Ferry schedule to Kolan. Koh Larn Island - the best beach holiday in Pattaya! Transport infrastructure and the possibility of renting a moped

From Bali Hai Pier you can get to Koh Larn in Pattaya in three ways: by ferry for 30 baht, by ferry for 150 baht and by speedboat. The last option is the most expensive and comfortable, but we will not consider it today. Most tourists use the services of simple ferries.

(If anyone doesn’t know, the Bali Hai Pier is located at the very end of Walking Street)

Ferry for 30 baht

In the past we always went to Koh Larn on the cheapest ferry. Its value has not changed for many years. A one-way fare costs only 30 baht. It takes about 40 minutes to reach the island, and then tourists decide for themselves which beach they would like to relax on, and depending on their choice, they board the appropriate tuk-tuk. It must be said that all the beaches of Koh Larn are completely different and, probably, every tourist already has his own favorite. For example, we like Ta-Yai Beach and Tien Beach the most.

Prices for travel to all beaches vary. The fare varies from 20 to 40 baht (the cheapest fare is to Ta Waen Beach, and the most expensive fare is to Ta-Yai Beach).

Taking into account all the transfers and expectations, the minimum time in which you can get to the beach of Koh Larn you need is approximately 1 hour. The return journey will take the same amount of time. And the minimum price for the entire round trip is 100 baht.

The main advantage of the 30 baht ferry is that you have the freedom to choose the beach you want to go to, and you don’t have to really watch the time, return ferries to Pattaya leave every hour.

Ferry for 150 baht

Last weekend we took the ferry to Koh Larn for the first time for 150 baht. This price includes travel to Samae Beach and back. The barkers assured us that it was faster and would take us to the island in just 30 minutes. But as it turned out in practice, we still drove for the same 40, and maybe even 50 minutes. And it’s no different in terms of comfort, everything is exactly the same as on the ferry for 30 baht (it’s noisy and quite seasick).

During the journey, the Thai guide told us something in English and offered various water activities, such as riding a banana boat, flying behind a boat with a parachute and an underwater walk in special equipment. Anyone could immediately order any service.

Having reached the indicated beach, our ferry stopped a short distance from the pontoon pier, and large boats began to approach it, which in batches delivered vacationers to the shore. This whole procedure took us about 20 minutes, and, to be honest, it didn’t give us much pleasure (we have to stand for a long time and wait for our turn, and then stomp on a very swaying pier). In the opposite direction everything is the same.

You can leave back at 15, 16 or 17 pm. If a tourist loses his sticker, which he is given when purchasing a ticket, then the fare will have to be paid again.

Well, Samae Beach itself, although not bad, is still not the best on Koh Lan. It's not possible to eat cheaply there at all. Prices start from 150 baht per dish. But, for example, on Thiene there are several very good and inexpensive cafes.

Conclusion

If you want to get to Samae Beach on the island of Koh Larn, then the price will be the same in both cases. And in terms of comfort, probably, too. In the first case, you will need to go on a tuk-tuk, and in the second, you will have to wait your turn on the boat.

Well, if you are going to Koh Larn for the first time and have not yet decided on your favorite beach, then of course it is better to get there by ferry for 30 baht.

Since they are not distinguished by their beauty and purity, the one located very nearby comes to the rescue. Moreover, it is very easy to get to. Hundreds of tourists from Pattaya visit the island every day. Some people stay here for a couple of days, while others just come to soak up the snow-white sand for a few hours. I will talk about the main ways in which you can visit Koh Larn, as well as their features and disadvantages.

Ferry

The most popular and at the same time the most budget option to get to Koh Larn is a ferry ride. They sail from the Bali Hai pier, located near. You can recognize the pier building by the turquoise color of its roof. Inside there are ticket offices selling tickets towards Koh Larn.

The ferry fare is 30 baht one way. You can purchase a ticket either at the ticket window or while boarding the ferry. Travel time is about 45 minutes. They run throughout the day. The first flight departs at 7 am, the last at 6 pm.

Please note that there are two piers on Koh Larn - Naban and Tawaen, and therefore ferries arrive both there and there. This point must be clarified when purchasing tickets.

