Story

The first mention of this city begins in the 2nd century BC, when it was founded by the Greeks. For many years it served as a transit base for pirates who healed their wounds and had fun between raids. Then it was called Karakession and Kalonoros. In 67 BC the city was freed from smugglers and presented by Mark Antony to Cleopatra. It was attached to Byzantium and was used to harvest logs for ships (because there are a lot of forests here).

The next thousand years history knew both ups and downs. By the 7th century, due to frequent wars with the Arabs, came to an economic decline. In the 13th century, the city was captured by the Seljuks and renamed Alaiye. It was then that the Red Tower was built - one of the main attractions that have survived to this day.

In 1571, the city passed to the Ottomans and became the winter residence of Sultan Selim II. It was a major military and commercial port.

In 1871 it became the administrative region of Antalya. In 1933 it received its modern name.

Since the 50s of the last century, a tourist boom has begun among the Turks. They came here to improve their health with the healing air of the Damalatash cave. Then came the foreign tourists. Currently, the resort is visited annually by more than 100 thousand people.

Alanya – Cleopatra Beach

Russian tourists still prefer to choose the famous resorts of the Turkish Riviera in the summer, known for their excellent conditions for recreation. Among them Alanya- the city, famous for its sandy beaches, plays an important role. After all, here on a tiny territory of the coast, tourists find everything they need to remember the days of their luxurious vacation for a long time. And local beaches are often compared with the famous French Riviera. The main local beach, named by the inhabitants in honor of the famous Queen of Egypt, surprises vacationers with the unusual properties of the local sand. It is believed that he was brought here for Cleopatra - the name of this place is associated with her name.

To the amazement of travelers, the sand on this beach never gets so hot that tourists, as is usually the case, simply cannot take their favorite sunbathing. The secret is explained by the special composition of the sand, in which there is practically no dust. Sea waters in these places are transparent and clean. Similar sandy beaches are found only on the North African coast. But the uniqueness of this place does not at all lead to an unpleasant increase in the cost of accommodation in hotels. On the contrary, the prices here are quite acceptable and reasonable.

Hotel base Konakli it contributes to an inexpensive vacation, because mainly inexpensive hotels are located here, and in relation to the Konakli beach it is slightly inferior to Avsallar, since here the sand is mixed with pebbles. Travelers do not have to deal with choosing a beach in a wonderful Alanya and its surroundings. Here, anywhere on the coast, regardless of whether it is sandy or pebbly, favorable conditions are always preserved for a rich and healthy holiday.

The Mediterranean Sea is the largest sea in the world in terms of area. The magnificent nature and mild climate on its beaches make the rest here unforgettable. In terms of salinity, this sea is in third place after the Dead and Red Seas.

The Mediterranean Sea is located on a very advantageous place on the planet, so its shores are quite densely populated. What sights of Alanya did you like? There are icons next to the photo, by clicking on which you can rate a particular place.

Cleopatra beach

Cleopatra Beach - one of the most romantic beaches in the world, located on the island of Sedir. Once he became a gift to Cleopatra from Mark Antony, who was passionately in love with her. The sand covering the coast of the island is also not simple - it is believed that it was brought specifically for the queen, as a gift from the crowned husband, the sand does not cause burns, practically does not heat up in the sun, and does not contain dust, so that the water near the beach always remains clean and transparent.

A beautiful-looking legend takes on true colors: not so long ago, scientists proved that this amazing sand, so softly caressing your feet when you step along Cleopatra's beach, is found only in northern Africa. In all likelihood, it was from there that he was brought as a gift to the captivating queen.

One way or another, the unique sand is considered a national treasure of Turkey and is very strictly guarded: for example, you can’t walk along the beach in shoes, and before going back to the city, tourists voluntarily-compulsorily take a shower - apparently, so as not to inadvertently take a couple of priceless grains of sand with them. Such is the modern fairy tale!

Sapadere Canyon is one of the canyons in Turkey, which is located forty-eight kilometers north of Alanya and twenty kilometers from Demirtas.

The canyon has become quite popular among tourists after the municipality of Alanya equipped a special footpath in 2008. The walking route is about seven hundred meters.

Thanks to this path, you can discover the wonderful beauty of nature, magnificent views, and enjoy the mountain air.

The canyon forms unusual waterfalls. You also have the opportunity to swim in the mountain stream. The waterfall has a special place for swimming. It is worth noting that coolness always reigns in the canyon, and the water temperature does not exceed twelve degrees even on the warmest days.

