Nha Trang area for recreation. Districts of Nha Trang. In which area of Nha Trang is it best to choose a hotel for recreation, and in which to stay for a long time

Here I have tried to collect the most frequently asked questions and answer them.
You can clarify something or ask your question in our section "Questions of tourists",
and also to me on whatsapp / viber +84916973542 or social networks (type Dmitry Vietnam in the search)

? We watched the weather forecast, is it always raining in Nha Trang?

Weather forecasts for Nha Trang are inadequate, as the sensors are located in the mountains. The best time to visit Nha Trang is from March to September. From October to February the weather is not so good anymore, the waves and rains are not so comfortable temperature water. And November-December-January is better not to rest in Nha Trang. This does not mean that we will have rain every day, it happens in different ways. But there will never be perfect weather.

? Help choosing a hotel in Nha Trang?

I'll help. The scheme is like this. With a probability of 99%, you fly on a tour, and do not fly in yourself, buying tickets separately and booking a hotel. This means that you will choose hotels from the list of a specific tour operator, for specific dates. And each time it can be a different selection of hotels. So it makes no sense for me to write some names before you look at the list of hotels on the website of the tour operator with which you will fly, for your exact date.
The next point is the price. Everyone has it different possibilities. My opinion is that it is better to spend more on the holiday itself (excursions, food, shopping) than to invest in a hotel where you will come, by and large, only to spend the night. Therefore, it is worth choosing hotels not by name, but by a price tag that is acceptable to you personally. And now, within a certain price level, you write out 3-5 names, and send them to me, and I advise, based primarily on the location. Even if you choose a last minute tour, there is always 5 minutes to beacon me on whatsapp / viber and get real information. The vast majority of hotels I have seen personally.
A very common question about hotels is about sockets. Our outlets are standard.
And about the passport - they will ask for it and will keep it at the reception as a deposit. Don't worry, it's safe. For me, this is better than pledging $100 or freezing it on the card.

? How much money do you need to take to Vietnam?

Dollars are the best. Large bills (50 and 100 usd) are exchanged a little more expensive than small ones. Small ones are not needed at all in Vietnam, all payments are in dong. Old banknotes (gray) in most cases change in the same way as new ones (green), there are no problems. It is better to exchange dollars in jewelry stores and travel agencies, the rate is the same as in banks (only those are not located in the tourist center and ask for a passport). The exchange rate for July 2017 is approximately 22.650 dong per dollar. If you have euros, you can also take it, you can change it in every second exchanger. You should not take rubles, only if, in extreme cases, the exchange rate is very unfavorable. I periodically help out my tourists, exchange their rubles for dollars at the exchange rate of the Central Bank, and for excursions I accept payment in rubles in cash or on a Sberbank / Alpha card. If so, keep that in mind.

? How to convert dongs to rubles to understand how much it costs?

The simplest thing is to multiply by 2.7 (1 dollar in the Russian Federation costs 60 rubles, and in Vietnam 1 dollar is equal to 22.65 thousand dongs - that's where this coefficient comes from). Don't laugh, you don't need a calculator. After all, you only need to multiply the price in dongs by exactly 3, and then subtract a tenth. So it turns out that multiplied by 2.7. For example, I very often invite my tourists to have dinner together and try a chic soup that costs 25,000 dong (such prices for street food). We multiply by 3 (75) and subtract a tenth (7.5) - we get the price of the soup about 67 rubles.

? Do I need to take a local sim card?

In 95% of cases, you do not need it - here we have Wi-Fi in every hotel and cafe. Whatsapp and viber work without sim card. Very often people write that they cannot beacon on whatsapp - they cannot find the desired number on the phone. It just needs to be done right. For example, my number +84916973542 must first be saved as a contact. And after 5 minutes (not immediately) you will find it in WhatsApp / Viber / Telegram. Often local numbers written like this: 0916973542 (this is my number again, no longer in the international format). You can call this way, but you won’t find it in the programs, so it’s better to immediately save it in the international format, including the + sign, don’t forget to put it. Since +84 is the country code for Vietnam.
When you still need local sim card(calls to elderly parents), you can buy Viettel or Vinafone (now, when buying, they already require the original passport). The price with a good internet package is 140 thousand VND, with the possibility of voice calls 170 thousand VND. You can do this at travel agencies. But I repeat once again - almost everyone has enough Wi-Fi.

We were told on the bus from the airport that tomorrow we must definitely meet with the hotel guide for registration, give the voucher. And he will give information about the return flight. This is true?

