If such herbs grow here over the summer, it’s scary to imagine what kind of mushrooms there are. The place is clearly anomalous. Detailed route description

We, the inhabitants of the East European Plain, are not very spoiled by landscape diversity. Therefore, all deviations of the relief from the plane and the geophysical phenomena associated with this are considered sights and monuments of nature.

And although these monuments are not as grandiose as in those places where they are supposed to be, but they have a place to be. For example, in the suburbs there are several waterfalls. About one of them, a waterfall, which is not far from Sergiev Posad, I have already told and shown. But the most famous in the Moscow region is the Rainbow waterfall on the Nara River. It is also called girlish tears: perhaps this name is associated with some local legend, but rather, it is an association with tears that flow in a stream. This is the waterfall we are heading to today.

The Rainbow waterfall is located on the very outskirts of Moscow. But rejoice early. For this refers to the outskirts of Moscow since 2012, when the giant tentacle of the city stretched along the Warsaw and Kaluga highways to the very border of the Kaluga region. It is precisely there, on the border, that he is overthrown. But you can get to the waterfall by city bus. How exactly to get there, I will tell you at the end.

I knew about the waterfall for a long time, but in those days, when I was actively exploring the trails near Moscow, I thought that the spectacle did not correspond to the complexity of the route. And not so long ago it turned out that in those places our friends had a dacha. So we decided to close another white spot during the May holidays.

Theoretically, you can go down to the waterfall directly from the high left bank of the Nara, there is even a path there. You just need to know where it is and philosophically about a possible accelerated descent head over heels. And you can go around 500 meters downstream to the exit to the water meadow. Beautiful views the Nara valleys and the rapidly awakening nature (let me remind you that it was at the beginning of May) will be a reward for a small detour.

We are right there, to the left, in the thicket.

Here is the first stream. There will be seven in total. In some descriptions of the Rainbow waterfall, even the name of this place is the Valley of the Seven Springs.

And you still need to look under your feet, otherwise, besides ticks, all sorts of reptiles crawl here.

By the way, the widespread opinion that snakes are not dangerous is not entirely true. It's just that their venomous teeth are located not in front, like in normal snakes, but in the back. Therefore, you don’t need to put your finger in your mouth: once, as a child, I read that one well-known researcher died from a snake bite.

And so, seven streams. Some flow from somewhere down the slope through the already lush vegetation,

the origins of others can be observed directly from the trail.

These, the last ones, so powerfully pour out from the crevices in the limestone slabs, which form the high left bank of the Nara.

Streams with the purest, clear water cross the path with a business-like murmur and flow into the Nara.

And here it is, Rainbow Falls.

The descriptions say different things about its height: from 3 to 5 meters, but this is a clear exaggeration.

then yes.

Two words about the nature of the waterfall. Everyone knows the common expression that Moscow stands above the artesian sea. It used to look like this to me huge cave filled with water. Oh, how naive I was! In fact, several layers of limestone slabs, separated by water-resistant layers of clay, are located under Moscow and the region. Limestone slabs, they are called horizons, are riddled with cracks, caverns and other small cavities. Here the water located in these cracks is the same artesian sea. Sometimes slabs of limestone horizons come so close to the surface (for example) that the waters of the artesian sea break into the light. Such is the nature of the Rainbow waterfall, generated by artesian waters of limestones of the Kashirsky horizon.

That's actually all about Rainbow Falls.

You can also take a walk along the banks of the Nara. I dare to suggest that the emotional impact of the views of the valley of this typical Russian river, which are innumerable in our forests, meadows, fields, has a very beneficial effect on the nervous and digestive systems.

How to get to the waterfall: from final stop bus No. 1004 in the village of Kamenka, which is on the Kaluga highway, go (drive) another 2 km to the gas station, in front of the gas station the road goes to the right, along it 50 meters to the exit to the primer on the left (during rains, the first 100 meters of the primer become limp), which and lead to the river.

Feedback on the passage of the route

The route to the Rainbow waterfall is a very beautiful trail, accessible even for beginners, with big amount scenic spots. Dense forests, flowering meadows and artificial ponds and lakes. The pearl of the route is, of course, the Rainbow waterfall itself.

Places for rest and overnight stays

Rest and swimming in the summer is possible near artificial lakes and ponds on the route, as well as near the Nara River. The village of Panino has equipped beaches.

