Crocuses in the Carpathians are the spring miracle flowers of the mountains. In addition, specialists of official and traditional medicine of the Carpathians recommend using saffron in case of need. Description of Carpathian saffron

1. We were in a hurry to get to Pop Ivan. Clouds hung overhead, heavy buckets ready to topple over. Here, at least somewhere in the ruins of the observatory, you can hide and wait.

2. Although when approaching, it turned out that the entire observatory from the inside in the basement (where you can hide) is littered with snow. Yes, and in general somehow there is garbage, uncomfortable. But there is a fairly new chapel nearby, and we hid under its roof. We ate and drank tea.

3. We are still trying to get through to the guys who should have run to the village of Delovoy long ago, to get us passes to the border so that we can go to the Marmaros Range. There is still no connection, sometimes only a couple of sticks appear. And the weather also adds to the pressure. Kind of like a thriller...

4. Trying to climb high points the ruins of the fortress-observatory to catch at least one "wand" cellular communication. However, the peals of lightning in the distance somehow muffle our urge to be closer to the sky ...

5. Sasha found a beautiful stone and forced herself to take a picture on it. Just like that, sometimes you can’t interrogate the participants to pose in beautiful place, and here they offer.

larger photo

6. However, the photo shoot ended pretty quickly: Sasha's hair began to electrify and stand on end. And this seemed to us not a very good sign, but rather even a call to flee from this stone.

7. The rain also caught us a little: it drizzled for several minutes. This clearly does not compare with those streams of water that spilled right in front of us ...

8. In general, something fantastic was going on around Pop-Ivan that evening. The clouds around were moving very quickly, somewhere in the distance, streams of rain were pouring, and ragged wisps of fog rose like dragons between the mountains.

9. Sometimes sunbeams appeared and illuminated the fortress and the grass around it. In the meantime, managed to get through to Dima. He says that the border guards have not yet given permission. Although the day before they promised that they would definitely give it. Say - it remains only to come and pick up. Moreover, Ilya ran out of money on the phone. Now it's almost a one-way connection.

10. Get upset. We sit by the stone, look at the doomsday around ...

11. In the meantime, it is getting dark. The sun comes out from behind the clouds again. Dima calls again. He says they won't give a pass today at all. Say, it is necessary for the Russians to specifically find out from the FSB whether they were guilty of anything ...

12. We swear to ourselves at the border guards. So many suffered because of their empty promises. And all you need is an ordinary piece of paper for a pass to the border, which for some reason was arranged in such a beautiful place as Marmarosy ....

13. But we are resilient optimists! Therefore, we gathered our courage, stared once again at the path that we had overcome today with elephants behind our backs - and began to think what we should do now for the remaining 3 days of the trip. The idea came to mind to go to the Svidovets ridge. Actually, there are no more options in the Carpathians. Nearby - only these three ranges: Montenegrin, Svidovets, and Marmaros. We are now thinking of looking for a way out from Pop Ivan to civilization, to the village of Lugi. And the exit on the map is located on Mount Exit (solid coincidences in the names!). We are moving towards it. It's almost night. We were very tired from waiting and from heavy backpacks. Moreover, the rain began to drip, and the forest below was deaf, wild. It's scary to walk on it at night. Quite exhausted, we came to a parking lot not far from Mount Vykhod.

14. In the morning I woke up in a sick state. His throat was severely torn and in general he was completely broken. To be honest, this is the first time I've gotten sick on a camping trip. Maybe a strong load affected, and even sleep for five hours (he met sunrises and sunsets), or maybe he got infected from Katya. Or maybe both of them turned out so unsuccessfully at once. But still I found the strength to wake up before dawn and go to take pictures of the wonderful meadows of crocuses. Here they are, in front of you.

larger photo

15. Crocuses, by the way, have already begun to fade. Some are completely withered, and those that are near the snowfields or higher are still attached.

16. Crocus fields are not so easy to photograph: the flowers are small and mixed with grass. So if you want to arrange a photo shoot for them - get ready to climb the ground for a long time!