The tourist walking route also has a cafe and a restaurant where you can relax after a walk and try national Turkish cuisine.

Alanya fortress

The fortress of Alanya was built in the XIII century by Sultan Aladdin Keykubid on even more ancient ruins of Roman military fortifications. The structure is very extensive and includes about a hundred towers and almost one hundred and fifty bastions, and in the courtyard you can see such well-known (unfortunately, only in rather narrow circles of specialists) monuments as the tomb of Akshabe Sultun, the mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent, the palace of the founding sultan fortress, named after him, and many other absolutely wonderful buildings, both from an archaeological and tourist point of view.

The construction is truly majestic and delights not only with its impressive size (the fortress was built within 12 years!), but also with a rich history that hides many mysteries and secrets. As an illustration of the whole life of the fortress, there is a museum nearby with treasures of Turkish art and various archaeological finds of the area.

Dim Cave

The cave was discovered in 1986. Speleologists and archaeologists worked there for many years. It became available for visiting tourists 12 years later.

So, the cave itself is located vertically at a depth of 350 meters. Its length is over 400 meters. The cave consists of four galleries, each of which is good and interesting in its own way. All year round the temperature in the cave is a little less than 20 degrees with a humidity of 90%.

The first gallery is strewn with ceramic fragments. The vault of the hall of extraordinary beauty. The second hall is rich in a huge number of stalagmites and stalactites. They are everywhere - on the walls, the floor and even hang from the ceiling in the form of icicles. The third gallery is connected to the second by a small narrow passage. But for tourists, electricity has been provided here for a long time, so getting deeper into the cave will not be so scary. There are even more stalactites, which are mixed together with calcareous tufa. In the fourth grotto, human remains are revealed to the eyes of the curious. Because of the salt and high humidity, they are well preserved, despite the fact that they are more than one century old.

Dolphinarium Sealanya

The Sealanya Dolphinarium is really worth it if you don’t go to Turkey just for it, then at least look there while traveling along the Turkish coast. It will be quite convenient, because the dolphinarium is located very close to the city of Alanya - just a 20-minute drive, and the pleasure is worth it.

Several times a day, shows are held here with the participation of dolphin artists, fur seals and lions, bottlenose dolphins - the delight from communicating with these wonderful animals will be limitless! Moreover, during the breaks between shows, you can communicate with the same dolphins more closely - they willingly swim and play with anyone. And there are so many people who want that it is better to buy a ticket in advance - the number of places in groups is limited.

Dolphin therapy sessions are held in the dolphinarium - a great chance for those who have always wanted to try this type of therapy (perhaps one of the most enjoyable among the existing ones), but somehow there was no time or opportunity. The best addition to your vacation in a Turkish resort!

Are you curious to know how well you know the sights of Alanya? .

Sealanya Seapark

Selanya Seapark is a great choice for anyone who wants to relax with the family or with a noisy campaign. The water park consists of two parts - the water park itself (Selanya Seapark) and the dolphinarium (Dolphinpark). The entire territory of the park is encircled by the Slow River attraction. In a weak current, you can walk or swim. The bottom of the central pool is decorated with old dilapidated amphorae vases, columns, grottoes and shells. Bright small fish swim between them. For everyone there is the possibility of diving with a mask and snorkel.

The water park has a swimming pool with safe skates. There is even a pool with sharks - extreme lovers can dive there in an iron cage. In the dolphinarium, funny dolphins and funny fur seals perform for the audience.

Individual and group

Turkey is a wonderful country! And love for her wakes up when you leave the hotel, go beyond "Drinks, food, beach, animation", buy a map, choose an interesting sight, get on a city bus, get off at the right stop and forward to new research and personal discoveries. And they are worth it, believe me.

Today we will talk about Alanya and its many attractions, which you can get to on your own and see them for a penny.

We got to Alanya from the Aydinbey Gold Dream 5 * hotel (Turkler) by bus for $ 2.5, we didn’t have local exchange money, otherwise it would have been cheaper. The stop is located directly opposite the hotel, in the opposite direction from the airport. Drive about 40-50 minutes along the sea.

We go to the final station, the bus stops at the market. So it was not a market day, only clothes and shoes were sold. And if you want to buy fresh and tasty vegetables and fruits, fragrant spices and teas, cheeses and olives, halva and Turkish delight - you need to come on Friday. Prices from 1 lira per kilogram, everything is very cheap!!!

