Do-it-yourself speargun. Homemade high power speargun Make your own speargun

Spearfishers often use a gun. It is, of course, very popular among fishermen. But in order to do it yourself, you will need a lot of different parts. Spearfishing is not only fishing, but also a sport. Many sports clubs offer their customers purchased ones. But you can stand out and make a speargun. If you do not take into account that you will need quite a lot of spare parts, then it is quite simple to assemble it. Moreover, in order to make a speargun, you need materials that may well be at hand. To do this, you need to have a pair of skillful hands, desire and patience. Turning parts, assembling and testing the finished gun will take a sufficient amount of time. Therefore, armed with an article with a full description of the manufacturing process and patience, you can create a real masterpiece. And the main thing is that a spear gun, made with your own hands, will work flawlessly.

What will be needed?

In order for the product to serve for quite a long time, it is necessary to responsibly approach the choice of material from which a pneumatic speargun will subsequently be created with your own hands. Some parts may be available, but some will have to be purchased. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on homemade products. Here is a list of what will be needed:

  • Wire ОВС, 65G or PK for a spring. The most suitable one is at least two millimeters in diameter and 16 m long.
  • Duralumin tube. The diameter should be about 15 mm (excluding wall thickness). Subsequently, the barrel of the future gun will be made from it.
  • To make a handle, you need to buy or find two plates, about a centimeter thick. The material from which they will be made can be oak, and kapron, and aluminum, and plastic, etc.
  • In order to make a harpoon, you need to use a rod made of stainless material. Diameter - up to 10 mm.

As already written earlier, it is quite possible to make an underwater gun with your own hands. Drawings can be found in specialized literature (example in the photo below). The main thing is to make a little effort and contact a locksmith. With it, it will be possible to make parts for the trigger mechanism more durable and reliable. And the spearfishing of a gun created with your own hands will become unforgettable.

Spring manufacturing

As the most difficult part in terms of manufacturing, it needs to be dealt with first. It will not work to make a spring on your own, only using special equipment - a lathe. The spring is wound from a pre-purchased wire with a diameter of up to 2 mm. To get the required step length, first of all, it is wound round to round on a rod with a diameter of up to 6 mm. Then a pull is made, allowing you to set the desired step length of 4.5 mm. This is followed by heat treatment. The spring is heated to 300 degrees, and then cooled to 20-25 °C. This is necessary in order to prevent residual deformations. In order to fix the spring in the barrel, and also so that the harpoon is fixed and does not fall through, the coils at the ends must be heated and then bent so that they are perpendicular to the sectional plane of the spring. Its length must be greater than the trunk by at least 30 centimeters. The reason lies in the fact that the first shot will shorten the spring by 10-15 cm.

Barrel manufacturing

In order to make a barrel, you need to take a duralumin tube (you can use it. The length will directly depend on the depth and area of \u200b\u200bthe reservoir in which the shooting will be carried out. On average, the barrel should be about 60-75 cm.

Next, let's get down to manufacturing. You can use a duralumin ski pole. Two slots must be cut in the trunk on both sides. They should be about 15 cm long. You should be aware that the length of these slots will determine the final power and strength of the shotgun. The holes themselves are needed in order to install the sear. To prevent water from accumulating inside the trunk, you need to make another slot. Next, you need to cut the threads at both ends of the tube and the finished part can be set aside.

To make these parts, you will again have to take up the duralumin tube. From it, spare parts of the required sizes and shapes are turned. Next, a hole is made in the plug for the harpoon. By connecting the plug, muzzle and barrel, we get an almost finished product. It remains to make the handle and trigger mechanism.

How to make a handle?

To do this, you will need pre-stocked plates. They need to drill a hole for the barrel. In this case, it is necessary to take into account its real diameter in order to cut out the necessary contours. Now you have to take up the file. With it, you need to make a groove (no deeper than 4 mm) for the trigger. Then holes are made for the axis of the sear, spring and fuse. At the end, both halves of the handle are connected and fixed with two screws. To achieve fixation and prevent slipping along the entire length of the barrel, you need to put a ring in front.