There are no beaches near Naban Pier; to get to the nearest one you will have to take a taxi or songthaew. As for the second pier - Tavaen, the situation is a little different. Its namesake beach is quite muddy and dirty; almost no one uses it for swimming. But nearby there is an excellent Sangwan beach, famous for its clean coastline and clear water.

There is another ferry in Pattaya that takes passengers for 150 baht round trip. On the one hand, it may seem that the offer is not profitable, but on the other hand, it should be noted that you will be taken to one of the most popular beaches of Koh Larn - Thong Lang, Thian or Samae. They will take you back from there. You won't have to spend extra money on taxis or songthaews. This ferry makes its first flight from Pattaya at 9 am, and the last from Koh Larn at 17:00.

Boat

A speedboat is quite a tempting, but not a cheap offer. The cost of a two-way trip on it will cost 300 baht. It also departs from Bali Hai Pier. Upon arrival, you will see a large stand with all the information you need about this type of transport. There is no exact departure schedule for the boats, as they depart according to their occupancy. There is no point in arriving at the pier before 8 o'clock. The boat fills up quite quickly.

If you don’t want to depend on anyone, you can rent a boat yourself. They all stand on the left side of the pier. The average cost varies between 2500 baht. The advantage is that you can swim to almost any beach, relax without depending on anyone, and return back when it is convenient for you.

Trip with excursion

Visiting Koh Larn as part of an excursion group is perhaps the most unjustified decision. Firstly, the cost of such programs starts from 800 baht, and secondly, you will be completely limited in time. But if you look from the other side, you will be picked up from your hotel, taken to the pier, there you will transfer to a boat, and visit the most interesting places on Koh Larn. Some companies also include lunch in the tour price. To buy an excursion, contact any agency, choose the most suitable price for yourself and go to the paradise coast of the neighboring island.

Almost all tourists vacationing in Pattaya go to Koh Larn. For some, this trip becomes a real tradition, and they can visit there several times during their vacation. Today, Koh Larn is a full-fledged resort with excellent tourist infrastructure, which makes it possible to consider it even for a long holiday.

This question is asked by many people who came to the resort for the first time and saw with their own eyes the far from ideal cleanliness of the local beaches. Fortunately, very close to the city is the large island of Ko Lan, famous for its crystal clear waters that attract hundreds of tourists.

If you also decide to visit this wonderful place, then your starting point will be the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, located not far from the equally famous Walking Street. Go through the arch where the name of the street is indicated and turn at the first fork towards the sea (to the right) - in just a few steps you will find yourself on the pier. An unusual building with a bright turquoise roof is perfect as an identification mark. Here you can purchase tickets for transport to the island.

location of the Bali Hai pier, from which ferries depart to nearby islands, on the map of Pattaya

The ferry in Pattaya is considered one of the most affordable ways to travel, as its one-way cost is only 30 baht.

Many tourists purchase ferry tickets at ticket offices, however, this is not the best option. The reason is simple - most cashiers offer to get to the island on more expensive speed boats, receiving their commissions from transport companies for each ticket sold. Therefore, it is best to pass by these ticket offices and purchase tickets directly on the ferry itself.

Walk along the Bali Hai pier and closer to its end, and closer to the sea itself, you will see low-cost ferries moored and boarding. There are several local “conductors” standing nearby, to whom you give money and freely board the plane. Very often, the departure is delayed by 10 minutes, so if you think that you are already late, there is still a chance to find suitable seats on time.

Usually the ferry from Pattaya arrives to the islands in about 40-50 minutes, depending on the wind and weather conditions. It stops at Naban Pier, from where it goes to the mainland. The largest beach, which is closest to the pier, is called Tawaen, which can be reached on foot or by motorcycle taxi for 20 baht.

The ferry can also go and stop directly at Tawaen Pier. Although it doesn’t make much difference where you sail, because from both piers on the island of Koh Larn it’s easy to get by tuk-tuk to any beach you need in a few minutes - the price of the trip, depending on the distance of the beach, is from 20 to 50 baht. The return ticket from Ko Larn to Pattaya is also purchased before boarding, on the ferry itself.

From Pattaya from Bali Hai Pier: 7.00; 10.00; 12.00; 13.00; 15.30; 17.00 and 18.30.

