Day 1 (December 31, 2018): all participants of the trip meet at 19:52 on the central part of the Zaputnoye platform. The train from Moscow departs from the Kazansky railway station in the direction of Cherusti at 17:32. We get acquainted, listen to a short briefing and go into the forest. As real tourists, a full-fledged trip awaits us! We will walk 9 kilometers through the winter forest to get to the very fire in the clearing, behind which our friends of the fabulous Twelve Months so often gather. Maybe this time we will be able to meet them in the forest and someone's cherished New Year's wish will finally come true! But even if this does not happen, then on this New Year's Eve our good old Grandfather Frost will definitely come to us, and he certainly knows a lot about making wishes come true. Upon arrival at the clearing, we ourselves will have to add color to our holiday: we will decorate the Christmas tree, light the taiga candles, put our future mulled wine on fire, decorate our clearing, set the table and do not notice when it’s time to count twelve strokes of chimes. And then we will have to briefly forget that we are already adults, and completely immerse ourselves in the New Year holiday! We are waiting for jumping over a big rope, the Russian-folk game "Brook", "Burners", wall-to-wall wrestling, pillow fight, the competition "The Strongest Hero", tug of war, the game of Cat and Mouse, the competition "Russian hostess", New Year's round dance and other entertainment from Santa Claus! When we get tired, we will all go to sleep in a special 12-seat winter tent with a stove, which will be installed in the forest not far from the clearing. Despite the fact that I have been hiking for a long time, it was the first New Year that I met in the forest.
From the station to the clearing, our path lay through a stunning winter forest: the crowns of the trees were covered with caps of snow, everything around sparkled in the rays of lanterns. And in general, the mood was upbeat - a lot of snow, a crowd of cheerful tourists, the anticipation of the holiday!
After passing through the forest, we came to the field, and then to small village, some of the houses in which were brightly decorated with multi-colored garlands.
Finally, we reached the clearing. The fire burned brightly, the pots languished hot, salads were waiting on the festive table. And in the center of the clearing stood a real spruce, which we still had to decorate with our own hands. Tents were already set up along the edges of the clearing, from the chimneys " warm tents' Smoke billowed.
We met the chimes that sounded on the radio as it should be - with champagne and sparklers in our hands.
Then there was a round dance with Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden around the Christmas tree and other games. They saved a snowman, rolled each other on cheesecakes, fished balls and built live photographs. In general, all conditions for happy holiday were created;)
Well, of course, what is the New Year in the forest without songs around a hot fire made of whole logs? We sat right up to 5 in the morning, drinking fragrant mulled wine / tea. The holiday was a success!

We arrived at the Zaputnaya platform, and as it turned out later, a small warm-up was waiting for us in the form of 8 kilometers through the forest, fog, mud, jumping over logs and puddles to a clearing with a live Christmas tree. We refreshed ourselves, listened to the speech of the chief of all Rus', celebrated the new year with glasses of Champagne. Then we spent the night in the royal brand new tents. The next morning, which began at half past twelve, we ate a lot of porridge, took part in new competitions, and were escorted to the train. To be honest, next time I would organize the arrival of the holiday on the 31st in the afternoon, and the departure closer to twilight. Moreover, the way back to the Shaturtorf station is generally a freebie.

The topic of my post today: winter holidays Outdoors. Although the climate in our region is not very conducive to year-round tourism, many lovers active rest The onset of cold weather does not scare. Warm clothes, shoes and winter equipment are taken out of the wardrobes.

Of course, the peak of the winter season is the New Year, and today I want to tell about this holiday through the eyes of a tourist. Maybe with my story I will be able to inspire someone or throw a couple of ideas. You may object that I am sharing my experience late: it is January, and there is still a lot of time until the next New Year, but let me object. Organize and spend half the night in winter forest by the fire is not an easy task. And there should not be "punctures". You don't want to ruin your holiday if something goes wrong, do you? So it takes time to think things over, prepare and maybe practice. Here's some food for thought and a quick guide.