Trigger mechanism

To make a trigger mechanism, you will have to contact a locksmith. With its help, the sear is hardened. This is necessary so that it does not bend, does not break - in other words, does not deform after the first shot. The spring, as mentioned earlier, is also made by a locksmith on a machine. In principle, you can do without his help. But that gun will not live very long. In general, we can say that the whole mechanism was made by a mechanic, the fisherman will only have to assemble it correctly.

Harpoon. Manufacturing technology

A twig with a diameter of 6 millimeters stocked in advance is needed in order to do what the fisherman will shoot with. It's easy to make it. First, you need to connect the twig to the sliding sleeve. This is necessary in order to secure the line. The sleeve is made so that the shank holds the harpoon, and the fluoroplastic ring plays the role of a shock absorber. The tip is quite simple, but tricky. In order for the fish scales to be cut simply and quickly, it is necessary to sharpen it into several faces. In appearance, the tip is just a flag. And on it is a wire so that the fish does not jump off.

Finish line. How to make an easy thrower?

A hard metal plate is attached to the plug on the barrel. Fastening is done by screwing the easy thrower to the barrel with two screws. When winding is performed, the line is under the plate. And in the process of a shot, the line attached to the front sight located in the center of the barrel quickly and easily unwinds.

Ready product

If you follow all the stages of assembling an underwater gun with your own hands, then everything will end successfully. Now we need to test it in action. To charge, you need to insert the harpoon into the barrel until it clicks. After that, it remains only to press the trigger and the shooting will begin. You should also remember that you need to load and unload the gun only in water.

The lethal force, combined with a 3-meter range of destruction, can cause damage not only to fish, but also to an unlucky fisherman. Therefore, in order not to shoot anyone other than aquatic life, every precaution should be taken to ensure safety when spearfishing occurs. Handmade guns are wonderful things, but very dangerous.

There is an opinion that the harpoon is something like a spear (harpoon) for spearfishing. Often it is equated with a prison. And this is understandable, because practically no one uses classic harpoons when hunting or fishing “for fun”. However, the northern indigenous peoples, living off traditional crafts to this day, use this tool.

More civilized Europeans and Americans these days have harpoon guns in their "authority". However, they have practically nothing to do with ancient tools. They are rather complex instruments that have undergone significant modifications over many centuries of their lives. Naturally, the whaling harpoon, which has a detailed description from Herman Melville, was especially famous. Nevertheless, it is known about others that are different in their designs and purposes.

What does the word "harpoon" mean?

In explanatory dictionaries, one can find that the very concept of “harpoen” owes its appearance to the Dutch whalers, who had no equal in the 17th century. The word itself is of late Latin origin from the word harpo ("hook"). However, there is information that this word was used by the Basques in one of the Spanish regions even earlier. From the Basque language, the word "harpoon" can be translated as "stone point". The old Russian name for a harpoon is a reveler or a knitting needle.

Design features of the harpoon and spear

The simplest device has a harpoon for fishing. This harpoon has the appearance of a serrated spear. Some harpoons have rings for attaching to boats. Harpoons can sometimes be called spears or vice versa. However, in reality, spears are somewhat different tools. They have several long teeth and are not throwing weapons. Hunters beat fish with them without releasing the shafts from their hands.

Hunting with a harpoon looks a little different. Harpoons for hunting marine animals are throwing weapons. They consist of shafts (usually wooden), tips (bone, stone or metal) and ropes connecting them. In an environment of lack of raw materials, as well as tools, it is not easy for hunters to make such harpoons.

The tips are usually flat and serrated and are inserted into the shafts, but they are not closely connected to them. Following the throw, the shafts are separated from the tips that have entered the bodies of the victims. At the same time, it was not so often possible to kill animals with a single throw. Wounded animals, trying to hide, pulled the rope, and the shafts floating on the water surface indicated to the hunters the direction of their movement. The victims could not get rid of the points stuck in the bodies because of the obstacle from the side teeth.