Here attention! This is all complete, absolute lies.
You arrive in a new country, and, of course, you believe what the representative of the tour operator tells you. This is what they use. The only purpose of such a deception and the only purpose of the meeting is the sale of excursions there in the style of "only here and now."
Remember! No additional registration required! None at all! All information about you has long been in the system. It is often said that new registration rules have just come into effect - be aware that this is a ruse. All these vouchers are filkin's letters, the guides at the meeting do not need them, no one takes them. Walking around the city, you do not need to have ANY documents with you, the police never stop tourists. We don't have a concentration camp here! Tour operators intimidate you in every possible way just so that you don’t get away from them.
You will not receive any information about the return flight at the meeting either. You will be told that the leaflet with the time of departure will be posted on the eve of voooot there. And that's all. And the best seats on the flight (where there is more legroom) will sell for $70 per seat.
For this reason, there is no free or online check-in for flights from Nha Trang to Russia, it was done on purpose.
To go or not to go to a useless meeting is up to you. It usually lasts an hour and a half, do not think that you will get off quickly.
The most important thing is that it will not just be a presentation of the tour operator's excursions (that would be fine), but again a deception, and on all counts.
They will tell you that your insurance with other travel agencies does not work, this is not true. They will tell you that it is supposedly more expensive to go to Winpearl on your own, and the food is expensive, and the taxi back is very expensive, and they will also say that they carry on those days when there are no Chinese. This is not true from beginning to end. You don’t need excursions to Winperl at all, everything is simple and clear there.
You will be told that Dalat is only good for two days, and the most interesting excursion is Saigon (these are expensive excursions). You must understand that the guide receives a percentage of the sale of excursions. All, absolutely all the information that you will hear from the hotel guide is aimed at selling their programs and today. If their excursions are not needed, the meeting does not make sense at all, your absence will have no consequences. In my memory for 6 years, none of the tourists have yet been left in Vietnam, there were no overlays. Don't be afraid to skip a meeting if you don't want to waste your time (according to statistics, up to half of tourists don't go to it). Help later (if anything, just in case) from hotel guides is usually a little, they kick back for a sweet soul. Read the internet on this subject. In general, with them it is necessary to behave directly according to the wise proverb "do not believe, do not be afraid, do not ask." And don't go if you value your time. This is my personal opinion and you decide.

? How much money to take with you on vacation? How much does it cost to eat in a cafe?

Everyone's budget is different, but there is such a life-tested formula for a good rest - $ 50 per day per person. Take more, in case you see something interesting, as well as for unexpected expenses. Take mostly cash, take cards too, but in reserve. There are many ATMs, but the commission is often rather big, without a commission (of a Vietnamese bank) you can withdraw money only at MB Bank ATMs.
For food, the price tag is about the same. The lowest limit (Vietnamese street food, which I personally love) is 1-2 dollars per serving. Rice with meat/vegetables, noodles with meat/vegetables, various soups. Now we are talking about eateries where the Vietnamese themselves eat, these are not tourist places. Fortunately, Nha Trang is a very convenient resort in this regard - there is no tourist ghetto, hotels and all infrastructure are located in an authentic environment, and you can always eat Vietnamese, if you wish. And in tourist places, dishes cost from 3-5 dollars and more. The Vietnamese themselves prefer to eat seafood in special restaurants with a bunch of basins with live sea food. Follow their example. At least once again go to the "buffets" that are now popular in Nha Trang - a seafood buffet for $ 10-12 per person, while you will fry everything at your table. All payments in Nha Trang (except excursions) are made in dongs. Do not let the Vietnamese themselves get the "necessary" banknotes out of your hands, do not be afraid to seem slow. Pay only after you have exactly figured out the denomination of banknotes and agree with the bill.

Do I need to do any vaccinations before the holidays? What is the most to be feared? What are the general safety rules?

No vaccinations are required. But it is better to take a first aid kit with you, with proven medicines for poisoning, headaches, colds, and allergies. Here's what's causing the most trouble:
- Sun!!! No matter how much you tell tourists that our sun is very cruel, it's all useless. Are burning down. The extra half an hour can be very critical. Panthenol is sold with us, but it will not return a few days of spoiled rest.
- Unwashed hands and fruit!!! Everyone, like fire, is afraid of low-quality ice (very rarely, in fact, I observed problems with it in cafe-restaurants), but they forget to wash their hands and fruit. The virus can knock you out of normal life for five days, so be strict with yourself in this matter.
- Seafood "grandmothers" on the beach/street. Do you want to play Russian roulette for severe poisoning? Avoid walking pots with beautiful crabs and lobsters (these are not lobsters, as everyone here mistakenly calls them). All this was bought on the market YESTERDAY in a state of substandard for a penny, and sometimes you are called the initial price of 500 thousand dongs per lobster. You are proud that you brilliantly bargained it for 100, but you don’t know that it was bought for 30 (!), and even more so you don’t know that in this moment stronger - spices or cadaveric poison. Don't take risks.
- Do not ride rickshaws, they are scammers. It is extremely rare to hear successful stories of rides, usually all as one - “divorce”. First they say one price (20-50 dong), and then it turns out that you "misunderstood", and the price is actually 200-500 dong. A very unpleasant and unnecessary situation for you, and the pleasure of riding in any case is so-so.
- Do not carry a handbag on your shoulder(only over the head and on the chest), do not hold the phone relaxed in your hands, and in general, the less money with you, the better. Never unnecessarily carry your passport with you (the fact that it was taken to the reception is normal, do not worry). Do not show how much money you have with you when making payments, and do not carry a lot with you, again. They can envy you and set thieves on a motorbike at you. They are not found. I don't want to scare you, but a little vigilance can't hurt.
- Drink in the evening on the beach in good company and swim? Good idea if there is someone to guard your things. As soon as you come to the beach, you are already being watched (sometimes they communicate with you, smile). But the goal is the same - phone and money. If you don't want to lose them, either don't take them with you, or don't swim, or leave someone to look after them.