I myself met the New Year in the forest twice, and I remember these years very vividly. When I was first offered to go to a frosty damp forest, with its blue-gray twilight and snowdrifts above the knee, instead of a festive table in an apartment, a TV with congratulations from the president, the comfort and warmth of a home, I questioned the very idea. Well, what kind of festive mood can there be in the forest by the fire? And in general, from childhood I liked this magical transition of times: from the old to the new. Chiming clock. What about in the forest? Silence, the creak of snow under the sole of the boot, and occasional snow caps falling off the branches, gently and without a trace settling in a snowdrift. But now it is the New Year's forest that seems to me the most magical and desirable.

So, if you're ready to take the risk and change your New Year's habits, let's get down to planning.

Start by choosing a company. There should not be too many people so that the popular expression “who goes to the forest, who goes to the firewood” does not become a reality, but not too few so that the distributed duties (and in the forest there is something for everyone to do) are not a burden. The most optimal - 8-10 people.

Second important point is the choice of location. For the first time, the best option would be to celebrate the New Year in nature, and go to sleep and relax in the house or apartment of one of the participants in the celebration. Therefore, a forest clearing should be chosen near locality, within half an hour walk. It could be suburban village or a residential area near a forest.

It is very important to look after a secluded clearing in advance, to scout the way so that on New Year's Eve you do not get lost in the dark. It will be better if your clearing is located in the depths of the forest belt, so that you "at the light", in a direct and figurative sense, walking and celebrating did not visit.

Also, in advance, on the eve or in the morning, this clearing is cleared of snow, a place for a fire is prepared (but not in a lowland, otherwise there will be a puddle!), Firewood is harvested. It is quite capable of two or three men. Don't forget to arm yourself with a thermos of hot tea, because there is no fire yet!

Don't be stingy with wood. The bonfire should be festive. You can dump dry wood. This is not prohibited by law. For a winter fire, two trunks about 20 centimeters in diameter are enough, sawn into logs half a meter long. Conifers are preferred. Perfect pine. Spruce is good, but beware of spruce sparks! And remember, never, please, never harvest birch as firewood for a winter fire! There is very little flame from it. Also, do not be seduced by already fallen and snow-covered trees. Firewood from them is useless.

Everyone goes to the celebration itself at eight or nine in the evening, so that the food is ready by midnight, and if something doesn’t work out, one could always return to the warmth of the home and celebrate the New Year at home.

The next item is food. Of course, it will not be possible to set a festive table in the forest, but you can think of something. The idea is that there is no table as such. At best, you can tamp the snowdrift to put everything you brought with you on it. Everyone will eat from a plate, holding it in their hands. This point must be taken into account when choosing dishes. The best option: cook everything at home, and warm it up on a fire in the forest if necessary. The meat can be divided into portions and wrapped in foil so that it is convenient to heat over a fire, make stewed vegetables in a large saucepan. I remember once we cooked dumplings. It worked out very well.

In any case, for everything to go like clockwork, you need to practice. Make and maintain a fire, heat up and cook food on fire, and in general, check your feelings: do you like to spend a few hours in a frosty forest.

Another interesting pastime in nature are competitions and quizzes. This is what I usually did. Entertainment was divided into two parts. It all started in the forest by the fire and ended in the apartment with summing up and presenting gifts. I remember that in one of the competitions I invited the participants to put the letters correctly in the name of the world famous Icelandic volcano Eyyafyatlayokudl. The warm forest company is well complemented by a guitar.

But no matter what the competitions and the preparation of the celebration, the main thing is the people who surround you. When you sit in a warm circle of light, and around, as many eyes as possible, snowdrifts and tree trunks, the whole world narrows down to this small space. You look at the people next to you, and you understand that this is your life. Here and now. You have two feelings. On the one hand, this is the power and grandeur of nature, against which a person with his problems is less than a grain of sand, and on the other hand, a sense of the grandeur and triumph of life. It is in the bosom of nature that you understand what is true and how much.