Harpoons in the service of different peoples of the world

Harpoons are international weapons. Even primitive people knew how to make a harpoon. They learned how to make and use them even during the Paleolithic. Initially, they were made from bones (the northerners - from walrus or mammoth) and horns, usually deer. The points in the ancient harpoons of the Eskimos, Aleuts, Chukchi and Koryaks were flint, bronze, copper and iron. Although, for example, solid wooden harpoons were also found in Alaska.

In some African tribes, iron-tipped harpoons are used to hunt hippos, and in the Andamans, wild boars. The caves of the European continent (far from the sea) are full of bone tips from not so simple as it might seem, harpoons. They could be used, apparently, for hunting large or forest animals.

It is also known about the bone arrowheads of the Neolithic period on the territory of our country. Hunting with harpoons was carried out all year round. They hunted with the help of boats on the rivers or at the gullies. The ancient Indonesians used harpoons to hunt whales, dolphins and sharks. Structurally, they did not provide for the separation of the tips, they were only tied to the boats with long lines. The Indonesians have a special style of hunting. They do not throw harpoons at whales, but, without letting go of the shafts, jump on their backs and deliver stabbing blows.

Harpoons - ancient whaling tools

The configuration of the harpoons was the most diverse. Classical European or American whaling tools have iron shafts and wide, short blades. More often, such harpoons have wooden handles, for which very long ropes were tied to the boats.

From a distance of six meters, the harpooners threw their weapons at the whales. At the time of the throws, the points did not separate from the shafts. The ropes tied to the harpoons quickly unwound, and the whales swiftly pulled the boats through the waves until they got tired. At that moment, the whales were finished off, but not with harpoons, but with the help of a spear, and this was done not by a harpooner, but by the whaleboat captain. Although, good harpooners were highly respected. In the North, hunters still find the remains of twisted tools of the 19th century in the bodies of whales.

Formation of harpoons

From the second half of the 19th century, whaling harpoons were replaced by harpoon cannons, which were invented by the Norwegian engineer Foyn. This invention made whaling less dangerous. Ordinary harpoons have evolved into spearguns. There was even a harpoon for a crossbow. However, these devices retained the main features of their "ancestors", namely, sharp tips with teeth, directed in the opposite direction, and cables that do not allow hunters to miss the catch.

The northern indigenous peoples still have the same tools as their forefathers. In general, harpoons are universal fishing tools. Despite the fact that the Aleuts or Chukchi have long possessed firearms, they still do not abandon the traditional methods and tools tested for centuries.

How to make a harpoon at home

At home, it will not be difficult to learn how to make a homemade harpoon, for example, for spearfishing. Typically, such devices consist of handles and tips. Before how to make a harpoon, it is advisable to prepare and purchase all the necessary materials.

To make a homemade harpoon at home, as an option, you will need the following items:

  • wooden stick;
  • A piece of polypropylene tube;
  • Clay;
  • Martens bandages;
  • Nails of medium size;
  • Threads;
  • Large nuts;
  • Vise;
  • Sandpaper;
  • File;
  • Hacksaws;
  • Electrical tape.

Initially, they begin to manufacture the harpoon itself. For this purpose, the nut is placed in a vise. At the same time, a wooden block is attached to the drill. Using medium speed, the bar must be inserted into the nut and rotated through it to achieve a round configuration.

Further, in the same way, using a scrollable drill, it is necessary to grind the wooden bar with sandpaper. Then nails are taken up to three units, hats are sawn off with a hacksaw, and two ends on each nail are sharpened with a file in order to achieve their maximum sharpness.

At one end of the bar, you need to wind the electrical tape, attach nails to it alternately with the help of a strong thread of fishermen. Then smaller bars are inserted between them and the stick so that the nails become at an angle. Fill the space between the nail and the bar for reliability with glue. Next, the junction of the nails is wrapped with electrical tape. Everything, the harpoon is ready.

Next, the main part is made to launch the harpoon. For this, a piece of martens bandage is cut off and glued to the polypropylene pipe from both edges. From above, this part, together with the contact point of the harpoon with the bandage, should be wrapped with several layers of electrical tape. Then the harpoon is attached with the help of fishing line or fishing thread to the launcher to hold the prey.