Do Vietnamese understand Russian? English? How to communicate with them? It is worth bringing something from Russia to the reception, maybe they will give a better number?

In Nha Trang, there are a huge number of signs / inscriptions / menus in Russian, and there are Russian-speaking Vietnamese, but the vast majority of the staff with whom you will contact speak neither Russian nor English. It makes no sense to pronounce words loudly and wave your arms, act smarter. Hotels always have Wi-Fi, use online translators for simple words, but in general, pictures are always better. Pictures are always clear to everyone, save what you need in advance in the phone’s memory, and always show them on the street / in the store, and do not pantomime. It just makes life easier.
Be prepared for the fact that the waiter does not even know the words “glass”, “salt”, “sugar”, that is, the basics, in English. The fact is that grassroots personnel are often recruited from the surrounding villages, what kind of English is there.
There is an opinion that the Vietnamese like Russian chocolate, and if you smile at the reception and give a chocolate bar, they will give you good number. This is wrong. The myth about chocolate comes from the fact that the Vietnamese, who studied in the USSR, miss our products, including chocolate. But there are few of them, and their level is not the reception desk. The attitude towards Russian tourists is not what it was ten years ago. It's commonplace now, conveyor belt, so don't have high expectations. As for the numbers, they simply will not understand you, they will miss the words about the “best” room, especially, more often, and there is not much choice. A powerful ally in communicating with the Vietnamese is humor, they are always ready to laugh and joke, use a smile as a means to an end. And presents from Russia are much more in demand by Russians living in Nha Trang. By making friends with them, you will get more practical advice about the rest, as they better imagine the tastes and preferences of our tourists.

? Is it worth it to buy alcohol in duty free or is there no problem with it in Nha Trang?

If you like high-quality alcohol, it is better to buy in a dutik. Unfortunately, fakes of popular brands of alcohol are often found in Vietnam. I got myself pretty sick once when I bought some good whisky. There are few stores with a decent choice, there is no 100% guarantee against fakes anywhere, and local alcohol, no matter what they say about it, is still not so good. So to speak, for the test, such a "holiday" option. And, looking ahead, I’ll say that I consider it an unreasonable waste of valuable baggage weight to take local alcohol from Vietnam to Russia as a gift. Well, he's not worth it.

? Our tour includes a free sightseeing tour of Nha Trang. What is this tour?

This is not a tour. Under the guise of a "latex factory", "tea house", "clothes factory", "jewelry factory" you are tritely taken to shops located in remote areas (so that you do not run away, having understood what is the matter). The prices there are very high, very high! Otherwise, why make this trip free? They take a long time. Plus 1-2 attractions in the style of "running". Now, in the age of the Internet, when all information is open, it is very strange to look at people in huge tour operator buses, who are driven by a herd, like, excuse me, sheep, and, of course, “sheared”. The reason is in the sweet word "freebie", magical for the ear of a Russian person. Sometimes, even realizing that this is a "scam", tourists still decide to "ride" around the city for free without buying anything. In fact, you still pay, losing almost wasted a day of rest, and with it the money that this day costs as part of your tour. Compare this shopping spree with the unique and rich itinerary of my Real Nha Trang tour, which ($25) pays for itself in just a few days thanks to the information it provides.

? We arrive for a period of more than 15 days. Need to get a visa?

Yes, if your stay in Vietnam is more than 15 days (calendarly, both the day of arrival and the day of departure are considered, and not days of stay), you need a visa. Everything is written in detail in the next article about visas, here I will only say that it is quick and easy. A visa for citizens of the Russian Federation is put in the passport at the airport of arrival FREE OF CHARGE if there is a special Invitation (I do it if necessary), a completed application form (the form is on the website with a sample filling) and two photos 4 by 6, color, on a white background (in reality, they take almost any size and one). Tourist visas are single (single entry) and multi (multiple entry), for a month and for three. A multivisa is needed if you definitely decide to go somewhere else, except for Vietnam (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Hong Kong), and then return to the country.

We really want to go to Cambodia, see Angkor Wat. How to do it? Where else can you fly from Nha Trang?

From experience, 99% of issues on Cambodia are removed from the agenda instantly. The fact is that going to Cambodia is either expensive (by plane, and there is no direct flight from Nha Trang), or long (by bus). It simply does not fit into the framework of a regular tour to Nha Trang for 12-13 days either in terms of budget or timing. Unless, of course, Angkor Wat is not the goal of the whole trip (this happened). This does not prevent travel agencies from offering excursions to Cambodia, but almost no one takes them. If you really don’t want to sit in Nha Trang (for example, you got into a bad weather strip), it’s much more interesting and cheaper to fly direct flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur (the last flight is completely new, it starts in September of this year). Not to mention the fact that in winter it is easier and cheaper to escape from bad weather in Nha Trang neighboring resort Mui Ne (Phan Thiet). By bus for $6. Do not forget that you will need a visa to travel abroad as part of your tour package to Nha Trang to re-enter Vietnam. This issue is resolved 4-5 days in advance, I can help, so nothing dramatic, you just need to remember about it.