Overnight stay is possible at the Raduzhny waterfall, on the bank of the river.

Water

The waterfall flows out of a high hill, from which numerous springs and springs flow. Water from the springs is suitable for drinking and cooking, but despite assurances local residents about its purity, it is recommended to boil before use.

The shops

On the route, due to the lack settlements, there are no stores or outlets where you can buy products. Therefore, you need to prepare and take everything you need right away. Otherwise, you will have to make a convergence from the route and go to the village of Kamenka or Papino, which is a 3 km detour.

Detailed route description

The route starts from the station 252 km. We pass 100 meters along the platform and the adjoining road to a wide asphalt road that crosses the railway track and on the asphalt turning to the right we go along this road from the station. After 320 meters we come to a fork in the road. We choose the left path, which actually continues the chosen direction of movement.

We go along the road for another 590 meters. The road begins to turn smoothly to the left, towards the Health resort, but we turn right onto a dirt road leading into the forest. Before this turn, there will be a sign “Protect the forest from fire” from good landmarks.

On a dirt road we pass 108 meters. A small stream flows in this place, which turns these 10 meters of the road into a swamp during the rainy season. In dry times, you can find a more or less dry passage, otherwise you need to look for a bypass. With further passages of this route, it is planned to make a log transition in this place.

The next kilometer of the way we go along the same unpaved forest road. It will make small turns and bends several times, bifurcate in some places, but eventually it will come to the same place of exit from the forest to a large meadow.

All the same dirt road further goes to the meadow, and here it bifurcates. One the road goes through the meadow itself, the second along the edge of the forest. The route is laid along the left road, the one that goes along the edge of the forest. The length of this section of the track is 650 meters.

As soon as the forest ends to the left of the road, the primer continues to go along the meadow, but we leave it to the left, climb a small hill and go out onto an asphalt road. The road goes from the village of Zinaevka.

We continue the previously chosen direction of movement, and after walking along the asphalt for 200 meters we turn left, to the adjoining road that leads to the village. We cross a small bridge and after 90 meters from the turn, after going to private plots, we turn sharply to the right and go along the road along the fences of the cottages. After 250 meters the road will go to the left, still along the village, but the route continues to go forward, leaving the village parallel to the paved road on the right.

This stretch of 200 meters is easily traversed on a dirt road. Further, this road turns at an angle of 90 degrees to the right, across the rivulet. But the route continues straight ahead. Here, it can be difficult to identify the path, because in the summer, dense grassy vegetation hides the path. On this section, the main thing is to adhere to the previous direction of movement, still parallel to the asphalt on the right. This section will last 200 meters, after which it enters a clearing surrounded by forest on all sides.

We cling to the edge of the forest on the left side of the clearing, and go out onto the dirt road, which still goes along the edge. A good guide will be a long brown fence, visible on the opposite edge of the clearing. We go along the road to this fence, and then along it for the next 500 meters.

As soon as the fence ends, the dirt road dives sharply down into the ravine, and immediately exits it, after which it turns right. Further, she will go along small plantations of trees, behind which one can see artificial pond. To the left of the road, a field stretches all the time, approximately in the middle divided by a forest belt, perpendicular to the road. The route is laid along this road, the length of this section is 950 meters. This place has several beautiful places near the pond, where you can make a halt or an early lunch.

We pass along the road to the end of the pond. There is a fork in this place - one road turns right, going around the pond, the second goes further straight, going into the forest. The route goes straight along the road, and after 140 meters it turns sharply to the left. After another 60 meters, a new bend in the road to the right, into a ravine. In this place, the road is washed out; after rains, a swamp often forms in the lowlands. As one of the options for passing this section, this is along a wooden fence, which, as it were, covers the lowland.

Having risen from the lowland, the road leads through a beautiful clearing into the forest, gradually curving to the left.

It is impossible to go astray in this section, as the road is very well rolled, and in some places the track reaches a depth of 40 cm, due to the fact that this is a road for ATVs. On this section of the route, 1.5 km of dense beautiful forest, and during the rainy season a large number of mud areas turned by ATVs into real swamps. In the forest, the road diverges several times at forks, but always later converges into one, so moving along the route you need to choose the fork where it is drier and less muddy.

After 1.5 km of the forest, the road leaves the forest to another picturesque meadow, which in early June turns into a yellow carpet of blooming rapeseed.