In practice, the pneumatic speargun is certainly popular. But for the manufacture of such a gun, a lot of things are needed. One sports club has found a solution, he uses a spring gun of his own design. They make an underwater gun with their own hands, it is not difficult at all, and most importantly, such a gun works flawlessly.

Before starting the robot for the manufacture of an underwater gun, it is necessary to purchase the necessary materials:
For a gun, buy a wire with a diameter of at least two mm. grades OVS, 65G or PK-for springs, you need up to 16 meters.
Duralumin tube, inner diameter 12.5-13mm. , it is necessary for the trunk.

The handle requires two 10 mm plates. each (it can be oak, nylon or aluminum plates).
A rod for a harpoon, the diameter of which is up to 1 cm, made of stainless steel.

How to make a speargun with your own hands step by step instructions

Begin, it is the most difficult. It is made on a special lathe, then heat treated and finally covered with an anti-corrosion coating. The length of the spring is measured based on the size of the barrel. It should be 20-30 cm longer than the length of the barrel, since after the first use of the gun, the spring will decrease by 5-10 cm.

On both sides of the trunk, we cut the thread, cut a gap 15-17 cm long under the sear. It is this length that regulates the strength of the gun and its battle when moving the handle along the barrel. After that, we make a hole in the trunk to get rid of water.

From duralumin we grind a muzzle together with a plug. In the latter we make a hole where we insert the harpoon. The barrel is ready, after which they begin to make the trigger and handle.

The handle is made from two separate plates. They are drilled to the original diameter of the finished trunk, and then the contours are cut out. Further, in each plate with a file, a slot is made up to 4 mm deep for the trigger mechanism.

The next operation is to make holes for the axis of the sear, spring and fuse. The halves in the handle are connected on the barrel and pressed with screws. A ring is placed on the front of the handle to avoid slipping along the barrel. The locksmith makes a trigger, a sear, a spring and a fuse, in a word, a trigger mechanism. He whispers hard. This completes the collection of the handle for the speargun.

The penultimate thing they do is a harpoon (see drawings of a harpoon for a speargun). The diameter in our case is 6 mm. For this, previously purchased stainless steel was used. Along the harpoon there is a sliding sleeve, and a line is attached to it. The bushing is made in such a way that it is cushioned by a fluoroplast ring, and rests against a special shank. The latter is designed to fix the harpoon. The tip is made simple - a flag with a wire to hold the fish. Sharpen it under several edges. The trick is that the sharp edges quickly cut through the fish scales.

And last of all, they make an easy thrower. It is carved from solid steel. The cut plate is attached to the plug on the barrel with two screws. When winding, the line is placed under the plate, and in the very center of the trunk it is attached to the front sight. When shooting, the line easily leaves the plate and unwinds.

Do-it-yourself underwater gun is ready, it must be tested in practice. A harpoon is inserted into the barrel and the spring is compressed to the level of its fixation with the sear. This is aided by a clicking sound that tells the speargun is ready and loaded. Press the trigger and the shooting starts. This gun is loaded only in water and unloaded too.

The underwater gun has sufficient lethal force, weighs about 3 kilograms and hits the target at a distance of up to 3 meters. When it is infected, it is quite noisy, just like when shooting. This is a drawback, but it is the only one. To reduce noise, the spring, as well as the barrel, are rubbed with glycerin.

Let's continue the topic of homemade weapons. This time we present to your attention an overview of the video on the manufacture of a powerful speargun.

So, we need:
- wooden block;
- a piece of polypropylene pipe;
- martens bandage;
- three medium nails;
- a thread;
- glue gun;
- screw;
- vice;
- sandpaper;
- hacksaw for metal;
- file;
- electrical tape.

Martens bandage can be purchased at any pharmacy. The people also call it a medical tourniquet, but this name is incorrect. Let's get started.

