There are many on Koh Samui interesting objects associated with Buddhism: temples, pagodas, statues and other sacred places for adherents of this religion are found here literally at every step. One of these amazing places is a magnificent park speaking name Magic garden of the Buddha. This amazing oasis of tropical greenery is located on the highest Mount Koh Samui which in itself is a good attraction for tourists. But, it should be noted that the popularity among the guests of the island is a consequence, and not the reason for the creation of the Magic Garden. Local resident, farmer Nim Thongsuk, who was one of the first to grow the delicacy fruit durian here, created this magnificence with his own hands due to religious motives.

The farmer, whose house was surrounded by a dense forest park, was very fond of spending time here. Nim indulged in solitude in a calm atmosphere of relaxation, which was reliably guarded by thick powerful branches of trees. In the garden, worries receded from him, hardships were forgotten, and the farmer found peace and harmony. Such metaphysical feelings led Nim to the idea that the forest surrounding his house is nothing but heaven on earth. Thongsuk was already quite a few years old, under 80, when he set himself the goal of creating most interesting garden sculptures.

Of course, the idea of a respected person on the whole island was gladly supported by local population. And soon Nim himself, as well as his assistants, began to embody grand design farmer in life, which they did very well.

Nim Thongsuk devoted himself entirely to the creation of the garden, until his death, he worked on the sculptures towering here today. And it was in the Magic Garden of the Buddha that Nim himself and his wife found their last refuge, to be precise, in the crypt, which he personally built. Nim Thongsuk lived a long life and passed away at the age of 91.

What is the Magic Garden of the Buddha? These are dozens, maybe hundreds of all kinds of sculptures and figures that depict the Buddha and other entities, deities and spirits. Although the statues were erected relatively recently, during a walk in the park, when they suddenly emerge from behind the lush green thickets, it seems that they have been standing here for several centuries. Or at all are the legacy of some long-sunk into oblivion ancient civilization. As soon as the traveler finds himself in this amazing and bewitching place, he immediately finds himself in a mysterious and at the same time indescribably calm atmosphere. Here you do not want to make noise and talk loudly, on the contrary, there is a desire to silently contemplate natural beauty. It becomes clear why the creator of this garden, Mr. Nim Thongsuk, loved so much to spend time in this forest ... which seemed to freeze here and hang in the dense dense air filled with a whole bouquet of aromas and the earth warmed up in the generous sun.

In addition to the Buddha himself, here you can see the possible statues of funny animals that lurk in the thickets, as well as the crypt in which Nim Thongsuk rests. The only problem is that it is difficult to get here on your own, but excursions are constantly organized to the Magic Buddha Garden.

Coordinates

The exact coordinates of the garden: 9.482778, 99.994512.

How to get there: as mentioned above, it’s difficult to get there on your own - the Magic Buddha Garden is located in the very heart of the island, high in the mountains, on the peak of Khao Yai. One of the road options is from the side of Baan Dhurian, which is in the area of Paradise Park and the Tarnim waterfall in the west of Koh Samui. From Bang Por and Nathon, you should go straight up the road without turning, and after turning to Paradise Park, do not miss an interesting fork: literally after a couple of hundred meters, as you turn off the ring road towards the park, there will be a sharp left turn (almost under a straight line). angle). Here, pay attention to a small asphalt path, which is only one lane wide and goes clearly straight ahead - you have to go further along it. After 500-700 m you will see a sign to the Magic Garden and you will understand that you are going the right way.

Starting from Lamai or Chaweng, turn directly opposite the Wat Khunaram temple to the sign for Namuang waterfalls, Tarnim Magic Garden and Paradise Park. Already in the mountains there will be only one pointer to the Tarnim waterfall, follow it, since the desired garden is very close.

From the category "What to see on Koh Samui?" We would advise you to look into an unusual place that has been gaining more and more popularity over the years. Do not think that there really is something incredible in the garden, connected with magic and sorcery. Magic garden is more captivating with its history and abandonment.

Samui Magic garden or secret garden Buddhas - as soon as they don’t try to prettierly call this place

Entrance to the park costs 80 baht. When descending to the garden along a small staircase, we talked with the family, people recently rested in Bali. And they agreed with us that the magical garden on Koh Samui is very reminiscent of Indonesia. We didn’t even have time to voice our impressions to them, they were the first to say that it’s just like in Bali here.

Secret Buddha Garden or Magic Garden

By the way, after Bali, for some reason, these people spat on Koh Samui, they didn’t know what to do with themselves for another two whole weeks. Eventually, they left for neighboring island Ko Tao, so as not to go crazy with boredom on " paradise island Koh Samui. But not the point. To each his own, as they say. But the magical, or as it is also called, the secret garden of the Buddha, they liked both them and us.