At the exit from the forest, there is also a direction indicator for the route.

There is a possibility that over time the sign may be broken by vandals, so if it is missing, you need to focus on the dirt road that goes through the meadow to the village of Lykovka, visible ahead.

We cross the meadow (380 meters) and go out onto a wide country road, on which we turn right, in the direction of the village and the reservoir. After 400 meters we come to the reservoir, on the banks of which it is convenient to organize a halt or lunch. Here there is interesting object, which is located near the road itself - a water discharge system.

After 100 meters along the reservoir there is another fork. One road goes to the left, along the reservoir, the second straight through the field. We choose the option through the field, and after passing through it 450 meters we cross the forest belt. Here the main road will go through a new field, but we turn right and continue along the line of the forest, towards the village ahead. After 350 meters we approach the dacha village, and without entering it, on the way we go around it on the right side (200 meters).

We go to the beginning large field, and cross it along one of the dirt roads. Of the landmarks on the way will be the village of Lopatino, which is visually located in the middle of the field. We cross the field in such a way as to go around the village on the right side without entering it. The length of this section of the route is 1.3 km.

If we go exactly along the road, then we will come to a small forest belt, in which there is a beautiful natural lake.

We leave the first forest belt, cross a small meadow and after 200 meters we come to the second forest belt, which can either be bypassed on the left side or crossed in any passable place. Once on the other side, turn right and walk along this forest belt for the next 560 meters.

We go out to a clearing overgrown with young trees, mostly birch trees. Here the road turns left and after 220 meters it enters the forest again. The first 150 meters is an old forest, with large trees, after which there are mostly young trees that grow densely on both sides of the road. The next 400 meters of the path will pass through this young growth.

From the forest, the route goes to an asphalt road. Immediately upon exiting the forest, we turn left and walk along the asphalt for the next 430 meters, after which, at the place marked on the tree, we turn sharply to the right and enter the forest that grows on both sides of the road. The trail through this section of the old forest is not yet well trodden, so you have to constantly navigate by markings. If the marking cannot be found, the main thing to understand is that you need to cross this section of the forest moving strictly perpendicular to the asphalt road from which you turned. On the way, you will have to cross a small river twice, through which trees have been fallen in many places. After 140 meters of forest, the route comes to another dirt road, surrounded on one side by the forest from which we came out, on the other side by a young garden.

We go straight along the dirt road, keeping the direction of movement as we left the forest, and after 80 meters we come to a fork. The branch road to the right leads to suburban village, but we continue straight ahead and after another 160 meters, turn left along with the road. Ahead, to the left of the road, you will see a dense forest area, in which our waterfall is located. We move along the road for 350 meters so that there is a garden on the left of us, and a new forest area on the right. The exit from the road into the forest is obvious, marked with a mark. Further, only a steep descent awaits us, and after 130 meters we go directly to the waterfall.

If you walk along the shore from the waterfall upstream of the river, then after 200 meters you can reach a large clearing, which is perfect for setting up camp and spending the night.

For further advance along the route, it is necessary to return in the same way that we came to the waterfall - along a dirt road, through a garden, through a forest area with streams, onto an asphalt road. Once on the road, we also go back, but from the exit from the forest we pass only 60 meters, and turn onto the adjoining road into the forest to the right of the asphalt.

Further 750 meters of the forest road lead us to the edge of the forest. The road itself goes further along the forest and after 280 meters comes to the field. From this place you can see the forest belt that we crossed when we went to the waterfall. At the same place, the road has several forks. We choose the one that leads straight to the village of Lopatino visible ahead. We go along this road for 1100 meters, passing along the right edge of the village, without entering it. From the moment of the village, the road turns from dirt to asphalt.

We reach a fork: the road to the right leads to the village of Kamenka, end point route. But there is one more place on the route that is recommended for visiting - a monument to the pilot Viktor Talalikhin, the Hero Soviet Union who made the first night ram. To do this, turn left at the fork, walk 200 meters along an asphalt road, which ends and turns into an asphalt path. We pass to the end of this path and exit to the monument.

To complete the route from the monument, we return back to the fork and go along the paved road to Kamenka, to the bus stop. The length of this section from the fork to the stop is 2 km.

Waterfall "Rainbow".

