Hello our dear readers)

Today we again have a piece of our Spanish autumn, or rather, today I will show and tell you about the city in which we lived for all 3 months. I only recently realized that I never wrote anything about the city itself. Torremolinos and decided that it urgently needs to be fixed.

There were no articles about him for one simple reason - there are simply no significant sights in Torremolinos itself, so there seemed to be nothing to tell. But today I will tell you not about the sights of this town, but about the cute and not very features that you should know about when going on vacation or wintering to this place.

The sights of Torremolinos can be counted on the fingers. This is, for example, a monument near our house. Who he is, I don't remember, to be honest.

But first, just a few words about the city itself. It is not big at all and is closest to . For us, this was a real plus, because. From here it was very convenient to travel to different towns. The main attraction and favorite place in the city for us was, of course, the beach of Torremolinos. The beach strip lasts about 7 km and is very beautiful and wide in all areas. We were in and in Fuengirola, but since in Torremolinos, we didn’t like the beach anywhere else. But maybe we are also used to it) The beaches were cleaned every day, cleaned and leveled the sand. So every day it was a pleasure to come to the seashore and enjoy the beauty and the sea breeze.

The beaches of Torremolinos are wide, clean, well maintained and fully equipped. Relaxing on such beaches is a pleasure.

It also offers a beautiful view of the mountains and Malaga itself.

There is nothing special to see in Torremolinos itself. Of the attractions of the city: a couple of monuments, a couple of old houses, and the tourist street of San Miguel. I won’t even write something about the sights, because. there is a lot of this information on the net, but I can’t think of anything new for sure) I’ll tell you about what can really be important for life in this city.

La Bateria Park is one of the few highlights of Torremolinos.

One of the features of the city of Torremolinos is sand sculptures. They were made by local hippies for thanks in the form of euro coins) For three months we saw sooo many of them. But at the same time, every time they admired, like the first)

Transport

The main transport in the city itself is buses. They go according to schedule throughout the town. About bus routes, it is better to initially be interested in tourist centers, of which there are several on the coast. For the first time, we clarified in these offices, and then we were well oriented ourselves. In general, bus routes are always written at stops, and if you know the name of your stop, then you can figure it out yourself without any problems.

There are, of course, also Taxi. You can call by number 952380600. Arrives within 1 minute. The cost of ordering by phone is 1 euro (added to the bill when paying). Can be taken on the street. There are often taxis near large hotels.

We only took a taxi to the airport. The price of the trip was 17 euros once, the second time 20. Why the price changed at an equal distance remained a mystery to me

And so is train (renfe.com). It's like an electric train. In Torremolinos, the station is located right in the center of the city, on the square, off the tourist street of San Miguel. Trains run every 15 minutes in both directions (to Malaga and to Fuengirola). Weekend breaks are longer, especially in the morning.

The shops

With shops in Torremilinos, the situation is not the most interesting. You will not find any large shopping complexes here. Lots of little shops in the San Miguel area and on the promenade. But in general, for clothes shopping, for example, we went either to Malaga, or, in the end already, to Fuengirola.

If you need some little things for your home, then you can safely go to the Chinese. Here you will find at least 3-4 stores with goods from China. The stores are very large and you can buy everything in them: clothes, linen for the house, everything for the kitchen, books, games, sports goods, etc. We most often went to one that was not far from our house (36.627849, -4.495079), but we also went to the same ones on the embankment and in the city center.

In addition, as throughout Spain, many shops (not grocery stores) close during the day for a siesta. Time may vary. But more often everything is closed from 16.00 to 18.00. But again, not all are closed. Apparently those who are not lazy continue to work.

Well, the sweetest thing is that on Sunday all the shops of the city are closed. Large supermarkets including.

We were able to get used to it only at the end and therefore often on Sunday we were left without food at home. Saved, again, a Chinese restaurant near the house. Oh those Chinese, they are everywhere

But everything is not so sad, and we still found 3 stores that work on Sunday. One store is generally open 24 hours a day. And in Torremolinos, he seems to be the only one. To be 36.626849, -4.499431. The assortment is so-so, but you can buy something to eat. The second is located near the main arena of the city. Coordinates 36.620568, -4.507896. Here the assortment is already very decent, so you can safely go. And the third one is right on the main square near the metro. But he has a nuance - everything needs to be bought in bulk. Inexpensive, but for 1 piece almost nothing is sold.

Since I have already touched on the topic of Sunday, I will immediately note that every Sunday in Torremolinos takes place swap meet. It is located just at the arena of the city. Opening hours from 10.00 to 14.00. We went once and, to be honest, just freaked out from the size) There are crowds of people, even more sellers) You can really buy EVERYTHING! In general, if you have time, take a look. colorful place)

Well, continuing the theme of shops and markets, a few words about San Miguel street. This is the main tourist street of the city. It is completely pedestrian and goes from the city center to the embankment. I don’t know what is there in winter and spring, but until November it was quite active and interesting. Lots of shops, lots of restaurants and snacks. It was here that we found a very tasty Indian restaurant and our favorite Yoguy yogurt ice cream. At the end of November, however, it was no longer so interesting, because. many shops have simply been closed.

Well, we smoothly flowed to the topic restaurants. Oh, this Spanish cuisine) Tasty-tasty-tasty) Everything that we tried during these 3 months, everything was delicious. There has never been such a thing that we came somewhere and we did not like it. But thanks to our good friends, today I can safely advise you a couple of places that you should definitely visit if you want to eat very tasty.

