Heating tent for winter fishing. Heating a fishing tent in winter

Our trip to Altai has ended. Since I am writing these lines, it means that I successfully survived it. And thanks in large part to the advice given to me by dear readers. The campaign turned out to be warm, or rather its daytime running gear. During the day, the sun, if not warm, then did not allow to die completely. But at night, starting actually from the first night, there was a noticeable frost. I am a cold person, but I think that everyone wants to spend the night warm)
So, how did we not freeze in the tent:

In the photo, our tent at the Stone Hut parking lot, at an altitude of 2700 meters

The first couple of nights were not very cold. There was a minus, but very small, although during the stop near the Akkem River, light snow fell. But these were all flowers compared to five nights at Belukha, on the shore of Lake Akkem. There, the night temperature was no higher than 8 degrees below zero. The dubak itself was at 10 degrees below zero. The surface of the lake was covered with ice, the bushes and grass were covered with a thick layer of hoarfrost. It was impossible to get out of the tent until 10 am, until the sun came out from behind the ridge and warmed the air. From the inside, the tent, or rather the awning, was also covered with a layer of frost. While you put on your shoes and get out of the vestibule - all white))
But the most important feat was going to the toilet at night. And try not to get out when four cups of evening tea are sitting in you .... At such moments, I could pass the standards for unfastening and zipping a sleeping bag and a tent)))

We solved the problem of insulation very simply. We bought synthetic sleeping bags with -4 comfort (in Barnaul it turned out to be a problem to buy something better) and took a third sleeping bag with us, which we covered from above. I will tell you that it was he who became the salvation from the cold. The rest of the heat, which could seep through the sleeping bags, was delayed by him.

The top of the tent was additionally covered with an awning, which in parallel protected the food packages. At night, some creature came and rustled the packages sooo loudly. Did not touch the meat, sausage. chocolates. cookies, and gnawed only black bread. It's a strange choice with such an assortment))

I put pants, fleeces on the mat - from the floor I felt such a good chill. But with clothes under the sleeping bag it was much more comfortable. Remains of clothes, a backpack. foam pop and other trifles lay against the wall of the tent - isolated a little cold air.

I slept in thermal underwear a couple of times, then mated and slept only in the upper part of it. He never wore socks - it seems like his legs would not rest a damn thing. But he always slept in a hat, and pulled the sleeping bag over himself so that only the piglet looked out. Usually you wake up in the morning, and the piece of the sleeping bag you breathed on was disgustingly damp...
In fact, we didn’t freeze at night, once when we pressed against the wall of the tent, and everything was very comfortable. It would be possible to additionally insulate the floor, put spruce branches or moss, but we decided not to do so. We also had a gas burner, but we never warmed up the air in the tent. Hot stones were not brought in either, although the idea was to try to do this for the sake of the experiment))

And now the actual advice, comprehended on own experience and tips from readers:

1. Need a warm sleeping bag. When choosing, look at the temperature of comfort, not extreme. There is a misconception that if the temperature is extreme -20. then you will be fine in it. Nevermind. This means that at -20 you have a chance to survive in such a sleeping bag, actively trembling with all limbs.

3. Insulate the bottom of the tent dry!!! moss or spruce branches

4. If it is very cold - sleep in a dry set of thermal underwear, warm socks and a hat. I would especially note the hat - the loss of heat from the sleeping bag is just from uncovered parts of the body - that is, your bowler hat)

5. Lies closer - the back of a friend is awesomely warm. It is easier to survive together in a tent than alone. Checked several times by the participants of the campaign)) Alone in a tent is not a warrior))

6. To maintain the temperature - catalytic heating pad in a sleeping bag. Bottle hot water will help for a couple of hours, and then it will terribly cool your body (checked!)

7. Carefully use an open fire such as burners and candles in a tent - it burns out instantly, clasping the burning plastic around the body .. Better not even try ..

8. Very Important keep the ventilation window open to allow the condensate to escape. Otherwise, all the moisture will settle inside the tent on things.

In principle, the main points are everything. If I forgot something - correct and supplement! Post will be updated

In the photo, our tent is in a forest on the shore of Lake Akkem. Light frost has already melted

For some winter night fishing - real romance. For others, it is a form of perversion. However, this article is not for them.

If you want to catch trophy specimens in winter and surprise everyone, you definitely need to go night fishing. With the right approach, you will return with large bream, burbot, pike, crucian carp, etc.

However, remember that winter fishing with an overnight stay in a pond can be life-threatening, and therefore requires utmost vigilance and caution. Recall that last year in Altai there was a tragic incident when two experienced fishermen died in a tent. The men set up a tent on the ice. And to keep warm, they lit a gas burner inside, and soon fell asleep. The next day they were found dead - the fishermen were poisoned by carbon monoxide.