It turns out that there are waterfalls in the Moscow region. Almost on the border of two regions, Moscow and Kaluga, on the border of Podolsky and Zhukovsky districts near Varshavskoe highway, R. Nara bends strongly and on its high bank there is a whole valley of beautiful springs, among which is the Rainbow waterfall. It falls from 5 m and is formed by a small stream flowing from a karst spring. In addition to it, the keys of several more lower springs cascade next to it. Local residents said that in Lately the waterfall has become especially popular; entire excursions are often sent to it. And they also said that the waterfall is now very shallow, before it was possible to pass under it without fear of getting wet.
A little puzzled by this story, we went to see what this waterfall really is. What I saw exceeded all expectations! Beauty!
Dear visitors, do not limit your impressions only to visiting the point indicated in the description, take a walk along the river, there are many completely different, dissimilar waterfalls!
Knowledgeable people it is advised to visit this waterfall in winter, they say that in " winter period the waterfall is especially beautiful.

How to find?

Rainbow waterfall is located - Kaluga highway, ~ 45 km from Moscow, r. Nara, before the village of Papino, turn right. You do not reach the village of Papino and the bridge over the Nara itself, and turn onto a narrow paved road in front of a gas station and a small monument to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. (Additional landmarks: passing pioneer camp with horns and stars on a metal fence, and turn after the signs "Podilskyi district" on your side of traffic and "Good luck" on the opposite.) After driving 30m, turn left onto the road through a large field along a dirt road.
Then there are three ways to get to the treasured waterfall:

1) For climbers. Dust along the road through the field, slowly turn right, drive 50 meters and stop. This is the slope of the mountain, along which you can go down right to the waterfall. The main thing is not to miss. Landmark: several oaks, behind them something like a path down. Or walk along the edge of the mountain, look with your eyes below for the skeleton of an old broken Cossack. And get down from it.

2) For extreme sportsmen. Dust all the way down the road through the field. When the forest on the left of the slope ends, then keep to the road that is to the right. If you are afraid of a steep slope - stop and then go on foot. Your task is to go down to the lawn to the Nara River, then to the left.

3) For athletes or romantics. Pass safely both the gas station and the bridge over Nara, and immediately turn right after them. It is safer to drive up to the river along a more even and rolled road, unload, put a folding table and chairs in the shade, admire the waterfall on opposite side, and if the desire to join the beautiful is very great, then change into swimming trunks or a swimsuit and full speed ahead. The river is narrow.

The waterfall is really beautiful. He is not big. In the thickets of trees, on the banks of the river. It falls somewhere from 5 meters into three streams. The slope of the mountain along which it flows is densely overgrown with brilliant bright green moss. The jets are bubbling and splashing. The water is ice cold. I tried to take a better picture of him and stood in the middle of a stream-stream flowing into Nara - my legs were powerfully icy in a second. On the left side, we also climbed up to take a picture, clinging to the roots of the trees with our hands, like a handrail. This spring-source starts somewhere high and runs, murmurs over the stones, and here in this place it already falls down from a cliff like a waterfall.

Impressions from clear sparkling iridescent water, from hissing, bubbling and icy streams, from the force of pressure of splashing jets - no doubt washed away all our negatives from travel extreme. living water has a calming effect. In general, there was a feeling of high. It would be a completely different feeling if you drove up to the waterfall in white pants along the asphalt path.

Adviсe.
Firstly, this waterfall is really very beautiful, we sincerely recommend everyone to go and look at it if possible.

Only dry weather is needed to travel there. If it rains or after it, then better trip reschedule to another time.
Further shoe advice. It is very important. Keep in mind that there is swampy soil, many streams, and, therefore, the approaches to them are all in the water. So the shoes don't fit. You need something waterproof and with heels so that your foot does not slip out. What could it be - you decide? Maybe waders… Besides, there are snakes here.

If the car has a low ground clearance, leave it at the TNK gas station, then walk no more than a kilometer.

It is better not to take small children.

We add that in dry weather and on foot it is not difficult to get at all, a path leads to the waterfall. There are a lot of people walking around, the place is wild (without an owner) and, apparently, as a result of this, we observed a lot of beer cans in the bushes. Tune in positively and do not fixate on the unpleasant, the spectacle of a miracle of nature will pay off your efforts.

Another entertainment. Grab a couple of garbage bags and gloves on the way back, fill the bags with jars / bottles and other treasures of civilization. You will feel like heroes.

