands route in detail. In general, the impression of communication is good.
In the evening, on the eve of the flight back to St. Petersburg, I took my people from the hospital to the hotel. We walked a little, sat for an hour in a restaurant ... we no longer wanted to go to the sea. Representatives of "VASSY" arrived in the morning, and I thought that the adventure was over.
But at the airport of Varna, on that very day, a lot of planes flew to different countries, and the check-in area is small. In short, crowded with people from 4-5 flights in a room designed for 2-3 flights. Heat, stuffiness, full of "pi ......". After registration, we finally got into a normal room, and through the "dutik" - into the plane. As a result, the departure was delayed by 1 hour. The commander of our Boeing apologized for all the inconvenience, although he was the least to blame for this. All. A curtain.
Although no, on arrival they took the child to the clinic, they did tests - and again to the infectious diseases hospital, it’s good at least to ours. SUCH infections, speak, for 4 days do not pass or take place. 5 more days of treatment and discharge. It must be said that the infection was specific, tk. day of communication between the child and the grandmother after arrival, and she also leaves "by ambulance" to the infectious diseases hospital. Now that's all for sure. Thank God - everything went well for everyone.
Finally, a little in prices in Bulgaria.
The bus from Golden Sands to Varna is 3 levs (free for children), a taxi is 18-20 levs, but you can also pay 5-10 levs if he is on his way or he takes someone else besides you. Once I managed to get there for 4 leva, two tourists from Poland were traveling along the way. It's funny, the Poles stubbornly did not understand the taxi driver, they tried to communicate with him in English, and he was either in Bulgarian or Russian. Barely agreed.
It is better to buy water in bottles of at least 2 liters, so it turns out much cheaper. Food - about the same money as ours. In Varna you can eat for 10-15 levs, in Golden Sands - at least 25-30 levs for the same dishes, the resort after all. Toys and clothes are also at the level of our prices.
Tip: if you are going to Bulgaria, it is better to go at the beginning or middle of summer. In September, there is a high probability of rain (although "VASSY" said that this is only this year...) Well, probably look for a 4* or 5* hotel.
We are going to Egypt next year! Last year we were there for 14 days, and everything was very wonderful, but this is a separate review.

I came to Lido di Jesolo for the first time. The flight from Moscow was late, so I ended up at the hotel late at night. I immediately noticed that outwardly the hotel compares favorably with neighboring ones, a small building, tastefully decorated and the only one from nearby with beautiful green territory. Everything is compact and well thought out. In the future, I was also surprised by the fact that with a 100% occupancy of the hotel in our period, there was no feeling of tightness and crowding either on the beach or in the restaurant. The resettlement went quickly and imperceptibly, I had a room with a balcony and a side sea view. The room has a large LCD TV and 2 Russian channels 1 and Russia, and the quality of the picture is like at home. Two separate beds are pushed together, in my opinion very comfortable, with snow-white linen and a large sofa. I didn’t try to lay out the sofa, but if I put it out, I think that there will be no passage at all, the room is not big. Plenty of storage space, a large closet with a safe and plenty of hangers inside. The bathroom has two sinks, a bidet, a bathtub, everything is shiny, very clean. There was a set of towels, slippers, a standard set of bubbles (I can’t say about the quality, I didn’t use it), the hair dryer is very weak, for whom it’s important to take your own. On a small balcony there is plastic furniture. Towels and a bathing suit I dried without problems by hanging on the railing. There is a minibar, I used it as a refrigerator, but there is no kettle and cups, only glasses. There are a lot of sockets in the room, but adapters are required, which Natalya gave me at the reception in the morning. She speaks excellent Russian and is downstairs from 9.30-13.00 and from 16.00-20.30. You can contact her for any question, always polite, attentive. From her I learned about the city, when and what works, about transport, orders, etc. I do not speak English well, for me the presence of a person who willingly and kindly answers my endless questions turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I paid for breakfast and dinner. Everything is delicious and plentiful. For dinner, three or four hot dishes from the chef are required. Every day different, for a week never repeated. Very tasty grilled fish, tender meat, pasta with different sauces, lasagna, shrimp. Large selection of fruits, desserts, great cakes, ice cream. Total and do not list. I can say with confidence that the cook in the hotel is top class. I didn't regret paying for the dinner. I visited local restaurants for lunch. The hotel is located, in my opinion, in the most convenient location. Everything is nearby, the main street, bars and restaurants, shops and parks. At the same time, the noise is not heard at all, although the balcony was always open at night. The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool, it is automatically heated to 26 degrees. Next to the pool bar, it opens at 10.30, just as breakfast ends. There is excellent coffee, all kinds of drinks, and at lunch you can order a snack. It is not necessary to carry money to pay, it is enough to say the number. You can pay when leaving the hotel. Everything is clear on the checks, I was not deceived (although there were registrations in other hotels). Well, now about the beach. The hotel goes directly to the beach. Sun beds are free, hotel and there are a lot of them. In general, I repeat, there was no crowding anywhere. The sea with a smooth entry, sand, for children is the most it. You can rent catamarans. Bananas, parachutes and scooters were not observed. The sea is clean, but when it was a little stormy it became unclear due to the sand. I think this is a great hotel for everyone. It will be equally good for pensioners, young people, and families with children. Well-selected staff. Everything for tourists, regardless of citizenship. Highly recommend and will definitely return myself.…

First, they gave me a room on a low floor with a balcony directly above the kitchen or utility rooms where the staff walked. After a surcharge, we got a room with a sea view on the sixth floor.