Have a nice rest!

Nha Trang is a popular tourist destination in Vietnam. The population of 300,000 of this city during the winter months increases significantly due to the whole army of tourists, many of whom are in no hurry to leave Nha Trang, which provides excellent opportunities for beach, active and cultural recreation.

Story

With a busy harbor, bustling shopping streets and a beach dotted with tanned bodies, it's hard to believe that for several centuries this place was a real backwater where life barely glimmered in squalid fishing villages. Although, on the other hand, here it was possible to find something interesting. Thanks to the thickets of cinnamon and scarlet trees in ancient times, this area was known as the "Land of Fragrances".

The emergence of the first settlement in the Nha Trang region is associated with the history of the state of Champa, whose inhabitants appreciated the merits of the local bay, surrounded by mountains and sheltered from the sea by a natural “breakwater” of numerous islands. The future Nha Trang for a long time remained the main sea gate of Champa and the capital of Kautara, one of the principalities that made up this state. In the 17th century the growing state of Dai Viet finally reached Nha Trang, where a new people, the Viet, settled from now on. The modern name of the city comes from the Cham name of the nearby river Kai - Yachang. In 1653, the shores of Nha Trang Bay officially became part of the Vietnamese state, after which this harbor was forgotten for a long time. At the beginning of the 20th century, the territory of the modern city was part of the Annam Protectorate.

In 1924, the Governor-General of French Indochina declared Nha Trang by his decree to be something like an "urban-type settlement" that unites several nearby villages. A military garrison and an office of the postal department appeared in Nha Trang. At the same time, the town of Gien Khanh, 10 km from Nha Trang, was considered the main city of the region: it was here that the residence of the imperial governor of the province, who personified the "power" of the nominally reigning Nguyen dynasty, was located. In 1937, Nha Trang was granted the rights of an urban commune, which remained with him until the very end of the colonial era. In 1958, the South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem divided the city into two independent entities - East Nha Trang and West Nha Trang. Subsequent governments of the Republic of Vietnam periodically redrawn the map of the city until the offensive of the DRV troops on April 2, 1975 put an end to this administrative leapfrog. In March 1977, a decree of the government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam raised the status of Nha Trang to the level of a district center within the province of Fukhanh. And in July 1989, Vietnam appeared as part of new province Khanh Hoa, whose capital is Nha Trang. Today, the power of the local municipality extends over 250 sq. km. In addition to urban areas, Nha Trang includes numerous coastal islands and rural areas with a population of 200 thousand people.

Location and transport

Nha Trang is "strung" on highway number 1, which crosses it from north to south. Urban areas stretch along the shores of a spacious bay of the South China Sea. In its northern part there is a wide outlet to the open sea, and a group of picturesque islands can be seen a little further to the south. Under their cover, 3 km south of Nha Trang, the seaport of Kauda is located. (Cau Da Dock) separated from the city by a low rocky ridge. The port simultaneously serves cargo ships and tourist boats: boat trips to the local islands start from here. bay depth (up to 200 m) allows you to take even large-capacity cruise liners.

home tourist area Nha Trang is centered around the intersection of Biet Thu streets (Biet Thu St.) and Hung Vuong (Hung Vuong St.). The long street of Hung Vuong runs parallel to the beach at a distance of one block from it. Most of the hotels in Nha Trang are located here and are within walking distance of the beach, which stretches for 6 km and is considered the longest municipal beach in the country. Directly along the shore of the bay is the picturesque promenade of Tran Fu (Tran Phu St.). The fashionable Vinpearl hotel and resort complex has taken refuge on the Bamboo Island closest to the city (Honche, Hon Tre) and is connected to the mainland by a cable car on high towers. The trailers leave for the island from the station located in the port next to the piers of cruise boats.

Most of the guests come to Nha Trang from the south on open-tour buses, which make a stop near the branch of "their" company in the tourist area of the city. The city also has a railway station and a small airport. At the same time, all flights are operated through Cam Ranh Airport, located 40 km south of Nha Trang. The city airport is connected to Cam Ranh by a "shuttle" bus. (VND 30,000). Lienting Bus Station (Ben Xe Lien Tinh) located next to Long Son Pagoda, half a kilometer west of railway station.

For quick movement around the city, it is most convenient to use motorized cabs. (about VND 10,000 within city streets) and rickshaws. When paying for a sea trip or a dive trip, you can be sure that the travel agency will organize free delivery of customers to the port and back to the hotel. By the way, if you are going to leave Nha Trang by bus, the stop of which is far from your shelter, you can also ask the company that sold the ticket to pick you up from the hotel. Renting a motorbike will cost from 5 - 7 USD (VND 80,000 - 110,000) in a day.