Additionally

Last Saturday, June 2, on the first day off of summer, my friends and I walked along the Nara River along the route: der. Dyatlovo village Inino - Rainbow waterfall - village. Orekhovo - der. Lower - with. Tarutino - der. Agafino - der. Marfino - the military town of Kurilovo (40 km).

Early Saturday morning. Only recently it was 8 am, and we are already in Naro-Fominsk, we are standing on bus stop and we are waiting for the bus, which should come in 15 minutes and take us to small village Dyatlovo - the starting point of our today's hike.
There are only four of us - me, tehi4ka , nadushenko and Ilya - only those who were able to wake up early in the morning to catch one of the first metro trains, and who were not afraid of a rainy forecast for most of the day, came.
It’s still quite cold in the morning, and a strong piercing wind makes you regret the lining for your jacket left in Moscow.
The bus arrives exactly on schedule and soon we are driving along a narrow highway that runs along Nara, at some moments approaching the river bank, at some moments moving away. It’s not far for us to go, but the bus is in no hurry, and the narrow, constantly winding road is hardly conducive to fast driving. There are not very many passengers by Saturday standards, and after the large village of Kamenskoye, the bus generally becomes almost empty. Soon we also come out at a deserted crossroads, from which a grader road leads through the field to the village of Dyatlovo.

The main road, having reached the village, split into several country roads, but we, having passed along the village street, go out to the Kremenka River, across which a pedestrian metal bridge is thrown.

Having arranged a small photo session, we continue our way and, having passed along another village street, we go out onto a field road that goes south.

Our path lies to the south.

Somewhere to the left of us there are garden plots, to which the turn departs. But we do not need to go there - our path lies ahead: first through the field, and then through the forest.

And the road goes into the forest.

As a result, having bypassed the sections on the side, we go out onto the concrete road, directly opposite the gates of the garden partnership.

SNT "Nara".

At first, the concrete road goes along the right bank of the Kremenka River, but soon, in front of the next garden plots, we are already moving to the left bank and from that moment we are already in the Kaluga region.
For some time the road goes through the forest along the river, but closer to the village of Inino, former fields begin, now partially built up. The road itself turns into an unpleasant grader with relatively heavy traffic, passing by garden plots, cottage villages and other fenced areas that have appeared here recently.

The road itself eventually leads to the A101 highway, but we don’t need to go there yet, so a little before reaching the highway, we happily leave the dusty grader and turn onto a field road. Very close to the turn, on the other side of the overgrown field, on the banks of the Nara River, is the Rainbow Falls. We went to him.

On the way to the waterfall.

Having arranged a small photo shoot, we continue our journey and go down a narrow path. Once upon a time, earthen steps were made here, but they do not help much on the descent, so sometimes you have to hold on to the trees so as not to move down.
The Rainbow Falls itself is formed by a stream that flows into the Nara River and falls from a height of about three meters from a steep bank. It's very beautiful here sunny weather in late spring - early summer, when there is still quite a lot of water, and everything around is still green.

We arrange a photo shoot near the waterfall, and then we decide to move to the other side of the river to have a snack there and at the same time shoot the waterfall from there. There is no bridge or ford here, so we climb up and go to the ford, which was already visible from the hill.

During the short time that we were at the bottom, the weather had already begun to deteriorate - the sky had already been covered with clouds, which did not bode well in the future.

And here is the ford itself. Somewhere at the end of summer, in August, it is quite shallow here - about knee-deep. But now there is still a lot of water, so the transition turned out to be quite exciting.

Crossing the Nara.

No sooner had we crossed than a tractor appeared.

And another view of the ford.

Having crossed the Nara River and bypassed a half-abandoned farm, we again go to the river bank, right in front of the waterfall, and here we have a snack on a sloping clearing.

On the way to the river Nara.

The waterfall is right in front of us.

After having a snack, we continue along the river and, passing under the bridge of the A101 highway, we climb old bridge and on it we return to the left bank. Once it was on this bridge that the A101 highway passed, but then the bridge was recognized as emergency, it was built new bridge, and the old bridge is still in use, but for a local entrance.

Old bridge across the river Nara.

View of the river Nara and to the new bridge.

Near the old highway near the bridge there is a military monument. After all, it was in this area that fierce battles took place during the Great Patriotic War.

Further, our path lies south along the Nara River along a wide grader leading to the village. Olkhovo and garden plots around it.
The road itself is quite picturesque - on the right is the river, on the left there were fields, then a forest on a high bank. A few strained only cars, quite often passing nearby and raising columns of dust.

