A hill with this name is located to the northwest of the monastery.
Forty-seven years ago, young employees of VNIIEM, the flagship of defense science and industry of that time, chose this place. They organized the club "Istra - Tour". The correspondent of "IV" found out how the Istra skiers live today.
IN good weather the slope is visited by fifty to seventy people a day. Not only residents of Istra and its environs, but also guests from the capital and other regions of the Moscow region rest here. They ride with families, as the slope is ideal for children who are just starting to master this beautiful and risky sport. There is also a place for adult skiers to “accelerate”: according to the local difficulty rating, one of the slopes is assigned the highest level. In total, three slopes and four lifts are prepared for skiing on Tabor, the average length of each slope is 250-300 meters.
Everyone rides here, from two-year-old children. The most experienced skier is 87 years old. We on Tabor rest with our souls, - the club's regulars say.
Enthusiasts take care of the slope themselves: they arranged places for changing clothes, heating and drinking tea, and organized equipment rental. In the summer, on weekends, they go out together for community work days: they cut down bushes and young growth, remove dry trees, clear the slope of dangerous objects, stones, and snags. Usually all members of the club come to such events.
And this has been going on for almost half a century.
Last year, a contractor involved in the restoration of the New Jerusalem Monastery carried out earthworks next to the hill.
Activists of "Istra-Tour" say that after this a lot in the infrastructure ski slope had to be re-created.
The permanent leader of the Istra-Tour, Vladimir Yatsuk, in a conversation with an IV correspondent, recalled that the club exists due to fees and equipment rental. These funds cover the costs associated with the operation of slopes, repair of lifts, payment for heating and lighting.
According to Vladimir Yatsuk, the atmosphere in the club and surrounding nature make it one of the best ski places recreation in the Moscow region.
To the best of our ability, we try to support skiing in the region, but it is difficult to do it at our own expense, - says the chairman of Istra-Tour. - In order to en masse attract tourists to the slopes of Tabor, it is necessary to develop infrastructure, and this, believe me, is a lot of money. We need snow cannons, snow groomers for rolling the slope - this is the minimum that will allow the resort not to depend on the vagaries of nature. The real one " ski paradise» on Tabor is possible only with the support local authorities, - Vladimir Yatsuk is convinced.
Recall that the head of the Moscow region Andrei Vorobyov recently promised to support ski resorts in the Moscow region. And on Favor they hope that Istra-Tour will not be the last on the governor's list.

When to come

How to get there
The city of Istra can be reached by train (in Riga direction) or by car (along the Volokolamsk highway). Having reached the Istra station by train, you need to transfer to a bus or fixed-route taxi and go to the stop "PTU-60" or "ATP", then walk. The second option is to take the train to Novoyerusalimskaya station, then travel 1 bus stop and walk a little again. If you leave Moscow by car, then you need to go along the Volokolamsk highway.