17. But not only crocuses grow on meadows. We also saw snowdrops, and small yellow, white flowers ...

18. Crocuses at dawn have not yet opened. You can sit next to - and watch how they open their heads towards the sun.

19. The first rays - and crocuses come to life ...

20. And during the day, meadows with crocuses are whole meadows with bright lanterns.

21. You can just lie down on such a field (without damaging the flowers, of course!) - and enjoy life, peace and warmth of the May mountains.

larger photo

22. After lying in the clearings with crocuses, we approached Mount Vykhod. What is most paradoxical is that there is no way out. There is simply no way out of the mountain - and that's it. We look at the map - there should be a road here. In general, having connected all our orientation skills, we are combing the forest in search of a way down to the valley and to the village of Lugi. We rushed about for an hour, but found a way out of the Exit. It turns out that the cartographer made a mistake and put the road in the wrong place.
During the descent, it is somehow especially difficult: the heat is already unbearable, and the temperature has also risen, and the entire load from the backpack has not yet run down. We walk along the wide forest highway down the monumental forest: huge fir trees (they are also called smereki) rise up in rows. Below is a spring forest with fresh leaves.

larger photo

23. Having dropped a kilometer of height, we went to a clearing for lunch. Lugov is about a dozen kilometers further along the road. We just had time to collect water and start boiling, when an Armenian stops opposite and loudly tries to find out if we should go down to the village. After slowing down a bit, I still decide to go with him: I need to meet the scout guys in Lugi so that they don’t worry (there is no connection as such). The Armenian was on a penny. Yes, and such a disco rolled that the ears were ready to burst. At the same time, he tries to shout something to me in his own language, smiling with a wide, unshaven smile. Until that moment, I was not even aware of the rally possibilities of a penny. But it turns out that if you put an Armenian behind the wheel of a penny and force him to press the gas with might and main when descending a mountain road in the last gear, then the penny will drive worse than any formula-1 car. However, I am now happy for the potential of the domestic auto industry. Then I just squeezed harder falling off (apparently, I'm not the first) handle of a racing car. Finally arrived. Staggering, I rolled out of the car and went to meet the guys. They are right there: sitting at the bus stop, waiting. We got drunk with “gum”: this is probably the main assortment of the local store ... And they began to talk about their adventures.
It turns out that they did not find a normal descent from Mount Brebeneskul, although the path to the valley was marked on the map. They had to break through the bushes, forests for several kilometers. I look at Dima's legs: they are all streaked with branches ... It's still okay. I was surprised by their story about crossing the rivers. In the spring, everything overflows very strongly. So Dima and Katya wandered some rivers waist-deep, some by swimming. And the White Yew in general in an original way: Katya climbed a tree that leaned towards the other bank, and slowly, crawling up to its top (just tilted over the opposite bank). And Dima tried to jump, tilting the top of the tree so that Katya could get off. These are the difficult ways the guys went down to the village of Lugi. And in the village, it turns out, everything is run by a peasant named Kolya. He has a hotel there, cars. And, as it turned out, the big house on the Goverla-Petros lintel belongs to him.
The guys apparently looked so miserable and unhappy that Kolya put them in his jeep and drove them to Delovoy. And there they began to swear about passes. As a result, they were never given ... But the guys were taken back to Lugi and left to spend the night, fed dinner. It turns out that they even went to meet us in the morning, but did not wait - they returned back to Lugi.
We quarreled once more together at the border guards and all this bureaucracy.
Katya gave me a loading dose of a pill (like Citramon). I took the pill with kvass from the store. The shock mixture produced some absolutely amazing effect: the temperature and the head immediately disappeared, the consciousness somehow cleared up, but blood came out of the nose, as much as from two nostrils. Some kind of bad luck ... In the meantime, we agreed to pick up Ilya and Sasha, who were left behind. They drove up - and we rushed on the next car (on a collapsing four) down to Svidovets. Behind the wheel was a young racer who diligently squeezed all the strength out of the poor four. Again it was scary. And not even for themselves, but for those children who sometimes ran out onto the road in the villages. The guy desperately pressed on the steering wheel, trying to signal, but the steering wheel did not respond. At the same time, he slowed down the speed. So we instantly rolled down at a speed, probably more than a hundred, along a serpentine among the villages.
We unloaded, moved away from the trip - and stomped up the hill, to Svidovets.

24. Or maybe it's not so bad that we didn't get to Marmaros? It has always been my dream to see spring in a Carpathian village closer (and even better, to shoot a national wedding there). So I became closer to this dream. The village of Kvasy stretches far up, through meadows and forests. We stomp through cherry and apple orchards, enjoying the evening sun and the delicious aromas of the village. Everything is very neat here: people live economically. A little man crawled out of the house while I was photographing a beautiful courtyard. To my pseudo-Western Ukrainian “Good day,” he replied in good Russian, “Hello, happy road to you.”

larger photo

25. So, I was worried that in western Ukraine the attitude towards Russians is not the best. But it turned out to be some absolutely wrong stereotype: the attitude of all the locals is very friendly!