On the way to the village Olkhovo.

Soon, in front of the village of Olkhovo, the turn to the garden associations left to the left, and with it almost all the traffic. Having passed the village, we continue our journey along a picturesque sandy road that runs along the river and eventually leads to the bridge in the village. Orekhovo.

By the time we reached the bridge, it had begun to rain. But while he was not strong, so he did not particularly interfere with photography.

On the other side of the river there are vast floodplain meadows, in some places sown with some kind of grass, in other places simply plowed up. Of course, it was possible to try to continue our journey along the coast, but time was running out for us for a long time, and the rain did not particularly favor climbing on the grass. Therefore, we got out at the village. Korsakovo on a deserted highway and went along it to the village. Tarutino.

The village of Tarutino itself is known primarily due to the fact that the Battle of Tarutino took place here two centuries ago in 1812 - the first victory of the Russian army in the Patriotic War of 1812. Now there is a museum in the village Patriotic War 1812, but we didn't go there. We photographed only the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in 1872.

Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (1872).

By this time, the weather had deteriorated completely - the whole sky was already covered with clouds, and the rain had taken on a lingering character. But nevertheless we continue our way.
Not at the first attempt, having understood the intricacies of rural streets, we still find the right turn and soon we go out onto the field road leading to the village. Agafyino, located on the banks of the river. Nara. Around the floodplain meadows sown with grass.

The road to the village Agafino.

Tarutino is left behind.

In the village Agafino.

The road, passing along the village, descends to the river and continues along the shore. The rain has intensified by this time, so I don't shoot much anymore.
After the next ravine, we go to the outskirts of vil. Zhukovo, and behind it to the concrete road leading to the village. Marfino.

On the way to the village Zhukovo.

Time is steadily approaching towards evening. We no longer fit into the schedule, so we decide not to go to the village in the rain. Bulgakovo or in the village. Begichevo on dubious roads with fords and with the prospect of a further hour waiting for the bus in the downpour.
Instead, we decide to go to the military town of Kurilovo and try our luck there - in theory there is bus service with Serpukhov, Obninsk and even with Moscow, but we did not know the schedule.

Thus, having passed vil. Marfino, we turn onto a concrete road and cross the Nara River along a road bridge.

On the way to the river Nara.

View of the river Nara from the bridge.

The military camp is not far away, but there is no direct road there (or we just didn’t see it) and we have to cut loops along the concrete. On the way, we can’t help but pay attention to the ancient Church of the Annunciation Holy Mother of God, built in 1776 in the village. Kurilovo.

Now the temple seems to be active, restoration work is underway in it.

Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (1776).

The concrete road, after a little winding, takes us to the highway leading to the military camp.

Pond in vil. Marinka.

The military camp is near.

But luck this time decided not to be on our side - the bus to Serpukhov had already left half an hour ago, and only 10 minutes ago the last bus to Moscow left.
Sitting at the bus stop is already meaningless, so we decide to go to the A108 highway, and then catch a car in Balabanovo or Serpukhov. Along the way, we are trying to catch the car, but so far unsuccessfully.
Time passes and luck, which at first turned away from us, changes anger to mercy - one of the cars stops, the driver goes to Balabanovo and agrees to take us all to the city, for which we are very grateful to him.
It rains all the way and only stops in Balabanovo. At the same time, it is noticeably colder, so we spend the next 20 minutes before the train in a shop where we drink hot tea.
Soon the train comes and we leave for Moscow.

PS: All photos can be seen here.

The Kaluga region is not distinguished by a particularly exotic landscape and stunning oddities. We have no mountains, no mountain rivers and lakes. But our tireless researcher of the Kaluga land, Kirill Salnikov, managed to find Kaluga waterfalls (and even Kaluga NOT waterfalls, which he will tell about next time)! And now he will show them to you. At least it's beautiful!

Most people think of mountains and a rushing stream of water rushing over the rocks when they hear the word waterfall.

Under this, not everyone dares to swim. In the Crimea, near Gelendzhik, in Sochi, the waterfalls are simpler and many have seen them live.

Surprisingly, there are also waterfalls in the Kaluga region. As many as five! Five waterfalls! And they all formed naturally.