Climate

The average annual air temperature in the Nha Trang region is 26 °C. The temperature difference between winter and summer is practically not felt here. It rains mainly from mid-May to mid-September. From mid-October to the end of March, the dry season continues, when air humidity drops to a minimum. The only thing that can spoil the weather in Nha Trang during the dry season is a storm that suddenly comes up from the sea, accompanied by strong winds.

Sights of Nha Trang

In the morning, before the asphalt begins to melt from the heat, you can go to the southern suburbs of the city to visit the villas of Emperor Bao Dai and the Oceanographic Institute, which are located about 6 km from the tourist district along Highway No. 1. The villas are located a little closer to the urban areas (visit 2000 VND). Part of the territory of the former imperial residence is occupied by the Bao Dai Villas Hotel (accommodation 25 - 70 USD). The Oceanographic Institute was founded in 1923 by the ubiquitous French. Institute collection open to the public (ticket 10,000 VND, 7.30-12.00/13.00-16.30), has 100 thousand samples of tropical marine fauna, including 30 thousand species of fish, 500 species of algae, 700 species of crabs and many other inhabitants of the South China Sea. The institute's field base is the Honmun Island Marine Reserve, one of the first four such reserves in the world.

After lunch, you can take a short walk around the city. Walk along the beach from the tourist quarter to the square in the center of Nha Trang. There is a monument dedicated to the capture of the city by units of the People's Army in April 1975. Le Thanh Ton Street goes northwest from the square (Le Thanh Ton St.), in the perspective of which you will soon see the silhouette of the city's cathedral. Topped with a 38-meter tower, the basilica was built on an artificially cut hilltop in 1928-1935. Although the main building material of the temple was prosaic reinforced concrete, the building looks very picturesque. Three bells suspended on the belfry of the cathedral were made by the famous French company Bourdon-Carillon and consecrated in 1934-1939. You can enter the cathedral from Nguyen Chai street. (Nguyen Trai), although the main facade faces Thai Nguyen Street (Thai Nguyen St.) leading past the train station to Lang Son Pagoda (Pagoda Linh Son).

This Buddhist temple is located on the slope of the green hill of Taithui, only 400 meters from the cathedral. The first small shrine was built here in 1886 and was located on the top of a hill, where the 14-meter statue of the seated Buddha now stands. A staircase of 152 steps leads to the statue. In 1900, the temple was destroyed by a typhoon and subsequently "descended" to the foot of the hill. Both monuments can be visited from sunrise to sunset (the entrance is free). On the territory of the pagoda is a hall of memory of South Vietnamese Buddhists, monks and lay people who sacrificed themselves in protest against the policies of President Ngo Dinh Diem in the early 1960s.

From the pagoda gate, you can take se om and get to the northern part of the Chang Fu embankment (Tran Phu St.), where at number 10 is the museum of A.E. Yersin. A student of Louis Pasteur, physician and bacteriologist Alexandre Emile Yersen spent most of his life in Vietnam. The country owes a lot to Yersin - from the foundation of the popular mountain resort in Dalat until the establishment of the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, which the scientist led for several decades. Yersin succeeded in studying bubonic plague and other infections and died in Nha Trang on March 1, 1943. memorial museum located at the branch of the Pasteur Institute, in the northern part of the beach. If you wish, in addition to the museum, you can visit the grave of Yersen, which is located 20 km south of Nha Trang, in the town of Soyidau. The modest cement tombstone is painted sky blue. According to the will, the body of the scientist was lowered face down into the grave: in this way he wished to symbolically embrace the land of the country he loved and in which he lived for more than 50 years.

To the north of the A. Yersin Museum, across the Kai River, a whole group of interesting sights is concentrated. These are Hongchon rocks, Cham temple complex Ponagar and Thapba hot springs.

Having driven to the end of the embankment and passing a narrow spit between the sea and the bay of the Kai River, we enter the Tran Fu Bridge (Tran Phu Bridge), 1 km from which are the rocks of Hon-chong (Hon Chong). The highest group of picturesque rocks is named "Spouse" (Hon-chong). The natural pothole at the top of the Spouse is not at all a trace of a massacre or a family quarrel. According to legend, once a giant leaned on this rock, admiring the heavenly fairy bathing in the bay. The second group of rocks is called Hongwo, which means "Spouse". For the passage to the rocks, a fee is charged - 5000 VND. Returning to the main road, we continue to move in a northerly direction. Very soon, the time-worn buildings of the Ponagar sanctuary will appear next to the road. (Po Nagar). Four kalan temples decorated with reliefs were built by the architects of ancient Champa in the 7th-12th centuries. AD The largest temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess (According to Yang Ino Nagar, one of the incarnations of Parvati is the wife of Shiva), has a height of over 22 m. A ten-armed statue of the goddess has been preserved inside. The remaining temples are dedicated to the deities Kambhu, Sandhaka and the elephant-headed Ganesh. You will have to pay 5,000 dong for entry. Every year on the 20th -23rd of the 3rd lunar month (second half of April) Ponagar becomes the venue for a celebration dedicated to the Mother Goddess. Local residents are still widely involved in the celebration: since the 17th century. The Hindu deity of the Chams is revered by the Vietnamese under the name of the goddess Dien Ngoc, the patroness of the country.