To prevent this from happening, you need to choose the right tent and burner. About how to make winter fishing safe and as comfortable as possible, Komsomolskaya Pravda told chief angler Altai Territory Sergey Kazantsev.

How not to freeze and burn in the winter in a tent: advice from fishermen

Rule #1: You need the right winter tent

Winter tents differ from summer tents in that they do not have a bottom - this is necessary in order to drill a hole inside the tent. The main task of such a tent is to keep warm and protect from the wind.

Please note that the tent is equipped with a ventilation system - at least a valve at the top. Ideally, there should be forced ventilation - this is a special valve at the bottom. If there is none, then make such ventilation yourself, using an ordinary plastic pipe - put it between the wall of the tent and ice (snow). According to the laws of physics, cold air will be drawn into the tent, circulate with warm air and go up with combustion products, advises Sergey Kazantsev.

There are insulated winter tents that have several layers of insulated awning and a floor.

To be honest, I'm not exactly in favor of insulated tents. For me, it’s better that there is additional ventilation - this is a guarantee of safety. In addition, it is very important that the inner layer of the tent is not exposed to evaporation. I saw tents that were covered with frost from the inside ... You yourself understand that it will be problematic to warm up in it, - says the fisherman.

Rule number 2: Use a convector for heating

Almost all winter tents provide a place for a stove, which is accompanied by a hole for an exit for a pipe.

I tested a lot of different stoves, but I can say that they haven’t come up with a better one than a convector for heating a tent. As such, there is no open fire there - the burner is inside, and the combustion products go out through the pipe. This is very safe option. The convector itself works as a heater - the tent is heated with warm air, says Kazantsev.

The cost of such a convector is not great. Approximately 4-6 thousand rubles.

If you still decide to heat the tent with devices with an open fire - a gas burner, candles - do not place them close to the walls of the tent.

Rule #3: Carry a CO2 Gas Sensor

During heating, carbon monoxide accumulates in the tent. It has no smell or color, but it can kill a person. First, one feels unwell, attention is scattered, the head starts to hurt, then the person falls asleep and ... no longer wakes up. To monitor the gas level in the tent, take a CO2 sensor with you when you go fishing. If the gas level is exceeded, the sensor will emit loud signals, which will save lives. The cost of the sensor is about a thousand rubles.

Rule number 4: take a mobile bed with you

On winter fishing, in any case, you will want to sleep - fresh frosty air will do its job. In order not to catch a cold and catch pneumonia, take a mobile folding bed with you. Now there are a great many of them - they are very compact and can withstand heavy loads. The cost is from 2 thousand rubles.

Some take air mattresses with them. This is a big mistake! Believe me, you will freeze very hard on it. Warm up your body air cushion which inside the mattress will fail! Therefore, it is better not to experiment. If there is no folding bed, then take tourist sleeping mats made of isolon, inflatable mats and sleeping bags designed for winter conditions, an experienced fisherman advises.

A tent is an irreplaceable thing that allows the military, tourists, hunters and fishermen to hide from wind and rain. But what about the cold? After all, a tent will not save him from it, it is the same as a house without heating, which will cool down in a short time. In this article, we will present several reliable methods that have proven themselves in practice. We will consider methods, guided not only by safety and good heat dissipation, but also by the types of tents themselves.

Briefly about the types of shelters

Along with the need of fishermen for shelter from wind and precipitation, the question arose of heating the tent in winter while fishing. Indeed, sit in it in hard frost without a source of heat, it's like being outdoors. Roughly speaking, your clothes will just keep you warm. And if fishing is long, and sometimes requiring the presence of an angler in such conditions for a day or two? You will definitely have to take care of heating, but attention should also be paid to the tents themselves.

The simplest shelter of this type is a one-man construction consisting solely of waterproof fabric and pegs. It can be with or without floor. Later, versions with a wire frame were invented: the wire is driven into special stitched sections, and the assembled tent itself is simply stuck into the ground. And then there are already tents with windows, zippers and even hallways. There were designs equipped with suspensions for lamps and sewn from special materials that allow you to keep warm longer. Again, this heat must be taken somewhere. What are we leading to. Tents without floors allow you to put them where, for example, you have a hearth arranged in advance. Shelter with a floor will either have to be cut so that the earth sticks out, or use another means of heating.

Sources of heat and light allow you to see the angler from afar - a good reference point, for example, for a winter team.