1. Waterfall near the Koltsovo caves

The Lubavetsky quarries (better known as the Koltsovskiye caves) are a popular place. And the waterfall near the caves is the most famous among Kaluga residents.

Only now he has a big drawback - most of the year he does not work.

The water of a small stream above the waterfall goes into a crack, and only when there is a lot of water in the stream - in spring or after a heavy rain - the waterfall works.

It works, and how! The noise is strong, the stream runs with a roar to the Oka along a real mountain canyon.

You don't bathe in this.

The best time to visit it is the very beginning of spring. The ice icicles are still intact, but the water is already running - clean, melted ...

It’s also good in the summer, but you still won’t be able to swim normally, except for a light shower or such a bath.

How to get to the waterfall.

2. Rainbow waterfall near the village of Papino

Less known among Kaluga residents, but more popular among Muscovites is Rainbow Falls.

A spring springs from the steep bank of the Nara River...

The water of which then falls from a cliff almost near the shore

In October, ice icicles already begin to grow around the waterfall ... And this is how the Rainbow Falls looks in January.

Unfortunately, on both of our visits, the sun did not shine on the waterfall, and we could not see the rainbow.

In addition to the waterfall itself, it is worth seeing in this place and the numerous streams from other springs.

The waterfall is open all year round, so you can visit it even in the heat of summer.

Getting to the waterfall is very easy.

You need to go along the Kyiv highway to Obninsk, then turn to Podolsk. Immediately after the Nara Bridge, turn left and leave the car above the waterfall.

3. Waterfall in Ershovo

The next two waterfalls are siblings - they are located in the valley of the Protva River and have the same origin.

The waterfall in Ershovo also falls from a stone slab of a strong layer of limestone.

Just above the waterfall there are stone blockages, it is possible that even natural origin. And possibly an old quarry. But they did not get to them, the giant four-meter hogweed prevented.

If such herbs grow here over the summer, it’s scary to imagine what kind of mushrooms there are. The place is clearly anomalous.

Falling water is almost invisible, in winter an ice column forms. The source of water is a small spring up the slope of the ravine.

Getting to the waterfall is very easy:

To the village of Ershovo, Zhukovsky district, there is normal asphalt, the village itself must be driven almost completely along main street, turning shortly before the dead end down to the ravine. The car can be left 40 meters from the waterfall.

4. Waterfall in Kislino - Kaluga Niagara

Most high waterfall located near the village of Kislino.

The stream originates somewhere in the ravine, and the waterfall itself is located where the power line crosses it. If you walk literally a hundred meters down the ravine, then there will be a village.

This is what the waterfall looks like in summer:

And like this in winter:

In winter, it will be useful to take a rope to visit it.

The waterfall is not impressive. Is that only the height of the fall of water.

Getting to the waterfall:

By car, it is best to “ride”, passing by the village of Potesnikovo. But on foot, from the village of Troitskoye, on the contrary, down, through the village of Kislino and Protva.

5. Mysterious waterfall near the village of Pronino

Almost nothing is known about this waterfall, except that (according to tourists) it exists. It is located on a stream that flows into the Serena. It's hard to get to him. Beauty is not special.

Approximately located here:

Getting there:

To the village of Pronino, which is located on the highway between Kozelsk and Kudrinskaya, from the village along the stream to the Serena River.

6. Almost a waterfall - Rattlesnake Creek

What is a waterfall? The place where the water falls. In the case of Rattlesnake Creek, it simply flows off. Nevertheless, the place is interesting and worthy of mention. There is a wonderful forest around the stream, and if you go deeper into its thicket, you can come to the White Well - the beginning of one of the many streams.

This waterfall arose on the same layer of limestone, like the waterfalls in Ershovo and Kislino. Perhaps someday the water will wash away the stone and a real waterfall will also appear here.

Getting to the Rattlesnake Creek is difficult, but possible.

Either from the village of Trekhsvyatskoye along a broken dirt road, or from Trubino along badly broken asphalt, in some places turning into a dirt road, to the village of Podchervino, which we go around from the west along a dirt road, as well as the village of Gorodenka following it. About 50 meters from the last house the road ends, then a hundred meters on foot.

Are there other waterfalls in the Kaluga region? Most likely no. Yet we live on the plain. But there are beautiful dams on the rivers, streams, springs and wells worthy of a separate story. Or maybe I'm wrong, and someone will tell you where else you can find a waterfall in our area? ..