26. They joke, however, sometimes. So, Dima said that the last time his local man asked where he came from. And on Dimino, “And we are from the Moscow train ...”, then Dima stumbled, and the peasant with a sly grin answered him “Soooo, where is my sokir ...” (an ax in Ukrainian). But this is all in jest, of course.

larger photo

27. We stopped at an old ruined house. The roof slid down, the walls piled on top of each other. And around - an apple orchard with beautiful delicate flowers and the aroma of spring. Place amazing beauty and a little mysterious because of the destroyed house.

28. We decide to stop right here, in the garden, for the night. The night is already close, and huge clouds are crawling from Svidovets.

29. It's good here, but the guys are scared an old house and proximity to civilization. But all the same, we stay - and we are doing the right thing: literally a couple of minutes after we put up the tents, a downpour broke out.

30. And in the morning another small miracle awaited us. Fog. Rivers of milk spilled into the valley, slowly rising in clubs above the houses.

31. Dawn is approaching, fog sometimes covers everything around so that nothing is visible at arm's length.

32. When the sun peeps out, the weather clears up, the fog recedes down. And everything is filled with light, magical and gentle light, gently covering the tender spring grass.

33. When the sun peeps out, the weather clears up, the fog recedes down. And everything is filled with light, magical and gentle light, gently covering the tender spring grass.

larger photo

34. The sun rises higher and higher. The fog is dissipating, low clouds are flying by. It's just some other world, unearthly.

larger photo

35. And we say goodbye to our garden, with apple trees and an old mysterious house.

larger photo

36. Katya plays a farewell melody to this place - and we rise to continue our journey.

37. Katya generally plays very beautifully. We even had an idea to take a violin and a piano (the latter is optional) on our next trip...

39. We leave below the village with old solid houses - and move up, along the heavy climb to Mount Bliznitsa.

40. The sun sometimes plays below with tiny, toy houses from a height.

41. Here the dogs followed us. Where they came from and what they wanted from us is hard to say. The dogs were like those who herd sheep: small, but strong. They probably still wanted to eat something from tourists. But they simply could not resist Katya. A whole queue lined up for a session of scratching and stroking. Moreover, the dog had such a touching and baldezhny expression of the muzzle that it cannot be described in one frame.

42. It seems as if the poor dog just got to heaven.

43. And then the second dog arrived in time, Katya is already torn on both.

44. And the shaggy sheep-dog sat nearby, clapped his ears and was shy. But he was clearly jealous of the ongoing session of transferring human kindness to his colleagues.

45. Stopped for lunch. The dogs obviously got wind of this (probably, they were waiting for this, maybe even grimacing for the sake of a piece of sausage). We ate and moved on.

larger photo

46. The sun broke through the clouds, and Katya sometimes played the flute in the forest while I was waiting for the sun's rays.

larger photo

47. Soon we climbed high, right under the clouds.

48. This is the approach to the Twin. Snowy cornices and clouds hanging like lead.

49. We crossed the pimple of Bliznitsa - and there is another obstacle ahead, Mount Bliznitsa the Great.

larger photo

50. The grass is golden in front of the sun with long curls combed by the wind.

51. Duet strong wind. It seems to stretch the sails of snow cornices with sharp lines.

52. Climbing on them is dangerous: just about to fall off.

53. We move further along the ridge. The sun is already leaning towards the horizon, sometimes it is possible to catch glimpses of the sun on the grass.

54. And below you can already see the ski resort Dragobrat. We decide to go down and look for housing in Dragobrat. Katya and I are in a sick state. And the sick need warmth and rest. At the top, this is clearly not enough: a strong wind rises, and the air is no longer so warm - it got colder ...

55. We went downstairs, sent the guys on reconnaissance to look for housing. Dragobrat in the spring is not the most pleasant sight: mud and eroded soil are everywhere. After winter, no one is in a hurry to restore cleanliness and order. The main life here takes place in winter. Then everything falls asleep and dies until the next season. Sad and lonely are the lifts on the slope above the spring grass. An hour passes. It seems that there is only one dog left alive, but the infrastructure here is rich: a whole big village high-rise buildings and cafes. The guys finally come, but empty-handed: everywhere is closed. We decide to try our luck - and go to another hotel higher. It turned out to be the Votavilu Hotel, and we were received there. The guys by some miracle bargained for a very small amount, that the hostess even herself was surprised at the price in the end.
The hotel is glorious: everything is upholstered in wood, the floors are made of large tree trunks. The beds are also massive, made of wood. It was also nice that they fed us (although we didn’t ask for it), and Katya and I were also treated. We spent the whole day in bed. And the guys went for a walk along Svidovets on glacial lakes. The hostess treated us with Katya with a decoction of moss, tinctures for alcohol, and mulled wine. In the end, we were even amazed at such a warm and sincere attitude towards us, so I highly recommend the hotel, since it is almost the only one that works in summer and spring in Dragobrat. On May 6, I tried to climb up Mount Stog in the morning. But the strongest wind was blowing, it just took me down, so I decided to lie down in the house. And at night I went out to shoot the full moon.