The time may change, so in winter there are no trips at 18.30, since at this time it is already dark, and naturally there are no people willing to go to the island either.

From Koh Larn from Naban Pier: 06.30; 07.30; 09.30; 12.00; 14.00; 17.00 and 18.00.

If you miss the last ferry, you will have to take a speedboat back to Pattaya. And at this time of day you will most likely pay at least 500-700 baht for the trip. In this case, it will be easier to rent a room or a room for the night on the island itself for the money and stay there overnight.

Do not forget that the schedule may change depending on the season, so it is better to find out the exact departure time of the ferry on site, for example, at stands located near the ferry mooring area. In addition, you can find the current schedule in the ticket office building at the entrance to the pier or on the ferries themselves. The map of Ko Larn, which you see in the photo, which you can take at the pier for free, look at at the resort itself, or download on the Internet (just make sure that the issue is recent, otherwise the information may not be entirely accurate) is also perfect.

Koh Larn Island has a small area that contains enough attractions for a 1-2 day excursion. Koh Larn is worth a visit for the beaches, which are much cleaner than those in the city. To attract tourists, the infrastructure on the island is constantly developing: the quality of hotels and cafes is improving, new attractions are being built, and entertainment programs are being updated.

What is the island?

Koh Lan is a small island off the coast of Thailand, part of the city of Pattaya. The territory is located in the Gulf of Thailand, the area is 6 square meters. km.

The main advantages of island beaches over city beaches are clean water. This factor attracts many foreign tourists who come to relax in Pattaya. The beaches also offer a wide variety of water attractions. The most popular among tourists are:

  • Water skiing or parasailing.
  • Jet ski rental.
  • Riding on a banana or tablet.
  • Diving and snorkeling.
  • Kayaking.

The cost of entertainment is overpriced by about 30% compared to Pattaya. Each beach is equipped with at least one water transport rental station. Fishing is allowed in some places.

Among other entertainments on the island, massage parlors should be highlighted. Establishments are found quite often, approximately every 300-400 m. There are also tents on the beaches in which artists make decorative tattoos or exotic hairstyles.

There are few attractions on the island. Three places are really worth visiting: the temple where Buddhist monks live, the observation tower and the statue dedicated to Buddha. The observation deck offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Thailand and part of Pattaya.

How to get to the island from Pattaya

Koh Larn island is located near Pattaya. The duration of the trip will be no more than 40 minutes. There are three piers on the island: Na Ban, Ta Waen and Thong Lang, each with ferries. There are 4 ways to get to Koh Larn.

By ferry from Bali Hai Pier

The easiest way to get to the island is to take a ferry. They run daily at varying intervals: the one-way trip lasts 40 minutes. Ferries depart from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, bringing tourists to Ta Waen. The cost of the ferry in both directions is 60 baht. Ferry schedule:

  • Departure from Pattaya: at 8:00; 9:00; 11:00; 13:00.
  • Departure to Pattaya: at 13:00; 14:00; 15:00; 16:00; 17:00.

Tickets must be purchased no later than 30 minutes before departure. On the mainland, trips are sold at the pier ticket office, although you can buy directly on the ferry. Tickets from the island are sold exclusively on transport. All ferries maneuver between Bali Hai and Ta Waen: to get to the other part of Ko Lan, you will have to rent a bike, walk or use public transport.

By cruise boat from Bali Hai Pier

One of the most expensive ways to get from Pattaya to Koh Larn is to purchase a cruise boat trip. This type of transport moves faster than a ferry, but circles around the island, showing its beauty. Only then does the transport dock and disembark passengers. The cost of the trip is from 800 to 1000 baht.

On a speed boat

Speedboats depart from almost all Pattaya beaches to Koh Larn, although most depart from Bali Hai Pier. In addition, the central pier of the city has the lowest prices. Having gathered a group of vacationers, the owner of the boat names the price. Depending on the number of passengers, the price of the trip can be either 100 or 400 baht. In addition, it is possible to rent a boat completely, purchasing all the seats. This service is estimated at 2-2.5 thousand baht.

The boat will take tourists to Koh Larn in just 15-20 minutes.

