Ship Model Kit Contents

Ship model Amerigo Vespucci has a stacked hull, so the kit contains all the necessary parts for this: frames, keel, decks and other frame elements. For two skins the required amount of material was given - thick linden laths for the first sheathing, and thin (0.5 mm thick) laths made of dark walnut for the second (the so-called finishing) sheathing. Round blanks for spars are made of ramin. In addition, the set includes slats made of very light and well-workable wood, balsa. Manufacturers also include a roll of fabric for sails in the kit.

Sailing frigate "Amerigo Vespucci" - one of the largest to date sailing ships. The frigate, built in 1931 (a reminiscence of a mid-19th century sailboat), is used as a training ship for cadets of the Leghorn Naval Academy of the Italian Navy. The ship is named after the Florentine discoverer Amerigo Vespucci, who compiled the first maps of the New World.

Until 1964, the frigate was equipped with a two-stroke six-cylinder engine, in 1964 it was replaced by two 4-stroke, 8-cylinder diesel engines. Also involved are two synchro generators of the electric motor, which drives a four-blade propeller.

A feature of the Amerigo Vespucci is the absence of electronic and hydraulic instruments on board the ship. In fact, apart from the engine, most of the equipment on board is manually operated.

Characteristics:

Year built: 1931
Shipyard: Castellammare di Stabia (Naples, Italy)

The stern or captain's bridge is owned by the captain and his guests and is decorated in the style of the 19th century or even earlier carracks and galleons.

All copper parts are polished to a mirror finish. The order on deck is perfect:

While the ship is running on diesel, one small steering wheel equipped with an electro-hydraulic transmission is used to steer the ship. The brass binnacle houses the traditional magnetic rudder compass and is adjacent to the gyro compass booster:

During the training of cadets, the sailboat is controlled by a quadruple steering wheel. Since the steering device is the simplest, without a gearbox or hydraulic booster, significant effort is required to shift the rudder, which is provided by up to 8 cadets (two for each steering wheel)

Amerigo Vespuccio uses manila hemp:

Life rafts are stored in cylindrical boxes on the open deck:

Bell. The rope is woven from laces in the colors of the Italian flag:

The braces that regulate the horizontal angle of the yards and sheets, which control the lower corners of the topsail, bramsail and bom-brassel, converge at the base of the masts, their ends are twisted into bays:

The wheelhouse on the elevation between the foremast and mainmast has a transparent top, protected from foreign objects by a special mesh:

Dedicated

In September 2004, crossing by regular boat with north side, I saw that there was a sailboat in the port. Real, not a decoration, albeit with lowered sails. It was striking, especially in contrast to the metal hulls of military ships.

-2-

Already at home, I looked in the news and found out that the Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian training ship for officers of the Leghorn Naval Academy, had come to us.

3-

The ship bears the name of the Florentine traveler (1454-1512), who compiled the first maps of the new continent, discovered by Christopher Columbus, and signed them with his own name. The figurehead of the ship reproduces the appearance of Amerigo Vespucci

4-

The length of the vessel with a bowsprit is 100.6 m, without it - 82 m (the bowsprit is such a long, as it were, "nose" on the bow of the vessel))). Steel body covered with wood.

5-

For many years he has been going on campaigns for training and exercises of the deck team, consisting of recruits - both boys and girls.

6-

"Amerigo Vespucci" was built in 1931 and is a reminiscence of a linear sailing steamer of the 50s-60s. nineteenth century,

7-

The stern or captain's bridge is owned by the captain and his guests and is decorated in the style of the 19th century

8-

It was possible not only to admire the sailboat from the port territory. It was open to the public, which many (including myself;) did not fail to take advantage of.

9-

The ship looks like a toy: clean, shining, polished. It seems that his wooden rig has absorbed the sun and radiates it.

10-

The abundance of ropes is striking.

11-

Very very impressive ;)

12-

Especially when you read later that of the total length - 30 km.

13-

And how neatly they are stacked! However, there is no other way. Near each rope you can see a sign with its name.

14-

Three of the four helms are in the wheelhouse on the poop deck. They are usually used in full sail voyages and require eight cadets to work at the same time.

15-

This handwheel is normally used when the engine is running. It is located in the forward compartment of the wheelhouse and is equipped with an electro-hydraulic transmission. The brass binnacle houses the traditional magnetic rudder compass and is adjacent to the gyro compass amplifier.

16-

Not knowing Italian, I could not translate this inscription. Google translator gave something like "not the one who starts, but the one who continues" ... hmm, what would that mean?

17-

Fire-fighting equipment.

18-

Speaking of masts, there are three of them: fore mast, main mast and mizzen mast. Under sail, the ship can reach speeds of up to 10 knots.

19-

Richly trimmed ship's lantern ХУII (above the boat) is removed when the ship is on the high seas.

20-

No, it didn't seem to you;) You really see the figure of a cadet.

21-

A visit is a visit, a visit is a visit, and a study is a study.

22-

From snippets of phrases, I realized that on that day, many of them passed tests. Therefore, visitors were asked not to look into the premises on the deck (although a glance could be seen cadets bending over the paper). Some of the guys rented out for a while climbing the masts on rope ladders in the presence of a coach and a senior officer.

23-

Spider-Man credit will be passed!

24-

Sunny Italian smiles.

25-

The girl is distracted from her studies and is watching the aliens. Sorry - visitors.

It's a starter ;)
From 23 to 27 August 2011 (after 7 years) Amerigo Vespucci will visit Sevastopol again. Do not miss!;)

Excerpt characterizing Amerigo Vespucci (ship)

“Well, Denisov is another matter,” answered Nikolai, making it feel that even Denisov was nothing in comparison with Dolokhov, “you need to understand what kind of soul this Dolokhov has, you need to see him with his mother, it’s such a heart!
“I don’t know about that, but I’m embarrassed with him. And do you know that he fell in love with Sonya?
- What nonsense ...
- I'm sure you'll see. - Natasha's prediction came true. Dolokhov, who did not like women's society, began to visit the house often, and the question of for whom he traveled was soon (although no one spoke about it) resolved so that he traveled for Sonya. And Sonya, although she would never have dared to say this, knew this, and every time, like a red tan, she blushed at the appearance of Dolokhov.
Dolokhov often dined with the Rostovs, never missed a performance where they were, and attended balls of adolescentes [teenagers] at Iogel, where the Rostovs always attended. He gave priority attention to Sonya and looked at her with such eyes that not only she could not stand this look without paint, but the old countess and Natasha blushed when they noticed this look.
It was evident that this strong, strange man was under the irresistible influence exerted on him by this black, graceful, loving girl.
Rostov noticed something new between Dolokhov and Sonya; but he did not define for himself what kind of new relationship it was. “They are all in love with someone there,” he thought about Sonya and Natasha. But he was not like before, deftly with Sonya and Dolokhov, and he began to be at home less often.
Since the autumn of 1806, everything again started talking about the war with Napoleon with even more fervor than last year. Not only a set of recruits was appointed, but also 9 more warriors out of a thousand. Everywhere they cursed Bonaparte with an anathema, and in Moscow there was only talk about the upcoming war. For the Rostov family, the whole interest of these preparations for the war consisted only in the fact that Nikolushka would never agree to stay in Moscow and waited only for the end of Denisov's vacation in order to go with him to the regiment after the holidays. The impending departure not only did not prevent him from having fun, but also encouraged him to do so. Most time he spent away from home, at dinners, parties and balls.