56. And on May 7 we are already going down to Yasinya along a sun-drenched road. We say goodbye to the mountainous Carpathians. Today we want to board a rakhovovoz that travels from Rakhiv to Ivano-Frankivsk. They specially guessed the time - it departs at 14.57 from the platform near the bus stop.

larger photo

57. This, of course, is not a Norwegian train: the harsh reality of western Ukraine in the form of grandmothers with poor luggage, sellers and dirty wagons returns from heaven to earth. In Norway, it was a real fairy tale: fjords, mountains, clean wagons and the expectation of adventure. Here - rain, wooden benches and creaking diesel cars. But it’s also not bad and very beautiful to ride along steep inversions, bridges, tunnels. This is such a beautiful railroad.

58. The train had a single emergency window. And that seat was already taken. I had to talk to the man at the window. It turns out that he is a worker, a builder. And he works as a security guard to save money for his house. We talked with him sincerely, we met another kind person in the Carpathians ...

59. Soon it started to rain. All the windows were closed, and we played classic tourist games like an animator (this is when you stick a piece of paper on your forehead and guess who you are). In the cars closer to Ivano-Frankivsk - almost no one ...

Evening in the city - and we are already on the train, going home.

Good health and magical rest in the Carpathians!

After a trip to the Crimea, having been at home for only one day, he left for the Carpathians. Of course, I wanted to get there a little earlier, when crocuses were blooming in the mountains, but unfortunately this year it did not work out. We'll have to wait another year.

Last year's spring trip was not as successful as this one. And in terms of the weather (then it was only 1 day warm and sunny, and then it rained and cold) and, accordingly, in terms of shooting. This time weather were just perfect. It is a pity that we missed one morning - immediately after arrival. More precisely, they did not miss, but arrived a little late. I wanted to sleep, got up a little late. In general, over the past three weeks, sleep has been sorely lacking. Strong fatigue accumulated back in the Crimea, with lights out at 12 at night and rises at 3 in the morning. And on a slightly missed morning, there were fantastic clouds with edges outlined in pink light. It lasted about 10 minutes, until we got to the shooting point - there was no such light ... But first things first (more precisely, about how 1 day went in the Carpathians) without bothering with processing. But no .. nifiga does not work.

We left Minsk at night, in the morning we were in the Pinsk region.
The usual route through the Mokrany border crossing had to be abandoned due to the simply terrible state of the roads in those parts.
We went through Pinsk-Sarny-Rovno.
Quite a tolerable road to the Kyiv-Chop highway.

1. Near Pinsk, everything was in floods, huge flooded areas. In some places, the water flooded the courtyards. We stopped for several minutes to shoot (although it would not be possible to spend a long time there - an unrealistic number of mosquitoes and midges)

At about 8 am they crossed the border, there were no cars.
The customs officer sorted through the passports for a long time, asking why I travel so often and so on ...
And for almost an hour then stuck near exchange office, which is on the territory of the border crossing.
By the way, as time has shown, money can be safely changed at the border, there is almost always the maximum existing hryvnia/$ exchange rate.
According to the schedule, the exchange office works without interruptions, but in reality they are.
While standing and waiting for the opening, the same customs officer came and took away the exit ticket, arguing that it was impossible to stay on the border for so long.
In fact, it turned out that this was another reason for petty extortion, which no one particularly shuns at Ukrainian border crossings.
Asking “for a magarych” is a standard phenomenon 🙂

The road to Rovno is so-so. Not good, but not dead either. You can basically keep a steady pace.
In some places there are pits, occasionally - pits half a wheel deep. But in the daytime they were clearly visible.
We must pay tribute - on the way back, some sections have already been patched up.
Although how long will these patches last? After all, the pit was thrown with “shavings” from the old asphalt torn off elsewhere, and a new one was put on top and rolled 🙂 Know-how 🙂
By the way, I saw another "invention" of the Ukrainian road service a year ago in the Kovel region.
A bucket of lime or white paint was simply poured into the road pit in a big way and thus it was clearly visible 🙂
In general, the way back seemed not as stressful as the way there. I'm used to the pits 🙂
True, this eventually relaxed my attention, and on the way back, 3-4 minutes before arriving at the border (the border was passed in 17 minutes), I managed to fall into a hole in the evening, so yesterday I went on an excursion to the “alignment” (it passed, nothing damaged)

The Kyiv-Chop highway is just an autobahn compared to local roads.
Only closer to the Transcarpathian region were large pieces of freshly cut asphalt, where no one bothered to make a smooth exit / exit.
It was hard to drive in places...
In general, one can write a whole poem about the road to the Carpathians, breaking through to a tear.