Excursions

Sightseeing trips include a transfer to the island, sometimes a quick sightseeing, then a visit to the central beach. This method of traveling to Koh Larn is the simplest: just buy a ticket and follow the instructions of the guide. A standard trip includes a trip from your stay in Pattaya to Ta Waen Beach, a free sunbed with umbrella, and lunch.

Some excursions include sightseeing. There are not many of them on Koh Larn, but the time spent is worth it. The cost of the excursion is 1000 baht, but may vary depending on the services provided and the program.

How to get to Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya

Koh Larn Island is located next to Pattaya. Accordingly, the easiest way to get there is to use transport from the city.

Water transport is concentrated at the Bali Hai Pier, the city's central pier. There are several ways to get to it. The easiest way is to walk or hire a taxi. The first method is free, the second depends on the distance. On average, a taxi costs 100 baht. There is also public transport available to the pier, the cost of which is 50 baht.

Beaches of Koh Larn

The island is not popular as a permanent holiday destination. Tourists prefer to visit it as part of one-day excursions. Koh Larn is a place that has partially preserved the untouched tropical nature, which attracts many people. In addition, the island's beaches are much cleaner than those in Pattaya.

Among the coastal areas equipped for swimming, 6 should be highlighted.

Ta Waen Beach

Tawaen is the central beach of Koh Larn. It is most popular among tourists, which is due to excursion trips: as a rule, agencies take vacationers to it. One of the island's three piers is located near the beach, making travel easy. Tawaen is known for its good infrastructure: in addition to many entertainment options, there are several cafes, retail outlets and souvenir shops on the territory.

Tien Beach

The beach is widely known among tourists. This causes high attendance during the seasonal influx of vacationers. Tien Beach should be visited in the off-season, otherwise there is simply no free space on the beach - the length of the coastline is only 400 meters. Low tides have almost no effect on the purity of the water, and the land is constantly cleaned of debris. Coral reefs are located at shallow depths, literally surrounding the beach. They can be seen during high tides, which are extremely rare, or while diving. The easiest way to get to the beach is to take a tuk-tuk.

Nual Beach or Monkey Beach

The official name is Nual Beach, in everyday life it is called Monkey Beach - the beach of monkeys. This is due to the large number of animals living in the surrounding forests. There is no infrastructure on the beach - you can only rent a sunbed. The only factor that ensures the attendance of Nual Beach is the monkeys. Animals are not shy about approaching people, but you should be careful. Wild monkeys are capable of stealing anything and even biting it.

Samae Beach

Samae is the cleanest and most picturesque beach on Koh Larn. Many excursion bureaus take tourists to it to show all the beauty of the tropics. The length of the beach is 700 meters, which is why it is not crowded even during the tourist season. Samae has one of the best infrastructures on the island: in addition to sun lounger rentals and cafes, the beach offers water activities. The coast is covered with white sand, although there are occasional rocks. In addition, Samae has convenient entry into the water.

Ta Yai Beach

The most secluded beach of the island, located in the north. The privacy and picturesque nature of Ta Yai makes it an ideal place for romantic dates. The beach has two disadvantages: it is short, only 100 meters; rocky bottom exposed during low tides.

In addition, literally everything on the beach is overpriced. Renting a sun lounger costs 100 baht, the same cost for 500 ml of soda, although during the rainy season there is a 50% discount on services and products.

The beach infrastructure is represented by tents offering sun loungers and water transport for rent, soft drinks and ice cream. Several outlets sell alcohol.

Thong Lang beach

It is the closest beach to Pattaya on Koh Larn, which has a pier. This is its distinctive feature: near the pier there is a public transport stop and a bike rental point. The beach itself is short. The infrastructure on the shore is well developed. Thong Lang has one big drawback - the pollution of the coastline.

Ways to get around the island

The island's territory is small - it can be completely covered on foot in a day. But such exploration of the island is not recommended. There are 3 types of transport for traveling around the island, varying in cost.

Knock Knock

Public transport maneuvers around the island in two directions. The first one starts at Nabaen Pier, the second one starts at Tawaen Beach. The cost of a tuk-tuk ride is 40 baht per person. This method of transportation is the cheapest, although less comfortable. This is due to other passengers, who are filled to the maximum. In addition, the roads are steep and undulate a lot.

Bike rental

Tourists who have the right to drive a motor vehicle can rent a bike. Bike rentals are available at all piers on the island, as well as at several hotels. The cost is approximately 200 baht per day.