Near the Ponagar temples, a road leading to the Thapba hot springs leaves the highway to the right (Thap Ba), which are famous for their mud baths and useful water procedures. The springs are located at a distance of about 1 km from the Cham towers. Standard program (VND 80,000) includes mud bath, shower and immersion in thermal water with temperatures over 35 °C. Pools are shared. The cost of a one-day visit, including the use of individual baths, is 150,000 VND. VIP programs will cost from 100 USD. Valuables can be left in individual lockers. (deposit for the key - 10,000 VND). It is recommended to bring a pair of bathing suits with you. By the way, regular buses to the springs leave every hour from the Lientin city bus station. (Ben Xe Lien Tinh, from 8.00 to 18.30 daily).

Sea trips

In the vicinity of Nha Trang, there are nine large islands and many small sea cliffs protruding from the water. Major Islands - Hongchon (Hon Chong), Khontam (Hong Tam) , Hongmun (Hong Moon), Honmot (Hon Mot), Hongong (Hon Ong), Hongyen (Hon Yen), Hongmieu (Hon mieu), Khonche (Hon Tre) and honba (Hon Ba). A standard one-day boat trip (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 6 USD / 96,000 VND) includes a visit to the most remote island of Honmun and a disembarkation for two neighboring islands. Honmun belongs to the territory of the marine reserve, so it will not be possible to walk along its rocky shores. And to swim among the coastal coral reefs, you should pay an additional 5,000 dong (official bribe collector swims up to the cutter in a small boat). The name Hongmun is translated as Ebon Island and comes from the unusual black rocks that rise in the southwestern part of the island. Their color reminded fishermen of ebony.

During the trip, the boat makes its first stop at Hongmun Island, which lasts about an hour. After the "swim" there is lunch on board the boat, a collective rehearsal and a new swim, during which passengers are offered a "floating bar" in the form of a foam board swaying on the waves, lined with bottles of Vietnamese wine. Then the boat heads to Hontham Island, where for 10,000 VND (admission price) passengers are given the opportunity to stretch the bones on the shore. The island is lined with bungalows, outdoor drinking establishments, as well as attractions - for example, parasailing at a price of 200,000 VND for a 5-minute flight.

The last island to which the boat moored on the way back is Hon Myeu, on which there is a small but very interesting Chi Nguyen marine aquarium. By purchasing a ticket for VND 20,000, you can admire giant groupers, watch moray eels and try to wake a zebra shark lying motionless at the bottom of its glass house from a lethargic sleep. The most interesting part of the aquarium is a vast artificial lagoon, separated from the sea by a dam and divided into three parts, inhabited by fish, shrimps and huge sea turtles. Turtles willingly swim up to the feet of visitors and trustingly allow them to touch the slippery shell. The aquarium was founded in 1971 at the expense of a wealthy fisherman and philanthropist Le Can.

monkey island (Hong-lao) located north of Nha Trang. If you leave the city on highway No. 1, then at a distance of 14 km, in the village of Da Chung (Da Chung), on the right side of the freeway you will find a turn, decorated with a colorful arch in the national style. Having entered under the arch, in a few minutes you will get to the pier, from where boats regularly leave for the possession of monkeys (from 7.30 to 16.00, 50,000 dong round-trip).

Other attractions

Tourists who “hang” in Nha Trang for a long time can take several long excursions to sights located at a distance of 10-50 km from the city. One of them is located in the town of Zien Khanh. (Dien Khan). This is a well-preserved fortress, built in 1793. The non-uniqueness lies in the fact that this is one of two fortresses that have been completely preserved in Vietnam since the time of the founder of the Nguyen dynasty, Emperor Gia Dong (second fortress - citadel in Hue). The building covers an area of about 36,000 sq. m and consists of hexagonal earthen bastions and brick walls. Perfectly preserved oriental and west gate topped with towers in the national style. The total length of the fortifications exceeds 2,500 m with a wall height of 3.5 m. Numerous details, marked with national color, testify to the Vietnamese authorship of the building. At the same time, foreigners also interfered here: the citadel was built in accordance with the principles of classical French fortification science of the 17th-18th centuries. The bastions and ramparts are surrounded by a system of ditches, 3 to 5 m deep and 20 to 40 m wide. In the old days, the ditches were connected to the Kai River by locks and, if necessary, were quickly filled with water. In the XIX - early XX centuries. the fortress at Gien Khan served as the residence of the chief of the province. Having visited the fortress, one can imagine what the city of Ho Chi Minh City looked like at the beginning of its glorious history: a similar fortress existed there under the early Nguyen, but was torn down in 1835 after one of the rebellions of local troops.

Not far from Zien Khanh is Mount Zai'an. (Dai An, or Melon Mountain), on the slope of which the temple of Am Chya is located (Am Chua) dedicated to Mother Goddess Dien Ngoc. According to legend, in this place the goddess once descended to earth and honored melon planted with melons with her visit. Annually, on the 2nd day of the 4th lunar month (second half of May), the temple hosts a local religious holiday.

