If earlier this name applied only to the rock, today it is securely attached to the area in Sevastopol where this beauty is located. Cape Fiolent is a territory practically untouched by humans, so the local landscapes are picturesque and unique. The name came to us from the Turkish language, where “Filenk-Burun” means Tiger Cape. And, indeed, the name fully justifies itself, because stripes of yellowish limestone alternate with dark trachyte, which in appearance resembles the color of a tiger. South coast Crimea is famous for its beauty, and Cape Fiolent is one of the best attractions created by nature, where a stone pyramid shelters unique beaches for relaxation at its foot. There are many legends around this place, the veracity of which has not yet been proven, so, probably, the cape will always be attracted not only by its beauty and grandeur, but also by its mysterious mystery.

What to see

The whole cape today is considered natural reserve, on whose territory mountain slopes combined with the maritime area. Wild and steep cliffs with cliffs are overgrown with a variety of plants, many of which are listed in the Red Book, so you can only get acquainted with them here. When traveling around Sevastopol, you must definitely visit Cape Fiolent, which itself is rich in attractions.

St. George's Monastery is one of the ancient temples on Crimean soil. Its basis is associated with the fact that you can get to this particular place on the cape if you sail from Istanbul strictly at North Star. In addition, the first Christians lived in these caves.

Jasper Beach is connected to the St. George Monastery by a staircase, which at the time of its creation consisted of almost 900 steps. Today, after numerous reconstructions, the number of steps has decreased, but for the convenience of tourists and vacationers, shady passages with benches have been created. Landscapes that change with every step can only be observed here.

The Rock of the Holy Apparition is located in the sea near Jasper Beach. The cross installed on the rock in honor of the monastery's millennium can be seen from afar. But this is not the only thing that attracts the rock. According to legend, it was here that fishermen found an icon of St. George, who patronizes people of this profession.

The Tsarskoe Selo beach, which has a simpler descent, but in appearance is in no way inferior to Jasper Beach, also attracts numerous travelers.

All listed attractions are equipped for comfortable rest. Here you can enjoy the sun, bask in the sea breeze in the shade, admire the varied landscapes and have a tasty snack at any time. Today, renting an apartment for every taste on Cape Fiolent is not a problem.

Practical information

Cape Fiolent is located in Crimea and territorially belongs to Sevastopol. By car you can reach the rocks from the city center in just 30 minutes. The length of the cape is only 7 km, the rocks have different sizes: from 50 to 200 m in height above sea level. Here, the quality of recreation often depends on the weather, because rain carries water not only from the sky, but also in streams from the mountains.

You can rent a house like local residents, where a one-room apartment for rent will cost 800 RUB, and in modern hotels, whose quality apartments cost from RUB 3,000 per night. Prices on the page are as of November 2018.

You can get to the cape not only by personal car, but also by public transport. At the same time, minibuses No. 17, 20, 24, 25, 26 and trolleybus No. 20 go from the bus and railway station; the cost of a ticket from Balaklava does not exceed 16 RUB. Entrance to the beach is strictly from 7:00 to 21:00. It is strictly forbidden to relax with animals, sunbathe naked or spend the night here.

Constantly visiting Fiolent in the summer, I can’t escape the associations with the Latvian Jurmala. After all, Jurmala, by and large, is a whole necklace of small towns following each other, smoothly flowing into each other. Often travelers say that they have been to Jurmala, and then specify the name of the town, but they are not less than ten.

It’s about the same on Fiolent. Only here everything is much, much more modest. Areas vary in stops minibus. All life revolves around them here.

How to get to Fiolent

For tourists and lovers sea holiday Fiolent is a 5-kilometer strip of the Black Sea coast with incredibly steep mountain slopes, sometimes very dangerous. And this is the first difficulty of “developing” Fiolent: you just need to know where and how to go down to the sea.

I give immediate advice and strongly recommend that you follow it: be sure, when going to beaches Cape Fiolent, Invite a local expert in this area with you, otherwise there is a lot here that will remain completely unknown to you.

You should not contact any agency or service bureau about this. Just be friendly, sincerely communicate with the locals, and you will definitely find a guy in the city, or best of all a young couple, who will want to spend a day with you on Fiolent just like that.

Cape Fiolent looks quite attractive in Crimea, but the photo is not able to convey the full depth of its charm and the accompanying sensations that involuntarily arise in the viewer standing at its tip, cutting far into the sea. At moments when the surface of the sea is restless and there, far below, under your feet, hissing and foaming, harsh waves crash on the ledges, he introduces himself a huge ship, plowing endless spaces, being in a serene state, this peace is transmitted to the beholder.

The natural beauty of this place, unaffected by human activity, evokes an indescribable mixture of admiration, tenderness and childish delight that does not even penetrate, but bursts into the very depths of consciousness and oppresses the chest. These sensations, impressions and impressions suppress all negative feelings and fill your nature, after which you forget about everything in the world, surrendering to the power of overwhelming emotions.

Geography and origin of the cape

In structure and origin, it is an ancient volcano that erupted lava flows, as geologists believe, 160 million years ago. Now traces of these processes are visible in the frozen magma on its slopes. Nowadays there is practically nothing left of the giant itself; millions of years of the unbridled force of the surf have done their job - it was eroded and destroyed under the pressure of the waves, gradually turning into a limestone formation.

The cape has an almost regular arrow-shaped shape, tapering towards the tip, with its sharp end protruding deeply into the sea, giving the impression that it literally cuts the water surface. It has high steep slopes, almost vertically descending to the sea, in some places overgrown with green bushes. Thanks to these features, the question of those wishing to visit Cape Fiolent, how to get there from Sevastopol, is a frequent and already familiar occurrence.

Legends and myths

According to ancient Greek legend, in old times here was the temple of Artemis, called the Virgin by the Tauri who lived in these parts. The goddess Iphigenia, the daughter of King Agamemnon, who was preparing the girl for slaughter, was brought here in order to appease the gods, asking for a fair wind for the ships setting off for the shores of Troy. Having escaped death on the altar, Iphigenia found herself in a wild, deserted country, where a sad life awaited her among the barbarians, far from home, relatives and friends. Amazed by the sudden appearance of a young Greek woman within the walls of the temple, the Taurians considered this a sign and made her a priestess of the goddess Virgo.

Days, weeks, and then years passed sadly and monotonously for the involuntary priestess, who actually became a captive of a foreign, unfriendly country. Many years later, the Taurus brought two young Greeks to the temple, who became prisoners and doomed to lie on the sacrificial altar, and Iphigenia was supposed to prepare them for slaughter. Seeing her fellow tribesmen, her heart rose, she began to ask who they were and where they were from, listening to their speeches like music, listening to the answers to native language. It turned out that their names were Orestes and Pylades, and they came from Laconia, the native place of the priestess herself.

Having learned this, Iphigenia decided to save one of the Greeks so that he would deliver a message to her family home, but who would become the messenger, they must decide among themselves. When the prisoners argued in favor of each other, it turned out that Orestes was her brother, and Pylades was her sister’s husband. Shocked by what she heard, the priestess rebelled against the will of above, deciding to save both and flee her homeland. Strange, but luck accompanied them in everything, and the gods, softened by human nobility, did not take revenge; on the contrary, they helped them in everything on the way to their native shores.
