Lake Jack London/Lake Jack London

He was fond of the work of Jack London and the geologist liked the beautiful northern lake very much. This is how the name of the lake, unusual for a Russian person, appeared.

What do Jack London's books mean to you? Isn't it a synonym for craving for knowledge of the world, the first fire and spending the night in a damp tent with friends? Or maybe with this author came an understanding of deeper issues, such as courage, courage and true friendship? For many, this is more than just adventure literature, and it is possible that London's books have served or will serve as one of the building blocks of a strong-willed and adventure-hungry person. Perhaps that is why in the first half of the 20th century an incredibly beautiful lake in one very strange place was named after Jack London.

Jack London lake- the most romantic place in the upper reaches of the Kolyma. It lies in the middle of a beautiful mountain country, framed by jagged saws of a severe ridge. Ten-kilometer lake Jack London spilled in the upper reaches of the Kolyma River at an altitude of 800 meters above the level of the nearest Sea of Okhotsk. By the way, about the sea: very often you can hear how this mighty lake and the surrounding beauties are compared with the fjords of Norway. The reason for this is the narrow, elongated shape of the reservoir, enclosed in the ring of the Bolshoi Annagachak and Ouaz-Ina ridges surrounding it. The word north is also more suitable for local forests and other vegetation than east. In addition to the handsome grayling that lives in the lake, you can meet many interesting animals in the local forests - wolves, wolverines, bears and even wild reindeer. In a word, everyone who is ready for a harsh climate and the absence of people.

As for people, the nearest settlement to Lake Jack London is the village of Yagodnoye, from which, depending on the time of year and the chosen path, you will have to get to the sights 40-60 kilometers on foot or by car. Also on the lake itself there are several guest houses and recreation centers. There is a weather station on one of the four islands. If you are already plotting a route on the map and packing swimming trunks in a backpack, remember that in these parts, even in July, the temperature rarely rises above 15 degrees, and in June and August you will inevitably find frosts. However, in the daytime in the summer it may well be up to +30.

Appreciate the nature of your native country, and do not be embarrassed by the fact that these remote and incredibly beautiful expanses were once used as places for serving sentences.