If a fire burns inside the tent, then, of course, smoke will go - you need a type of shelter with an exit hole. The skill of lighting a smokeless fire is all the same, although it will help, but the waste will still not go anywhere. We will present two sections: heating winter tent, which stands directly on the ice and shelters installed on the shore.

On ice

And let's start with a complex procedure. Firstly, you can’t dig the same hearth on ice, you won’t make a fire for a long time, and secondly, fishermen often make trips hundreds of meters from the coast - they won’t carry firewood supplies to their place, which should be enough for several hours . It is clear that you should not rely on bonfires - other means will be required.

Kerosene lamp. Accordingly, you will need to take with you the lamp itself, kerosene and a spare wick. It gives off light and warmth. For those who are still the owner of this rarity from the distant times of the USSR, there will be no problems. For a winter tent, this device is relatively safe, the advantages are as follows:

  • reliability;
  • economy;
  • the ability to use both in tents with floors and without floors;
  • the fire is covered with glass;
  • a faint odor is emitted.

IMPORTANT! Representatives of the younger generations may ask themselves the question: “And if it accidentally falls and all the kerosene pours out, will it be a fire?” No, kerosene lamps, firstly, are difficult to knock over even by accident, and secondly, kerosene does not spill out when it falls.

There is no one more resourceful fishermen! And we catch and warm ourselves. By the way, just like in the photo, it’s better not to install candles, it’s still all right on the ice.

It’s not worth pouring a lot of fuel, there is literally less than half - if only the wick reaches the liquid and soaks. Kerosene stoves have not been produced for a long time, but they can be found in the following places:

  • shops like "Antiques";
  • "Household goods" - very rarely found literally by the piece;
  • your own attic or basement - you never know, left from the ancestors;
  • open markets, where mostly pensioners sell sometimes useful, albeit old utensils. In the people, such sellers are called "junk dealers".

Suppose there is a lamp, kerosene is sold in the departments of varnishes, paints and solvents, but with wicks the question is different. Previously, they were sold separately, when kerosene stoves themselves were still relevant. Some were made from natural fabric, folded in several layers and sewn together.

Household candle. Here you don’t need anything at all, just take a couple of candles with you and light it. On double tent one piece will be enough. It will seem that the light is too small, but the fact remains - after a while it will become warm, almost like at home. You will need a small outlet.

IMPORTANT! The fire of a candle is not covered by anything, and a simple candlestick is much easier to drop than the same kerosene lamp (the area of \u200b\u200bthe kerosene lamp is much larger). A reliable candle installation is required. By the way, a kerosene stove without a wick can be easily equipped with your own hands for the installation of household candles by drilling a hole for the wick. And a stand with a handle, and nothing needs to be poured, and a glass fence.

You can take a primus stove with you - at the same time it will be possible to cook food, for example. Fishermen are advised to buy such devices manufactured by Coleman. But there is a drawback: ordinary gasoline from a gas station is prohibited for use, the device immediately deteriorates. You need the appropriate fuel called "Kalosha".

An interesting thing is a homemade burner with a copper heating element. It is difficult to make such a heater yourself without having all the necessary tools at hand.

Primuses are best used in large four-seat tents, the height of which is at least 150 centimeters. These are the safety requirements for the shelters themselves, rather than for the means of heating.

Gas lamps and burners are also a worthy option, but again it's about fuel. It is required to stock up on cylinders with high-quality gas and not save. Canisters refilled with a household type of fuel cannot be used. As experienced "survivors" say, equipment deteriorates from it. By the way, we take high power burners, somewhere under 2000 watts (2 kW).

Burner with hose to cylinder. And yes, KOVEA produces decent products for tourists.

Heater - tourist heater, which also works on gas cylinders. As many users of such devices note, this equipment often stops working in severe frosts.

Still, candles and kerosene burn out much less oxygen, despite the fact that they are able to heat the shelter well in winter, but the infrared gas heater, which is an ordinary ceramic tile, occupies the leading position.

On the shore

On the shore, the fisherman has more opportunities, especially if there is firewood nearby. The methods described above, of course, do not disappear anywhere - on ice or on the ground, there is no difference. You can make fires on the shore - some people make big fires near the shelter, you can build a hearth right inside the tent, which we have already mentioned. But there are two nuances here:

  • you need to dig a hole in the frozen ground - problematic;
  • you need to clean the snow under the entire tent as much as possible, otherwise the fire will melt it - a lot of water.

Ways to make things easier:

  • build a fire, remove it and dig out the softened earth;
  • dig holes in places of interest to you before winter and mark them with something, otherwise they will notice;
  • build a small brazier, put a refractory litter under it and make a hearth in it, without digging or cutting anything in the floor (if any).