First you need to make the harpoon itself. To do this, take the nut and put it in a vise. According to the author of the idea, it is advisable to take a larger nut, since the harpoon will be thicker and more durable, but one should not overdo it so that the harpoon does not turn out too thick.

When the nut is clamped in a vice, insert the bar into the drill.

We begin to scroll the bar through the nut at medium speed, giving it a round shape.

In the same way, we process the resulting base for the harpoon with sandpaper.

Then we take three nails and saw off each hat with a hacksaw.

Now we take a file and sharpen that part of the nails from which the hats were sawn off. Then, with the same file, we sharpen the sharp parts of the nails so that they are sharper.

Next, take the electrical tape and wind it on the extreme part of the harpoon.

We attach one of the nails to the base of the harpoon with a thread. It should be noted here that the author of the homemade product recommends using a fishing thread, since it is stronger than ordinary threads.

After one nail is wound with a thread, we insert a piece of wood between the nail and the base so that the nail is at a slight angle.

We fix the nail with a small amount of glue from the glue gun so that it is secure. Similarly, we attach the remaining two nails to the structure.

To better fix the structure, you can wrap more tape over the nails. The harpoon is ready. Let's start manufacturing the main part for its launch.

Take a martens bandage and cut off a small piece.

The resulting piece must be attached to the polypropylene pipe on both sides. To do this, pour glue from a glue gun on one side of the pipe and attach a piece of martens bandage. We do the same on the other side.

We clamp it well and wind one layer of electrical tape.

Then we wind the thread and on top another layer of electrical tape. Thus, the installation for launching the harpoon is almost ready.

Novice spearfishers need to know how to make a homemade speargun. This can be done even without special skills, professional tools and precision equipment. There are several key varieties of an underwater gun, which differ primarily in the way they throw a damaging projectile - a harpoon. As an element that gives the striking projectile acceleration and communicates the energy necessary to overcome the resistance of water, a spring, a special rubber band, vacuum and pneumatics can act. In addition, hydropneumatic, powder, gas guns and even double-barreled shotguns are produced industrially and made by numerous home-made craftsmen. But since for the manufacture of most varieties it is necessary to have experience in such work, a variety of materials and drawings to maintain exact dimensions, you should know how to make the simplest home-made spear gun - an improved version of the so-called Hawaiian.

Novice spearfishing enthusiasts will be interested in a way to make a homemade gun without special skills, professional tools and precision equipment.

Appeared, as the name implies, on the islands of Oceania, the Hawaiians had an extremely simple device. Initially, they consisted of a pole with a harpoon tip and a rubber band with a diameter of 10-15 mm, rolled into a circle. Having hooked the rubber band on the thumb, the hunter with the back end of the pole pulled the rope back to the elbow, after which he grabbed the pole closer to the middle with the brush. After that, it remained only to aim and unclench the brush, so that the compressing rubber band would forcefully push the harpoon towards the target. However, the described method of catching fish is not very convenient for hunting, since keeping the harpoon in the “cocked” state requires constant arm tension. This shortcoming can be easily corrected without complicating the design in principle, but only by equipping the Hawaiian with a home-made trigger mechanism. Now about how exactly to make a gun for hunting under water - extremely easy to manufacture, effective and at the same time convenient to use.

In addition to sporting interest, making such a homemade product also makes economic sense, since a specialized hunting store will gladly offer you the simplest harpoon gun for the price of a crossbow. In addition, a tool made to your taste will allow you to enjoy both processes - manufacturing and hunting itself. Before you make your own speargun, you will need to stock up on the following:

  • an aluminum tube with an outer diameter of 10-15 mm and a length of 150 cm;
  • PVC tube 25-30 cm long, the inner diameter of which is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the aluminum tube;
  • rectangular steel skewer;
  • M4 bolt 20-25 mm long with a nut, metal and rubber washers;
  • M4 bolt 40-50 mm long;
  • a steel rectangle measuring 40 × 15 × 2 mm;
  • three self-tapping screws 70-100 mm long;
  • fishing rubber;
  • an annular rubber band;
  • kapron thread;
  • cutting boards with a thickness of at least 20 mm;
  • epoxy glue.