Doc Let sand dunes are located 50 km north of Nha Trang. (Doc Let) and Van Phong Bay (Van Phong) 19. Picturesque dunes stretch for 10 km between the villages of Donghai and Hong Khoi. The wonderful beach in this place is almost completely deserted - no one will stop you from enjoying the softness of the hot sand and the sound of the surf. At a distance of about 2 km is the village of Ninh Thuy (Ninh Thui), which has restaurants and tourist shops. Van Phong Bay lies to the north of Doc Let and in the near future promises to become a tourist center that is not inferior to Nha Trang.

The bay has an area of over 570 sq. km, surrounded by picturesque mountains and covered from the northeast sea winds by the Hong Peninsula (Hong Om) and honlon island (hon lon). From April 13 to April 29, 1905, the ships of the 2nd Pacific Squadron stood in the bay, sailing from the Baltic to the theater of operations of the Russo-Japanese War. Suez Canal and most ports in South Seas turned out to be closed to the St. Andrew's flag due to the hostile position of Great Britain. Stops of Russian ships were possible only in the overseas possessions of Germany and France. After a difficult passage through the Indian Ocean, the squadron was especially in need of rest and replenishment of supplies. The first "base" of the Russian fleet in Indochina was the Bay of Kamran, where the squadron arrived on April 1, 1905. In order not to give Japan a reason to accuse France of violating the rules of neutrality, the commander of the fleet, Vice Admiral Zinovy Rozhdestvensky, had to resort to a trick: at dawn on April 13, all ships went to sea and in battle formation headed north. Even the commanders of the ships were sure that they were going to meet the Japanese, but after dark they were all ordered to stand at a new parking lot in Van Phong, where they spent the next 16 days. It was from here that Russian ships proceeded to the Tsushima Strait, where most of them were destined to die in the largest battle of the era of steam armored ships ...

Leisure

There is no shortage of dive shops in Nha Trang (there are more than two dozen of them) organizing one-day boat trips with diving (average 50 USD/ 800,000 VND). If necessary, they conduct training with the issuance of an international certificate. The simplest snorkeling equipment is provided free of charge during the boat trips to the islands described above.

For example Jeremy Stein's Rainbow Divers (90A, Hung Vuong St., Nha Trang Tel: 058-524351)- the first dive center to start organizing dives and training under the PADI program in Vietnam in the mid-1990s. In addition to the Nha Trang office, it now has branches in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, on the islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao, as well as at the Whale Island Resort, http://www.divevietnam.com/

Renting a small sailing catamaran will cost about 25 USD / 400,000 VND. If desired, through any of the local travel agencies, you can arrange to go to sea on a fishing schooner (about VND 250,000). Especially interesting is the squid fishing, which is carried out at night under the light of powerful searchlights.

Accommodation

There are hotels in Nha Trang for every taste and budget, luxurious 5-star hotels meet world standards, but the price of accommodation is at the same level. The cheapest hotels in Nha Trang are family-run guesthouses with a small number of rooms and a warm, friendly atmosphere. On average, a night in such a hotel costs 5 USD / 80,000 VND. The rooms may not boast of chic finishes, but are quite spacious and tidy. The rooms have a toilet and hot shower, air conditioning, fan, refrigerator and a small color TV. A pleasant surprise may be the presence of an exit from the room to the terrace, which in Vietnam, as a rule, is lined with tropical plants in pots. You can buy drinks in every guesthouse (bottled water 1.5 l - VND 5,000, cola - VND 7,000 per can, beer - VND 10,000 per can), as well as order any tour of the city and its environs. Breakfast in hotels of this level, as a rule, is not served even for a fee.

Nutrition

In the first place in Nha Trang is, of course, seafood cuisine. Freshly cooked sea creatures are available in establishments of various levels - from a primitive beach grill to a respectable restaurant. At the same time, in a small street cafe, fried lobster (aka "lobster") weighing about a kilogram will cost about 150,000 dong, and in a restaurant - about 40,000 dong for every 100 grams of weight. King prawns in the first establishment will cost the client 50,000 dong for 4 pieces, and in the second - 25,000 dong per 100 grams. The best seasoning for seafood is a simple mixture of salt, black pepper and lime juice. (my tieu chan).

Traditional Vietnamese and European cuisine in Nha Trang is also at a premium. The cost of meals in restaurants starts from 25,000 - 30,000 VND. This city is one of those places where you can find such a famous Asian delicacy as soup from "swallow's nests" on the restaurant menu. (Vietnamese yen sao).

In fact, these nests do not belong to swallows, but to their closest relatives - salangans. These small black birds live on islands in the vicinity of Nha Trang, and the nearest nesting site outside the city - Ho Cave - is located in the Da Nang area. Unlike swallows, salangans build nests entirely from the secretions of special sublingual glands. Freezing in the sea air for many days, this substance turns into a valuable product. The first collection takes place in late spring, when the humidity is high and the nests are elastic and do not break in the hands of pickers. The lighter the nest - the less it contains salt and other impurities, the higher its price. The first collection lasts five days, this is a very laborious business: 30 - 40 nests weigh only 1 kilogram. 45 days after the first, the time of the second collection comes (at this time the second nesting period of birds ends). The third gathering takes place in the summer and produces lower quality nests. In restaurants, nests are soaked in water until a gelatinous mass is formed, impurities are removed and gourmet dishes are prepared.