Heating a tent in winter can harm even the fishing itself, this applies to the use of products that run on gasoline or kerosene. If the fisherman decided to heat the shelter with just such devices, then he should remember: the corresponding one can fall into his hands. This is highly undesirable, because when working with gear, the smell will get into the water - the fish will feel it and stop pecking. To heat the tent, fishermen also make special tin stoves with their own hands, similar to a small chest equipped with a refractory stand. Such an oven is made very simply:

  1. A tin sheet is taken, the outlines of an unfolded box without a front are applied to it.
  2. In the upper, back and side parts, holes are drilled with a 2-3 mm drill.
  3. Holes for hinges are drilled from the entrance side.
  4. The box folds up.
  5. A door of such a size is made of tin so that it tightly closes the container, it is possible that it can enter the inside of the furnace when closing. A window is cut out in it to make it more convenient for you to follow the fire and two holes for loops.
  6. We put the hinges, you can attach them with rivets or bolts. We attach the door.

According to this drawing, the master will easily make a simple and reliable stove for heating.

Everything, a simple stove is ready. You can lay firewood, small stones of coal - there will be more heat. The only drawback is that the tent will have to be ventilated during burning or to make an exhaust hood with a pipe, which is too cumbersome.

Yes, there are many other ways to heat tents, full of various life hacks, but in most cases, guided by such methods, you will have to carry a lot with you. There is a way without fumes and smells at all, however, it can only be used on the shore - you need a fire, and you will need large stones or red bricks. The number of "heaters" depends on the tent. A fire is made, heat accumulators are heated in them, a refractory is placed in the tent, and bricks or stones are transferred to the shelter. The heat transfer time in this case, of course, depends on the temperature.

A month ago, I would have said that this is simply impossible for me, a mega-heat-loving creature. It was scary, I was waiting for the night with horror. Two foams under me, and below - only snow, a sleeping bag, thin cotton underwear: in my opinion, I should have frozen to death.

Morning has come:

I’ll tell you how it was, how, in principle, we settled down for the night, what secrets of winter sleep in nature I learned and all this, of course, will be accompanied by my photo illustrations.

Having found a worthy place for parking, the first thing the men began to put up was a tent that would protect us from the wind and we would spend the night in it.

To be honest, I had a vague idea of how it would all turn out. Fantasy drew me a potbelly stove in the middle of the tent, everyone around was lying side by side, while under each there were ten foams plus three sleeping bags and on top - a couple more blankets. And most importantly, spend the night in outerwear and completely hiding with your head in your warm "house".

The reality turned out to be quite different.

After we fried the barbecue, had dinner and began to nod off, it was time to go to bed. To do this, they began to pitch ... tents in the tent!

At the bottom of each, they put one layer of household insulation (such a foam with foil) and one more foam each - ordinary, tourist, thick.

We were given a sleeping bag. ONE! I looked and realized that everything is the end for me.

The organizers strictly said - two things must be done, which seemed completely illogical to me, a beginner.

1. Strip down to thin clothing (such as thermal underwear)

2. Do not climb into the sleeping bag with your head and do not breathe there IN ANY EVENT!

Now I understand that everything was correct. And that's why.

1. While we were putting up tents, carrying things, etc., we were sweating and it became hot. When you lie down and stop moving, the body lowers the temperature and sweat (respectively - wet clothes) becomes icy, dampness appears in the sleeping bag and it will be simply unrealistic to warm up. Dry thin clothes warm the body, especially since we heat the air inside the sleeping bag with the same heat, creating a very comfortable microclimate.

2. When we get into the sleeping bag with our head and start breathing there, we exhale not only air into it, but also the moisture of our body. After a while, there will be such dampness inside that it will be unbearable to sleep from the dog's cold. Dryness is the key to warmth. If the face is cold, then it can be covered with something separately. For example, like me - a towel. A couple of hours later I was shocked - this very towel could be wrung out, it was so wet. And if I exhaled all this "inside", then my night would turn into hell.

In the photo, our assistant, a stove, is filled with gasoline and she blows warm air into the tent. Personally, my opinion is that it does not help much, except to keep the air dry.

In the morning I woke up with surprise - all night - as if killed, it was comfortable and ... WARM. Fantastic. It doesn’t happen like that ... but - it was! It seemed to me a miracle.

So nothing is impossible. We deprive ourselves of much of the pleasure of this wonderful life by our fears. The brush and paints are in our hands, it is quite possible to color everyday life.

This trip with Watermap completely shook my brain, pulled me out of my comfort zone, made me freer. This changes the mind, that's for sure.