The best meat restaurant in Torremolinos is La Huerta. To be here 36.613087, -4.502846. It is held by a wonderful couple Carlos and Natasha. Here is the best meat, cooked, really, with love. I still remember oxtails and the most tender lamb) This is some kind of fairy tale)

Very good fish restaurant Caribbean. Located right on the Carihuela promenade and cooking mmmmm. Almost ate their hands.

And the place where you can drink very tasty cocktails (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) is Playa Miguel. Also located on the Carihuela promenade.

But in general, friends, everywhere in Spain is tasty and good) Come, try, experiment, and I'm sure your heart, like your stomach, will forever remember these divine tastes and aromas.

This is probably the main thing I wanted to tell you, but there are some points that are not so important, but very curious) For example:

In Torremolinos very many gay couples. I don’t know exactly why, but it so happened historically that same-sex couples have a rest here. This was indeed noticeable in September and October, when the concentration of people was greater. In November, we met such comrades much less frequently, but we did meet them. It didn't bother me personally, although there were a couple of moments when even I felt uncomfortable seeing boys in pink thongs dancing, hugging each other. I guess for most it doesn't matter, but maybe someone might not like it, so better to know about it in advance)

In addition, along with a large number of same-sex couples, there are a lot of stray cats in Torremolinos. It surprised me all the time, but cats living on rocks are like sparrows on our birches

Mountain goats live somewhere, and mountain cats live in Torremolinos)

Plus, in September-October there were a lot of mosquitoes And flies. And if the mosquitoes gradually faded away, and we were not embarrassed, then the flies really got it. The creatures are so arrogant that they could unceremoniously sit right on the nose or climb into the eyes. There was no escape from them. Only the onset of cold weather in November somehow improved the situation.

with the weather By the way, we consider ourselves lucky overall. It became not comfortable only at the end of November, the last couple of weeks. It was already cool during the day, and I had to wear jackets and sweaters. It became very cold at night, and the most unpleasant thing was that it began to rain. A few days before departure, a tornado happened at all (a real sea tornado that completely demolished the Capacabana restaurant and partly one gas station) and we realized that we had to run. Otherwise, all three months were warm and sunny. True, the icy sea became the biggest disadvantage of this region of Spain. In fact, we were only able to swim for a few days at the end of October! Apparently, warm currents came and the water became normal. But in September, when it was impossible to get hot outside, it was impossible to enter the water. Cold currents did their vile business, which spoiled the whole buzz)

In general, the city of Torremolinos left the warmest memories in my heart. The whole town is very nice, clean and somehow homely. By the end, I was already recognized by all the neighbors, sellers in various stores and owners of nearby restaurants. All three months of our life here were very comfortable and calm. All days we felt at home and didn’t worry about anything. Except, perhaps, how to get yourself food on Sundays)

We can absolutely recommend visiting this corner of the world. Here you will see the real Spain, so bright, beautiful, colorful, authentic, comfortable, clean, kind ... and, of course, very, very tasty)

You can get from Malaga to this resort town along the A-7 highway, the distance is 13 km. More recently, Torremolinos was a poor fishing village, but in the 50s of the last century, the tourism industry turned it into one of the best and most popular resorts in Spain. According to 2012 data, the city covers an area of 20 km² and has a population of 66,4957 people. However, being one of the most popular resorts, both in Spain and on the entire Mediterranean coast, during the summer months the city increases the population up to 7 times, surpassing such world-famous resorts as Mallorca, Benidorm or Lloret del Mar.

Torremolinos is especially popular among the British, many of whom immigrated to this friendly and sunny city. In the past, the flow of Britons has been so great that it has caused some friction and gossip by the local authorities as well. However, migration led to rapid economic growth and the creation of a developed urban infrastructure.

In addition to the developed tourist sector, the city is known for its vibrant nightlife, in particular for its nightclubs and bars.

Torremolinos: a bit about the history of the city

Archaeological finds, including the remains of human bones, tools and household items, confirm that even in the Neolithic era, there was a settlement on the territory of Torremolinos. Radiocarbon analysis has helped to establish that a number of the remains belong to Neanderthals, and their age is 150,000 years.

The records of the great mathematician, astronomer, astrologer and geographer Claudius Ptolemy, who lived from 90 to 168 AD, who during the time of Roman domination visited the settlement located on the site of modern Torremolinos, which at that time was called Saduce, have survived to this day. The Romans built a road passing through it, connecting the cities of Cadiz and Malaga. Also in 1993, a Roman-era necropolis with 23 graves was found on its territory.

Torremolinos was occupied by the Arabs shortly after their arrival in Spain. The Arabs erected many mills in the city, which, in fact, served as the basis for the modern name of the city. Derivative words were "Torre" - a tower and "Mollino" - a mill. Since 1300, the city came under the control of the Nasrid dynasty of the Emirate of Granada. During this period, a fortification tower was built in the city, the remains of which can be seen on San Miguel Street.

After the fall of Granada, which marked the end of the Reconquista in Spain, the city was constantly attacked by North African pirates, which continued until the 18th century. During the War of the Spanish Succession of 1701-1714, Torremolinos was repeatedly attacked by the combined forces of the Anglo-Dutch flotilla under the command of Admiral George Rook and was practically wiped off the face of the earth. A document describing these terrible events and dating from 1769 states that only 106 inhabitants remained in the city.

During the first half of the 19th century, the city was actively rebuilt, and by 1849 there were only 14 mills in it. With the decline of the flour-grinding industry, the city began to look more and more like a fishing village.

However, in the 50s, tourism began to flourish in Torremolinos, as well as throughout the Costa del Sol, especially for citizens from Britain. Most of the mills were demolished and hotels were built in their place. At the moment, only one Molino de Inca remains.