Also, in order to make a gun for hunting aquatic creatures with your own hands, you will need the following tools: a screwdriver, pliers, a hammer, a chisel, a vise, wrenches, a rasp, a drill, hacksaws for wood and metal.

In addition to sporting interest, making such a homemade product also makes economic sense, since a specialized hunting store will gladly offer you the simplest harpoon gun for the price of a crossbow

Separate a fragment 20 cm long from the skewer, clamp it in a vise so that 10-12 mm sticks out of the sponges, and bend the protruding section at a right angle. Having removed the resulting L-shaped part from the vise, bend it in the direction opposite to the short part of the letter “G” so that an arc is obtained - a sector of an imaginary circle with a diameter of 50 cm. Drill a hole of 4 mm in the middle of the part. In the center of the short tube, drill 2 opposite holes - with diameters of 5 and 4 mm and 2 - with a diameter of 5 mm 1 cm from the edge. Also, in a short tube at a distance equal to the length between the hole and the bend of the L-shaped part, make a transverse slot measuring 8 × 2.5 mm. A centimeter from the edge of the aluminum tube, drill 2 opposite holes of 8 mm, and then make a transverse slot measuring 8 × 2.5 mm in the center of the tube. From fishing rubber, make a tourniquet 1 cm thick, 40-45 cm long and rewind it tightly with nylon thread every 5 cm. From the board, cut out a round cork corresponding to the inner diameter of the long pipe and drill a longitudinal hole of 4 mm in it.

Shotgun assembly

Now, from the set prepared in this way, it is necessary to assemble a gun. To do this, fasten the L-shaped part with a short M4 bolt to the PVC pipe, inserting a rubber washer between them so that the short part of the L-shaped part falls into the cut in the pipe wall. The bolt head should not protrude above the inner surface of the tube wall, otherwise it will interfere with shooting. Additionally, secure the L-shaped part in the area of the cut with an annular rubber band.

Outwardly, this springy structure vaguely resembles a bicycle handbrake lever and simultaneously functions as a trigger and a sear - a part that serves to cock the weapon.

First, you need to cut out a wooden cork, after lubricating it with epoxy glue, insert it into the end hole of the aluminum tube. Then, weld 3 self-tapping screws on one side and an M4 bolt on the other to the metal plate in such a way that something like Neptune's trident is obtained, where the M4 bolt is the shaft of a trident. Lubricate the M4 bolt with epoxy. The resulting trident should be screwed into the hole in the wooden cork. Homemade harpoon is ready.

The aluminum tube must be inserted into the PVC tube, and a rubber band must be passed through the holes drilled in the aluminum tube with a diameter of 8 mm. The free ends of the bundle are inserted into holes with a diameter of 5 mm, drilled in a PVC tube, and carefully fixed there with a nylon thread. So, without having special qualifications, in a maximum of 1 hour you can make with your own hands an excellent attribute of outdoor activities - an underwater gun.

Do-it-yourself speargun (video)

Trial

To tension the rubber and prepare the gun for a shot, it is necessary to move the PVC tube, which acts as a cocking handle, forward to the harpoon tip, until a characteristic click indicates that the metal part that has fallen into the slots of both tubes has fixed the gun in the cocked state. Now pressing on the protruding arc of the metal part will disengage it from the harpoon and a shot will occur. Tests carried out in water show that from a distance of about 1 m, the harpoon confidently breaks through the wall of a plastic bottle filled with water, and it is quite difficult to remove it back because of the threads on the screws.

Conclusion

This is the simplest scheme of underwater weapons and the shortest instruction on how to make a speargun with your own hands. In addition to the method described, there are many more concepts and manufacturing methods. You can make, for example, a pneumatic gun in which the harpoon is driven by compressed air, a spring gun, etc.

You should be aware that homemade means for fishing under water, like any weapon, require careful adherence to safety rules when handling. There are more than enough cases of careless wounding of oneself with this weapon, and the time spent on recovery will be irretrievably lost for fishing, hunting and other healthy hobbies.