Purchases

Beach shops are plentiful on Hung Vuong Street. Comfortable bathing shorts, obviously sewn somewhere in the neighborhood, will cost 60 - 70 thousand dong. There is a neat supermarket on Biet Thu Street with a large selection of food, drinks (wine produced in Dalat in 0.5 l bottles - VND 20,000) and essentials. Pearls and other souvenirs are sold in numerous shops in the tourist quarter and in the port. For crocodile and ostrich leather products, it is better to look closely at the factory store on Chang Fu Street (Tran Phu, 66; payment in dong, cash and credit cards)- the choice and quality here is much better, and the prices are much more attractive.

Chodam City Market is located in the northern part of the city, near the Cai River, on Nguyen Hong Son Street. (Nguyen Hong Son St.). The market, round in plan, was built in 1969 and can accommodate about 3 thousand traders.

Nha Trang is a generally safe place, but care should be taken when returning to the hotel late from the bar. In the "risk group" - intoxicated and overly distracted personalities. If you live in a family guesthouse and are going to return to the hotel after 22:00, it is better to warn the hosts in advance, otherwise it will not be easy to reach them. The most great danger, lying in wait for a bather in local sea waters, comes from currents that can be unexpectedly strong. At the edge of the city beach, you should not be afraid of this, however, while swimming near Hongmun Island, you should be careful not to move too far from the boat.

Nha Trang is called beach capital of vietnam. At one time, considerable funds were invested in the city to make it a tourist center with a developed infrastructure. However, this did not prevent Nha Trang from remaining an original place with its own “soul” and a touch of provinciality.

The city is surrounded by majestic mountains and the picturesque bay of the South China Sea, ranked 29th in the list. the most beautiful bays peace. Today it is not only a mecca for beach lovers, but also a medical resort. People come here to the healing mud and mineral water, which has a healing effect on the body. Attractions

Once a small fishing village, Nha Trang has managed to preserve the most interesting places for posterity, which are now visited by tourists with pleasure. Here are just a few "must sees in Nha Trang".

Tyam towers Po Nagar. The temple was built during the Champa period. Initially, the complex consisted of 6 towers, but two of them were destroyed. The rest date back to the 10th and 11th centuries AD. All towers are dedicated to the main Hindu deities: the god Shiva, Ganesh and Po Nagar. The last goddess is especially revered - it is believed that it was she who created the earth and taught people how to cultivate rice.

Long Son Pagoda. The temple, built at the end of the 19th century, was originally located in a different place. A strong cyclone in 1900 completely destroyed it and the pagoda was erected again in the place where it is now located. Here rise the famous statues of the sitting and sleeping Buddha, which are visible from many parts of Nha Trang. The building is decorated with a mosaic in the form of dragons, made of glass and tile pieces. A place with a unique atmosphere, which is definitely worth a visit.

The resort is also well suited for families with children. It will be hard not to visit the Vinpearl Land amusement park on Hong Che Island. This is such a Vietnamese Disneyland - with separate bonuses in the form of luxurious beaches and one of the largest wave pools in Asia. In addition to classic attractions, there is a water park, an oceanarium, and a mini-circus. In the evening there are shows of light and music fountains.

Vietnam National Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium is located 6 kilometers from Nha Trang. This is the place to go in Nha Trang with kids. They will certainly like sharks, turtles, seahorses, as well as the main exhibit of the museum - a huge whale skeleton.

Kitchen

The "king" of the feast in Nha Trang is the soup "pho". This is a rice noodle broth with chicken or beef, lime, basil, baby beans and mint. "Kom Tam" is usually prepared for the second. This is specially prepared broken rice served with grilled pork. The restaurant will add pickled vegetables and fish sauce to this dish. For dessert, the Vietnamese cook banh cuon steam pancakes, which wrap various fillings, as well as banh kom mini pies. They are served with tea or coffee.

From the "exotic" in Nha Trang, you can try the soup from the nests of swifts. This is a famous Vietnamese delicacy. Swifts make their nests from their own saliva high in the rocks. They are collected by climbers, climbing up the bamboo ladders and each time risking their lives.

What to bring

For inexpensive souvenirs, magnets and other trinkets, tourists go to the central night market of Nha Trang. Here you can buy memorable gifts with symbols, as well as the famous “non” straw hat at very attractive prices.

Python skin is also sold in Nha Trang in great abundance. These are all kinds of handbags, wallets and belts. Prices are pleasantly pleasing to the eye, so you can choose a gift for yourself and your family. Real silk products are another hallmark of Nha Trang. Lovers of noble fabrics will be able to choose dresses, bathrobes, shirts and bed linen.

And, of course, in Nha Trang it is worth buying creams, medicinal ointments and tinctures. We could all appreciate the healing properties of Vietnamese cosmetics thanks to the famous "star". Balms and creams based on natural herbs have a wide range of therapeutic effects. So, ointments "White Tiger" and "Cobratox" promise to cure diseased joints.
