One of the January days, we decided to go to Magic Garden with our friends. We live on Bophut beach, and the Buddha's Magic Garden is located on the opposite side of the island from us, in the mountains, so the road to the Magic Garden took us more time than we thought 😎 We got there for more than an hour.

But although the Magic Garden of Buddha (or the mysterious garden 😎) is located high in the mountains, the road to the Magic Garden is quite normal. It can be reached both by car and by bike. There are some steep climbs, but in general you can get there on a bike even with two people.

How to find Magic Garden on Koh Samui

We drive along the ring road from Lamai beach. Opposite the temple with the mummified monk there will be a sign to turn right to such sights of Koh Samui - a waterfall, on and on the Magic Garden.

Magic Garden (or Buddha's Magic Garden) - it's two in one: a beautiful garden mysterious sculptures and Tarnim waterfall.

Magic Garden was built by the talented farmer Nim Thongsuk, who lived in the mountains and grew durians.

And now, in retirement, he decided to build a piece of heaven on earth. He chose a secluded place in the mountains, not far from the farm, next to the river, and began to build a park. As it turned out later, the farmer turned out to be a talented sculptor. He started building Magic Garden not so long ago, in 1976, while Nima Thongsuke was already 77 years old at that time and he worked on the garden until last days of his life and died at the age of 91.

From everything in the park it breathes some kind of centuries-old peace. The impression is that these statues are not a single hundred years old - they are so organically inscribed in the landscape. The stones are covered with moss, visually making all the sculptures and buildings older than they really are.

In Magic Garden, everything feels calm and peaceful. It makes me want to sit somewhere and meditate.

There are small houses in the park. Now they are abandoned. And before, it was offered to spend the night there for tired travelers.

Souvenirs are sold near the entrance to the park and you can have a cup of good brewed coffee overlooking the Magic Garden.

In general, Magic Garden left a good impression. I think it is worth a visit along with other attractions of Koh Samui. It is very convenient to visit it when traveling to.

But we visited these two interesting sights of Koh Samui on different days - we really enjoyed riding in the mountains 🙂

The Magic Buddha garden Samui is also called the Secret Buddha Garden, located on the highest peak of the island - Khao Yai. Ancient sculptures, so to speak, historical significance, it does not, since it was founded only in 1976. Local durian farmer Nim Thongsuk, at the age of 77, decided to make beautiful garden and he himself, together with assistants, created sculptures, carving them manually from stone. He was engaged in the creation of this attraction of Koh Samui until the age of 91. He was buried in a crypt in his own garden with his wife. Thanks to his imagination, images from the sacred Buddhist book Ramayana, Thai mythology were born ... Stone sculptures of Buddha, musicians and Thai dancers, various animals, monks, soldiers, turtles live in the magical garden ... Everything is buried in greenery, some figures still need to be searched. However, there are few places in the garden where you would not find interesting sculptures.

It’s good to come to the garden to wander quietly among the greenery, enjoy nature, the harmony of this place, meditate… Visitors are greeted by a small artificial waterfall, a small mountain river flows through the garden, bringing additional freshness. There is nothing to do here for a particularly long time; even one hour is enough to inspect the entire garden. Therefore, its visit is best combined with any other trip or excursion. Getting there is easier if you rent a car, on a bike - if you are an experienced driver, there are very steep ascents and descents in the mountains.

On Mount Pum, one of the most high peaks Koh Samui in Thailand, lived and had a farmer (or as we usually call it in Belarus - an agronomist 🙂) Kun Nim Thongsuk, grew durians (super fragrant fruits prohibited for transportation in public transport due to the smell it gives off 😯). The farmer was very respected, because he grew the most revered fruits on Koh Samui. And Nim himself had one dream for a long time - to create a piece of Paradise next to his plantations.

At the venerable age of 77 years (and this was in 1976), Nim Thongsuk began carving figures from stones laid out along the riverbed. He was engaged in building his Paradise for 14 years until his death, thus the Magic Garden of the Buddha arose. Actually, here is buried Him and his wife.

An interesting fact is that no one knew about the farmer's occupation for a long time. Basically, the figures are of a religious nature from Buddhist stories. There are several sculptures of Nim Thongsuk's family: paternal grandparents, father and the master himself. Nim is buried on the territory of the Magic Garden. There are also abandoned houses, previously intended for travelers and monks.

Impressions of Tarnim Magic Garden

Many people write that the Magic Buddha Garden is creepy - you guys just haven't seen it from Finland! There it is in general tin 😯! But the stories of the foundation of these creations are very similar, despite the distance from each other by more than 8 thousand kilometers.

For the sake of curiosity, I looked into one of the houses and was horrified! A lot of garbage, all sorts of bottles. Owners, STE is not good! For creations created by the hands of your father, you take money and at the same time do not keep clean! Well, Thais, ah-ah-ah!!!

It is said that there are few tourists in Tarnim Magic Garden. But for some reason, when we got there, there were 5 pickup trucks waiting for merry and noisy customers, crowds taking pictures on, under and hugging the sculptures.

And, do not flatter yourself, you won’t have to roam too much - the territory of the Magic Buddha Garden is not large. In principle, in connection with this, you won’t get particularly tired and you can visit some other attraction of Koh Samui that day 🙂 .

In general, there is nothing special to see in Magic Garden Samui. A once-in-a-lifetime attraction from the series “you need to go somewhere at least”, so the entrance is paid. The entire tour will take 10 minutes, but can be extended up to an hour. Due to the proximity of water, everything has become so mossy and slippery, it even smells of damp, so you need to walk carefully and wear comfortable shoes. Especially in rainy weather. In this, of course, you can find pluses - everything around looks like the scenery for some old fairy tale.

Yes, you have to pay 80 baht per person to enter Samui's magical Buddha Garden (previously it was free). For children, admission has always been and is free. For these 80 baht you will receive a ticket and will be able to enter the garden itself. Nobody checks tickets. And there were not many who wanted to come here in the rain.

There is a ticket office at the entrance and there is a small cafe and a shop.

For cars and motorcycles there is a circular parking. In the garden you have to go down the stone stairs covered with moss. After falling off the bike, even such a ladder seemed like hell for me.

I got on my own by bike, as I lived near Taling Ngam, and this was one of the closest attractions. But to be honest, the second time I would not go along these hellish hills. Our Honda Click barely dragged the two of us up the mountain. And here we regretted that we did not take a more powerful bike. And since we stopped here, we must immediately see all the nearby sights.

The Tarnim Buddha Magic Garden on Koh Samui is located on one of the highest Samui mountains- Khao Yai. The garden itself is marked on google maps as "Secret Buddha Garden or Magic Garden". Just type in this address and the navigator will show you the nearest route. There are several roads, one from the side of Lamai, the second from the side of Taling Ngam (where I was driving from). The second road is better in terms of surface quality and steepness. Then both roads merge into one. Along the way there will be several more waterfalls, they are marked with signs, and an elephant camp. Around elephants, the smell is appropriate. You can stop and look. But that was enough for me on Koh Chang.

On the way back, we drove off the wrong way and drove into " real life Koh Samui - Thai houses, gardens, kitchen gardens, pets. It also offers a view of the island and the sea. Tourists in jeeps are brought and stopped for 1 minute to take a photo. And we've been here for an hour.