Further, we go down to the Embankment-port, the landmark is the Kyzyl Kule tower, it can be seen from afar. Why is she remarkable? Yachts, fishing boats, pirate sightseeing ships moor here. You can take beautiful photos, relax in a beautiful place and take a sea excursion, the price is from $10.

After the Embankment, we climbed to the Kyzyl Kule tower (red tower), walked along the fortress wall, the views were crazy! This watchtower was built in the 13th century to protect against pirate attacks. Entrance fee is 4.5 lira.

The most beautiful views continued to capture, having descended a little, we noticed a small, secluded beach, right under the fortress walls.

We could not resist, immediately dived into the water, it's good that we were wearing swimsuits)) It's a thrill!!! The water is warm, the entrance is very small and even pleasant pebbles.

Then, we decided to climb up and find the Archaeological Museum, on the way we cooled off with freshly squeezed orange juice (1 and dried at the same time. The entrance is only 5 lira, they accept only lira, so be sure to exchange money in advance, exchangers will meet you on the way.

The museum itself is small, but the collection is quite rich: coins, household items, vessels, plaster busts, statues, etc.

At the exit, we were even treated to sweets, a trifle, but nice)))

And again we dive into the sea))) We dry a little, have a snack with apples stored from breakfast))

After that, we decide to take the funicular to the very top of the defensive fortress - the main pride of Alanya.

This fortress was built in the 13th century and is visible from anywhere in the city. Inside the fortress there is a mosque, a cemetery, a monastery, a mint, the Sultan's winter palace, here you can also buy souvenirs, soft drinks. The ticket price for the funicular is 18 lira in both directions and 10 lira in one direction, it works until 22.00.

The fortress can also be reached by bus or on foot. Among the shortcomings, I want to note that during our visits there were no signs, identification plates on the sights, but it is definitely worth visiting here, magnificent views and special energy! Only very hot, you get tired quickly ...

It's time to cool off in the unique Damlatash cave, it is located at the foot of the guard fortress, right on the Cleopatra beach, we return back to the beach and here we were unlucky, the cave was closed, although it works until 18.00. The ticket price is only 5 lira. But you should definitely go! We return home, on the way we buy ice cream, look into the Vikiki branded Turkish store, and do a little shopping. The clothes are quite high quality and quite inexpensive, and we return to the hotel by bus.

If you are interested in a real, oriental bazaar, you can watch a video review

Being a person who is in love with the Mediterranean with all my heart, I gladly accepted the offer to go in May with the whole family for a vacation in Alanya. Prices for holidays there are much cheaper than in most countries of the Eurozone. From friends we heard many interesting stories about the city and its sights. Looking ahead a little, I will say that the impressions that remained from the trip cannot be compared with other people's stories, they turned out to be much brighter and more interesting.

Short video about Alanya

How to get there

We went the simplest way, followed by most Russians, by ordering a ticket through a travel agency (by the way, you can see them). But there are many other ways to get to Alanya. For them, sea and land types of vehicles are used. It is very easy to do this, because Alanya is the largest resort city on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey. On this site there is a special one where you can see the current prices for the flight.

Light modes of transport are also popular - quads and motorcycles. But they are only suitable for couples traveling without children. The rental price is 30-40 USD. You can rent a bike. For this, Call a bike rental points are made in Alanya. Payment and unlocking of the bike is carried out through a special machine where a credit card is inserted. The cost of daily rent is 10 TRY, but 150 TRY is blocked on the card. This is to prevent theft of the bike.

Be sure to rent a car in Alanya to visit the surrounding villages and attractions. To do this, it is not necessary to travel far - they are all within 45-50 km from the city. True, you need to allocate at least 3-4 days for trips, it will not work to see everything in one day.

The traffic on the streets of Alanya is heavy, but all drivers drive carefully, unlike in Kemer, where we almost had an accident. Roads are in good condition, even in mountainous areas. During all the trips, we saw the traffic police with a radar only once - at the entrance to Alanya. But we were driving at the allowed speed, so we were not stopped.

Alanya - holidays with children

Children are treated very cordially here - in hotels, employees try their best to help with accommodation in the room, and during breakfasts and lunches in the dining room. In hotels with 4-5 stars, there are always animators for children and even special children's rooms, where, for a fee, parents can leave them when they go on a trip to the mountains. If private apartments are chosen, you can independently arrange a pastime for children during a holiday in Alanya.

Trips to water parks will delight little travelers. In addition, there are many free children's playgrounds and mini-training machines on the embankment. At the entrance to the city on the road from Antalya, there is a popular amusement park. A ticket for 5 different carousels costs 40 TRY or 10 EUR.