Before the Transcarpathian region, we did not stop anywhere, except just to have a bite to eat and stretch our legs several times.
The weather was not hot, the ride was easy. Everything around started to bloom.
Although the crocuses were not lucky, they got "in color." May 4-6 was (probably) the peak, everything around was white and pink because of the flowering trees.
Moreover, there were places along the road where everything was white, and an hour later everything was green, without a hint of color.
Behind Skole and further, a noticeable haze was visible in the air, which did not at all contribute to shooting ..
In general, we got to the place without incident.

On the way to Volovets, Alexey Skalin was picked up at the railway station alex_l_skalin, with whom they searched for the "Treasures of Inkerman" together. It seems like they even found something 🙂
In general, apparently, he had an awesome tour of Ukraine: Crimea, Kyiv, Lviv, Carpathians ...
He must have looked elsewhere.

7. By the end of the trip, Alexey was nicknamed "Official representative of Instagram in the Carpathians" by everyone 🙂

8. Looking ahead - a few finger movements and Carpathian masterpieces were born in him 🙂

By the way, as it turned out later, there was another meeting with an Instagram fan, Stanislav Savin ahead. sav_in 😉
The next day, they talked to him and his fellow travelers in Gembe.

14. Upon arrival, we were very warmly welcomed by the hosts, Natalya and Nikolai (this year we changed our place to stay). Now, we can say, the trip turns out with a small admixture of agro / eco-tourism - we live in a clean guest house in an ordinary village.

15. The house has a perfectly clean bathroom / shower / washbasin, hot water, two rooms, a kitchen, a terrace with two chairs and a swing. By the way, they are constantly occupied either by us or by the owner's cats 🙂)

16. Near the master's farmstead, those who wish could milk themselves a glass of milk in the evening or feed the rabbits :))

18. Carpentry workshop of Nikolai...

19. The cat under the watering can (the owner's cat Mustafa, old and always sleepy ..) Probably also deaf, because it was very difficult to wake him up

In general, the day of arrival was quite prosaic ...

The morning of the second day, as I said, we safely prossrrr ... overslept ..
More precisely, they didn’t oversleep, but left a little late. There was an excellent short-term dawn, and then the weather gradually worsened.

20. Surroundings of Pylypets. At times it even reminded me of autumn. Remains of snow still lay on the peaks and in the hollows.

27. But when the sun broke through - below, on the slopes - it was still spring ..

29. Having walked along the hill, seeing that the weather is quite "photographic", the sun is muted, low clouds - we decided to climb Gemba.

30. The price of the lift is still "winter" - 30 hryvnia (a little less than $ 4), there were quite a lot of people (Friday), bike bikers also did not get bored.

34. Jeep trial lovers were not bored either. The brave ripples on the "NP" wanted to climb the mountain. They overcame only the first step above the lift (who was there will understand) and rolled down, not very satisfied. Although it was rather dry, the soil was clayey and slippery, and the tread got clogged up at once.

37. In some places there were still large areas of melted snow.

38. Closer to the top, everything was wrapped in dense clouds, we never climbed to the very top precisely because of zero visibility. The people descending from there were completely wet, they said, visibility was a meter and a half from themselves.

39. The sun gradually disappeared, everything was covered with clouds and the wind increased. But in general, there was a very interesting state of nature: clouds, pieces of the sky, a little lower - clouds, spots of light.

40. You could just stand and watch .. It was not necessary to shoot at all 🙂

42. But above there was already a completely different weather, completely different views. Spots of light broke through at times (sometimes had to wait about 10 minutes)

48. Almost everyone was attracted by a low Christmas tree, which slightly enlivened the meager blueberry-mountain-foggy landscape (the slopes of the mountain are completely covered with blueberries)

Aleksey alex_l_skalin also showed interest in it 🙂

Assuming that it no longer makes sense to go higher due to dense clouds, we decided to return back.

52. Below, at the foot of the mountain next to my "Honda" Stanislav Savin's "rent - e-car" "Golf" was dozing, the weather was completely different: sunny, sooo warm, no hints of what was going on at the top.