Mototaxi

This type of service costs the same as a tuk-tuk ride. Transport is faster and more maneuverable, but more dangerous to life. This is due, first of all, to the tortuosity of the roads. The cost of the trip may vary depending on the season and the number of tourists wanting to ride.

On foot

The most inconvenient way to travel around the island. Although the area of the island is only 6 square meters. km, it is quite difficult to get around on foot. The roads are quite steep, which creates problems when traveling.

Where to eat

Although Koh Larn is a small island, there are quite a lot of food establishments on it. The majority are inexpensive cafes that serve Thai dishes. In addition to them, there are several small bars and elite restaurants on the island.

There are grocery stores near the hotels, most of which sell prepared food. There are many mobile stalls and stalls on the beaches offering drinks and snacks.

Hotels on the island

The island of Koh Larn is equipped with many hotels that are ready to accommodate tourists who come for a couple of days or several weeks. Most hotels are located in the eastern part of the coast, away from the beaches. Hotels willingly accept tourists from Pattaya who decide to stay on the island for a couple of nights.

The best hotel is the Sukkee sanatorium. The hotel is famous for its high comfort of rooms, quality service and low room prices. On the territory of the hotel there is a fenced access to the sea. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the hotel.

The second most popular hotel, Xanadu, is located on Samae Beach. There are a total of 72 rooms in the building. Each one has the necessary tourist minimum - TV, refrigerator, air conditioning, free wi-fi, shower. A distinctive feature of the hotel is the division of the territory into two parts. The first one houses smoking tourists, and the second one houses the rest. The rooms are as good as Sukkee, but more expensive. This is due to its low popularity.

There are several other decent hotels on the island. Baan Thai Lanna is located on the territory of the botanical garden. A night costs from $100. Hotels Suntosa and Lareena provide services rated three stars. A night in these hotels costs half as much - about $50. When choosing a place to stay overnight on Koh Larn, you should pay attention to tourist reviews and location relative to the sea.

Anyone who has been to Thailand, namely Pattaya, is well aware that the beaches here are far from being like in the picture. There is no white sand, no clear turquoise water, only garbage and dark muddy water of the Gulf of Thailand, looking at which all desire to swim disappears. As a result, instead of swimming in the azure waters of the ocean, the tourist gets a swim in the pool. But there is an island not far from Pattaya, where the beaches are completely different - Koh Larn island . A reasonable question arises: the island of Koh Larn - Pattaya, how to get there by ferry, boat and with an excursion, what is the schedule for Pattaya - Koh Larn, what beaches are on Koh Larn and what hotels are on Koh Larn near Pattaya?

Koh Larn is located just 7 km off the coast of Pattaya and does not have an airport, so the only way to get there is by boat. The pier in Pattaya is called Bali Hai. It is located right at the South end of Walking Street. As a landmark - the famous Pattaya inscription on the hill.

Excursion to Koh Larn island from Pattaya

For people who first came to Pattaya, the easiest and most unreasonably expensive way to get to Koh Larn from Pattaya would be to take a tour. In this case, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to one of the beaches of Koh Larn. The cost of getting to Koh Larn from Pattaya is about 700 baht per person. The price includes: transfer, sunbed, lunch.

Speedboat to Koh Larn from Pattaya

The next way to get to Koh Larn from Pattaya is by speed boat. This option has its pros and cons.

A huge plus is that it will take you to Koh Larn in just 10-20 minutes. It is also convenient that a speedboat can take you to the island not only from the Bali Hai pier, but also from any hotel beach. The boat brings you not only to the two main piers of Koh Larn (Naban and Tawaen), but to any beach you like on the island.

There is only one downside to getting to Koh Larn from Pattaya - the price. You have to pay a lot of money for comfort. Of course, bargaining is appropriate here. But for less than 2,500 baht per boat in both directions, no boatman will take you from the hotel to the island of Koh Larn.

If you take a boat to the island of Koh Larn from Pattaya from the Bali Hai pier, then there is a cheaper option, but you will have to wait until there are 12 people on the boat. In this case, the cost will be 300-500 baht per person. Speedboats depart from the first berths of the pier (No. 1, 2).