Great food, clean everywhere, nice pool, always and everywhere there is free space, both in the bar and in the dining room. There is a shuttle to the sea and back every hour. Funny animators. The audience is quite good.

Far from the beach. I did not use the free minibus from the hotel to the beach, it is always crowded. The shortest route is 10 minutes: leaving the hotel to the left - to the crossroads, to the right, to the pedestrian crossing, through it and a long way down the stairs. In the hotel during the cleaning they stole a stack of coins, 6 lv. The banknotes were not touched. As you understand, I don’t feel sorry for the money, but the fact that they robbed me at my house is simply disgusting. Be careful, remove money, documents and valuables. There are only three sockets in the room: one for the refrigerator, the second for the TV, and only the third for you.

The hotel is really good The room, after tiny Amsterdam, seemed huge to me. Everything is clean, everything is there. The food is tasty, plentiful and varied. Bar, wifi in the lobby.

During lunch / dinner it is sometimes difficult to find a place at a table, can you squeeze more tables somewhere? :)

Excellent hotel, delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Friendly staff. My room was with a sea view (although not the first line, but still very nice). The pool is clean and good for kids. Upon arrival (which is from 14:00) remember that lunch only lasts until 14:30! So you can make it if you hurry.

Paid wifi in the rooms - a day of internet costs about 7 euros! (it is free in the lobby) The euro exchange rate at the hotel is better to change elsewhere.

At first, the distance from the beach is a little shocking - about 10-15 minutes on foot, it's not even the second or third line, but then you realize that this is rather a plus - especially if you came for a relaxing holiday. Discos at such a distance are practically inaudible, crowds of tourists do not go past, and it is quite quiet at night. A free shuttle runs to the beach and back every hour. I recommend paying extra 5 euros per night for the view, the windows of the upper floors overlook the trees and the beautiful panorama of the sea. The number of rooms is not new, but the rooms themselves are spacious, large and comfortable beds, good linens and towels. The food is on the level, everything is enough for everyone, the staff is doing a great job. There is an open kitchen - omelettes, bacon, pancakes are fried in the morning, meat, flatbread, vegetables are cooked for lunch and dinner. Nice pool, plenty of sunbeds and a bar. The hotel rests mainly tourists from Germany and England, active students and no less active pensioners - so it will not be boring. Nearby there is a large non-stop supermarket and bus stop 409.

I found two minuses, they are invisible in life, but I hope they will be important for the hotel to improve the rating and quality: 1) It would be good to monitor the bathroom more carefully: we asked to hold our things at the reception for one hour to go to the sea - they refused us, arguing that we were checking out (although for many hotels, an extract is not a big excuse for refusing to accompany customers until the full departure, especially in all inclusive). A small minus, as I understand the official arguments of the hotel, but still, in order to increase the level of hospitality and a warm welcome, I advise you not to refuse elementary things.

Friendly staff, helped us a lot in a difficult situation - thank you very much. A very tasty buffet (it was clear that the chef was watching the chefs very closely - he personally checked all the dishes in the restaurant) - yes, not Turkey, but what a traveler needs is a full stomach, the sea, beautiful landscapes of the city and wine at dinner. The room has no frills - basic to rest, but has air conditioning, hair dryer and refrigerator. There is no safe in the room, but they were not afraid of things, at least there are a lot of Germans in the hotel - I'm sure that the staff treats their guests very responsibly. Some people may say that it is far from the sea, but in fact there is a short way up the stairs through the Admiral Hotel: 5-7 minutes at a brisk pace and you are on the beach. There is a fast lift. Swimming pool and kind, funny animators. This hotel will definitely please its visitors with price and quality.

Tourists who have chosen Excelsior 4 will remember Bulgaria and their vacation as a bright and cheerful holiday. A considerable merit in this hotel workers, professionals in their field. Now almost every convenient patch of sand is occupied by umbrellas and sun loungers (8 leva is rented for the whole day), but if you find a free patch, you can sit on your own towel. In addition to the beach, tourists are invited to make exciting excursions to Varna, Burgas (36 km from the hotel) and the old part of Nessebar, lying on a small peninsula.