The park is laid out in the bed of a mountain stream, which is officially called the Ta Nim Waterfall. Walking through the shady park is a pleasure. Here everything was swallowed up by vegetation, adding some mysticism. Surrounded by trees and green, you seem to be in a children's fairy tale.

giant mushroom

By the way, you have to walk on large and sometimes slippery stones. Therefore, to visit the Magic Garden, you need normal shoes, at least flip flops, and preferably sneakers. Girls in heels have nothing to do there. My shoes were normal, but recently I was already walking on the rocks on the beach, so now I had to stay at the entrance

Everyone went deeper, and I sat down on the step to the delight of the ants

Many sculptures, houses and other incomprehensible buildings were built in Magic Garden, the stream is made in the form of a small waterfall. Almost no people in the morning. Only the birds chirp and the water murmurs.

History of the Magic Garden

The story about the Magic garden is not fiction, and this is why it is only non-standard and mysterious. A certain farmer, who at that time turned 77 years old, wanted to build a special garden. He embodied this idea for 14 years until he was 91 years old. With his assistants, he carved sculptures and built everything that you see now in the photo.

Interestingly, he then thought that in the future tourists would come here and the garden would become one of the attractions of Koh Samui?

And here is the house. Completely whole and unharmed. Here they probably lived until at the age of 91 grandfather died.

He and his wife are buried here, in this garden, in a crypt.

Magic Garden Magic Garden on Koh Samui

This mysterious and mystical garden was created by durian farmer Nim Thongsuk in 1976. Nim was held in high esteem among local residents. After working on the farm, Nim Thongsuk liked to sit and relax in his garden near the house, where he forgot all the problems and rested his soul. Nim always believed that heaven on earth exists and this paradise is in his garden.

And at the age of 77, Mr. Nim wanted to show other people this garden-paradise. With the help of several assistants, he created sculptures of people, mythical creatures and animals in the garden. Nim Thongsuk worked on his garden-paradise until the end of his life until the age of 91. In this garden, he and his wife are buried.

All figures in the Magic Garden are arranged according to the Buddhist Scriptures. In the lake and nearby you can see turtles, several unfinished figures with legs visible. The mysterious atmosphere and natural harmony will take your breath away when you visit the Magic Garden on Koh Samui.

In the magical garden of the Buddha, you can also touch the amazing creepers, see the incredible size of the roots of trees intertwining with each other. You will also immediately notice several houses that were built for wandering monks who needed an overnight stay.

All sculptures are made of stone by hand, which is even more striking in this mystical paradise.

Entrance to the Magic Garden on Koh Samui costs 80 baht.

Many statues are camouflaged among trees and plants

Today's story tells about one of the most mysterious and secluded places Koh Samui. The name of this place is the Magic Garden.

Already from the very name of this attraction it breathes a fairy tale, magic and mystery. And it's great that the atmosphere reigning in the Magic Garden confirms its reputation. We were a little upset that at the entrance they did not give out any brochure with official version the emergence of the Magic Park on Koh Samui, but only collect 80 baht for the restoration of figurines. The fact is that a lot of different legends have been written about the garden - so I would like some official data ...

On the other hand, it might be better. Understatement gives rise to new legends, and thus, Magic Garden appears to us in all its glory - mysterious, peaceful and magical. So, welcome to a walk through the semi-legendary Magic Garden...

Entrance to Magic Garden Samui

Perhaps we should start with the history of the garden. Most of this story is true, but something can be fiction ... It happens with legends!

So, in 1899, a man named Khun Nim Thongsuk (Mr. Nim Tongsuk) appeared in the world. His family was engaged in farming, and he devoted most life with great success. First of all, Neem Tongsak became famous for learning how to get record harvests of durians. As you know, durian is the king of fruits, and Koh Samui is one of the places where this fruit grows, probably better than anywhere else on the planet. So it's no surprise that Neem Tongsuk's record-breaking farm was high up on Koh Samui's Pom Mountain.

Now you can climb this mountain along a serpentine road, but in the middle of the 20th century it was an almost impregnable rock covered with impenetrable jungle. Every day, Nim had to go through a difficult path. Very often he stayed overnight on the mountain, and one day an insight came to him - he decided that it was time to stop growing durians. And in 1976, at the age of 77, Nim Tongsak mastered the new art of stone carving, in order to impregnable grief Koh Samui to build a sculptural composition dedicated to Buddhism and scenes from paradise. He called this place "Secret Buddha Garden" (Secret Buddha Garden).

Near the garden, he built several houses in which itinerant monks could stay overnight, wandering into the Secret Garden in search of enlightenment.

According to one of the legends, Nim Tongsuk worked with an assistant, and it was neither his wife nor his friend ... The fact is that the old man created the Magic Garden until 1990, when he passed away at the age of 91- year. In total, this venerable old man spent 14 years to learn the art of stone carving from scratch and create the beauty that everyone can see today on Mount Pom on Koh Samui!

Orchestra, angels, a bird with a snake and others ...

How did he come up with this idea, you ask!

According to the main legend, the author sculptural composition once dreamed of paradise, and he realized that it was extremely important to reproduce it in his own hidden place islands. When the work was completed, Khun Nim Thongsuk remained forever on a hill near the magical garden - that's how he bequeathed. We did not go up to the grave - may this kindest person rest in peace.

Among other things, the creator immortalized himself in one of the sculptures. And also his father, grandparents, whom he hoped to meet in a real paradise (I hope he met something!)

The creator of the Magic Garden and his father - immortalized in sculptures

A crystal-clear stream with an artificial backwater and a waterfall flows through the Secret Buddha Garden.

Some of the sculptures reminded me of our trip to - ancient capital Siam, which we visited in April 2013. But the atmosphere in the Magic Garden is completely different. And most importantly, the forest, river and waterfall provide comfortable coolness. What can not be said about Ayutthaya with its scorching sun!

To ignorant people, it may seem that the figures do not carry a special semantic load - in fact, this is far from the case. Even during the life of Nim Tongsuk, many were twisting at the temple, having learned about his new hobby ... However, the old man clearly did not move his mind.

The paradise composition of the magical garden describes various scenes from Buddhist legends. A bird with a snake in its beak, an amphitheater with musicians, angels raising their hands to heaven, as well as giant tortoises, a watchdog, brave warriors and monks - all these sculptures come together ... But, as I said, there is no official brochure, so it's hard to say exactly what this story is about.

It definitely represents heaven. So welcome to heaven!

Koh Samui magical garden coordinates: 9.482778, 99.994512

On some maps and signs you can see the name "Tarnim Magic Garden" (Tarnim Magic Garden). This is also one of his names.

This is how the road near the Magic Garden looks like - the garden starts to the left of this composition

There are two ways to get to the Secret Buddha Garden - take a tour at any travel agency on the island or go to the mountain on your own. If you decide to drive on your own, then be prepared for dangerous turns, jeeps of tour operators rushing past you and long ups and downs along the way. If you don't have good experience driving a bike, it's better to go by car - it's much safer, although the roads are very narrow!

Not far from the garden, I definitely recommend visiting places such as the best waterfall on Koh Samui, known as a cafe with viewing platforms And . If you drive a little further towards Nathon through the mountain, then you can also look at the bird farm in - it is also very interesting there, especially for children!

Be careful on the roads, and by the way, Happy New Year (Chinese) again! 🙂

One of the attractions of Koh Samui is the so-called magic garden or Magic Buddha Garden . In addition to these names, you can hear that it is also called the Magic Garden, Magic Garden Tarnim, Secret Buddha Garden, Tarnim Magic Garden (Tarnim Magic Garden).

One of the January days, we decided to go to Magic Garden with our friends. We live on Bophut beach, and the Buddha's Magic Garden is located on the opposite side of the island from us, in the mountains, so the road to the Magic Garden took us more time than we thought 😎 We got there for more than an hour.

But although the Magic Garden of Buddha (or the mysterious garden 😎) is located high in the mountains, the road to the Magic Garden is quite normal. It can be reached both by car and by bike. There are some steep climbs, but in general you can get there on a bike even with two people.

How to find Magic Garden on Koh Samui

We drive along the ring road from Lamai beach. Opposite the temple with the mummified monk there will be a sign to turn right to such sights of Koh Samui - a waterfall, on and on the Magic Garden.

We turn and go straight to the fork:

The road to the Magic Garden - here you need to turn right

And at the fork we turn right, and we first left. And, as often happens with roads on Koh Samui, the road was and ended 😎

It is necessary to go to the right, all the time following the sign for, but not reaching the park itself.

We pass stone sculptures, a plantation with durians and very soon we will see a sign to the right to the Magic Garden.

The cost of visiting the Magic Garden on Koh Samui

Entrance to the Garden of Magis is 80 baht per person. When I was at Magic Garden 7 years ago, admission was free. But the road to it was much worse 😎

Magic Buddha Garden, photo walk 🙂

Magic Garden (or Buddha's Magic Garden) - it's two in one: a beautiful garden mysterious sculptures and Tarnim waterfall.

Magic Garden was built by the talented farmer Nim Thongsuk, who lived in the mountains and grew durians.

And now, in retirement, he decided to build a piece of heaven on earth. He chose a secluded place in the mountains, not far from the farm, next to the river, and began to build a park. As it turned out later, the farmer turned out to be a talented sculptor. He started building Magic Garden not so long ago, in 1976, while Nima Thongsuke was already 77 years old at that time and he worked on the garden until last days of his life and died at the age of 91.

From everything in the park it breathes some kind of centuries-old peace. The impression is that these statues are not a single hundred years old - they are so organically inscribed in the landscape. The stones are covered with moss, visually making all the sculptures and buildings older than they really are.

In Magic Garden, everything feels calm and peaceful. It makes me want to sit somewhere and meditate.

There are small houses in the park. Now they are abandoned. And before, it was offered to spend the night there for tired travelers.

Souvenirs are sold near the entrance to the park and you can have a cup of good brewed coffee overlooking the Magic Garden.

In general, Magic Garden left a good impression. I think it is worth a visit along with other attractions of Koh Samui. It is very convenient to visit it when traveling to.

But we visited these two interesting sights of Koh Samui on different days - we really enjoyed riding in the mountains 🙂
